Video inserts in imovie 06

I'm importing video files(not audio) from another hard drive (B roll), into my timeline
(video inserts), but it's taking a lot of time (20 min for 10 second footage)
Could someone help me, please?

How long was the original clip? (The one you use 10 seconds of)?
You see, iMovie is a non-destructive editor. That means the full length of the original clip is imported, som you can at any time revert to the full length of the clip even in the "new" project.
Is the hard drive connected via USB? Directly on the Mac? Or via a hub? Or via the keyboard?

  • Decreased JPEG quality when inserted into iMovie as stillframe

I am trying to create a 1 minute video of still frames that consists of a picture that has a duration for 1 second, followed by a black screen for .5 second, repeated until the end of the video.
What I am finding is that the quality of the JPEG decreases when it is inserted to iMovie and is then saved to a file format that would work within presentations (often .wmv). I have tried saving as Quicktime and then using other programs to convert to .wmv but experience the same problem.
Is there an easy solution to this problem? I'd appreciate any help that I can get.

Sounds like you are creating web graphics. Your project is almost the a standard web banner size. It's very small. If your composition window is set to full resolution and 100% scale and the imported images are not perfect then follow these instructions.
The comp must be set to square pixels and an even number of pixels high and wide
The quality setting of the layer in the timeline must be set to high quality (the slash should be solid and go this way /)
Your original images should be created in square pixels (most are) and they should be an even number of pixels high and wide
Your images should be set to 100% scale.
Do that and you'll get a pixel for pixel reproduction of the original image. If you scale, rotate, or mix pixel aspect ratios then the pixels will be reinterpreted. If the image is an odd number of pixels high or wide then the pixels won't line up.

  • Slowing down or expanding a video clip in iMovie for iPhone 4

Is there a way to expand a short video clip in iMovie for iPhone 4? I can expand a still image, but not a video clip. I would like to take a video clip that lasts 2 seconds and expand it to 15 seconds or longer. The video clip could be slowed down.
I can do this with still images, so I would think I would be able to do this with video clips. For example, when I insert a still image it defaults to 2 seconds with the ken burns effect. I can then expand or shorten the still image to last as long as I want (from 2 seconds to 10 seconds, for example). However, when I insert a short video clip I am not given that option. When I grab the crop button and try to expand the video clip it stops at the end of the clip.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks Joe, hopefully Apple adds this feature to iMovie soon.

  • Creating a video podcast with iMovie?

Can I create a video podcast through iMovie? I was planning on recording audio and inserting photos to go along, then Share -> iPod. Will that work?
    Thanks!

I would recommend Podcast Maker. I used it for my audio podcast; I've not done video podcasting but it does say that it handles .mov files.
Once you have your media files sorted, Podcast Maker will do the rest. You enter the server details, and the descriptions and so on, and the locations on your Mac of the media files; it will then in one go write the feed, and upload it and the files to your server. It writes good clean rss and you shouldn't have any problems. Obviously you will need to study their instructions first, but it's not too complicated.
(I don't have any association with this firm,)
If you want an associated web site you will need to construct it yourself, using links to the media files once they've been uploaded.
If you feel the temptation to get involved with FeedBurner or similar services I would advise resisting it: they work most of the time but if there is a problem (and I've seen a lot come up in this forum) it's almost impossible to sort it out. It's also pretty well impossible to move the feed to a different URL.

  • Is there a way to speed up video clips in imovie on ipad

is there a way to speed up video clips in imovie on ipad? I'm currently editing some videos and would like to speed up a few clips to make the video shorter. Is this possible on ipad or just mac pcs only?

actually, no 'add-ons' possible or avail for iMovie/MacOS/iOS…

  • How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • How to move Projects and Events with iPhoto video included in iMovie '11?

I work with a group of educators using iPads for video. One method for getting their clips into iMovie '11 is via iPhoto and then using the iPhoto Video link in iMovie to get the footage on a timeline (trying to import directly into iMovie '11, using the iPad as a "camera", has proved inconsistent, especially with footage from iStopMotion or Filmic Pro 1 and 2).
The problem is, when it comes time to copy or move an event and project, the iPhoto clips don't come along; they are dependent on the iPhoto library, so you can't continue editing on a different machine. I tried File > Consolidate Media, but it was inactive (in my test project, all clips came from iPhoto). If I look at Reveal in Browser, it goes to the bowels of the iPhoto library. If I copy the project to another drive, it too, points to the iPhoto library (if I'm on the same machine; otherwise it doesn't see it). I also tried optimizing the footage in the hope that it would create an Event with optimized clips that I could then transfer.
Am I missing something? It seems nuts that you can't transfer work to another machine without manually picking through the bowels of iPhoto. These days, lots of shooting is done on iPads and iPhones. Any help would be appreciated.

My suggestion would be that in the future, they upload photos only to iphoto, and upload video clips directly to iMovie. In the early days of iOS, going through iPhoto was the only way, so it is a habit that I have had to break.
With iOS 5 and 6, iMovie now recognizes the iPhone and the iPad as cameras.
I agree that the Consolidate Media command should bring over iPHoto movies along with the photos. I suggest that you go to iMovie/Provide Feedback and let the developers know that you would like this feature.

  • Is there a way to speed up or slow down video clips in iMovie using the iPad?

Is there a way to speed up or slow down video clips using iMovie on the iPad? I do not have an Apple computer...just the iPad.

    No.
There are other apps that can to time shifting, or speed effects.
    iMovie cannot.

  • Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?

I know how to crop the beginning or end of a video, but I would like to crop out a section in the middle. I don't want to lose the part following the cropped frames. What must I do? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Miriam

Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?
    Yes.
    What must I do?
    Basically you have three options:
    1) If the clip is in the "Event" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want and transfer it to your "Project" window and place it where you want it.
    2) If the clip is already in the "Project" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want to keep...
    a) and press the "Split" option in the edit menu (or the "Split Clip" option in the context menu) to divide the clip into three segments. Then select each of the segments you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove them from the "Project" window.
    b) or, even easier, simply press the "Trim to Selection" option in the "Edit" menu.
All of these work flows do not physically remove anything from the "Event" but merely perform a non-destructive edit of the project for the purpose of later output.

  • How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.
    Greg

The latest incarnation of iMovie doesn't offer the 'Export with Quicktime'-options, the previous versions did.

  • Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed

Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed
    it up/slow it down?

I actually think the content gets smoother in faster mode. But maybe that's just my opinion.
By the way, the fast/slow/reverse effect is pretty sensitive, i use it for my fight scenes in movies and I can only raise the bar one notch faster before it starts to look cheesy.

  • How can i decrease the fuzziness of my video clip in imovie?

It is not possible, however, there are other measures that can possibly prolong your battery. You may watch this informative video courtesy of Nokia Support Videos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLa4ZJX_lAs

  • How do I display the complete time sequence for a video clip in iMovie?

How do I display the time complete time sequence for a video clip in iMovie?
I'm trying to create a movie for someone where they provided me the video clips and what time sequences they want extracted.  For example:  Video footage from time 5m22s to 9m:18s and 11m17s to 15m31s from the imported video clip.  I know you can select video but I cannot figure out how to select from those requested time markers.
    Any help would be apreciated.

Open the file using QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Inspector window.

Can you help me rotate my video clip in iMovie ?  I followed the instructions in the Help menu, but was stuck on Step 3  - after I had selected the entire Clip and then was unable to click  on the "Cropping Button".

Are you in the timeline? You can't access the crop button if the clip is in the browser.
