Video intro before menu

Does anybody know how I can create a video intro that plays first thing when a DVD is inserted into the player and then leads to the first menu on the disc?
In other words, this video would come on as soon as the DVD starts playing, then possibly pause on its last frame, and that frame would become the background of the first menu. Then the buttons and links would appear when the video ends and the menu begins.
Any idea how I can create this? And possibly make the music be continuous between the video and the menu?
Thanks,
Fernanda.

Few approaches
1.) First set first play for the disc to either the track you want or the menu
2.) If a track is first play (better form) then have the last frame be the background of the menu you are going to and set the jump from the track to the menu
or
3.) http://dvdstepbystep.com/motion.php and http://dvdstepbystep.com/useelements.php (still a good idea to have the first play be a short track even of a couple of seconds of black then set end jump to the menu)

No need for DVD SP - you can easily do it in iDVD 6.
In the map view, the well on the left is the autostart well for content that will play before a menu shows. Just drop your short video in that well.

  • Video intro to still Menu

    Hi all..
There is quite possibly a very obvious answer to this but a quick search here didnt reveal anything. My last DVD i made with a video intro (track) leading to a separate menu which graphically was like the last frame from the movie intro or opening track. It didnt flow smoothly as smoothly as i would like as there was a little flicker in the movement from the opening track to the main menu so this time i would like if possible to have the buttons appear at the end of the video intro where i have a background already prepared for the text. The video mv2 i have placed in the Menu to paly once. I understand how to make the overlay menu but i want it to come in at the end of the video clip. Is this possible?
Many thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question

You are basically creating a motion menu with a loop point - your background footage needs to include the animation and the fade in of any button text, as Silal points out. You then need to hold the button text still (whether or not other parts of the menu continue to move) for AT LEAST 30 seconds - which should be long enough for the user to make a choice. Many DVDs hold the image still for a lot longer than this.
Take a frame from the section where the button text is still and use it as a background in photoshop. Add a new layer and create ONLY the objects that you want to be your button highlights - an underline, a star, a tick or dot... whatever. Hide the background layer and save the result out as a .pict file. You can use colours or gray scale, but you will only have four shades/tints in all to play with inside DVDSP. Import the .pict file (which will look mostly white with unconnected shapes that will line up with the menu text) into DVDSP.
Drop your motion sequence into a menu and look in the property inspector. Slide the 'loop point' control to a position just after where the button text has faded in and become still. Add the .pict file as the menu overlay and now treat it as a normal menu - draw out the button rectangles, assign targets, etc. You can use the property inspector to change the colours of the highlights if you need to.
When you return to this menu it will (by default) play from the very beginning, which means the user will see all of the animation again. You can use different techniques to ensure that they don't, depending on the version of DVDSP that you are using.
In v4 there is an option to return to the loop point - to use it you need to create a script and add the relevant command using the script editing tools. It is a one line script and you set the track end jump and/or menu call to point to the script. The user will then only see from the still portion onwards.
In earlier versions of DVDSP you do not have this command. You need to either create two menus, one with the animation and still section and the other with just the still section. The animated version is the first menu, but all jumps and menu calls go to the second menu so that the user only sees the still piece.
Alternatively you can get in to doing some post build editing using tools like DVDAfterEdit or MyDVDEdit. These allow you to break in to the codes for the DVD and add your own controls. It is a relatively simple matter to add in a conditional statement which sets a value after the menu has played once. If the value is set then all further jumps to the same menu will go to the loop point. Whilst it is relatively simple to do, it is not for the feint hearted... and as with any work like this you only ever do it on a copy and make sure it is working before you release it to your client. There are tutorials to help you do this if you want to try it, but I strongly suggest you use either of the other two approaches first!

  • Intro clip plays before menu starts, but has a few frames of black. I need it to be seemless, please help!?!?

    Hello,
So Im in Encore 6. I have a timeline with video and audio selected with first play, so it plays as an intro before the main menu.
The intro clip connects to the menu, however there are a few black frames during the transition to the main menu and I need this to be seamless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't know until you play from a disk whether it is seamless or not. The Encore preview is not reliable.

  • I want to create an external video widget with iAd. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.

i want to create an external video widget with iAd to use in an iBook. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.
    hope someone can help!

May have something to do with whether or not the URL can be reached while building your widget.  I've got a video on the web. When I enter the URL into the field for the video object and click to another field,  the URL is replaced with some text indicating that it is accessing the video then updates itself to displaying just the name of the video file.
It shows just fine in preview and I can see the full path to the video when I export the widget so it should work for you.
Is the video accessible from your Mac while you're laying out your widget?

  • Strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image

    hello all,
got a strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image,
menu size is 1920 x 1080 (photoshop file)
    mpeg2 video 1920 x 1080 (1second 19 frames)
the idea is to go from the menu link to the next sub menu with a video as transition, using the same image on the video as the menu and then zooming in (in my case through a door) to end up after the zoom in the next level menu.
I try to achieve a smooth change from the first play menu picture to the video image into the next level menu picture,
everything works good but when I watch it on the preview mode on the left and right side of the video it shows a black bar at least 15 to 25 pixel wide, that means the video image appears smaller and it causes a little jump what is preety disturbing and can not be sold as a professional work.
why encore treats the video size and picture differently?
it's gratful appreciated if somebody who got experience in a transition I mentioned obove posting any solution,
    thankl you all

    Hi all
I'm having a very similar problem with Encore. My menu items are distorting (a minor but infuriating squashing top and bottom) when previewed.
    Using Encore,PS,AE CS4
DVD format SD PAL DV widescreen
I created 3 menu frameworks and 3 video transistions to link them in AE. On the final frame of each transistion in AE I saved the frame with Composition>Save Frame to> Photoshop Layers. In PS i added the button functionality and saved.
In Encore I use Dynamic link to import AE transistions as timelines and imported each PS menu twice, once as "menu" and once as an asset.
When I link the timeline transistions to the menu and preview at the point the menu begins the whole image is squashed. When the next transistion is activated the image returns to its original size.
Thinking it was the use of PS that was causing the menus to distort I used the menu asset directly in the time line. Obviously no menu functionality but also no distortion. The AE transistion flowed straight into the "menu" just as I expected.
In the properties panel the menu Aspect Ratio 16:9
The AE transistions PAR is SD PALwidescreen 1.4587.
I did try the Blu Ray suggestion above but the same distortion was apparent.
Any suggestions short of squashing the video to match the menu would be welcomed.
    Thanks

  • Looking for a good Video intro generator. Any recommendation ?

    Hi there,
I am looking for some impressive video intro generator & bump into this:
    http://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/cstore_vshowcase.aspx?id=525&CategoryName =iClone
I bought the iClone4 plus the Motion Montage because I like the part where it will generate the impressive video intro sequence automatically & all I need to do was to drag my pictures & videos into it.
But, when I used it, this software turns out to be very complicated. When I drag a picture into it, it turns dark immediately !! My guess is that I have to adjust the lighting & a whole series of buttons to get the effect. So, this is too cumbersome & too time consuming for me.
I need one that can generate an impressive video intro & all I have to do is to select my pictures & video files.
Any recommendation from experts here ?
    Thanks

I'd never seen any program that could make something like that so easily until I clicked your link! Generally to do that kind of work you need a working knowledge of programs that support editing/modeling in 3D space.
If nobody else can name another product, you might try the "Contact Us" part of their website:
    http://www.reallusion.com/aboutus.asp#contact
Yes, I have tried that, all they did was ask me to see their tutorial & manual & forum. But their forum are mostly on iClone4 and not Motion Montage.
Also, it is too time consuming to learn the iClone4. I bought it because I thought I can produce the impressive video intro by just dragging in my video files & picture files.
It work to a certain extend but the problem is that the very minute I drag my files into it, it becomes very dark & resolution quality drop to a very bad level, unlike what I see on the sales video.
I hope others can recommend me another product.
    Thanks

  • Help with a video intro on my home page

Hello, I can use some help or suggestions with a video intro
on my home page http: www.godincharge.com. It was originally an mp4
I converted to the swf format using Allok Video to FLV Converter.
The file is 650k and downloads painfully slow on dial up

Each button displays the same text with html tacked on as the button except for the Home page of course. What should the text be?

  • Need To Flip Video Feed Before Capture

My video was filmed using a Red Rock attachment and it flips the video image before it hits the DV tape. All of my tapes carry upside down video, which is not a problem, I would just like to flip/rotate the video feed 180 degrees BEFORE I capture it. I have Final Cut Pro 6 within FCS2, can this be done with this software?
Thanks in advance for anyone's speedy reply.
    ~Ian

Because the editors have nearly 100 tapes to capture and flipping each video scene-by-scene is a terribly laborious process.
I've tried flipping already, but it still leaves unflipped frames at the beginning and end, and other video view boxes still show the original feed unflipped. Capturing it correctly before it gets imported into a project will solve all these problems and save the editors a lot of time.

  • Short video before menu

I'm putting together a video with a client. He wants to have a short segment of the video play immediately as the DVD starts right before the menu, probably less than 20 seconds. I could only figure how to have video playing on the menu screen not before. I'm sure this is possible I just can't figure out how...
    Any help?

You can make the intro as a trck and make it first play, but I usually prefer to build the intro onto the front of the main menu. This way I can have seamless audio and video with no pause when it resolves to the main menu. Set the loop point on the menu to delay the appearance of the buttons until the background resolves.
Even slicker is to make two versions of your menu, one with intro and one without. You can make custom audio for the one without so this can loop cleanly, and the intro can still have continuous audio through the first play through of the Intro_main menu.
    Hope this makes sense...

  • Video before Menu skips

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to finish a DVD in Studio Pro 3. I've more or less got the hang of the program.
When the DVD starts, I want to have a quick 5 second graphic of my company logo fade in and fade out, then go to the menu. Easy enough.
But, for some reason, the intro video stutters and skips a few times. I've tried re-exporting the clip from FCP and have made an entirely new clip in FCP and exported it, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The video clip has a jerky motion to it no matter what. I've tried everything I can think of to overt this but nothing seems to do the trick. Has anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks,
    pat

    Patrick
FCP will not set the Max Rate, what you should do is export the movie as self contained and then use Compressor (sending it from FCP to Compressor is another option, but self contained seems to work better andd quicker.)
The 2 hour version may (not sure if it does, do not have settings) drop the Max Rate but it would drop thee average rate.
What you should do is check the settings by double clicking the preset in the preset window.
What you can do is also "make your own".
Take a look at this movie here
    http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/qc.php
to see how you can make your own settings - note the AC3 settings in particular for items that you should check/uncheck.
The m2v section (which is actually first) just shows how the controls work in general and do not mean they have to be your actual settings.

  • Intro video moving to menu smoothly

I am working on DVDSP2 and wish to have an intro movie that plays prior to moving to the menu. My menu is created from the last frame of the intro movie, so I want it to move smoothly from one to the other. I get about 2-3 seconds of white before it goes to the menu.
Any way to avoid this? Even to make it black?

Ive seen this a few times too, however it only happened in the simulator.
Once the disc was burnt it played normally.
Maybe you should do a build and format, and create a disc image. Mount the disc image by double clicking it and view it on your Mac using the Apple DVD Player and it will behave as if it were an actual disc.

  • Video plays before it has been selected in menu

I have 6 motion menu buttons and when I move from one button to another, that particular button becomes selected and plays the video.  I cannot move around on the menu system without a video being selected to play.

    Yes...that is/was the problem.
Thank you...I know that seems simply, but I simply didn't know.

  • Button appears a second before menu

    Has anyone experienced this problem......
I have three videos on a dvd, so three buttons on the menu page. Once first video plays and fades out, I have it set to go to menu page - 2nd button. That is all fine except that you see the button pop up over the black a second before we see menu page. Same thing happens when going to third button. Does anyone have a clue? The buttons are just a shape chosen in DVD Studio Pro. Thanks for any help on this matter.

By the way it only does this on dvd player with tv, not when played on computer.
