Video introduction in menu

I'm using DVDSP4.
I'm looking to have a 30-second video introduction to the menu without that pesky change-over time. Basically, I have the entire thing arranged in FCP including the menu background. I know the whole issue about loop points, but how to I get buttons and highlights into the menu portion of the video?

When you get a chance, you should really take a quick look at the tutorials and quick start guides with DVD SP also, definately worthwhile

i want to create an external video widget with iAd to use in an iBook. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.
hope someone can help!

May have something to do with whether or not the URL can be reached while building your widget.  I've got a video on the web. When I enter the URL into the field for the video object and click to another field,  the URL is replaced with some text indicating that it is accessing the video then updates itself to displaying just the name of the video file.
It shows just fine in preview and I can see the full path to the video when I export the widget so it should work for you.
Is the video accessible from your Mac while you're laying out your widget?

• Strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image

hello all,
got a strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image,
menu size is 1920 x 1080 (photoshop file)
mpeg2 video 1920 x 1080 (1second 19 frames)
the idea is to go from the menu link to the next sub menu with a video as transition, using the same image on the video as the menu and then zooming in (in my case through a door) to end up after the zoom in the next level menu.
I try to achieve a smooth change from the first play menu picture to the video image into the next level menu picture,
everything works good but when I watch it on the preview mode on the left and right side of the video it shows a black bar at least 15 to 25 pixel wide, that means the video image appears smaller and it causes a little jump what is preety disturbing and can not be sold as a professional work.
why encore treats the video size and picture differently?
it's gratful appreciated if somebody who got experience in a transition I mentioned obove posting any solution,
thankl you all

Hi all
I'm having a very similar problem with Encore. My menu items are distorting (a minor but infuriating squashing top and bottom) when previewed.
Using Encore,PS,AE CS4
DVD format SD PAL DV widescreen
I created 3 menu frameworks and 3 video transistions to link them in AE. On the final frame of each transistion in AE I saved the frame with Composition>Save Frame to> Photoshop Layers. In PS i added the button functionality and saved.
In Encore I use Dynamic link to import AE transistions as timelines and imported each PS menu twice, once as "menu" and once as an asset.
When I link the timeline transistions to the menu and preview at the point the menu begins the whole image is squashed. When the next transistion is activated the image returns to its original size.
Thinking it was the use of PS that was causing the menus to distort I used the menu asset directly in the time line. Obviously no menu functionality but also no distortion. The AE transistion flowed straight into the "menu" just as I expected.
In the properties panel the menu Aspect Ratio 16:9
The AE transistions PAR is SD PALwidescreen 1.4587.
I did try the Blu Ray suggestion above but the same distortion was apparent.
Any suggestions short of squashing the video to match the menu would be welcomed.
Thanks

• Video intro before menu

Does anybody know how I can create a video intro that plays first thing when a DVD is inserted into the player and then leads to the first menu on the disc?
In other words, this video would come on as soon as the DVD starts playing, then possibly pause on its last frame, and that frame would become the background of the first menu. Then the buttons and links would appear when the video ends and the menu begins.
Any idea how I can create this? And possibly make the music be continuous between the video and the menu?
Thanks,
Fernanda.

Few approaches
1.) First set first play for the disc to either the track you want or the menu
2.) If a track is first play (better form) then have the last frame be the background of the menu you are going to and set the jump from the track to the menu
or
3.) http://dvdstepbystep.com/motion.php and http://dvdstepbystep.com/useelements.php (still a good idea to have the first play be a short track even of a couple of seconds of black then set end jump to the menu)

• Opening Videos from Left Menu Requires Right Click

I have multiple Windows 7 computers with iTunes installed. I have noticed that whan trying to open videos from the left menu, the only way to get it working is to wight click on the mouse, left clicking does not work. Does anyone know anything about this and how to resolve it?

I encountered the same problem. A quicker workaround then restarting firefox is to just minimize and maximize. Don't know why but that works.

• Background video in animated menu.

Have searched around the forums but can't find a definite answer to this.
I created an animated menu in After Effects with a background motion loop video.
Total length of 30 secs with button highlight appearing after 13 secs.
If I set the loop point in Encore for approx 14 secs the animated menu and button highlightetc all works ok
but the motion video in the background also stops at this point.
I assume this is probably correct but if not can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Alternatively, if it is correct, are there any tricks which would allow the background video loop to continue for the full 30secs?
Hope I have explained this clearly enough.
Thanks .

Did you use any of these? If not, take a peek to see if you did it right. (I'm wondering if your still menu is covering the motion in AE.)

• Preview video in a menu

When I have a button highlighted in a menu, I want a window beside to play a preview to the video clip which it is linked to (No audio). Is this possible, and how do I do it?

Not easily done.
The rectangle covering the button would also need to cover the video. When in normal state the video section would need to look like the background so you do not see the movie at all, or if you like you can have the overlay have some opacity but make it tranlsucent so the video clip becomes brighter (not obscured) when selected.
Take a look here
http://dvdstepbystep.com/rollover.php
You could also make a series of menus an have buttons auto activate (but that will slow things down and some players require a press to select a button, which defeats the effect. Same thing for button over video.)

• How to get rid of menu screen? Video stalls at menu.

Hello,
I am submitting a video for a credential I am working on, and the video must be completely unedited with no menu screen. The best I have been able to do so far is to clear out the titles on a black movie screen (working with a theme in iDvD), and add my video footage onto the back of this. But when I try to play the video I have created in a DVD player, the video will stall on the black menu screen and not proceed to my actual footage unless I press STOP, then PLAY. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable to the organization to which I am submitting my video.
How can I get the video to burn straight from iMovie to the DVD burner (LaCie Lightscribe) without any themes or frames? Or, how can I get it to stop getting stuck on the black menu screen?
Thank you for your help.

In iDVD, you can drag your movie to the box before the menu starts. It will play in full before the menu comes up. You might even be able to totally delete the menu slide once you have done this, but I haven't tried that yet since I usually use a menu.

• Video in DVD menues

I had this problem before. The video clips in a menu will not play in the simulator or on the created DVD. To fix the problem a certain file (maybe a preference file) had to be thrown away. I can not remember what file that is. Does anyone know its name? Thanks.

com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist (in Library/Prefs) is the pref file I think you are looking for(?)

• Play menu / video selector / gallery menu

I am searching for a tutorial.You've all seen it, especially
on youtube (and plenty of others), it's a great trend at the moment
- when your flash video finishes playing (or even before you watch
a selected video) you get a gallery of related videos to choose
from / scroll through in the same window where the movie plays -
NOT in a sidebar - but right in the same spot as the video you just
viewed.
I think this is great and I have trawled the web trying to
find a tute on how to do it but I can't find anything so far.
A bit like
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_playlist/videoplaylist_deploy/VideoPlayli st.html
from
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_playlist.html
BUT I don't want the XML driven gallery on the side - I want it
over the top of the video when the video isn't playing.
Has anybody come across how to do this - can you point me in
the right place to get started?
Cheers
Marty

I don't think that's truly fixed. I need to fix the problem so that I can have tailored made menu backgrounds.
I have recently upgraded to the Universal version and it is now having the same problem. It seems whenever there is an MPEG-2 file used for my Menu Background. It simulates perfectly fine, then after the build and format, when checking my dvd, I have lost my background and is replaced by a white background. Everything functions properly though.
I have used this same mpeg-2 background in previous versions of DVD Studio, so I assumed that it was an upgrade problem.
Any help?

• Buttons Over Video In A Menu?

Hi,
I created a 40-second motion menu (Menu 1 in the scheme of things) with a music track. I will put "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection" buttons in this menu, but I want to them to appear about 15 seconds after the menu starts playing. Is there a way to do this? I know you can put buttons over video for the main video track at any time, but how about a looping menu?
TIA,
James

What I did was add my short intro video to the end of my main video track (V1) in the Track Editor, and add a chapter marker between them. Then I set the First Play setting of the disk to that chapter marker. Then I set the disk's End Jump setting to Menu 1 (my main menu with highlighted navigation buttons). This was pretty simple to do and it looks seamless during simulation.
So, the disk will play the intro video first, then jump to to the main menu.

• How do I display a slide show as a video on a menu?

Hi I am attempting to attach a Encore slide show to a menu, displaying the slide show as a video with audio. I am using CS6 Master Collection. I can create a slide show video in PrePro and save it as a video but I wish to take advantage of Encore's pan and zoom functions.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry; I read "attach" as "link to" and thought you were asking about a regular old slideshow.
You can't play a slideshow as if it is a video background to the menu. How would DVD functioning allow you to control the slideshow within a menu?
Also, Encore is not going to render an Encore slideshow into something you can then play as a video, and therefore not something you can attach as a video background.
You'll have to create the slideshow, using regular editing transitions, in Premiere or similar.
DVD or Bluray? I assume DVD, but you don't say. I wonder if you could get what you want playing a slideshow and using a popup menu.

• Looping Video WITH DVD Menu?

Is it possible to loop a video continuously with iDVD '08 and still have a menu? I know it is possible to loop a video forever on iDVD '07, but you had to sacrifice having a menu.
If this doesn't make sense I will be more than happy to elaborate. Thanks in advance!
Alex

I don't think so, but it may be possible. Why don't you try the iDVD forum? You might find someone who actually knows.

• Flash Video Under Dropdown Menu problem

I have been consistently affect by this problem for the last few days.  I have a menu that needs to dropdown above the flash video. The problem is that the dropdown appears behind the flash and cannot be clicked. I have narrowed it down to some sort of implementation of the wmode="transparent" but this is not easy.
The code I got to work was
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="someID" width="632" height="220">
<param name="movie" value="http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/yhst-57905738662791/main.swf">
<param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"> <param name="name" value="someValue">
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/yhst-57905738662791/main.swf" width="632" height="220">
<!--<![endif]-->
<img src="preview.gif" alt="Preview">
<p>Download the flash player</p>
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<param name="bgcolor" value="#000000">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true">
<param name="name" value="someValue">
</object>
<!--<![endif]-->
</object>
In internet explorer this code allows the flash file to be behind the menu. But not for Firefox (3.5) Unfortunately, when I add the required
<embed>
tags to the object and make the flash video appear behind the firefox menu, the link in the video no longer works. Because there is a single link within the flash video we use.
PS. the code above was copied and tweak from a flash tutorial site. So I will not take the credit as my own.
