Video iPod Display Corrupted

My video iPod is suddenly now displaying thin lines on the left 1/3 of the screen, a black splotch on the lower right hand corner of the screen, and cracked "lines" emanating from the splotch. The screen itself is not cracked. I cannot see any menus. The iPod plays, but I can't read any menus. This just happened in the last 30 minutes (it has not been dropped, etc.).
I have restored the unit to factory settings using the most recent iPod updater. I also have the latest version of iTunes (it restored all of my lost music files).
Can anyone help?

Well, your iPod is pretty much ruined beyond anything you can do with the 5 Rs, so send it in. Your display is severely damaged if it is showing black splotches and all that.
Request iPod service, they wil send you a box:

As of this morning I can't update my video ipod via the latest version of Itunes. It won't allow me to sync podcasts, put music on or even video. The error message is: File or Folder Corrupted.
Has anyone seen something like this before? It played fine last night. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks!

    Have you restored it?

  • Contacts not displaying properly in video iPod, need help

My contacts do not display properly on my video iPod. The phone numbers sometimes have dashes and sometimes do not in the iPod but the phone numbers always have the dashes in my address book on my G4 desktop. Example: iPod 555 555 1212 or 5555551212 or 555-555-1212
address book 555-555-1212 (always has the dashes)
I want the Ipod to display the way it looks in the address book, always using the dashes. I am total type A and it drives me crazy when they are not all the same!
    I have iTunes 7 on a MDD G4 running 10.4
    Thanks!

    hi,
By default Messages should grab info from the Address Card in the Contacts app even if the iCloud option is not checked (and then syncing with other computers and iOS devices that are also set to sync this way).
However the Contacts App does need to be opened and have the Preferences > Accounts checked to see it is using a Valid Account.
The Address Cards need to list iMessages and possibly AIM and Jabber ID info as well.
Next you need to check the View Menu in Messages.
The Buddy Name option only used to work in Buddy List but now seems to also effect the main Messages window.  (So you can change it here to Handle, which is ID or Screen Name).
Lower down is the option to display Names, Pictures or Name and Pictures next to people in the Chats.

  • Video ipod data became corrupt and now wont do anything

my video ipod 30G said it was corrupted one day which made me angry so i reset it to the factory settings took like 10 minutes to reset and now it doesnnt show up in itunes. it shows up in mycomputer but when i try to access it it just freezes up.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I was having issues with my 80G Video iPod and had to restore it, but now it seems all of my music on it previously is "corrupt" . How did all my songs get corrupted and how do I fix them?

I was having issues with syncing my 80G video iPod, so I restored it, and now all my songs in my library are "corrupted" and I can't get them back on my iPod. I keep getting error(-69). How did my songs all get corrupted, and how do I fix this without having to purchase these songs all over again?

Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time; you can see what content you can download here:

You can also re-download content using an iOS device.

This if course will not apply to songs you did not buy through the iTunes Store.

  • IPod Video (80GB) display/working issues

My 80GB Video iPod that cost me almost $400 about 5 years ago just started having display issues where the screen's all black or dark, it no longer shows any playlist or options, all I can get out of it is that when I attempt to do that fix (shift Hold switch back and forth a few times, then press and hold both the center circle and the Menu button at the same time for 10 seconds, and repeat until the Apple logo shows up) that usually did the trick in the past, but this time the Apple logo is only very very dark, for the first time ever, and even flickers between that and just showing nothing. No matter how many times I repeat the fix I can't seem to cure it.

You either have a failing back light or, more likely after 5 years, the battery is failing on your iPod. You can send it to Apple for a new one, buy one and do it yourself or send it to a 3rd party for a new battery. Here are a few relevant sites:

  • Video Ipod Picture Display Issue

    Hey guys,
I have a 30gig Video Ipod that displays album art when it is downloaded from Itunes -- but when I add the album art myself (say it's a local band, or an import CD) it's very sparatic as to which it will display (you'll always see it in Itunes, but very hit or miss when just listening to the Ipod alone).
    Has anyone had similar issues?

My ipod will not pick up all the album art that is obviously available on itunes and it will only display it in one corner of the ipod screen. I can't figure out how to fix this either. So I can't watch my movie or tv shows because they're too small.

  • Album covers displayed on Video iPod?

How do I get album covers displayed on my Video iPod?

Copy the album artwork from somewhere like Google images or Amazon or where I like to get from http://www.thejosher.net/iTunes/ and go to the song you want with that artwork and right-click to get info and go to artwork and paste it; You can do the same with multiple songs except you would have to press and hold the CTRL button and click on the songs at the same time.

  • Video IPOD won't display songs, albums, playlists!

  • 30GB Video Ipod must restore, but cant due to error 1418

So I was listening to my ipod yesterday and it was fine. I picked a new song, and it started to skip songs rapidly. It all of a sudden messed and now it says I need to restore it. I plugged my ipod into my itunes (which is completly up to date) and itunes says
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
Disconnecting and reconnecting gave me the same thing, so I clicked restore. Since I'm on a mac, i typed in the correct user name and password. Then I get the error
"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)"
and when I click Ok, the iPod screen goes away and I'm left with an iPod that needs to be restored. I've repeated the steps many times and the same messages come up over and over and over. What can I do here?

  • Error 1418 on BRAND NEW Video ipod - Only 48 hours old!

    Hi,
Just upgraded from a click wheel ipod to a new 80GB video Ipod. Installed itunes 7.02 and everything worked fine. Last night got the message saying an update was avaliable for my ipod so I clicked update and since then I get the following messages
    1. The ipod could not be read from or written to.
    2. The ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored
    3. Unknown error - 1418
    I have tried
    1. 5r's
    2. Reformat through windows
The ipod now says it is corrupt and needs to be restored through itunes but itunes only returns the 1418 message.
I have googled this to death and there seems to be alot of issues with the new firmware. I am really annoyed as I havent even had chance to listen to my music yet and ive spent alot of money on it.
Any one have any ideas please, any other Video users had a similar problem after the firmware update?
    Thanks

The link works for me. However, here's the post.
iTunes7 & 5th gen iPod updating - is this possible solution? (winXP)

Downloaded iTunes 7 and you've gone through the 5 R's until your red in the face?
    * This probable solution 'stumbled upon' using a 60GB video. I have no idea if the process will work the same for nano. But if your desperate and have backed up your library... full steam ahead.
If you've noticed that your iPod does not show up in My Computer, but shows up in iTunes, and the new Update or Restore option within iTunes (Summary tab of a recognized iPod) doesn't work (choosing 'Update' gives you error 1417 and 'Restore' gives you error 1418 - whatever they mean) then give this a try:
    1. Restart your computer - just to make sure we're all on the same page
    2. Start up/Load iTunes
    3. Connect your iPod to your computer - it may take a little time for iTunes to connect to your device
    4. When the dialogue box pops up telling you that a new version of firmware (ver. 1.2) is available choose: INSTALL
    5. As iTunes shows you a progressive bar of 'installing' (the bar scrolls across again and again) use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option in your taskbar and stop "Apple iPod USB Device". The computer will then tell you that the device can now be removed
    6. "Installing" continues... plug in/connect iPod again. The "Install" continues like nothing's happened. Weird, huh?
    7. Apple logo and Update status bar should now appear on your dimmed iPod screen (because of no backlight)
    8. At this point, dialogue box pops up on computer to tell you that updating continues
    9. "Do Not Disconnect" symbol will then show on your iPod
    10. Process finishes after a time, and now the Summary tab says the iPod has been updated.
HA!!! If this is all that troubles you - HUZZAH! And I hope this helped.
Now that we've come this far... I've found that when I normally open iTunes and plug in my iPod to aunto-sync, I now get ERROR (-50) -> Mac needs to get a database online or something to tell me what these 'errors' mean so I don't freak out when I get one...
    1. Go BACK to the Summary tab or your recognized deive in iTunes. Now choose RESTORE. Make sure whatever is on your iPod can be replaced
    2. This part takes time
    3. Computer will pop with dialogue box saying that iPod is restored and being changed to factory settings
    4. Prompt then pops up for you to name your little iPod. At this stage you can choose to 'Auto-sync songs and vids when connected' or 'Auto-sync photos' and from which directory. It's up to you.
    5. iTunes will then thank you for registering your iPod. From this point, the files are copied to your device. Depending on how large your library is affects how long this process takes.

  • Loading Itunes TV show to Video Ipod fails

I purchased an Itunes season pass for BCS football games. The pregame content and the the short cut version (approx 20 minutes runtime each) loaded fine. When trying to get the full broadcast transfered from Itunes to the Pod (2+ hours of content) it will stop about 10 minutes shy of completion with error message saying the disk can neither be read from or written to. This has happened 4 times now. i even bought a new song, downloaded it, and moved it to the pod with no problem. I reset the Ipod and it still fails. All software for tunes and pod is up to date. Any help?
    pc xp pro

That article doesnt address my issue. In troubleshooting, i went and bought another Itunes song, and it loaded fine. Further, this error occured twice prior to me loading one of the smaller video selections. The smaller file loaded fine. If a purchased video selection is corrupt, how do i get a replacement?

  • 30 GB Video Ipod, having a problem

    Hello there,
My video iPod has been giving me a few problems. One day it tells me to connect to computer to restore it, okay I do that (connect not restore), then when the iPod loads in iTunes it says 'itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted', then the picture that shows up is an iPod click wheel! So I'm kind of scared to restore it and have iTunes thinking that my Video iPod is an iPod Clickwheel. Has anyone ever had this problem? Or any idea why this happened?

I'm going to assume you use a Windows PC (as you've left us to guess!!)
If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
Incidentally, your iPod video has a click wheel!
