Video ipod froze

I purchased a movie from those online "movies to ipod" sites (buyimovies.com) and put it on my 80g video ipod. the movie worked fine as i would watch about a half hour each night before bed. one night, the screen went dark and the ipod froze. i tried rebooting the ipod but it would not let me. i had to let the battery drain before i could use my ipod again. like an idiot, i tried it again with the same result. i have not purchased an Itunes movie yet nor do i have any other video files on my ipod. do you think there is something wrong with my ipod or do you think it was the video file. i just find it weird how one day it just stopped working.
any suggestions

Try playing the movie in Quicktime and see if it doesn't play there too. This site seems to be half-dead right now. I wonder what they are encoding with, what codec and where they get the license?

  • My 30 GB video ipod froze.  Cannot do ANYTHING

How do I disconnect the battery so the power shuts off? At this point that is probably the ONLY thing I can do. I tried holding the middle and up button for 3 seconds, and nothing happens when I plug it in. Do I have to wait for the stupid battery to die out??? It froze when I skipped to new song. I didn't drop it or anything.
    Please help!!!!

Clarification: I held the menu and center button for about 20 seconds, not 3 seconds.

  • Video iPod freezes, no longer syncs

I've had a 5th gen. video iPod since January 2005. Been working perfectly until recently: I was going to skip a song and the screen froze up on me. So I held down the Menu and Center buttons (like I normally do to reset), but this time when the iPod booted back up, I got a white screen saying I needed to connect to iTunes to restore.
So I got home, connected to iTunes and hit the "restore" button to return original factory settings. Then I copied all my iTunes songs back onto the iPod. The next day I was playing songs on Shuffle, and when I would try to skip to the next song, the iPod would work really slowly. So I did a reset again and when the iPod booted up again--everything had been erased.
So I restored the iPod again, but had problems when trying to copy my iTunes library. I got an error message saying that I was missing a necessary file (it didn't specify which one) and could not sync.
Now when I even try to restore again, I get an error message saying I can't restore due to an unknown error (1418).
    Can anyone help me?

Hm. Well, since your iPod is already blank, try hooking it up to another computer and replace it with that library. If it works fine there, then your iPod's fine, and the problem is the iTunes and iPod software on your computer. Try uninstalling (to go control panel - add/delete programs to make sure it's gone) and then installing the newest updates. Then connect your iPod, restore, and sync. Try that first?

  • Video iPod has now crashed twice

I've been using my video iPod for just under two weeks now, and it has frozen on me twice. The first time, it froze when I docked it with iTunes, and today it froze when I went to start a video. In the first instance, I couldn't do anything with it until the battery ran out and it shut itself off. Right now, I am waiting for the same thing as the screen just shows a tiny strip of the video clip.
One more thing... often I cannot shut off my iPod after having watched a video. I have to play a song first before I can shut the machine off.
Have other people experienced these problems with their video ipods? My mini has never been this much trouble.

Reset your iPod when it gets stuck by pressing Menu and Center until the Apple logo appears.
Yes, others and I have the problem of the iPod not going to sleep after watching a video. It's a bug Apple will fix sometime next year or the year after.

  • VIDEO IPOD HELP....REAL BAD

i've just about had it with Apple...this isn't the first time (last year with my 20 GB i had all sorts of trouble) AND ITS STARTING TO **** ME OFF. I got a video ipod about a year ago and and its been working beautifully and i treated it like a baby. just a few scratches and one drop while it was in its case not that far off the ground. I was listening to it last night and all of a sudden it froze...this freeze is different..the screen is on, the motor sounds like its on, but when i turn the ipod a little it makes a funny sound (like the engine is hitting something) I pluged it in and tried reseting it, ive tried pluging it in my frickin computer. but nothing works, and it really makes me MAD.

Sounds like harddrive problem. Have you tried restoring it?

  • FROZEN 60 GIG Video iPod

I have a brand new 60 GIG Video iPod. The iPod froze during the import of new music and video files. The display has the "Do not disconnect" icon and label shown in the display. Attempting to reset the iPod using the instructions from Apple's support site for iPod issues - the five R's, the iPod will not respond to any of the options provided. Is there another solution to reset the iPod or is this one just destined to be replaced under warranty?

Repeated attempts at following Apple's technical support documentation of the "five R's". Interestingly the sequence did not work initially, but recovered after several attempts.

  • Video Ipod frozen

I have had my video ipod for about a month now and i just bought some software to convert dvds to ipod format. It worked, but when i was watching the dvd, my ipod froze. I clicked menu and put it to sleep. I then turned it back on and clicked on now playing. When i did, It went to a black screen with the backlight on. I have tried reseting it and hooking it up to my computer, but nothing has worked. I need some ideas.

If the normal reset doesn't work, there isn't anything left to try...... except this one thing. Yesterday, there was a thread. About ten people in this thread had the same problem as you and nothing worked. A guy came on, posted this reset method and everyone was jumping for joy. I'd never heard of it before, so if you try it, PLEASE POST BACK AND LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS...
    1. switch hold on and off and reset the pod normaly.
    2. If the Pod reboots push Center and Play until the Pod turn off
    3. Flick the hold-switch on and off slowly (one on and off per second or slower) until the Pod restarts with the normal black screen with the apple. If the iPod is not reborn after 10 switches wait a little an restart the procedure at 1.

  • Ipod Froze in the time setting screen

I just bought an Ipod Video. Set the language, set the time and then turned on the time in title function. This is where my Ipod froze and won't reset.
What if anything am I doing wrong? I followed all of the reset instructions.

Just to make sure unless you followed a link to the actual Reset instructions at Apple, some are posting reset instructions and leaving out the first step which seems to be a must for resetting so I just wanted to make sure you got the right instructions:
Slide the hold button back and forth.
Next hold the menu and select (center circle) down for 6 to 10 seconds until the apple icon appears. Then it will be reset.

  • IPod Froze someone HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My iPod froze, 1st it wouldn't play the songs (and it wasn't the earphones-i checked) 2nd when i was searching to find a song and try to fix it, it froze compleatly!!!!!!! the "Hold" switch, Wheel, and Buttons don't work. I'm about to scream because i need to be able to use my iPod ASAP. SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!please!

    Hi,
Have you guys tried Resetting the iPod, just like the guy posted? Try to Reset the iPod first, by Change the Hold switch to Hold first (iPod is on Hold), then change it back to Off (iPod is not on Hold). Make sure the Hold switch is OFF, then Press and Hold the Middle button and Menu button at the same time until you can see the Apple Logo appears. Try to do that by laying the iPod on Flat smooth surface and keep your hands still. Then you might want to remove everything from your iPod and re-sync everything back to your iPod again. Be careful to backup everything!!!
My iPod still tries to reset itself several times, specially when I want to switch from playing music to playing video. Just give your iPod some time to load thing for you. Clicking or using it TOO Fast can lead to this problem, too.

  • Ipod froze up!  Help

I am hoping someone might give me some advice. I was out jogging. I had my new Video Ipod playing along. All of a sudden it just stopped and froze with about .20 left on a song. It was just plain stuck. After about 10 minutes it turned itself off and I was able to restart it. Any thoughts why this might have ahppened?
    Thanks
    Mark Gray

Mark: I personally wouldn't advise jogging with a hard drive based iPod. The exagerated body movement may cause the drive heads to bump across the drive surface damaging sectors that could lead to the early demise of the drive and therefore your iPod. You may be lucky and have gotten away with it. The iPod may have paused and stuck because the drive heads did skipped and stuck and were able to reset themselves after a "cold" start-up.
Perhaps a nano or shuffle would be better for using when jogging, its not as if you can watch the Video!

  • Ipod froze while listening

i have a 30GB iopd with video.it froze while i was listening to it.I tried to restart as well as reset it but it just wont respond.I tried to connect it to the usb but now the computer wont recognize it.It is still showing the song i was playing on it but it wont respond.Any ideas???????

Make sure you are resetting the iPod correctly.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
    Also, see these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
Restoring using disk mode is often the key.
Just as an aside, if you have more questions about the iPod with video, it should be posted in this forum.

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.
video   Windows XP   Sony Media Station Both computers

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

  • My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
