Video iPOD reboots when starting Video

I have just purchased my Second 5th Gen iPOD. Some of the Videos that worked on the 1st iPOD make the new one Re-Boot when attempting to display a video.
MPEG4, 480x480, 1500kb/sec data rate, stereo, 48 kHz

The only thing I've found in common with all 3 of
those files is that they are all MONO and not stereo.
The Nov 16th version was stereo and did not cause me
any reboot issues. If I convert these problem files
to WAV and back to a stereo MP3, I have no reboot
problems
Why not simply convert them to stereo MP3? You don't
need to first convert them to WAV.
Well, if I use the MP3 conversion in itunes, the file still reboots my iPod. So I have to use another program to convert it to a WAV and then back to MP3 - there are probably other programs out there that can do this in one step, but the one I already had requires the extra step. Besdies, I shouldn't have to do this at all. It should just work, shouldn't it?
Aside from that, disabling functionality on my
iPod is not an acceptable solution.
You are right. It's obvious that turning off the EQ
is simply a workaround until it gets fixed.
Oh, wait, it's fixed.
Update your iPod with the newest firmware (1.2.1)
Well, please note that when I started this thread, I was indeed up to date on both the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of the available firmware.
I just tried this update (1.2.1) and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks, apple!

  • 5.5 Gen Video Ipod rebooting when trying to play certain PodCasts.

    Hi,
After enjoying an Ipod Nano for a year and loving every minute, I went ahead and purchased the new 80GB Video iPod.
Its great but it has a tendency to reboot for no apparent reason when playing certain PodCasts. For example: Its impossible to play the Buzzcast episode: BuzzCast 09/27/06 - "Microsoft protects your ****". The Ipod shuts off and reboots every time. I'm using Itunes 7.0.1 and the Ipod is running the latest available firmware.
Can anyone else who also owns the new 80GB iPod download this particular episode and confirm?
By the way, I've also noticed that even though the iPod is connected / docked with iTunes and clearly visible in the panel to the left, The message "Waiting for iPod" is displayed when trying to re-sync a while later. The only way to get iTunes to make contact with the iPod again is to physically disconnect the cable and reconnect, (even though the iPod icon was still clearly visible to the left thus indicating already established contact with the iPod) Weird!
    Anyone else having this experience?
    Input appreciated.
    Kind regards / Alex

WHAT was apple thinking when they released iTunes 7.0 and firmware 1.2!? I installed in on my 60gb Video and the whole thing went to pot.
    1. It sounded horrible
    2. It would only allow me to download about 25% of my movies to the iPod (I have a large library and I take movies on and off depending on what I feel like for the trip I am taking.)
AppleCare Support was USELESS. Here is what I finally figured out to get the pod working right again:
    1. Uninstalled iTunes 7 from my computer (PC).
    2. Went into the registry editor and deleted all remaining references to iTunes.
    3. Restored the firmware to the version that came with the iPod last January.
    4. Used the 2006.06.28 firmware updater
    5. Installed iTunes 6.0.5
It works like a charm, just like it did before Apple "made things better."
AppleCare told me that they could not support songs ripped from my CD's, or any video that had not been purchased from iTunes. I am certain that the reason for this had nothing to do with their wanting a monopoly on music and video that will work on an iPod. Then he offered to report the problem I was having to their development team.
I asked him if other people were having problems with iTunes 7. He said the question was not relevant to my problems! I pressed him more for an answer and he continued to parrot what Apple has obviously told him to say. "My new 80gb Video is working fine. I have not had the problems you are having."
    DON'T UPGRADE TO ITUNES 7!!!!
I have ordered an 80gb since he said they work so flawlessly. Reading in this discussion, it appears that plenty of new 80gb users are frustrated too.

  • 30 Gig Video iPod reboots when playing certain podcasts

    Hi everyone,
I listen to an audio podcast called Diggnation. I usually put it on my iPod so I can listen to it in the car on my way to/from work.
I have posted about this over at the Revision 3 forums. Here is the thread for anyone who may be interested:
    http://www.revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2149
To sum up: I have tried turning off the EQ (as suggested in the Apple Knowledge base article here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304490) and it does NOT make a difference. My iPod still reboots. Aside from that, disabling functionality on my iPod is not an acceptable solution. Especially when this problem doesn't exist on older iPods (I had a friend with an older one test this for me.) My iPod ought to be able to play a simple MONO MP3 file.
If anyone else wants to try this, I had the problem with the November 9th, November 23rd, and November 30th episodes of Diggnation that I downloaded through iTunes. The only thing I've found in common with all 3 of those files is that they are all MONO and not stereo. The Nov 16th version was stereo and did not cause me any reboot issues. If I convert these problem files to WAV and back to a stereo MP3, I have no reboot problems.
I have tried resetting my iPod. I have tried removing the podcast from my iPod and copying a new download of it back on to the iPod - no difference.
Any suggestions? Or does anyone at Apple know what's going on here?
    Thanks.

  • IPad 2 reboots when starting any Video

    I have an 16g Wi-Fi iPad 2 running OS5.
Some Games I have will not play unless in AirPort Mode.
Any video, including one from Apple's website will not play.  Not only will they not play as soon as they are loaded it reboots my iPad.
I've tried reseting and restoring my device.  I've also it up as a new iPad and did not restore anything and the problem persists.
Does anyone else have this issue or have some other troubleshooting advice?
    Thanks

If resetting and restoring to factory settings do not help, then it is time to contact Apple for a replacement under the Apple warranty.

  • Pc reboots when starting iTunes

    Hello,
Untill a few days ago, iTunes worked fine. But when I start iTunes now, the computer reboots. I tried the "repair" option, which succeeded. That didn't solve the problem. I tried to remove iTunes, but that caused the computer to reset again. Update and reinstall didn't help either.
How can I solve this issue...?
      Windows XP

    Found the solution:
I checked iTunes by executing the following command in a terminal window:
    codesign -vvv /Applications/iTunes.app
I reinstalled iTunes because my result was different from the expected output:
    /Applications/iTunes.app/: valid on disk
    /Applications/iTunes.app/: satisfies its Designated Requirement
I logged in as a root user.
    In /Library/Preferences/ I deleted
    - com.apple.alf.plist
    - com.apple.alf.plist.lockfile
(although I could not empty the trash bin due to the lockfile, you can after a reboot)
I clicked on the iTunes.app application and pressed command+i
In that window I allowed everyone to read/write
I've moved the application to the trash bin.
After rebooting the mac and logging in as a root user, I could empty the trash bin.
I made sure that my firewall was started again, and downloaded the latest version of
    iTunes (currently 10.5.1).
Launching iTunes doesn't give any warnings anymore because it's auto-trusted by mac.
    Hope this helps others.

  • IPOD reboots when playing AAC format material

Bought the G5 IPOD two weeks ago and everything about it is great except... it will not play any AAC formatted material. I copied my purchased iTunes music and audiobooks to the IPOD and every file causes a reboot at some random point during playback. I purchased an audiobook and ripped it to my iTunes using the current recommended rip methods (Join tracks into one session, change extentions from m3a to m3b for bookmarking capability)and if fails as well. The only way to get audiobooks or spoken word to work on the IPOD is to import in the mp3 format. Podcasts, music, photo, etc. all work as expected. Ready to return the IPOD for a refund if this can't be fixed. Is anyone else having a similar problem and if so what was done to correct it. Thanks! -JeepSc8

These are the ‘standard’ fist steps to this type of issue:
Try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and put the music back on your iPod, from iTunes.
Post back if the above did not work for you.

  • G780 reboots when starting.

    Lenovo G780, Windows 8.1 x64
    Issue:
Normal startup sequence: Press power button > power button lights up along with lenovo loading screen > continues to windows login screen.
    Current startup sequence:
Press power button > First 2 seconds- power button lights up, blank screen.
After about 2 seconds, I hear what seems like the hard disk stopping (crashing sound).
Then the system restarts as usual: lenovo loading screen > continues to windows login screen.
Initially, this issue was seen intermittently. Now this happens everytime. Along with this, waking from sleep crashes the system after about a second.
I mostly use the system plugged in. Recently I tried booting from battery and the system wont start-no response at all!
The issue is seen also when the battery is not inserted.
At times, I see that the power button does not light up while the system is running.
I changed the hard disk and the issue still exists. I have also tried the latest nvidia drivers. Also tried Lenovo diagnostics.
Really hoping for a solution; Thank You.

  • When starting up - no video

    Hi there,
I have been having problems with my G5 when starting it up it will not display any video. I hear the start up sound, but the monitors do not turn on. This has been going on for the past few months, it usually takes 3 tries before the monitors will kick in. But most recntly it took over 10 - i finally disconnected all the external drives and when starting up he monitors came on. I have tried resetting my video ram. Do you think i need to get a new video card?

Have you run the Extended Tests from the Apple Hardware Test disk?

It is guitardad's again... I read past topics on this issue... As I am not overly computer savvy, I want to be careful that I don't mess things up further... Of course the extended warranty is done... There is talk about booting from the system disc...  I'm not sure if this is the first thing to do or not... Can the support community, advise me on what logical steps I should take ( in order) or direct me to a website and/ or you tube video that walks one safely through the processes... Once again thank you for reading and offering your advice... I am on fixed $$$ so I'm trying to avoid calling apple, unless I have no options and/or the suggestions do not resolve the issues... Tx again Don.

When syncing my ipod it's started to sync music that's "unticked". How do I stop this??

Make sure the Sync only checked songs and videos option is NOT ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and select it from under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes.  You should now be under the Summary tab.  Be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner after making the change to the settings.

  • When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Please help. My ipod classic could not be recognised by itunes when I connect my ipod to PC. Previously it has been recognised before I updated. This was a while ago now and so I removed all apple files and re installed the latest itunes but am having the same problem.
When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:
9/23/2009 3:18:45 PM Blocked by Access Protection rule NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\iPod Service Common Maximum Protection:Prevent programs registering as a service Action blocked : Create
Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.
