Video Ipod Scratched Screen Refab?

My video Ipod, which is nearly 2 years old now, has a badly scratched screen. I remember seeing an infomercial years ago where this solution was put on eye glasses and it took care of the surface scratches. I don't know if it actually worked but I wonder if there is something like that for the Ipod? I know I heard other people mention the screen scratched easily when they first came out but I don't know if the issue was ever addressed by Apple or a 3rd party.
I love my Ipod but watching clear video through scratches is annoying.

Example of what I mean...

  • Does the new Video iPod scratch as easily as the old?

I'm thinkig aobut getting a new 80gb Video Ipod to replace my "old" 30 GB video iPod. Does the new version scratch as easily as the old?

I've been to Bestbuy and Circuit City also, no scratches on any of the new video iPods yet. They must have switched to a scratch resistant plastic for the screens. I've looked at the new video iPods at the Apple store, Bestbuy, and Circuit City and none show the slightest scuff after a few weeks. The only scratch I saw was where someone intentionally damaged one of the screens with a knife or something.

  • Video iPod- white screen, 3 beeps, turns itself back on, G5 can't recognize

With my 60 GB video iPod all I now get is a white screen. All I can do is turn it off by pressing Center/Menu and get three beeps, but it turns itself on again with those same three beeps, to the blank white screen again. My G5 does not recognize the iPod when plugged in. The iPod and the G5 are both still under warranty. Anyone have any suggestions?

    iPod Issues?
These five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    1. Reset your iPod.
    2. Retry with a different USB port.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Reinstall iPod and iTunes software.
    5. Restore your iPod.
    Those are the five Rs

  • Nano Scratches vs. Video iPod Scratches

Which one is more prone to scratching, or are they equally vulnerable? I'm thinking about getting this kind because my nano's getting scratched just sitting on a microfiber. Is this one coated in some kind of anti-scratch material?

    I messed up.
the plastic the ipod came in came off after 4 days. i usually leave the ipod in the case almost 24/7 and then i lost it. now i have nothing and there are a lot of scratches on my ipod. two are on the screen that are visible at all angles. i ordered a invis. shield TWO weeks ago but its still not here so thats great. i dont see why apple cant make it in a material that doesnt scratch so easily. ive had my razr phone for more then a year and it has no scratches at all! i keep it in my pocket, but if i put my ipod there then i wouldent even be able to see the screen there would be so many scratches. i think its ******** that. 1. no wall charger is uncluded. 2. the battery indicator is off by about 25% almost all the time. 3. the ipod material scratches so easily.
can anyone tell me something to clean the ipod screen that might actually get scratches off?

  • Black video ipod lcd screen discolored, no cracks--applecare?

When I looked at my ipod a few days ago all of a sudden i couldn't read the screen and there is a huge dark spot in the upper right and no color in the rest. What I need to know is whether I can send it in to applecare or not. I have the warranty but on the submit a claim page it says don't send in cracked lcds or anything of that nature. soo if there's anyone that could provide me with a sure answer...
can I submit my screen-damaged ipod with no cracks to applecare?
    Thanks
    -John

if you send it in and you are within your 6 months it will not hurt. you will just recieve it back if they determine if it was accidental damage. if you are outside of your 6 months then you will at least have to pay for shipping

  • Video Ipod X-coating Scratch resistance

So i came across this site, it offers a varieties of customisation you can do with your video ipod or ipod of other generations.
this site has one unique thing that caught me eyes. The
X-coating. Not everyday you see something with a name of the letter X.
So i research what it was and it says that the coating is a scratch resistance for the ipods.
I called them up and ask them about it, they said that it IS a resistance coating for the ipod but you have to send in your ipod for it to be coated or buy the ipod from them with the extra coating on it.
any thoughts on this X-coating material? any1 used it ?

    looks intersting.
but for all i know they just put on another layer of either clear acrylic to protect the surface, or maybe they replace the original screen and put a face plate made out of lexan instead.
until i they give me a how they do it kind of thing, i wouldn't go for it.

  • Plugging in Video iPod crashes WinXP (Blue screen)

I got my fiancee a Video iPod for Christmas. Unfortunately, WinXP crashes the moment the iPod is plugged in, giving a BSOD for usbport.sys. I've done a full reinstall of XP (needed to anyway), and all drivers/patches are completely up-to-date (yes, even checked the manufacturer's websites directly.) The really strange part is that the iPod connects correctly to my laptop. The issue goes beyod annoying though, since the computer with the problems is the PC we use as a media center i.e. it has the full audio/video library... any ideas?
    Thanks!

    hi Frostine!
Anyway, when they connect the ipod the computer completely crashes to the blue screen of death and does the physical memory dump. There is an error message, something along the lines of a driver issue.
we can sometimes narrow this down a bit by checking on the numerical and text codes showing up with the blue screen. (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm checking on:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
can you get that information for us from their PC?
(if the screen is specifying the file that Windows is crashing on, that would be helpful to know too.)

  • "White Screen" error after most recent update 60 gig video iPod

I just received the most recent iPod updater software. I installed the updater and ran same. After the update process my 60 gig video iPOD cannot be recognized by my MAC G5. It has a "White Screen" and WILL NOT turn off! When I attempt a reset it simply gives me a 2 or 3 tone beep (I've never heard the tone before). The screen goes dark and it reboots to a white screen. I've re-installed updater and iTunes. I've switched USB ports. I've shut down the computer as well as rebooted same. I've allowed the iPOD to fully discharge (which happened quickly since the screen will not blank). When the unit is plugged into the USB port it charges and the white screen reappears. The updater now refuses to see the iPod so I cannot reset to factory defaults. Any ideas?
The idiots at Apple instituted a 24/7 chat tech support line for iPod shuttle owners. The guys like me who paid the big bucks for their best product get stuck out in the cold! Apple's whole tech support schtick is barely one step ahead of Dell's! The charge premium prices for their product and I like Apple a lot, but their demand that you be either an Apple Care customer or .MAC user to get even rudimentary support *****!

Ok, for all the others out who experience this problem....I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple. You have to go to their SECOND level of support to get an answer. But there is a fix.
If you have a white screen and the unit beep 3 times after a reboot here's what you need to do to fix the problem. Warning all you data will be lost. It will have to be downloaded via iTunes again!
Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Hold the Select and Menu button down for about 7 seconds to until you get a beep. Then hold down the Select and PLAY button for 10 seconds. This will put the unit in hard disk mode. Wait awhile until the Apple screen goes away and if you get a progress bar wait until it is gone.
At this point it will take some finagling, but you basically hook the iPod back up to the computer and do a RESTORE. The iPod should be recognized by iPod updater. Your data MAY still be in place, but if you do not do a restore to factory defaults with the updater you will get the white-screen-three-beeps-problem again.
Once you reboot into the language screen you can reconnect the iPOD and download your data from iTunes.
I complained this info SHOULD be posted online. They guy was very nice and agreed but said that engineering was still collecting data. He thought it was a dumb idea not to post online or allow the first level support guys to fix the problem.
Hey Apple...if you read this how about collecting data on your goddamned time and at your expense. You're the SOBs that collected $399 for the product! Ever seen the Comcast or AOL video on YOUTUBE? You guys could be next!

  • Chance of screen burn-in with video Ipod

This is my first color ipod but I noticed that when it charged all night, the "do not disconnect" and flashing cross stay lit all night - the screen does not seem to go completely dark.
Is there any chance of a burn-in with this or not because of the display type?
    80gb video ipod

Burn-in is a phenomenon of cathode ray tubes (like the one in a standard tv set or an old computer monitor) or plasma tv displays. iPods have liquid crystal displays, which are immune to this problem.
Nothing to worry about here, and thanks for asking.

  • Are there any products to remove minor scratches from my iPod touch screen?

Just wondering if there are any products to remove minor scratches on my iPod touch screen? I used a screen protector, but I've still gotten several small scratches. Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks!

No! Not toothpaste! That can damage the screen. As far as the scratches, why does it matter? Everyone has at least some. I got some on the back of my iPod from sand. If you don't mind spending some money, buy an Otterbox. It keep debris out of your iPod and protects from drops. The defender series is the best one.

  • Thermal Problem Causes Screen Cracking in Video iPod

We purchased a 30Gb video iPod for Christmas. Last week the screen seem to have cracked pretty much on it's own. It was fine, went in the pocket, and twenty minutes later--without any seeming cause--it came out cracked and with two large, round ink blot looking spots on the otherwise blank white screen. It was in the protector and had absolutely no exterior damage whatever. At day 100 after the purchase we were concerned about warranty. But we called the Apple Store in Tampa, made an appointment and took it in.
The Genius Bar person said it was "thermal." That is, a component inside overheated, causing the inner glass layer of the screen to crack. She had seen about a half dozen of these with the video iPod. Usually, according to her, it happens on recharging. You plug it in at night and in the morning it's cracked. But here, it happened just during normal operation. Fortunately this cause for cracking was covered and we got a new iPod on the spot. Apparently here are some signs to look for:
    1. No exterior damage and you didn't drop it (that's not covered)
    2. Can be dark ink blot looking spots on the screen
    3. Any cracking is strickly of the inner glass layer
    4. The seam along the side is not popped open (evidence of a drop)
    5. It just seemed to do it on it's own and you honestly can't think of any reasonable cause.
They get a lot of people who drop their iPods or sit on them and crack the screen. That's not covered. But if the above describes yours, get in touch with Apple.

    Joseph.
I wanted to know if you could help me. I am having the same problem as you with my ipod. Apple isn't acknowledging that this is a problem here in Australia. I told them about your post on here and showed them the link but said there was no way to prove this as true. If you have any way to prove this as true and that you ipod was replaced that would help me out alot.
    Hope to hear from you.
