  • I think the 2ndGen nano has the DNA for games

Just from looking and using my 2ndGen nano with the Search features and the new Audio Recording, its seems to definitely have the guts to run games.
With the Search Feature etc. The Firmware has to be there I bet Apple left it off on purpose till MacWorld or the next iPod rollout.
Maybe not ALL the games but most.
But on second thought Apple seems to be headed down a path to make the full size iPod this all in one Media Device
and keep the nano just for music.
oh well its cool they doubled the storage space ut I doubt a year from now 9-20-07 Apple will redouble the Nanos storage space like they did with 1st gen nanos
    I mean 4GB for $149 and 16GB for $249

  • 8 GB Nano vs 30 GB Video Ipod

These are the same price. I'm trying to decide which to purchase. Are their any reasons other than size that I would choose the Nano over the Video Ipod with lots of storage?
      Windows XP

The Nano is also flash based vs. a hard drive in the video models. Flash memory is much more expensive than hard drives so this is why an 8GB flash player costs the same as a much larger capacity hard drive player. The benefit to a flash player is that it has no moving parts and will likely never fail. I've seen very few comments regarding Nanos failing. The most common hardware failure on hard drive players is the hard drive.

  • Video iPod Nano doesn't work when plugged in anymore

As of recently, whenever I plug my Video iPod Nano into my Hi-Fi the screen locks up. The music still plays through the Hi-Fi, and I can control the volume via the unit however the screen completely is frozen, and unresponsive to any movement on the clicker. It worked fine before, and this now a recent happening, and I have a feeling the latest update to the iPod Nano knocked it out.

I'm not not sure why this question is flagged as "answered".
I'm experiencing exactly the same behavior. If my nano (3G) is put into my HiFi while in play mode, it will continue playing through the HiFi, but the nano screen will freeze and its controls will become unresponsive. Only the HiFi volume can be controlled via the HiFi top buttons. Ditto for the remote - only the volume controls function (although the HiFi green LED responds to all remote commands as normal).
If the nano is inserted into the HiFi in menu mode, it just remains unresponsive. When taken out of the HiFi dock, it will invariably remain unresponsive for 30-40 seconds, then suddenly light up and return to normal.
In fact, my nano (3G) has always acted this annoying way with our HiFi - which continues to work flawlessly (extra menues and all) with the sundry older iPod models that we own.
Yes, I have tried resetting and restoring the nano (now at firmware version 1.1) and the HiFi no avail.
I'm curious to learn whether anyone has actually gotten a nano (3G) to work properly with a HiFi.
P.S. Great product the HiFi - can't for the good of me figure out why Apple discontinued it... It's truly adding insult to injury if this thing of beauty no longer works properly with the newer iPods.

  • Video IPod & IPod Nano won't work on Vista 64-bit system

I recently updated my OS to Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit system on my Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad PC. Somehow, I have a problem using my Video Ipod & Ipod Nano. After downloading the latest Itune+Quicktime & plugging in the USB cord connecting my IPods, i got this blue screen & different error message. When I reboot my PC, it won't run my OS unless I unplugged my Ipods. I tried istalling the old IPod software that comes with the IPod without any luck. Any idea on what's causing this problem? Are there any patch for Vista 64-bit that make the OS work with IPod?

    Hi,
I’ve got the new version of Itunes (7.6.1) but I still get the error where it tells me to download and install a 64-bit version of Itunes. This is just ridiculous!!! I bought my IPOD touch before Christmas and i still haven’t been able to use it!
I've uninstalled and installed itunes and all that rubbish about 5-6 times now, i've deleted everything to do with Apple from my machine and also nearly killed my machine because i messed around with the registry (that's my fault :P)
NOTE: I used IE 64-bit version to download the installer.
Anyone have a solution to the problem?

  • Video iPod to iPod Nano

I have my own Video ipod that has been set-up on my computer already with iTunes and my music library. My friend asked me to added some of my music albums to his iPod Nano. What do I do? Quicly help I must have this done by tomorrow. Anybody out there?

    It is illegal.
Copyrighted music can only be put on your own MP3 player. Giving it to someone else is illegal because they did not pay for it and obtained it for free.
Also, what you believe is legal and illegal doesn't matter. You agreed to the Terms of Use when you signed up. They state...
    3. Keep within the Law
    * No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
The law (the actual law, not your interpretation of it) and the Terms of Use are clear in this case.

  • Nano/ Video ipod how do i update both of them

ok here's the problem. I have a 30 GB video ipod, my wife has a nano. Now we want to put some songs on my itunes on her nano but for some reason it wouldn't come up on my computer. Now i'm just wondering how i go about doing this?? Any help would be great..

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

  • Exchange my broken nano for a video ipod?

The play/pause button on my 10-day-old nano stopped working so I used the online form to request warranty support. I shipped it today in the box they sent me.
I'd actually like a video ipod instead of a (scratch-prone) nano back - does Apple let people do this? How would a guy in Canada go about speaking to someone in authority about it? (I returned my nano through an online process; there was no phone number that I could find.)

    Hey afw,
You're a little confused about what other people were doing. They weren't sending in for repair, and getting new models- they were RETURNING their iPods (according to the return policy of where they bought it- with Apple, you have 14 days), and buying different ones instead.
If you send your iPod in for repair, you will get the EXACT same model back as you sent in- there is NO WAY around this.
And, if you have an engraved iPod, the 14 day return policy doesn't apply- it is unreturnable (though, under warranty, and of course repairable).

  • Error message when connecting 80GB Video iPod

I'm getting this error message when trying to connect my 80GB Video iPod:
"The iPod (name) cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)."
    Never seen this one before.
I haven't synced this iPod for a few weeks but it always behaved fine before, taking a few seconds to appear in iTunes (v7.5) then syncing perfectly when I hit the Sync button (I have it set to manually sync only because sometimes I want to change the contents or only sync music).
Before syncing on this occasion, I did an iPod software update via iTunes - iTunes said there was a newer version (1.2.3). After the update, I disconnected the iPod for a few minutes (somehting I wanted to check content before syncing), then reconnected it. At first iPod took about a minute to show up in iTunes - way too long. I Reset the iPod and tried again but still LONG delay to appear in iTunes (again about 1 minute). I did another Reset - same result. Then I did a complete Restore, after which syncing to restore the contents gave problems - it refused to finish the sync. I had to disconnect and start again, syncing the data one section per sync session - Contacts, music, videos, iCal - which seemed to work fine. Then I disconnected, waited a few minutes then reconnected the iPod to check. It wouldn't connect at all. Did a Reset, tried o connect again and it did connect but then proceeded to resync all my contacts taking almost 30 minutes (way too long) to do so (I had made NO changes in Address Book since that data was put in there). I tried to reconnect again but then got the error message (above). Did another total Restore and the same shenannigans happened. Now, I have an iPod with data on it and works fine, but iTunes won't recognise it - just gives this error message every time.
By the way, my 8GB Nano (software 1.1.3) seems to sync fine on the same system, same computer.
Could this be the 1.2.3 iPod software giving issues? I appreciate any help because I also use this iPod for recording for my work, which getting a little urgent now.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

  • 80GB Video iPod - Shuffling playlist?

    I have 2 iPods,
8GB nano shuffles tracks inside a playlist by default.
I'm still having trouble figuring out how to shuffle "playlist" on 80GB video iPod.
    Please help.
    <edited by host>

    Hello.
I have found a temporary work around the iPod playlists not recognizing videos. I too think this a really big problem. I just did not realize just how bit it was!
I use mine to pass thew time whil I workout at the Gym.
This is my temeporary soulution util apple fixes the problem.
I used a video editing software Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 because I am just descovering QuickTime.
I have copied my desired videos into the Adobe program.
I then export the one video made up of many videos using MPEG4.
I Then use the quick Time Player Pro to convert the MPEG4 video to iPod.
I then Sync my iPod to my computer.
I create the lenght of the video time I desire for my workout which is between 45 minutes to one hour.
    I have created various videos.
This is in no way as good as the playlist but it is certainly much better than the present sintuation.
PS: I hope Apple fixes this problem soon!
If anyone needs some help with this you can email me at [email protected]
    Thank you.

  • Video Ipod battery Life problems

Ok I JUST bought a 60gb video ipod with the warrenty.. now i did hear something about the initial charge on a ipod so i left it charging for about 6 hours... BUT whenever i goto charge it i never get a charging sign... i only get a do not disconnect sign, and my friend gets a charging sign on his nano, also after it was fully charged i started to watch a movie and i dont even think it lasted 3-4 hours can someone please tell me how to fix this or if i need to get it replaced...

Patience my friend! And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Anyway, sounds like your connecting your iPod to your computer.
Does your iPod show up in iTunes? If so, eject the iPod from iTunes and the Do Not Disconnect screen should go away.

  • 5.5 Gen Video Ipod rebooting when trying to play certain PodCasts.

    Hi,
After enjoying an Ipod Nano for a year and loving every minute, I went ahead and purchased the new 80GB Video iPod.
Its great but it has a tendency to reboot for no apparent reason when playing certain PodCasts. For example: Its impossible to play the Buzzcast episode: BuzzCast 09/27/06 - "Microsoft protects your ****". The Ipod shuts off and reboots every time. I'm using Itunes 7.0.1 and the Ipod is running the latest available firmware.
Can anyone else who also owns the new 80GB iPod download this particular episode and confirm?
By the way, I've also noticed that even though the iPod is connected / docked with iTunes and clearly visible in the panel to the left, The message "Waiting for iPod" is displayed when trying to re-sync a while later. The only way to get iTunes to make contact with the iPod again is to physically disconnect the cable and reconnect, (even though the iPod icon was still clearly visible to the left thus indicating already established contact with the iPod) Weird!
    Anyone else having this experience?
    Input appreciated.
    Kind regards / Alex

WHAT was apple thinking when they released iTunes 7.0 and firmware 1.2!? I installed in on my 60gb Video and the whole thing went to pot.
    1. It sounded horrible
    2. It would only allow me to download about 25% of my movies to the iPod (I have a large library and I take movies on and off depending on what I feel like for the trip I am taking.)
AppleCare Support was USELESS. Here is what I finally figured out to get the pod working right again:
    1. Uninstalled iTunes 7 from my computer (PC).
    2. Went into the registry editor and deleted all remaining references to iTunes.
    3. Restored the firmware to the version that came with the iPod last January.
    4. Used the 2006.06.28 firmware updater
    5. Installed iTunes 6.0.5
It works like a charm, just like it did before Apple "made things better."
AppleCare told me that they could not support songs ripped from my CD's, or any video that had not been purchased from iTunes. I am certain that the reason for this had nothing to do with their wanting a monopoly on music and video that will work on an iPod. Then he offered to report the problem I was having to their development team.
I asked him if other people were having problems with iTunes 7. He said the question was not relevant to my problems! I pressed him more for an answer and he continued to parrot what Apple has obviously told him to say. "My new 80gb Video is working fine. I have not had the problems you are having."
    DON'T UPGRADE TO ITUNES 7!!!!
I have ordered an 80gb since he said they work so flawlessly. Reading in this discussion, it appears that plenty of new 80gb users are frustrated too.
