Video Ipod to tv

Hey help me, Ok I have the correct cable w/video and audio to tv hooked up and all I get is wavy lines and a terrible sound coming out of my speakers. When I have just the audio hooked up without video, it works. I have the ipod settings set correctly. Has anyone else had this problem?

You are getting wavy lines when you try to play a video more than likely because the RCA plugs are not plugged into the right ports on the TV. For some reason, for many cords the colors DON'T match up with those on the TV. Try switching them around until you get a good signal.

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I have upgraded my Itunes to a Windows 8 Computer but now movies will not upload to my video ipod

Hi, Firstly thanks for clicking on to read this!!
I have been using an oldish computer for years for my Itunes, and having just purchased a Samsung touch screen computer with Windows 8 I have transfered all my Itunes over to the new computer.
All the music works fine and I have it all stored on a Passport usb drive to avoid 'clogging' up the new computer.
HOWEVER non of my videos or movies will now Sync to my video ipod. I just get the following message... "The videos were not copied to the ipod because they can not be played on this ipod".
I have already tried the following...
    1) Not using the Passport and importing it all on to the computer hard drive....... Same message comes up.
    2) Highlighting the TV shows and movies and going to file 'create ipod version' ... but this is greyed out and can not be selected.
I have tried re-downloading TV shows on the new computer however that will take AGES!!! (slow connection from Itunes when re-downloading ... 1 episode of bones takes about 4 hours and I have about 50 different series of various shows)... They did however sync to the ipod.
If I re-plug my ipod into the old computer and use my itunes though the passport again IT DOES WORK AND EVERY THING SYNCS!!!... thus I dont think the actual Ipod is faulty!!!!
Is this just an update that Apple are dragging their feet with (or not even bothering with).
Thanks for any advice or help you may be able to offer me.
    Andy

There's no reason that upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion would make this application work.  I've looked up Music PadPro.  I don't know much about it, but it looks pretty old.  Here are the requirements:
Macintosh G4 or higher processor running Mac OS X Version 10.2.6 (minimum),
Mac OS X Version 10.3.2 (recommended), or Mac OS X Version 10.4.2.
Looking at that, I would guess that the application would require a PowerPC processor.  After the release of the Intel machines back in 2006, Apple included something called Rosetta within OS X.  This allowed programs developed for the older architecture (PowerPC) to run on the newer Intel machines.  The reason for this was to give developers some time to upgrade their applications to run natively on Intel processors.  It was only with the introduction of Lion that Apple pulled Rosetta from their OS.  They had basically given developers about five years to upgrade their applications.  Unfortunately, in your case, the developer went belly up.  You can always install an older version of the OS on either a separate partition or an external drive and you can run your program from there.

  • Error 1418 on BRAND NEW Video ipod - Only 48 hours old!

    Hi,
Just upgraded from a click wheel ipod to a new 80GB video Ipod. Installed itunes 7.02 and everything worked fine. Last night got the message saying an update was avaliable for my ipod so I clicked update and since then I get the following messages
    1. The ipod could not be read from or written to.
    2. The ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored
    3. Unknown error - 1418
    I have tried
    1. 5r's
    2. Reformat through windows
The ipod now says it is corrupt and needs to be restored through itunes but itunes only returns the 1418 message.
I have googled this to death and there seems to be alot of issues with the new firmware. I am really annoyed as I havent even had chance to listen to my music yet and ive spent alot of money on it.
Any one have any ideas please, any other Video users had a similar problem after the firmware update?
    Thanks

The link works for me. However, here's the post.
iTunes7 & 5th gen iPod updating - is this possible solution? (winXP)

Downloaded iTunes 7 and you've gone through the 5 R's until your red in the face?
    * This probable solution 'stumbled upon' using a 60GB video. I have no idea if the process will work the same for nano. But if your desperate and have backed up your library... full steam ahead.
If you've noticed that your iPod does not show up in My Computer, but shows up in iTunes, and the new Update or Restore option within iTunes (Summary tab of a recognized iPod) doesn't work (choosing 'Update' gives you error 1417 and 'Restore' gives you error 1418 - whatever they mean) then give this a try:
    1. Restart your computer - just to make sure we're all on the same page
    2. Start up/Load iTunes
    3. Connect your iPod to your computer - it may take a little time for iTunes to connect to your device
    4. When the dialogue box pops up telling you that a new version of firmware (ver. 1.2) is available choose: INSTALL
    5. As iTunes shows you a progressive bar of 'installing' (the bar scrolls across again and again) use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option in your taskbar and stop "Apple iPod USB Device". The computer will then tell you that the device can now be removed
    6. "Installing" continues... plug in/connect iPod again. The "Install" continues like nothing's happened. Weird, huh?
    7. Apple logo and Update status bar should now appear on your dimmed iPod screen (because of no backlight)
    8. At this point, dialogue box pops up on computer to tell you that updating continues
    9. "Do Not Disconnect" symbol will then show on your iPod
    10. Process finishes after a time, and now the Summary tab says the iPod has been updated.
HA!!! If this is all that troubles you - HUZZAH! And I hope this helped.
Now that we've come this far... I've found that when I normally open iTunes and plug in my iPod to aunto-sync, I now get ERROR (-50) -> Mac needs to get a database online or something to tell me what these 'errors' mean so I don't freak out when I get one...
    1. Go BACK to the Summary tab or your recognized deive in iTunes. Now choose RESTORE. Make sure whatever is on your iPod can be replaced
    2. This part takes time
    3. Computer will pop with dialogue box saying that iPod is restored and being changed to factory settings
    4. Prompt then pops up for you to name your little iPod. At this stage you can choose to 'Auto-sync songs and vids when connected' or 'Auto-sync photos' and from which directory. It's up to you.
    5. iTunes will then thank you for registering your iPod. From this point, the files are copied to your device. Depending on how large your library is affects how long this process takes.

  • HELP!!! 30 GB Video Ipod  not recognized by 2 computers

I have 2 ipods. I has been unable to connect my 30 gb video Ipod to my laptop for a while. Today I installed a new 8gb ipod and it works just fine, even with the same cable, on my laptop. I tried all the "R" except general reset cause my other computer with i tunes and old songs is dead. Tried to connect my 30GB ipod in disk mode and nothing works, even on a 3erd computer running vista. Either Xp or Vista does not recognize my 30 gb ipod on standard or disk mode... no recognition at all. Just installed the other 8gb ipod today and it just works fine. I read almost all topics and find no answer, HELP!

Nevermind I was able to figure it out elsewhere.
iPode was showing in Device Manager under Other Device. I was able to select and install USB drier and it worked

any problems have been to me never having owned an ipod .
just thought i'd set the record straight for those who are thinking of getting a video ipod and already have vista .
you know , just fyi .
but i am wondering , how well does the ipod record notes ?
and anyone here in a band and tape their rehearsals ? was wondering how it sounds . thanks all !

after I watched them they dissappeared from my ipod,
Sounds like you have selected to only sync unwatched video content to your iPod.
This is a setting that you can change in your iTunes preferences.

  • 30G Video IPod and Windows Vista - Help!

I just recently bought a new computer equipped with Windows Vista. I have a 12" G4 iBook that was my main computer from which I ran my 30G Video iPod, and now I am wanting to sync my iPod with my new Windows computer, and this will be the only system I use with my iPod.
I realize there are many problems with compatibility of iTunes/iPods with Windows Vista.
My question is, barring the problems with iTunes, I downloaded the latest iTunes anyways and tried to use Yamipod to bring my 1600+ songs onto my computer from my iPod by bypassing iTunes. Problem is, my computer doesn't even recognize the iPod at all. iTunes does, but when I cancel the box asking me to reformat my iPod to Windows format and try to use Yamipod, Yamipod doesn't even recognize an iPod existing. I thought maybe it was just the program, so I tried about 4 others, but nothing. I also used the cd that came with my iPod and put the drivers onto this computer, but the actual computer still doesn't even recognize it plugged in.
Any ideas? Also, because a lot of my songs are in m4a format, how will that work if I am able to put them on this computer? Will I have to convert them all to mp3?
Thank you for any help you can give.

And given that Vista has been available in Release
candidate version for ages and that the release date
has been known for ages, shouldn't apple have made
the effort to make itunes compatible with Vista?
After all, the vast majority of itunes users live in
    Windows land.
perhaps you should familiarise yourself with the common usage and implications of the symbol string
but as you clearly aren't familiar with it, if i took your question seriously, which i don't, then the answer is no...
your argument is that being first and being in the majority rules
that'll be apple then won't it
    i) i can't be bothered to check the itunes release date, certainly it was out in 2001, which is several years before microsoft even figured out what to call the os formerly known as longhorn, let alone finished sawing off the pieces it couldn't make work
ii) the majority of people with portable music players use ipod/itunes, so it is for microsoft to conform with the majority and not make changes that impair the products used by the majority
so, by your own argument, it is microsoft's responsibility to maintain compatibility

  • Most recent version of iTunes does not recognize my video iPod, what to do?

I have a video iPod that I got last year and had it synced to my Windows XP on my desktop and I had recently synced it with my Macbook and had no problems with videos, pictures, movies, etc. I got a new iPod nano red and went to put music in it, but I had to download the latest version of iTunes. Just a few days ago I was able to still use both iPods on my MacBook. I just tried to put new videos on my video iPod and I get an error message saying: "the video was not copied, because this device does not support this file." I tried to authorize this computer, that didn't work. I tried converting the selected video, but I get an error(-50). I don't know what to do, any ideas? I appreciate anyone's help. THANKS!

Kevin .... I'm with you. I have the same problem. iTunes 9.0 / Windows 7 ... how we actually talk to someone at Apple to get a fix? I got a brand new $800 windows cpu ... that is a brick when it comes to iTunes. If anybody can help us, please let us know.

  • Video purchased from iTunes Music Store not compatible with my video iPod?

I purchased the White Stripes music video for "The Hardest Button to Button" from iTunes, but when I plug in my video iPod, it says it can't copy it over because it "can't be played" on my iPod. I don't understand what to do! All the other videos I've purchased from iTunes has copied/played fine...
Can someone please help me figure out what to do? Is it a bad video and I need to seek a replacement from Apple? I'm using iTunes 6.1, not the newest iPod updater (because of all the problems with it), video iPod, and Windows XP.
    Thanks!

I need help! I've followed some suggestions from people at the IGN forums, but nothing has worked so far. I'm in the process of waiting on a reply from Apple.
    Please help!

  • 5th generation video iPod USB not working

Hi, my 15 month old iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook (all my other USB devices work just fine in the two USB 2 ports).
The screen lights when iPod is plugged in and when unplugged using USB, but that appears to be the in toto communication performed.
I have performed the five Rs, and putting the iPod into disc mode yields the expected result on the screen of the iPod (tick and OK to disconnect) but no connection to the computer (yes, I have plugged/unplugged a number of times).
I have disconnected the battery (as another poster suggested) for several minutes and that does not seem to have helped in resetting the system.
It charges just fine via Firewire (either by a Firewire port on my iBook or by an Apple Firewire AC adaptor type charger), with absolutely no charging taking place when connected with USB (either by a USB 2 port on my iBook (G4 2004 model) or by an Apple USB AC adaptor type charger).
I have also tried three different USB cables, one old, two brand new Apple ones (all of which work just fine on my old 4th gen iPod, my daughter's 3rd gen iPod and my partner's two 4th gen iPods).
When I run the inbuilt diagnostics on the iPod, all of them come back as ok, including USB, both as charging and communication, so, in theory, everything should be ok, but most patently isn't.
I have tried to use the iPod on a Windows 2000 computer and an older iMac (both of which otherwise work fine with other iPods either using USB and Firewire) with nil recognition by any.
I've looked in the wide dock connection plug at the bottom of the iPod as another poster said that the connection pins might be bent, however, I can't see any actual pins, just a wide tongue in the middle, the same as on my other older iPod. Or do I need to open up the iPod and look for something in there?
Judging by the nr of comments and questions on similar issues here with the 5th generation video iPod, there should be a definitive fix for this problem, although, after looking through as much of the forums that might relate to this problem, no one seems to have come up with an explanation, let alone a solution for it.
So, my question remains, my iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook, has anyone else (taking into account the above information), either had/have this problem and or found a resolution to it?
    Cheers, Peter
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   5th generation video iPod

Dear deggie, hi, thanks for the tip as to what I should be looking for in the slot. However, sadly, it all looks to be fine (well, at least the same as my other iPod).
HR, thanks for the tip re opening the iPod, unfortunately, it is 15 months old, so well past the 12 month warranty expiry (ridiculous, isn't it?).
Here in Australia, we don't have access to Genius Bars and Apple Stores, just the local distributors, and they want $210 to repair/replace the iPod, which, frankly I find a bit rich, considering that it hasn't been mistreated in any way and the other iPod I have has been running fine for more than two years.
I get the feeling, judging by the many complaints on these forums regarding the problems that the gen 5 iPod being recognised and connecting to both Mac and Windows, that this cannot just be purely user error or maltreatment. However, I'm unsure as to what can be done to resolve them or get Apple to admit to there being a problem.
One of the things that confuses me, is that all the internal diagnostics (menu + select then select + back) including USB communication, all come back fine, when, as mentioned in an above post, it most patently is not. Anyone have any clues as to what this might be due to?
If, by some bizarre fluke, I manage to find a resolution to this problem (short of going and paying Apple $210), I'll post back here with it.
Again, thanks for the help, cheers, Peter

  • Error message when connecting 80GB Video iPod

I'm getting this error message when trying to connect my 80GB Video iPod:
"The iPod (name) cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)."
    Never seen this one before.
I haven't synced this iPod for a few weeks but it always behaved fine before, taking a few seconds to appear in iTunes (v7.5) then syncing perfectly when I hit the Sync button (I have it set to manually sync only because sometimes I want to change the contents or only sync music).
Before syncing on this occasion, I did an iPod software update via iTunes - iTunes said there was a newer version (1.2.3). After the update, I disconnected the iPod for a few minutes (somehting I wanted to check content before syncing), then reconnected it. At first iPod took about a minute to show up in iTunes - way too long. I Reset the iPod and tried again but still LONG delay to appear in iTunes (again about 1 minute). I did another Reset - same result. Then I did a complete Restore, after which syncing to restore the contents gave problems - it refused to finish the sync. I had to disconnect and start again, syncing the data one section per sync session - Contacts, music, videos, iCal - which seemed to work fine. Then I disconnected, waited a few minutes then reconnected the iPod to check. It wouldn't connect at all. Did a Reset, tried o connect again and it did connect but then proceeded to resync all my contacts taking almost 30 minutes (way too long) to do so (I had made NO changes in Address Book since that data was put in there). I tried to reconnect again but then got the error message (above). Did another total Restore and the same shenannigans happened. Now, I have an iPod with data on it and works fine, but iTunes won't recognise it - just gives this error message every time.
By the way, my 8GB Nano (software 1.1.3) seems to sync fine on the same system, same computer.
Could this be the 1.2.3 iPod software giving issues? I appreciate any help because I also use this iPod for recording for my work, which getting a little urgent now.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

  • Video ipod not recognized by windows at all

My new video ipod suddenly cannot be recognized by Windows. I'm not really sure what happened - one day I was able to plug it in and have iTunes automatically start and sync, and now whenever I plug it in I just get the message "do not disconnect." Also, the iPod is not recognized by Windows - doesn't even show up in "My Computer," though it does show up in "Device Manager" and in the "Safely Remove Hardware" dialogue.
What could be wrong? I already uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and reinstalled them, to no luck. I also installed the new iPod system software 1.3 but also no luck. Finally, I uninstalled all of my USB ports and forced Windows to reinstall them, but that didn't work either. The first time I put in the iPod after that I got a dialogue box that it had recongized the new hardware and was installing the iPod, but nothing ever came of it.
However, both iTunes and my video iPod are fully functional, and I have taken VERY good card of the video iPod.
Any idea what could be wrong???

I tried it, setting it to E. It didn't work. Tried the same thing after setting it to disk mode and it didn't work. Just the same old BS about "Do not disconnect," but it isn't recongized anywhere on the system except for Device Manager and the Disk Management tool you mentioned. No acknowledgement from iTunes or in My Computer. Meanwhile both iTunes and my iPod work fine, but they can't communicate with each other.
I AM GOING INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have tried every trick in the book that I could possibly think of. Not only did I uninstall and reinstall iTunes, QuickTime and the iPod helper, but after I uninstalled them I COMPLETELY nuked them, eliminating every file and clearing extraneous references out of the registry. Then I reinstalled from the CD going by the instructions by the letter. I thought for sure it would work now but for some ridiculous reason it doesn't.
I am completely at my wits' end.................. What the heck can I do???
PS: I also have Linux installed in a secondary extended partition, which is on my hard drive but not counted as C. Not sure if that makes any difference.
