VIDEO IS HORRIBLE

I'm not sure if this is a problem with my iDVD program but the video on my burned DVD breaks up when there's movement of my subjects. I edit on FCP and shoot with a Canon GL2. The FCP file a make seems fine but the lines break up really bad on the TV when I play the burned DVD. Anyone have an idea where this problem begins and of course, how I can fix it??? Thanks

There are so many things that affects the DVD quality:
• What You send to iDVD. I do in FCP save as QuickTime.mov NOT selfcontaining to desktop.
• How much space iDVD has to work with. I set as minimum 25Gb free space on internal (start-up)
hard disk. iDVD and Mac OS CAN'T use any other scratch disk ! Important.
• I use an as slow burn speed as possibly eg x1. This can be set in iDVD'08 but not in the previous
versions so one must. Make a DiskImage and burn this with Apple Disk Util tool or Roxio Toast™.
• I use Pro-encoding quality in iDVD'08 or Best performances in previous versions. Best Quality - isn't so.
My opinion.
• Brand of disk. I use only Verbatim. There are other high quality brands. (I can only relate to what
I rely on)
• Kind of DVD disks. I use only DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)

Help with exporting. Video looks horrible after export, but great when in premiere pro

Hey guys, looking for some advice on exporting.
When I finish a video, the color and everything looks great while in premiere pro, but after exporting it, the color ends up looking dull and the whole video looks blurry. I'm filming with a canon vixia hf200 at 60i. It imports as a AVCHD file, I deinterlace it, and then export at the Vimeo HD settings. What can be causing the video to look horrible after exporting? What settings should I be exporting under? Any help would be appreciated!

It looks like you're coming up against some of the colorspace handling issues that the Premiere pipeline has.
Since your source is 60i AVCHD it's HD and thus rec709 colorspace. If it gets encoded with the standard rec601 colorspace (SD sizes are this) then all the colors get crushed. Look for a "709" and "601" radio button in your export settings. If it's not there you're out of luck.
The "blurry" is probably a poor quality de-interlacer. If Vimeo permits interlaced vs progressive do that instead. it's always cleaner to stay in the same video format all the way through.
TECHNICAL ASIDE:
rec709 is a triangle of possible colors that can be expressed by mixing of ratios of 3 emitters (the R G B corners of the triangle). (they are the RGB phosphors of a CRT and now LCD pixel elements)
rec709 is a bigger triangle than rec601 so it's capable of more colors. but if you accidently map that triangle's corners to the coordinates of rec601 it gets crushed.
In photography the "sRGB" uses the rec709 triangle. A bigger triangle that that is "Adobe RGB". So if you work in Adobe RGB and export to sRGB without conversion the colors get crushed because sRGB in inside the triangle of "Adobe RGB".

Video looks horrible

Ok, Thi is my 1st time using FC: Express and had a question. I would like to know how I can keep the original quality video I am done editing it in FC. Ususally when I am done and export it, the quality looks horrible.
The original file I had was an RAW version from a FRAPs I did, about 20gigs. From there I encoded the video with divx from vdubb and shrank it to about 375mbs The quality is still crystal clear at this point at 1576x986 resolution.
I create opening and cloasing credits from Live Type and input everything into FC, add music and then create my file. however like I said when the file is create it looks like crap.
Any help would be great

How to re install itunes 6.0, itunes 7.0 playback of videos is horrible

I updated to itunes 7, only to find out that it requires 500 mghz.. of which i only have 450 mghz.. so the videos are delayed and horrible. now i am trying to install itunes 6.0.. but i can only find itunes 6.05 which is an update. they want me to pay for itunes 6.0, which i don't want to do. any suggestions? websites, links, etc..?
the weird thing is when I tried to download a tv show, it told me I had to update to itunes 7? Is this really the case or can I continue using itunes 6? This is why I am hesitant to pay for it.

Open ./Library/Receipts and remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' and 'iTunesX 6.0.4.pkg' files.
You should now be able to re-install iTunes 6.0.4.

IPhone 5 Youtube videos have horrible quality even on fast wifi/LTE.

For awhile now I have been watching videos on youtube (and pretty much any other video platform) and have been noticing that occasionally I get HORRIBLE quality. The screen gets blurry, sound quality goes way down. Even if I am connected to home wifi (I have great wifi) it still goes blurry to the point where I would rather just do on the computer. On LTE and 3G I guess it was acceptable but wifi was the kicker. My iPod Touch 4g can have better video playback than my iPhone 5. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am running on 6.0.2.

That's probably simply due to the mobile device version of the video that you are watching just being horrible.
As always, an example link of a video that you are talking about would help.

Video quality HORRIBLE?

I have downloaded and watched TV shows on my ibook but now that I am using my PC, the video and audio is so choppy I can't even watch it. My PC has a very large hard drive as well as lots of memory and a great graphics card. Why won't the iTunes videos play though?

The videos are low quality because they are meant to be played on your 5g ipod, i've bought several music videos and free stuff and they are all like this. I also have the latest version of itunes and all the reqiured codecs and such, and my pc exceeds the minimum req.

QUALITY - .MOVs to Encore, but video quality horrible -- DVD

I am a newbie to Encore and video processing, alike - I'm hoping that someone can enlighten me in the ways of High Definition/working with conversion to DVD in Encore.
I'm currently working on making a DVD with a main menu which links to a main feature, Previews, Contact screen and chapters. All of the items for these categories were originally .SWFs and have been converted to .MOVs (using the Moyea SWF to Video pluggin). Not sure if that makes a difference, but the DVD has been completed without any problems, works well in the preview, comes out in the specified 16:9 ratio and links properly. Here is where I feel like I'm walking around in smoke: I would like to build to DVD so that it can be viewed on the Computer as well as TV. But I really want High grade quality video. It seems to me that their was a slight loss of quality from .Swf to .MOV, so I've tried experimenting with everything from the Encore Settings, reading numerous posts on this site and using different conversion formats (MOV, AVI and VOB). I loved the quality when I took the .SWFs to .VOB (however Encore still transcoded and in the end I lost the amazing clarity). After building, when I play the DVD on the computer the quality is a bit hazey (even exchanging the .VOBs for .MOVs.) As of now, my setting are as follows:
PROJECT TRANSCODE PRESETS:
MPEG2-DVD
High quality, VBR transcoding for progressive-frame content (max bit rate =9)
25 fps (the .swfs were built at 24 fps - does this matter?)
quality 5.0
192 kbps, 48kHz, Dolby Digital

Right now, I'm so determined to get the best quality - So, I've begun exporting the entire Encore project to .SWF to see if this will do the trick. In the meantime, how can I build to DVD with the highest quality possible?

This is correct, the .swf/.flv files are so compressed that you will only retain the quality of the origional file at best. I've tried this for months and about a Terabyte of files and have found only 1 way to get a good quality DVD from an .flv/.swf.
Connect 1 computer to a TV to play the .swf/.flv. Connect the out connector from the TV to another computer with Premiere installed via the graphics card and then capture the video as it is playing in premiere in the highest quality you can. This can make 30 minutes of compressed .swf into a 10+GB DVD video file. Then after capture, edit and send/export to Encore, make your DVD and then encode like normal.
This has been the highest quality DVD from .swf/.flv that I have been able to achieve.

Video quality horrible when inserted into slide and downsized!

My original Captivate video screencapture is 1,000 x 700 px (it has to be this large to capture the entire screen)
My slide is 780 x 633 (so it can fit on all browsers).
When I insert the video into the slide and downsize it to fit, the text of the image becomes illegible.
In the end, I need a high quality, legible video playback exported to HTML that either scales according to the end-users browser, or can be downsized to a size that both fits and retains quality. So far, I cannot get this to happen.
What is the best way to do this? though I have searched and searched, I cannot find any discussion around this. Any tips would be great. I am using C5.

Hi there
Sorry, but you are seeing first hand one of the foundational elements of recording with Captivate. You always want to do as much as you possibly can to ensure you record at the same size you intend to play back. That way there is no loss of clarity.
So assuming your Captivate movie will ultimately be sized at 780 x 633, you need to record at a size that matches that. Note that this should also factor in the playback control set you are using. Sometimes those add an additional 30 pixels or so.
The issue is that usually you are dealing with bitmapped (raster) images. And when you choose to play back at a smaller size, you are "squishing" the area and the quality goes to a very hot and bad place in something resembling a basket.
So if you can, record the screens at a smaller size to start with.
If you can't avoid this and you have to record at full size, you need to think about how you wish to handle this. One way is to record at your destination size and use the Panning feature of Captivate to move the recording area around. Or, you could just focus on different quadrants of the screen. Your call.

ITunes video lagging horribly

I've been having this problem for awhile now: Whenever I try and play a video in iTunes - be it movie, TV show, music video, or video podcast - the video lags. The audio often works just fine, but the video is choppy, as if I'm watching a slideshow or a series of pictures rather than a video. Video works fine on the internet, and in the majority of my video players, it does as well. Please note that I am only trying to play iTunes bought videos in iTunes - the videos have not been tampered with in any way, so there should not be a problem there.
I am using a Windows XP Pentium 4 CPU, 1.50GHz. I have 512 MB of RAM on the computer. It is not a new computer by any means, but it is also not terribly old. I have had this problem with several other videos in unrelated video players, but that is due to a codec issue that refuses to be solved. Besides that, other videos work fine. It is only iTunes videos that are not playing.
Someone please help me figure out what's doing this or how I can fix it. Or if I can fix it, if it comes down to that, because this is getting seriously annoying.

Just updated iTunes to most recent version. Now I'm getting jerky video playback in BOTH iTunes and QT Pro (latest version). CPU use is very high but random; ditto with video playback (i.e., doesn't hang up on the same scene/time).
I had this issue a little over a year ago after updating iTunes to the then latest version. Got nowhere with Apple's "Service" texts. I played around with configs for a while and also re-installed iTunes. It has worked fine until yesterday (same symptoms as last time). As for the past "fix": nothing I can hang a hat on. Methinks Apple updated the version I re-installed with (tho' the version # was unchanged).

Video Looks Horrible after Render?

I am working in a HDV 60i timeline with a mix of 60i and 30f codecs. The video looks great until I render. Once the video is rendered it gets really pixelated and ugly. I usually just export without rendering but when I tried it with this video it took about 15 hours and the final result looked exactly like it does after I render. I checked the render settings and they all looked they they are set to the highest quality. When I dump my render files in the timeline the video goes back to looking good? What the heck?!! Please help!!!! I am using FCP 6.06 Thanks.

So that is what is weird. The long export looks great now, (after exporting the smaller pieces, and then bringing the smaller pieces back and exporting the long one) The video looks great, plays great in both quicktime and final cut pro. The file doesn't appear to be corrupted...But after 4 different attempts at compressing to Mpeg2,(on different computers) the video crashes while in compressor. This is the error I am getting. 3x Crash Down. Sorry I kind of combined by two problems, but the problems were essentially the same. This is my normal workflow I use all the time. I have heard your not supposed to use HDV and change to Apple Pro Res, but the HDV workflow works 98% of the time. I tried a couple different settings with the Apple Pro Res, but it seems degrade the image quality quite a bit. I am about to try the Adobe Media Encoder.

Video Playback in Bridge preview Window is Horrible

As far as I can remember, I've always had this problem in Bridge. All videos have horrible playback. The video is choppy and stutters and the audio is not in sync. It doesn't matter what format the video is in, although I have noticed that videos shot with my Canon AVCHD and converted to .mp4 format are worse. But overall there is no video format I've tried that does not stutter. All these videos play fine in Quicktime or any other video player.
I have CS5 design suite and a brand new 6-core Mac Pro, with 24GB of RAM and a ATI Radeon 5770, the problem is definitely not my system. What gives? I'd really like to get this fixed so I can preview my videos in Bridge. Its the easiest place to view multiple videos but I cant do that because of how bad the playback is. I've tried changing the few playback settings in preferences and it did not help at all.
Anyone else have this problem?

I am not a Mac user, I use Windows, however, Bridge is Bridge no matter what the OS.
It is my understanding that Bridge does not have a video engine. It uses Quicktime as the default. If you right click on the video what default program is listed? Try changing the default program and see if you get better results. My .mov video has Windows Media Player as the default and they play just fine. I realize this is a Windows program, but try VLC or some other program. With your machine you should get supurb results. Also, check the video card settings as this has more to do with playback than Bridge settings.
Here is a tidbit on the black frame issue I copied from another thread. Hope it is enlightning. "One of the reasons for the lack of display of a thumbnails is that the CODEC (the encoding/decoding module, used to create the file) is not usable by Adobe programs to display the initial image. Next, many AV files begin with black video, and Dip-to-Black (translated as Fade-from-Black here). If they get just an icon, it's the former. If they get a black Frame for the thumbnail, it's the latter."
Also, I don't think you can just rename the extension from .mov to .mpg. What you can do is take the .mov and convet it to mpg or some other format. Try this and see how it plays.

Choppy video in Program Montior

I recently started recording in AVCHD and when I import the video into Premiere Pro I can open the file it it's own monitor and it plays fine. I can set my In and Outs, etc. However, when I add it to the timeline and play the entire timeline back in the Program Monitor, the video is horribly choppy. This is a brand new camcorder and when I had previously (on the same machine setup) used non-HD, avi from a MiniDV tape, it played fine.
Is it because the high quality format I record in? Why then, would it play fine after imported but not in the timeline?

Playback of AVCHD material is heavily dependent on your CPU - much more so that most formats/CODEC's.
That Rendering helped, is a good sign, and will likely get you adequate playback. Remember that you can limit the Render (and time), with WAB (Work Area Bar), if you do not need the best playback for the entire Timeline.
Maybe let us know a bit about your computer. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on what info would be helpful.

Ipod Nano video recorder and Windows?

Hello all, just want to say I LOVE my new Ipod (haven't had one since the first gen nano)
I was just curious, what would be the best way to open the videos in say Sony Vegas or Windows Movie maker? I tried a converter last night and the video was horribly compressed/muddy looking. Are there specific codecs I need to use?
I'm running Vista, but I also have an old iMac G3 (with an orange case) which is too slow to edit video. Any help would be great

I have a new ipod nano and can not download iTunes to Winnows Vista.

Just bought the best mac mini, but Netflix looks horrible.. Why?

I bought a mac mini 2.6 ghz, late 2012. I'm using it on a Samsung 40 in smart tv with an HDMI cable. When I get on netflix the videos look horrible, and I'm wondering if there's something I can do to fix the quality of video (other than downloading sliverlight and placing the quality to high on netflix). Sorry for the confusion, I meant that I had already done those things and am wondering if there's anything else I can do. I think I solved the problem, though. The quality is just taking a little longer than my last mac to buffer into HD video.
I'm also wondering if I should just use the HDMI adapter that came with the mac mini, things like brightness control and volume control can no longer be controled straight from the keyboard because it assumes I'm not lazy and will grab the controller! Also, web pages and just the overall all look is a bit distoreted because it's trying to push it to 40in..I guess.

Front row video

i dont know what it is.. but front row is VERY slow when i wanna play videos (even mpeg4 and h264 videos) i tried to install divx, but it isnt getting better.. everytime i start front row and choose videos its horrible, i have to wait for 2 minutes, then my videos are listed, when i wanna go back it takes me nearly 5 minutes, i dont know how to close front row manually. any ideas to get this thing faster?
tomorrow ill get my memory, maybe it will get faster..

i think it is the latest version of front row, there is no update available on the update service of macosx..
i dont have ANY things in my itunes database
the movie folder konsists of 6 files à 300mb
but i think MOVIES, are much bigger than that.. so it shoul handle it..
why the **** sells apple computers with only 512mb of ram? seems so tiny!
