Video is sqeezed horizontally (or stretched vertically)

I plugged my DV camcorder in and was recording new video via QuickTime Pro. For some reason, it distorts the video. Is there a setting I've missed or screwed up? It makes my face and other stuff taller and thinner than they really are.

It makes my face and other stuff taller and thinner than they really are.Either change your camcorder setting from "widescreen" to "4:3" aspect ratio and re-record or use QT Pro "Properties" window to change the default "4:3" aspect ratio to a "widescreen" aspect ratio by manually entering the appropriate "Scaled Size" settings with "Preserve Aspect Ration" setting turned off.
The QT Pro "Recording" option is rudimentary at best. It does not currently have import settings to switch between "4:3" and "widescreen" aspect ratios manually nor the sophistication to do so automatically. It "assumes" the input is 720x480 (640x480) because that is the storage matrix used by both formats. If you don't wish to record in "4:3" or manually adjust "widescreen" clips, then use iMovie, FCE, FCP, Vidi, etc. for you capture.

  • 16:9 video, but looks stretched  vertically

    I am making a dvd in dvdstudio pro. My movie clips are edited in iMovie (16:9) and my menus are made in Photoshop with a preset (16:9).
    The problem is, when i burn the dvd and put it into my dvd player that is hooked up to my tv, the picture fills up the whole screen and the menus and video looks stretched vertically. It doesn't look like 16:9. And there are no black horizontal "free areas" either as there usually is when it is 16:9. I have chosen my menus and video to be 16:9 in dvd studio pro. When i press simulate though, it first appears in 4:3, and when i change it to 16:9 it looks like it should.
    What am i doing wrong? I want it to look better on my tv!

    I have set all tracks and menus to 16:9 letterbox in the inspector.
    When I play hollywood movies I see letterboxing on both a widescreen tv and a 4:3 tv.
    When I built my DVD to my harddrive and opened it in Apples DVD player, it looks rectangle, but the height of the rectangle seemed to be too high. I have a 22" widescreen tft-monitor and the black horizontal stripes from the letterboxing are only about an inch tall in fullscreen. If i play a hollywood movie, the "black stripes" are much bigger, about twice as big. This is what I want my movie to look like.
    I have checked the dvd-player and TVs settings but there seemed to be nothing wrong. I mean, the hollywood movies look great. Why doesn't mine?
    How do I get my DVD to have these black stripes from the letterboxing effect?
    Heres a picture on my 22" widescreen.

  • Video from MacBook Air camera looks stretched vertically. How can I change this?

    I just got a MacBook Air and it looks like whenever I use the camera for video chat or webcam, the results are really stretched vertically. This is driving me nuts since I have to be on client video calls and I look really silly.
    How do I fix this??

    The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to  exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different.

  • Aspect ratio problem (stretched vertically)

    I have a DVD that was apparently converted from 16:9 to 4:3 by stretching vertically. Is there any way I can squeeze it back down to 16:9 and include black strips on top and bottom? As I recall, iMovie offers a choice for the aspect ratio. So I'm hoping this might be a reasonable place to pose the question. What I have in mind is to import the footage from the DVD into iMovie. I'm hoping that I will then be able to squeeze it back down in the vertical direction and restore it back to the proper aspect ratio.

    A 4:3 DVD has the same number of pixels as a 16:9 DVD. There is a flag on the DVD that tells the TV how much to stretch the pixels horizontally. There are never any black bars on the DVD per se.
    Playing a 4:3 DVD on a widescreen (16:9) TV, black bars are placed left and right by the DVD Player.
    Playing a widescreen (16:9) DVD on a 4:3 TV, black bars are placed top and bottom by the DVD Player.
    It seems as someone rendered your DVD with the black bars imposed on the image on the DVD, which is not the proper way. There isn't anything you can do about that: You can't get back the pixels lost in the process.

  • Spry horizontal menu becomes vertical menu

    In IE my spry horizontal menu becomes vertical but is
    stretched to the same width as the horizontal menu is suppose to
    be? Any ideas?

    If horizontal is turning vertical, I have a feeling what is happening is that when you publish it, it's not connected to any style sheet -- or you have the style sheets in the wrong order.
    Remember, with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) the last stylesheet trumps the earlier one. That's perfectly OK if there are no conflicts, but there may be some that can cause problems.
    Thus, you'd be looking for:
    <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    <link href="navigation.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    If navigation.css is first, styles.css may be rewriting your styles for your spry navigation.
    Now, I'm going to throw you a curve. Spry has been discontinued and it "going away." I recommend you learn how to make your own navigation and Spry is usually used for drop-down navigation. You can do that in straight HTML and CSS.
    Take a look at my last reply in this forum discussion for a bunch of pretty cool "do it yourself" navigation tutorials.

  • Spry menubar submenu horizontal instead of vertical

    I have spent two days trying to figure out why the submenu on my spry menubar goes horizontal instead of vertical.  I have watched youtube videos and all the tutorials automatically have them going vertical under each other.  My submenu bar goes left to right and i dont want that.  I have tried several changes with the code in CSS and the HTML and I can move the main menubar and the submenu all over the screen, just cant get it do drop down under each other.  Help please!!

    Have a look here for auto widths http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/menubar/AutoWidthHorizontalMenuBarSample.h tml.
    The only change I would make to the above is to add !important to the following
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li {
        display: block;
        float: none !important;
        width: auto;
        white-space: nowrap;
        border-bottom: solid 1px #EEE;

  • OBIEE 11g Radio Button Value show horizontally instead of vertically

    Hi,
    Can the Radio Buttons Prompt values in OBIEE 11g be shown horizontally instead of vertically on a dashboard prompt.
    Thanks

    I cannot find it in the out of the box functionality. I think it might be possible with some custom programming which I do not have time to investigate.
    If somebody has done this, please let us know if it is possible.

  • Horizontal vs. Vertical Scrolling

    I just picked up a new iMac and it came with OS 10.9 and a Magic Mouse.  I've used a Logitech 8-Button USB mouse so I could have one button double-click, another CMD-W etc...  It was great while I had Snow Leopard.
    Now with Mavericks I can see the benefit to using the Magic Mouse for controlling the full screen apps.  The problem is the "Natural Scrolling" is anything but natural.  Swipe left, things move right.  swipe down, things move up.  This is just wrong.
    Turning off the "Natural Scrolling" option only corrects one of these issues at a time.  If it's on, one goes the right direction, when it's off, the other does.  Is there any way to controll the "Natural Scrolling" option for Horizontal separately from Vertical?

    These things are possible in Captivate using Infosemantics Slider Component widgets, but the widgets are not currently compatible with HTML5 output.

  • Display the output in horizontally insted of vertical as per date

    hi
    experts
    display the output in horizontally insted of vertical as per date.
    Date :    From ..........  To  .............
    work center         yeild to confrorm                                    date
    W1                         288                                               1.4.2009
                                  256                                                3.4.2009
    Eg
    workcenter    date :   01.04.2009      2.04.2009    3.04.2009    4.04.2009  .......................
      W1                           288                                 256
        w2                           234                345                               345

    Hi,
    Incase you have to display this in an ALV; then your internal table will be dynamic.
    Your internal table will consists of following fields
    Work Centre
    Date1
    Date2
    DateN
    The date columns will not be of type d but rather character as in this columns you have to store the workcentres in them.
    Create your dynamic internal table using the class CL_ALV_TABLE_CREATE and method CREATE_DYNAMIC_TABLE.
    You will have to create a fieldcatalog table and pass to the method.
    Then use the dynamic internal table created to store your data horizintally against each date column.
    Display the output in an ALV.
    Pass the date values as the description for each date column in the ALV.
    I hope you get the concept.

    I can't find anything about how to properly manage the tablet's layout in horizontal or in vertical position.
    If I consult my website in vertical position, it's ok but, If I turn my tablet, all the hyperlinks and all general visualization are wrong.
    How I can properly handle both views?
    PS: I'm sorry for my bad english

    Could you share the site URL so we may check at our end? Also could you share some screenshots explaining the 'wrong hyperlinks and visualization'.

  • Aurora 30.0a2 toolbar and icons are stretched vertically and out-of-proportion, how to fix this?

    In the latest update changes Aurora 30.0a2, the UI shows the toolbar as stretched vertically. all the icons appear to be about (+/-) 1 to 1.5. This is no major issue and really just a minor visual nuisance but is a bug nonetheless.

    Only the toolbar is affected, all other areas retain their 1 to 1 ratios.

  • Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical

    Hello Adobe,
    Bridge implements rotate 90 cw, 90 ccw, and 180. Having these functions available as a right-click / cmd-click context menu is extremely convenient.
    However, what about the companion flip horizontal and flip vertical operations ? This is a very common thing to want to do - particularly when working with scanned transparency images. Adobe Lightroom implements this - I belive.
    Bridge team, can you add this small feature please ?
    Sincerely,
    Craig Hansen-Sturm

    You can do multiple photo flips in Develop if you turn AutoSync on.  Just make sure to turn it back off as it can cause all kinds of accidental messes

  • Compressed Web movie looks stretched vertically instead of 16:9, HELP!

    Hi guys, I shot some footage with Canon XL2, 16:9, 24pa.
    After editing I put it in compressor 3 to make a quicktime 7 H.264 web streaming movie,
    with frame size 720x480,
    but the movie is stretched vertically.
    Can anyone help me with the settings to keep it 16:9.
    Thanks
    Zia

    Just set the frame size to a Custom (16:9) aspect ratio in Compressor, and the pixel aspect ratio to Square. You find those settings in the Inspector window, under the Geometry tab.
    Calculating the aspect ratio manually is pretty easy too, but when using Compressor, you can just let Compressor do the job.
    Width / 16 * 9 = Height
    I would recommend implementing frame controls in your workflow too. Have a look at this post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7309534#7309534
