Video Kind - Batch change?

I imported ~50 movies into iTunes, but they went into "Movies" instead of "TV Shows". I am able to change them by going to Get Info > Options, and changing it in there, but that only works with one at a time. Is there a way to change the video kind when I have multiple videos selected?
thanks.

try atomic parsley at this location. It edits the MPEG-4 tags directly and allows exactly the kind of thing you want.
There is a GIU'd version that front ends it here. There is also a batched GUI'd version here.
Hope that solves your prob. Unfortunate that the genre tag isnt the one used by iTunes to sort out things like podcasts and iPod videos etc.

  • ITunes cannot change video kind for multiple files

i put many video files to library, and then i want to change each video kind into music video, but unfortunately i can't find an easy to change those files at once.
i have to change them one by one.
my question is: is it possible to change "video kind" of many files at itunes library at once? how?
    thx

No, it's not possible to batch-edit the fields on the Video tab. This seems like an outright oversight and will probably be corrected in a future version soon. What's worse, after you take the time to change the Video settings on your files one at a time, iTunes won't bother saving all the changes in the file itself. The Video Kind setting will change to the default "Movie" when the file is removed and added back to the library. For instance, all the "TV Show" files you back up to disk become "Movie" when added back to the library later. You have to edit the Video tab one by one again! It's maddening.

  • Changing TV Show to Music Video in Video Kind:

    Hey all,
In Video Kind when you get info on a video under the Video tab, there is a drop down menu where you can change the type of video. I want to change a TV Show to Music Video, but the drop down is not allowing me to, it is grayed out. I am assuming there is a way to do it, since it's there. So, if anyone out there in MacLand could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
    Thanks,
    Bernie

When you buy a video from iTunes, it will be in "Protected MPEG-4 video file" format. Since it is "protected", you can't reformat it.
For tracks, you can convert them to unprotected MP3 format by burning them to an audio CD, then ripping them back to iTunes. However, It is not the same for videos. When I burned my TV-Shows to video DVD, and ripped them back to iTunes, the protected format does not change.
If I find anything special program that can convert the videos into non-protected format so that you can edit them, I'll let you now ASAP

  • Changing "Video Kind" to TV Show?

So after manually changing each of my 450+ music video files to "Music Video" under "Video Kind:" (why on earth can't this come up under Edit Multiple Item Info?), my next project is to add my TV shows to iTunes.
However, I cannot find a way to change the video type to "TV Show". The options are only "Movie" and "Music Video", neither of which will make a video file appear when TV Shows is selected in the Video playlist.
Is there a way to do this?

It is bad that you do not have TV Shows as a selection for the Video Kind for imported videos (not bought from iTunes). Something similar is probably causing an audio book that I got from somewhere besides iTunes to show up under Music in the search bar and not under Audiobooks.
The only work around I have been using when using the browser mode in videos is to make sure that I select show Genre when browsing and make my own video Genres (into more like Video Kinds) and leave videos "clicked" on All and then just select TV Show or Movie or whatever from the Genre if I want to narrow down my selection.
It helps but as I add more things to iTunes I would rather use Genre to further narrow down the selection I made in the search bar like click on "TV Shows" in search bar then comedy in genre or click on "All" in search bar and then comedy under genre to show all comedies regardless of being a movie, music video, podcast, or TV show. If all of my library had been purchased through iTunes it would work, but until Apple gives non-iTunes store videos all the selections under Video Kind (get info then under options) that are used in the search bar it is limiting.

  • How do you Batch change TV Shows/Movies/Music Videos?

    Hi,
I have a bunch of short films in my iTunes library that I want to change to TV Shows, the only way i have found that I can do this is going one by one and changing them. My question is whether or not there is a 3rd party applescript of application that allows me to batch change these video files, within or outside of iTunes.
    Thanks for the help!
    Gabe

    Thanks Meg,
the script can be found at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts01.php?page=1#setvideokindofselecte d
I have yet to try lostify, but seems promising, thanks for the help!

  • How do you change multiple 'Video Kind' values at once?

    Hello,
first of all, sorry if this has already been asked, but I tried searching for a straight answer in here and in other forums without any luck..
.. but I was wondering if there is a way to select multiple videos, and change their video kind to something else, all at once(eg. from Movie to Music Video)...
...When I select a group of videos and click get info, it doesn't give me the option to change the video kind, so I've had to change each one, one at a time, (which gets very tiresome :P)...
...so is there a way to change multiple 'Video Kind' values at once, or should I pray that it becomes available in the next update of iTunes?
Pentium 4 3.0 ghz Windows XP

You can't do it right now. Wait for the next update, and hope it's there.
For the moment, I suggest selecting Get Info on one song, changing the setting, then hitting the next button at the bottom to go right to the Get Info for the next song. You can rapidly change lots of these that way.

  • Need to change "Video Kind"

    Hi everyone,
after installed iTunes 7, there are 2 music video left in the Movie library.
I have tried to change in the "get info" menu the "video kind" but it is disabled.
Is there a way to move them in the "Music Video" playlist?
I have bought them on the iTunes Store.
    Thanks in advance to everyone.

    Thanks for your reply!
The file was downloaded with iTunes 7, i've just bought a Macbook a few weeks ago and i'm playing around with some of the features!
I've double checked the info on the music video and it is tagged as a music video but it still won't play in Front Row, it says I have no videos in my iTunes library!
My video podcast that I got from iTunes Store is tagged as movie and also won't play in front row but i'm unable to change that either!!
It seems strange that the iTunes Store didn't tag the
files correctly - were these files downloaded before
    iTunes 7?
Not sure how it will work with iTunes purchased
files, but I use a program call Lostify (Google for
it) to tag my ripped DVDs. You could give that a
try. You'll need to find the file in the iTunes
library and I'd take a back up first!

  • Changing video kind from movie to music video

help me please -- i have downloaded six music videos from itunes -- every one of them is listed as a movie and does not show up on ipod under music videos but they are on ipod under movies -- my settings are not on manual update and when i select info and go to video kind on each song the options are not able to be changed because the box is greyed out -- please help me put my music videos where they belong -- have been trying to fix for days on my own -- 60gb video ipod with itunes for windows

If these videos are music videos and not movies, and you have bought them off the iTunes music store, Id recommend emailing apple about it. you can email then here http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/download/

  • Changing the 'Video Kind'

I have a bunch of personal videos, movies, music videos and tv shows. Under 'Get Info'>'Options' you can change the video kind to either movie or music video. I want a better way to organize my videos. Does anyone know how to change it so the tv shows I've downloaded outside of iTunes are classified as tv shows and not movies?

    Try going here:
    http://www.command-tab.com/
The second article has a very brief description, with a sample command line. Here's my suggestion. Move the AtomicParsley folder onto the main drive (C:/) so there is less to enter for your paths (and less opportunity for mistakes), then copy the file you want to convert into the atomicparsley folder, and then change the name of the file to a short name with no spaces - try file1.m4v (mp4, etc).... Then, open atomicparsley and type the command line verbatim (pay special attention to the space before the file name in the string), except the path to the file (users/collins/24_1×01.). In it's place, insert your file name (file1.m4v), and enter the appropriate information that you're wanting to change and just hit enter.
It should run, and you'll see % markers scroll down the open window. It will notify you that the temporary file has been completed, and you can then rename the temporary file (in the atomicparsley folder) and test it to make sure it worked.
Since I'm not on a Mac, it's a little hard to be too specific since I'm completely unaware of what the Mac interface looks like in AP. But a command line is a command line, and it should work the same. Hope I was as clear as I can be under the circumstances....

  • Changing video kind for multiple videos

How do u change the video kind for multiple videos? I have more than 200 tv show episodes in my itunes and it would take forever to change them to movies one by one. Please help:)

Make sure you have the latest version of itunes software (itunes 6.0.4)
    can download here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Easiest way to do this would be to have all 200+ shows in one playlist. Click on one show in the list, then go to edit and click on "select all."
From the Advanced menu, choose Convert Selection for iPod. While converting, you will notice an item named "Converting Songs..." appear in the iTunes Source list. The "Converting Songs..." item disappears after the conversion is over.
For a complete walkthrough, refer to the kbase article "Verifying iTunes video conversion and iPod video syncing using sample QuickTime files":

  • Changing Video Kind

I've been taking some of my DVDs and converting them to mp4 to use on my ipod. For the most part I have not had any problems. I add it to Itunes and then change the info by going to the Video tab and changing the Video Kind to Tv Show and adding info so it's organized, etc. Lately though, I have been trying to add a couple of videos and I can change all of the other info, but when I change it from Movie to Tv Show, Itunes freezes up on me and stays that way. I have to close it and sometimes it even deletes my file.
I've disconnected my ipod, upgraded Itunes, etc..Is this a bug in Itunes videos? Why would changing the video kind lock up itunes??

Nevermind..I was able to get it to change by changing it to Tv Show, clicking to the info tab and clicking Ok there instead.

  • Ipad is deleting videos when you change the media kind to TV Shows

Ever since I updated to iOS 8, I have noticed that files that I have changed the media kind from "Home Video" to "TV Show", to better organize my videos on my ipad, are deleted when I press on them to play in the Videos app.
Is anyone else having this problem since updating to iOS 8? This is frustrating as now I have to leave them as regular "Home Video" kinds which means I have to wade thru a mess of files to find the video i want to watch while working out or studying.

I have the same issue on an Ipad with iOS 8, when adding videos via itunes on a MacBook Air. Also the videos that where on the Ipad pre-update in TV Shows and Movies tabs, went from playable to not playable. All videos in home videos tab work. It seems only when 'Media Kind' is changed is there a problem.
Temp work around is keeping all videos as home videos. Hmmm frustrating but may classify as a first world problem?

  • Incorrect and Un-Changeable 'Video Kind' for Videos Purchased From iTMS

Since I can't seem to find any other way to contact Apple except through paid support channels, their suggestion is to post something here. Hopefully this re-wording of other posts I've read will shed more light on the problem.
    To Apple:
Some videos purchased from the iTunes music store have an incorrect 'Video Kind' which means they are sorted incorrectly in iTunes using Apple's new interface in version 7.
Old Battlestar Galactica episodes have a 'Video Kind' of 'Movie' instead of 'TV Show', so they don't appear in the iTunes smart category as TV shows. They appear in 'Movies', and they shouldn't.
The field for these files is locked/ghosted/unchangeable, I'm assuming because of ridiculous DRM requirements or an oversight. But you are enforcing rules which cause your program to incorrectly sort files, and not allowing your customers to fix the problem.
I want all my TV shows to list in your 'TV Shows' top category, but I can't change the 'Video Kind' for those files (bought via the iTunes music store). I have expected this problem to work itself out in the last few iTunes updates, but it hasn't yet. And there are many threads about this in your discussion forums.
Please unlock the 'Video Kind' field in iTunes for videos downloaded from the iTunes music store (Prison Break Season 1, Battlestar Galactica, The Office Season 1, Surface, etc), or give us some kind of utility that will allow us to correct the mis-categorization.
    Thank you!
    -Tony

I quite agree. I'm not sure how much attention, if any, the iTunes dev. team pay to these groups however. The formal feedback route is via iTunes Feedback, where sadly, I suspect, not much attention is paid either.

  • Batch change file date to match exif date

    Hi All-
I recently got a mac pro. Upon importing my photos to iPhoto, the file date for each is set to the date of the import. When using the mac photo screensaver, the date that shows up for everything is the import date, rather than the date the photo was taken.
Is there any way to batch change the pictures so that the file date matches the date the picture was taken?
(Or, a way to have the screensaver use that date
    Thanks,
    -jamie

Interesting, but here is what I found out. I was annoyed because when I sucked in about 1000 JPGs from my camera's memory stick, and then I copied them to my Windows boxen, the file dates were wrong. I was surprised that there isn't an easy way to do this... until your post!! Thanks. *APPLE, Please fix the way "Originals" are stored during iPhoto import*, since something is wrong here. The file dates stored on my memory stick should have been used not the moment I clicked import in iPhoto.
So I moved my jhead to /usr/bin and gave it root ownership and 755 permissions.
All of the pictures seem to be three deep here:
    cd ~/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/Originals
    ls -lsGrt /*/.jpg
But that is only a small fraction of mine. Most end in .JPG
    ls -lsGrt /*/.JPG
So here is the commands to do the correction of the file date and time. You don't need the find command or that script, although you might need to snoop around and make sure all of your files are here and not any deeper or in some other location. but this should be harmless to run as long as you want to alter every file date.
    jhead -ft /*/.jpg
    jhead -ft /*/.JPG
And that pretty much does it. I don't see any images elsewhere that were brought in by iPhoto 6 on my machine. I looked for MPG files but I don't have any. This is from a video recording camera, so I don't have any MPGs.
So jrsmobile, my mileage varied a lot, since your method missed about 95% of my photos!!

  • Batch Change "Date Modified" to match Exif Data After iPhoto Export

Among several other posts about similar situations, I have found none that directly and simply resolve this issue.
My wife imported a bunch of photos into iPhoto directly, but I wanted them in a folder on the hard drive.
I pulled them out of iPhoto into a folder, then deleted the ones in iPhoto so that I could sort them and reimport.
I then realized that the photos all now showed the date they were imported into iPhoto as their created/modified dates, which makes it impossible to easily sort them by the date of the pictures.
I checked the Exif data, and it has preserved the correct creation date event though checking "info" on the pictures shows create date the same as modified the same as iPhoto import.
Is there an easy way to batch change an entire folder of pictures to change the Created/Modified dates to match the Created date from the Exif data?
The only other similar posts had answers that reccomend a piece of software that does not seem to actually do this, and one that suggests some sort of confusing script that I don't really understand.
Please help - I have a bunch of family photos that I really need to fix.

shootShifter helps to redate and rename complete folders of images based on the EXIF data or Finder dates.
    So it will do batches.
I also believe that exporting the Original (File -> Export: Kind Original) will make all of this unnecessary.
I don't like having them only in iPhoto so I organize the originals into folders by choronological event then import them so I have copies outside the iPhoto library to put elsewhere.
You understand that you're using twice the disk space there, right? And that it's quite unnecessary. All iPhoto does is to put them in folders too. Have you looked inside the iPhoto Library ever?
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed. Your photos are in the Masters folder.
Standard warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
    Regards
    TD
