Video looks Pixelated when dragged into timeline..

Hi,
I am having some problems and can't figure out what is wrong. I am using FCP 5.0 on a G5. I did some titling in Live type. I imported the titles in and when i look at it on a NTSC monitor it looks great. When I drag it into the timeline it looks all pixelated (even after exporting as quick time movie).
my sequence settings are...
Frame size 720x480
Pixel aspect ratio NTSC- CCIR 601 /DV (720x480)
Field dominance- Lower (I changed it to Upper and nothing happened)
Quicktime video setting
Comp DV/NTSC
Quality 100%
what am i doing wrong? I have to turn this project in and i can't Get it to work. HELP...

You probably want to look at the settings for your livetype project as well as your FCP sequence,

  • Clips automatically lengthened when dragged into timeline

    Hello,
I'm new to FCP X, just as I am with video editing so please forgive my noviceness!
When I drag clips from the Event Library into the Timeline(?) (The bit at the bottom, where you arrange the clips) they are automatically made longer. For example, one clip has a length of 54 seconds in the event library, but when dragged into the timeline, it has been stretched to 56 seconds. I'm trying to match a band's studio recording footage to the finished audio and it is impossible when the clips are slowed down (and subsequently lower in pitch).
Is there a setting I need to know about to prevent this? How can I fix this problem?
    Many thanks

If you mark the 'In' and 'Out' points and then press the 'E' key, the clip should be added to the Timeline exactly as marked in the Event Library.
Press 'Q' to add it above the Timeline as a Connected Clip at the Skimmer or the Playhead position.
Press 'W' to insert it into the Timeline at the Skimmer or the Playhead position (all the other clips will be pushed along the timeline to make room for it).
Press 'D' to overwrite it to the Timeline at the Skimmer or the Playhead position.
If you try some of these options and the clip duration changes, I suggest you trash your preferences.
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.

  • Missing Video from clip when bringing into timeline

I'm currently editing a video and half-way through, I'm not sure what happened but now whenever I try to insert a clip from left-hand side clip selection into the timeline, there is a circle with a line through it when I try to place the video where my other video is. I can, however put it in the sound section - the sound works but no video. I've tried saving everything and restarting premiere, I've rendered the video, deleted the clips and put them into the selection, and even brought new clips from my computer in. Nothing has worked.
I'm using Premiere Pro CC and I am on a Mac. Is there any other information I need to provide? I feel that I've somehow changed a setting but I'm not sure what I've done.

Your track is probably not patched.

  • ALL flash videos looks pixelated, win 7 or 8.1, ONLY with firefox

Latest firefox version, latest adobe flash player.. Had cleaned cache and preferences of both Firefox and Flash Player.. two different machines with different hardwares and SOs, no luck!
With Google Chrome all videos are ok. It's like the difference in this two images: http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/computer-chip-super-resolution-640x353.jpg
Firefox's WEB images are GREAT but all videos looks pixelated as the left picture.. had compared the same video with Firefox and Chrome opened side-by-side.. :\

Hardware acceleration ON of OFF didn't make any difference.. honestly I never saw anyone saying they see any difference switching it..
Of course with a higher resolution (720 or 1080p) there's less pixelation, but with other browsers there ain't such issue..

  • Imported stills become pixellated once dragged into the timeline?

I have a frustrating problem. I have generated a 768x576 pixel image (PNG format) for a PAL project which I import into FCE. When the file is double-clicked in the Browser to view in the Viewer, it looks nice and sharp (Viewer window with 200% magnification):
But when I drag that image into the timeline and render it (all video render options are ticked), it looks pixellated and frankly terrible in comparison:
When exported as a movie it also comes out like this. How do I keep this image looking clear and sharp? What is going wrong?

No, not yet, I'm trying to understand why the same image looks different in the Viewer compared to the Timeline. With a bit more digging and reading, part of the problem is the way image conversions are done between the square pixel computer world and rectangular pixel DV world (I'm sure you're familiar with http://lipas.uwasa.fi/~f76998/video/conversion/>this).
Following the pixel aspect and frame size conversion algorithm exactly in Photoshop, and using Quicktime to convert that to a DV frame, I now get a DV frame that matches the aspect ratio and size of the original PNG image. But the DV image still looks much softer and more pixellated than either the original PNG image or the Photoshop processed image.
To my simple brain, I don't see why the DV encoding algorithm should cause so much image degradation when applying the same algorithm in Photoshop produces a much crisper result. Do DV codecs use poor image resampling algorithms or something?
Is there any way to produce a crisper image in DV?

  • Volume doesn't come with video when dropped into timeline (CS3)

when I click the "insert" button in the Source window to drop a defined video segment into the timeline, all of a sudden the audio doesn't come with it.  It was but now it doesn't.  I was messing with the link/unlink for other clips in the timeline but I"m not sure how that relates to dropping segments in the timeline and why the audio doesn't come with it.

This was driving me nuts.  I started a new sequence and it worked there.  I went back to my original sequence and it still wouldn't drop in the audio yet I could copy and paste the audio AND video from the new sequence into the old.  It turns out that somehow I was able to (not intentionally) make no audio track active in my first sequence and when I used the insert button it didn't bring the audio.  But if I clicked on the source video and dragged it to the timeline both audio and video came to the timeline.  Once I highlited the audio channel the little insert button worked.
    This drove me nuts.

  • PLS HELP: Video not showing up when inserting into timeline

    hi everyone:
I recorded DV footage into FCP6. I have the DV footage opened in viewer and I set the in and out points. I drag the viewer footage into the timeline. But only the audio shows up in the time line.
How do I enable it so video can be inserted again?
I did some research and I'm aware there is the v1, a1, a2 on the left side of the timeline bar. If you disconnect v1, a1, or a2 it won't import into timeline on insert. However, even though I have v1 connected to v1 the video still won't show.
May someone help? This project is time sensitive.
    Thanks ahead of time.

    hey Capt,
It everything was recorded properly. Video and audio was captured while doing log and capture.
I was ediiting and I could insert video and audio files fine. Then I just created a new sequence and now it only inserts audio not video. I tried to insert video in my previous sequences that had video but now video can't be inserted either.
Did I hit some sort of key on the keyboard by accident that disabled the video insert?
Yes the v1 is connected to v1, it is both snapped together when I import video so I don't understand why FCP is not importing video from my sequence, unless it's a bug?!

  • Pictures look fuzzy when playing in timeline and even after export.

This is a major headache for me.
I have brought high resolution photos into FCP 7 and they look great when scaled down when I pause or scrub the video in my timeline. When I play my video in the timeline or after an export, it looks fuzzy or pixelated.
I was given the suggestion to mess with interlacing, change the photos to 72dpi before importing to FCP, and other suggestions. Changing the dpi didn't seem to make any difference. Is this a render issue? I've been checking the render setting but haven't had any luck.
    Any suggestions?
I'm not great at determining what my settings should be at for FCP on my MacBook Pro. I have been messing with the settings so much in the past few days trying to fix my fuzzy/pixelated photos problem, and I now am having a difficult time trying to remember what everything was originally set at.
    Help!

I am using QT 7.6.4 as I'm still hanging back on Leopard - not Snow Leopard.
If you look in your "Utilities" folder you might a copy of QT (non-X) in that folder. If not there already, it's an "additional install" on the OS DVD I think.
from here: (Oddly, the corresponding Apple Support page was down. This is Apple's info really...somone else has copied/pasted)
    1. Insert your Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD.
    2. Open the "Optional Installs folder" and double-click "Optional Installs.mpkg".
    3. Select the QuickTime 7 option and click Continue.
    4. QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.
If you have QuickTime 7 installed, Snow Leopard handles the division of labor for you, using QuickTime X when it can and QuickTime 7 when it needs to.
If you don't already have QuickTime 7 installed, then the first time you try to do something that requires it -- such as play a video that needs a non-standard codec, for example -- Snow Leopard will ask if you want to install it.

  • Why does the Video looks Pixelated after Burning DVD

In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great, when I burn the DVD it comes out very very pixelated. I've changed the preferences from Best Performance to Best Quality, and the project properties as well I've done the same. Does anyone know why this is happening?
I'm using 16:4 aspect ratio Video Size is 1280x720
    Help

How are you viewing the DVD you created - on a computer or on a TV?
In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great
The preview uses your original content on your hard drive and is simply designed to allow you to see if the 'flow' (sequences, menus, etc) are what you wanted.
In addition, although iDVD 'supports' HD, it only supports it in the context of current specifications - not the new HD DV world that has two competing HD DVD formats.
This means your 1280x720 content gets downsized and compressed to fit on a 720x480 DVD. The video must be 'expanded' to play on a HD set.
BTW, your aspect ratio is 16:9 and NOT 16:4. 16:4 would REALLY be widescreen! I haven't seen THAT spec yet.

  • Screen Capture Video Loses Quality When Imported Into iMovie - WHY?

I am using screen capture software to make a video of my screen at 1024x768. The video is for a tutorial. I want to use iMove to get things like transitions and such into the movie, and to add text and audio. The problem is that, although the video looks great in QuickTime, it loses quality significanly when I import into iMove. The text on the screen is blurry, and the quality of everything else is terrible as well.
Is this s limitation of iMove? Can screen capture video be imported? Does it only work with DV?
Also, I tried to convert the file to many other formats, from QuickTime to MPEG-4, so it's not the file type.
If anyone can help me out, I've be very grateful.
    Thanks!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Your dimensions are getting in the way. iMovie converts your 1024X768 to a DV Stream file that is 720X480.
One workaround would be to set your display resolution smaller. Try 800X600 (if your windows fit that size).
If you're using Snapz Pro you should set your window capture to 640X480. This size will import nicely into iMovie.
An even better way would be to do all of the work using QuickTime Pro. Again a 1024X768 QT.mov file would not fit on the most common display settings used. When you add the QT Player window the controller would be below the screen and not accessible for most users.
800X600 would make a better file (smaller, too). It would still be 4:3 aspect and would also import into iMovie.

  • Help- FCExpress videos look terrible when burned on iDVD

What am I doing wrong here? I am editing my SD DV-Cam videos in Final Cut Express and exporting as Quicktime movies using the following compression:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: Best
    Dimensions: 721x540
The DVD's look great when played on the computer, but horrible when played on my television through my DVD player (the pixelate and stripe, particularly when there is lots of movement)
Should I be using a different compression?

    Hello John,
I've a couple of different workflows depending on what I want and which version you're running (and on what machine) but generally this is the process. It is recommended that you export your timeline as QT movie even if you use Compressor (and not send to Compressor from within FCE/FCP) because it has the nasty habit of re-rendering your timeline, which adds to the already long encoding times of Compressor 2 and later. If your mac is not very powerful, you can let DVDSP do the encoding - the encoder is based on Compressor, but seems to be a bit faster.
What is not recommended is that, for example, you export your DV PAL timeline using QT Conversion with the exact same settings as in your sequence ... QT will re-encode the sequence (rather than just writing the file) and the outcome usually is flawed. Any other conversion (e.g. h.264) I'd run through compressor - that is if you have the time and want high quality.
    hope this helps

  • Built-in iSight video is jerky when recorded into iMovie.

    Hello,
When I record video in iMovie directly from my built-in iSight, the resulting video is rather jerky - it doesn't look like the frame rate is slow, it's just that if I move my arm quickly, for example, while it may be a smooth motion in real life, the recorded video has little stutters in the motion, almost if some of the frames are out-of-order.  I don't have this issue when using iChat - everything looks fine there. I have a MacBook Pro 17-inch (Mid-2009), with iLife '09, Mac OS X 10.6.7, 4 GB RAM, and about 100 GB of free space on my hard drive.  Everything is completely up-to-date via Software Update, and I just ran Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility last week.  The last time I recorded into iMovie, I didn't have any other applications running on the computer, and it still happened.  The computer was sitting stationary on a table.  I was using a professional microphone through a FireWire interface, and the audio recorded perfectly - it was just the video that had issues.  The audio and video stayed perfectly in-sync the whole time, too.  The video looked jerky in iMovie immediately after recording, and still looked jerky after being uploaded to YouTube.  I've seen other people's videos on YouTube that exhibit this behavior, and they generally look fine if I go down to a lower resolution for playback, so I'm guessing I'm not alone - it could either be an iSight issue or an iMovie issue.

Sorry, I meant when I use the 'Q' command to put the video onto the storyline. I use the Import files to bring the files into my library of videos and it looks fine there before using 'Q' to stack the video onto the storyline. 99 percent of the time it works fine, it just has this flipped error when building multi-video composites, it has never happened when I build a normal video project.

  • Flash Video Looks great when i play localy but is very grainy when played from a server

What could be going on that would cause my flash video to look terriable when played off a server, but look great when played localy?
the clip is encoded in f4v and is about 3 min long, when i test it i use the same html file and browser,  the only thing that changes is, local vs server

here is a link to the clip   the issue really stands out at about 19 sec into the clip where there are some animated lines that flow around http://www.autical.net/saver/
below i added screen shots the top one is the local and the bottom one is the server
i guess i used the term grainy incorrectly,  i should have said blocky

  • Preview Icons vanishing when dragged into new folder.

When dragging an image file (with a preview icon showing the small representation of that image) is dragged from it's original folder to a new one, the preview disappears and is replaced with a generic "EPS" or "Jpeg" grey icon. Futher, if I get information about the file, the preview picture of the image also shows just a generic file type icon, even though I can see clearly the preview icon. This is so frustrating, as I must then batch process images in photoshop to have a new preview image show up.
To make things even more annoying, the process is inconsistent. If I drag the a eps file from the original folder with the image preview into a new folder, the preview may be missing. If I drag and drag, creating multiple copies of the file in a new folder "hnuewf.eps 1, .2, .3 etc...) almost always one of these attempts will copy correctly, with the preview intact. What the heck is going on!

    Partilly solved by rebuilding permissions....

  • Premiere Elements 8 video looks bad when editing

    Hi -
I'm brand new to Premiere Elements 8 - in fact just installed it on an HP/Compaq 6530b laptop running Windows Vista (32 bit).  Initially, I tried to edit a Flip video (MPG4) and also a Flip video that I converted to AVI.  I also have a new Canon Vixia HF M31; regardless of what video I use, the video editing window looks horrible.  There's a "double image" - the one on top is heavy green and there's another "double image" of the video below it that looks better but is below the green-shaded video (see inserted image below).  I'm wondering if it's an issue with the laptop, especially since multiple video formats have the same problem.  Where do I begin to resolve this?
NOTE: I've taken this same video and it looks fine with Windows Movie Maker (at least the MPG4 - haven't tried the Vixia .MTS video yet as I'm guessing it won't work with Movie Maker).
    Thanks,
    Calvin

Thanks Bill and everyone else.  I appreciate all of your thoughtful responses.
I've tried PE8 on my personal desktop PC (though its only a trial b/c my corporation has a license for PE8 but only for PC managed on our network) and things look much better, other than that annoying "Trial version" banner inserted on my videos.
I've render some video of my daughter playing volleyball as a PC-based media file and I'm pretty surprised at all the presets available and how using one of the various MPEG2 or NTCS presets makes a huge difference in the quality of the video.  Where can I read more about this?  What I do notice is the MPEG2 video looks very clear but is choppy when the camera is moving while the NTSC that I used is a bit pixilated but the video is not choppy when the camera is moving.
In the end, I'm trying to decide if PE8 is for me - this is my first HD camcorder and in the past I was happy with Pinnacle (way back on Version 10); I've heard that really it's down to PE8 or Sony Vegas.  I'll keep doing research and I think there's a trial download of Vegas but I always appreciate the advice of experts.
    Thanks again!
