Video menu pulls up to only a black box

Hey,
Havnt used Itunes in a while, but recently found out about the TV shows avail for download. After installing everything seemed to be running seemlesly, I could connect to radio feeds, and download and play music.
The onlything that doesnt seem to be working is Video. When I click the video tab in the tool bar, It pulls up a black screen where at the top it has,
All Movies Music Videos Podcasts ect.
But after that its just a black blank screen, and nothing comes up when I use the search function either.
Ive tried to reboot, and reinstall with having no effect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmm, after reading Katrina's response, I'm inclined to think she might have better understood your issue.
Try going to the iTunes Music Store and watching/previewing a video there. The link to them is on the left hand side below the Genre pulldown menu a little ways with orange NEW! icons by them.
But I did have this problem on a windows machine and it was because something happened and Quicktime didn't upgrade properly, which is why I originally wrote the following:
Hello, I think this is problem with QuickTime.
QuickTime was moved to version 7.0.3 when iTunes with video came out. And if QT doesn't upgrade right, you get nothing but black screens.
With Windows, they are bundled together, so this shouldn't happen, but it sounds like maybe you're still at QT 7.0.2 or below or something just didn't take right. You might try to upgrade QT independent of iTunes - http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html should be the link.
But I would suggest redownloading the iTunes 6 installer (which includes the right QT version), then uninstalling iTunes and QT, and reinstalling with the fresh download. Your music library should be completely unaffected by any of this.

Adobe Flash Player only shows black box on most websites.

Adobe Flash Player 11.4.402.287 is only showing a black box but not loading or showing any buttons on some/most websites. I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and the problem exists on websites such as espn.com but works on others such as hulu and youtube. It exists on Google Chrome and Firefox. I had some adblock and flash add-ons in Firefox, but I have the add-ons disabled. And the problem exists in both browsers. It has been a problem for less than a month but I am not sure entirely how much longer. I was outside of the US until recently, the problem may have corresponded with return but I am not sure. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated.

I am facing the same issues as well. In particular, I can't play flash videos on www.blizzard.com as the video controls doesn't show up.
YouTube and Facebook flash videos work fine.
After deleting ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player and ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player, the controls appeared.
Perhaps you may want to try that?

No Video Menu

I am trying to attach my Sony DCR TRV27 miniDV camera to use with iCHat AV 2.1. It is on the list of compatible cameras, but for some reason is not being recognized. Secondly, while in the iChat workspace I am unable to see the video menu - that I am only aware of from reading this "Discussion", and the opening still of the Quicktime promo on Apple's website.
Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
If you mean that in the iChat Preferences you can not see the tool bar icons ?
Then you need to use the light coloured (white) button top right of the Preferences window.
In any Toolbar that can be hidden this button will toggle between the Preference on show and the whole set of toolbar icons.
I am unaware if this camera has multiple output modes (TV signals, DV, Mpeg) It might pay to check it is outputting the right sort of signal. (iChat insists in DV signals)

Question about plugging in an ajax progress bar component onto a black-box.

I have the following problem: I want to integrate an ajax progress bar component to a j2ee application and I am in reference to the following pattern (https://bpcatalog.dev.java.net/nonav/ajax/progress-bar/design.html). It seems I need for the "task" component to return the percent. The problem I have is that I am calling a legacy method (i.e. as400) that does not return a percent as it is to me only a black-box. Here is a snippet of what it looks like to me:

That's not a legacy method. The latest version of JTOpen was issued less than a month ago. And note that it's open-source, so you could change it yourself to provide percent-complete data. (Of course you'd have to be able to get that data from the underlying iSeries command.)
It wouldn't be easy, but if you think about it for a minute you'll realize that you can't display percentage complete in a progress bar unless you have some way of finding out what percentage the task has actually completed.

IChat video only in black and white?

When I use iChat, the video output is only in black and white. Does anyone know how I can get it to return to full color?

Click on your own Video icon so you have a Preview of your Video
GO to the Video Menu and Select Video Effects.
In there whichever "Page" it is On select the middle one.
iChat will remember any Effect or, on Intels, any Backdrop you set if it is still active on ending A Video chat.

Certain videos give me only a black screen, for example all CBS News or Cnettv videos. Most videos, including, for example, NBS News videos play fine, as do the commercials before CBS News videos, but when a CBS video is supposed to start the window goes black and there is no sound. The counter does not advance. I have Flash player Version 11.8.800.175; IE version 10.0.9200.16686, update version 10.0.9, on Windows 7. ActiveX filtering is off, Shockwave Flash Object is enabled. I have the same problem on two similarly configured Dell computers in two cities.

hello spearcarrier, this might be an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in ''firefox > options > advanced > general''.

Movie files embedded in Powerpoint for Mac 2011 play audio, but only show black (no video).

I'm trying to embed a video in a presentation using Powerpoint for Mac 2011. It successfully imports the video, but when I try to play the video in the slide it only plays the audio and black (no video). I have tried .mov and .wmv files and neither works. I have Flip4Mac on the machine which is a MacBook Pro 15", if that makes any difference. The video in either format plays outside of the Powerpoint presentation and if I send the presentation to another MacBook Pro the video in the slide plays no problem. Anyone have any ideas other than not using a Microsoft product on a Mac?

Here's some more info.
I tried installing the latest iTunes to my housemate's PC, logging into iTMS with my account, authorizing his machine to play my content, restoring my iPod to the factory settings, downloading the videos and copying them to my iPod.
It worked fine, and I can play my videos.
I have done the exact SAME thing on my own home PC twice, after completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Software Updater. But I still can't get any videos downloaded on my home PC to play on my iPods.
Any thoughts?

Forget about all the rest until you check out the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the current 1/2 wmv display related to a recent Windows Update kb file. I missed the wmv part of your initial question by focusing too much on the thread title.

MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
"MS bulliten MS13-057. Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files. Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
You can uninstall these windows updates to resolve your problem."
There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.

I just updated my Firefox, and now whenever I use Youtube, I only see black screens where the video should be, but I can still hear the sounds; what gives?

The Youtube pages load as normal, but as stated above, the player contains only a black screen, and the progress bar moves as usual when playing the clip, but I can only hear, and not see, the actual video.

Yes, just made sure of that. I do have the latest version of Flash player. But I have just staggered upon the answer. Chalk it up to being a newbi. I was not putting my apple tv to sleep and it would not allow me to see
you tube on my computer while it was still operating on my TV. When I realized that, I put the apple tv to sleep and bingo, my computer runs you tube fine. Thanks again for your response.

Everytime I open a youtube video (embbed or not) I get a black screen and my whole pc crashes. Only happens in firefox, no other browser.

Newest version of firefox, and flash. Tried clearing cache. Been having this problem for a year or more.
No mater what I do, if I open a youtube video in firefox, my pc crashes. Black screen and I have to hit the manual reset button. No error report to send, no idea why this happens. It does not do it when using chrome.
Really irritating and going to cause me to give up on using firefox if I cannot find a solution soon.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting
Can you check the Windows event log to see if that gives any clues about the Windows crashes if you get a BSOD?

Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first. (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions. (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs. (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have Web Browser open ?
This may point to Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict. It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

No TV Shows Option In Video Menu plz help

Hi, so I just got my first Apple product today. (30gig Black Video)
I love it so far.
Only thing I'm having trouble with the TV Shows option.
It does not show up after Syncing my IPOD
I have set a couple videos to be marked as TV Shows but when I do so I cannot see them due to TV Shows not being an option in my video menu section.
When I mark the videos as movies they show up fine in that section.
Also, even though they don't show up when marked as TV Shows they due show up in Video Playlists->Recently Added.
Any help would be very appreciated.

I really had a feeling it was something along those lines.
A few quick questions to clear the rest up:
If I use a metatag editor, will that allow my private videos to display under the TV shows Area?
If I purchase a TV Show from itunes and it allows the TV Shows menu to show up, will other videos AT THAT POINT be viewable under TV shows if marked as such?
