Video on an iWeb page

Hi, I know how easy it is to drag and drop a video onto an iWeb page. I believe it uses QuickTime as the player. Is there a way to get a broader reach with the video though? For example, Mac users will have Quicktime so they would be able to see the video on the site by default. But what about those users on *that other OS* who don't have QuickTime. Is there a way to have the video use the default player (or maybe even embed a player into the site itself) such that site visitors won't have to download a plug-in or anything, which might turn them off right off the bat?
Thanks.

Any video format requires a browser plug-in be used to display it.
Flash Media requires Flash Player. Windows Media formats require Windows Media Player. Real Player formats require Real Player and QuickTime formats require QuickTime Player.
iWeb writes page code to use QuickTime. It's installed on all Macs and has been downloaded a half a billion times by PC users. It's bundled with iTunes for PC.
You could make more than one version of your file and hand edit the iWeb page code to include them or "link to file" so they could download the file.
Probably not worth the trouble once you investigate.

  • Video clips on iweb pages

    I have several small quicktimes on several of my iweb pages to show samples of my work. Is there a way in iweb that I can place a thumbnail that visitors can click on to open that specific video file?
    I'm looking for a way to avoid a visitor having to wait a while to download all videos on a given page even if they only want to watch a certain one.
    Could someone please give me some advice on the best way to deal with videos in iweb?
    Thank You

    You can place each video on its own page to download faster. Create a page of thumbnails and select each one in turn to make it a hyperlink to the appropriate page in the "link" inspector. You can select "open link in new window" and exclude the "video" pages from the navigation in the "page " inspector. This will prevent overloading the main navigation menu and save you having to have a "back" button on each "video" page.
    You can select "autoplay" in the "QuickTime" inspector so that the movie starts when the page loads.

  • Embed video into iweb page

    Is there any way to embed video into my iWeb page without making an external HTML file?
    Thanks.

    QuickTime Media Link format. One of mine as an example:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/wwdc_keynote.qtl
    They are text based files that download when clicked so there is no need for any addition html code to open a new page.

  • Flash films on iWeb pages

    I want to host 6 flash films (approx 3 min each) encoded with Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder on iweb pages that would be linked from my external web hosting company. The main page being hosted with the external company. I have 30gb of space in my iDisk. Would there be a problem with bandwidth or storage? not sure how many visitors I would get but at the moment I get 4 or 5 per day!

    Use your calculator
    (avg. number of visitors) * ( number of files * avg. filesize ) * (numbers of days in a month) = bandwidth

  • Best type of video files to post on iWeb pages?

    I am a teacher and I am posting Screencasts that I record of my lessons each day on my website created by iWeb '09. I have been exporting them as either .mov files or .mp4 files (both H.264) and playing them in a Flash "wrapper". I have been using a Flash "wrapper" thinking that more people have the ability to play flash than quicktime. However, what I have noticed on an old Mac Mini that my daughter has is that the H.264 files played within the wrapper tend to hesitate while playing. If I just "drop" the file in an iWeb page, it seems to play without the hesitation (on the old Mac Mini). (By the way...these files are mostly around 50-70 mb in size.) The problem is that most of my students have PC's and it seems that every year there are at least a few that have problems playing the quicktime files (which is why I went the way of the wrapper). Anyone have any advice on the best video for all?

    Terry Daniels wrote:
    Will an iPhone or iTouch play these files?
    Have you looked at the video playback requirements on the specifications page? You will find your answer there.
    The older MPEG-4 video codec would work with QuickTime 5, or higher, installed.
    In obvious terms this means that a computer (PC) that does not have Quicktime player installed will not play the MPEG-4 file.
    If you wanted to go that route you could encode a WMV file for PC users and a MPEG-4 file for Mac users then use a server side script to determine the users' browser and display the appropriate file. This method is beyond the scope of novice iWeb design, however.

  • Will iWeb page with total of 28 MB video (4 videos, 7 MB each) load okay?

    My general question is, what is the maximum file size of video for iWeb page that will load relatively quickly? My specific question is: on one page, I plan to have 4 separate videos of approx. 7 MB each.
    Will this page load at an adequate speed? Thank you!

    What do you consider OK? There are a lot of users out there with very slow internet connections which might give up before the videos loaded.
    There is a way to have multiple videos on a page and not have them load until the play button of them is selected. This demo page shows how: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 9 videos added that way: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.

  • Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

    Is there any reason photos in an album page created in iweb display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

    there are three displays in photos page:
    1) thumbnails grid - smallest
    2) deatial view and detail view slideshow - large
    3a) pop-up slideshow - vary - this is slideshow.html
    3b) or iphone/ipad slideshow phoneshow.html - iphone/ipad can't do pop-up
    it's difficult to know which you refer to.
    if you refer to pop-up slideshow then you should not look into iwebmediagrid.js as wyodor suggested.
    instead look in phoneshow.html and change width and heigth of element id slideshow:
    #slideshow {
    position: relative;
    width: 320px; /* this is default width */
    height: 360px; /* this is default height */
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
    overflow: hidden;

  • Want to set up a video portfolio in iweb '09

    I'm a camerawoman and filmmaker, wanting to post my sample reel clips online. I'd like to set it up where the thumbnail of the clip opens up a streaming video on the same page (not in a new page). An associate of mine has the same set up and she did it in iweb: http://kareygreen.com, so I know it's possible.
    Can anyone help me figure this out?

    This is the JavaScript I use in the ClickMovie page. Feel free to use it.
    http://www.wyodor.net/Tutorials/ImageWidget/widget.js
    Paste this in [the HTML Snippet|http://www.wyodor.net/Tutorials/ImageWidget//ClickMoviefiles/widget3markup.html]:
    <script src="../../widget.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    It's an exercise to tame iWeb and to see what's possible.
    And note that all the video samples are embedded with the HTML Snippet. The HTML Snippet is just a placeholder. The embedded pages (should) work on their own.
    I use http://translate.google.com
    And yes, the way Google translates would not pass me my exams. Even I wasn't that bad at school. Though the translation isn't perfect, it isn't incomprehensible. The major keywords are the same in English. So give it a try.

  • How to embed a flash video player in iWeb?

    I'm using this open source video player:
    http://www.jeroenwijering.com/extras/readme.html#installing
    I've customized it here:
    http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.html
    I'm trying to imbed it in an iWeb page using the "HTML Snippet" feature.
    This is the code that is recommended:
    <embed src="http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.swf" width="600" height="600
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=
    "http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
    </object>
    .... but I'm left with only a "white box" with the rotating circle...
    any ideas?

    Here is an updated version of the question which will hopefully make it useful for further users of iWeb... once an answer is found....
    I'm trying to embed this player into myspace and also into iWeb 2.0 as a "web widget":
    http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.html
    This HTML will make it work in Myspace and iWeb 2.0:
    <object enableJSURL="false" enableHREF="false" saveEmbedTags="true" allowScriptAccess="never" allownetworking="internal" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.swf" height="300" width="312">
    <param name="movie" value="http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.swf" />
    <param name="allownetworking" value="internal" />
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="never" />
    <param name="enableJSURL" value="false" />
    <param name="enableHREF" value="false" />
    <param name="saveEmbedTags" value="true" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="..FFFFFF" />
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="menu" value="false" />
    <param name="scale" value="showall" />
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/playlist.xml&autostart=true&lightcolor=0xffcc00" />
    ...BUT ..... no menu shows up to select the video...
    I think the problem is that it's running the SWF file OK, but in order for it to work properly, it has to read data from this HTML file http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/flvplayer.html
    and this XML file: http://www.perlstrax.com/alexanderperls_musicvideos/playlist.xml
    Here is a recent discussion on placing these players in myspace:

  • Using Windows Media video clips in iWeb

    I purchased Flip4Mac to begin encoding Windows Media movies for publishing via iWeb. I have discovered it is not possible to include Windows Media clips in iWeb pages. iWeb automatically queues QT on any browser viewing the page with a movie embedded regardless of the movie's format. Is anyone aware of a work-around for this?
    As much as I like QT and besides the fact that it is a far superior product to Windows Media, QT has a very limited presence on PCs where admin. privs. are required to download software. This excludes a significant number of corporate machines and libraries, a big viewing market for my site. Since my site is basically a video clip library, I'd like to find a solution for this.

    YOU ARE RIGHT "MOST" people will see your stuff on a windows PC
    HERE IS A SUPER SIMPLE SOLUTION that will pull up the windows media player & play your video
    You need to make a non-movie page, any will do. Start your movie and take a photo of it with shift-apple-4. This will give you an image of the movie and also the Windows Media Player frame. Place this image on your page, give it a title etc and make sure the image is selected. Using the inspector, chose Link to File. When you do this, navigate to the wmv file that corresponds. When you upload your site, that file will be stored along with it and when the link is hit the wmv movie will launch
    PIECE-O-CAKE!

  • How to embed Windows video files in iweb

    I uploaded several videos to a web site using iweb for a fortune 500 company only to find out the wmv videos I put in didn't load because iweb uses a quicktime container for all videos dropped on the page. After spending a lot of time on this site (how to link video files, embeding google/youtube video) I finally came across another site that was very help. If you interested here it is:
    Home page: http://www.mediacollege.com/
    Embedded wmv files: http://www.mediacollege.com/video/format/windows-media/streaming/
    Just drop in the html code and change the file names and location.
    I'm new to mac and this discussion board has been very helpful. I hope Apple includes a way to embed windows file. There are too many PCs out there to ignore.
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I choose to ignore Windows use until I need to fire up my PC. I don't create files for WMP format, either.
    You are leaving out some import "steps" when you say "drop in the html code" because this requires post-publishing edits with a plain text editor.
    And the code shown is now out of date as Microsoft "change the rules" (again) for ActiveX content.
    This page code would generate an ActiveX alert dialog asking the viewer what to do. Many viewers just click "No" and move on.

    we have tried using video light box, but this doesnt seem to work.

    There's an example of one at the buttom of ths page...

    Rather than link to the file, the movie is on a separate web page and uses the code shown on this page...

  • Embedded simpleviewer gallery in iWeb page

    I've been doing a lot of research looking up on different sites and I've come up with a battle plan. I want to embed a simpleviewer gallery into my iweb page. Right now, I have a gallery set to open up in a separate window, and it's working fine. I'd either like to hide the address bar or embed the simpleviewer gallery right into the page, so instead of just the gallery opening up in its own webpage, the new page would include the rest of my links, and images. I think that an html snippet is the way to go, but I don't know how to obtain all the proper html to make it work. Does anybody know how to get it? iWeb's help section for html snippets is ironically incredibly unhelpful.
    Here's a link to the gallery as it is now.

    I guess I should mention that I've seen it done before, I'm not just making something up. Here's a link to an autoviewer gallery that I've seen, and it's embedded into the iWeb page.

    and here's a link to the rough page that I made for it

    Exactly which parts do I need to edit? I have a basic understanding of html, but I don't know how to link the gallery files to my iWeb page. Also, the Simpleviewer code doesn't look anything like some people say it should. For example, http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk/Site/SimpleViewer.html
    Is this page not accurate? Is it dealing with an earlier version of Simpleviewer?

  • VIDEO PODCAST WITH iWEB-how to deal with huge file size

    Hello folks,
    I have created simple website for my video podcast. It all works fine, except one problem. I had used just small video clips for now, just for testing... and it takes long time for website to download. I can't even imagine, how slow it will be, when I have full 15 video episodes within my website. So I am wondering, is there any way of how to maintain that cool iWeb podcast structure (with podcast page, entry page and archive page) but not to embed those videos onto the page, but instead, play it externally? I have tried to just post the link to the video clip, but than "publish to the folder alternative" does not create correct rss.xml feed, because it does not know where those clips are. So it doesn't work in iTunes.
    Any suggestions? Thanks for any input or advise.

    Hello,
    unfortunately, no answer yet. The only solution I can think of, is to create a Blog instead of Podcast, then post hyperlink to your video file on entry page. That way, the actual video is not embeded on that webpage, but it only downloads when someone clicks on it. That way you probably won't be able to use subscribe button and RSS subscribe button, but you can create your own Feed with Feed For All software (http://www.feedforall.com), put it on your domain, then post it's URL on your website. So if someone wants to subscribe to your podcast, he will copy that address and paste it into the iTunes or some other podcast readers.
    I am a beginner, so this most likely is not the best solution, however, it works so far.
    Good Luck

  • IWeb pages displayed correctly in Firefox but on in Safari/Chrome

    I made a personal web page with iWeb. Now some of the pages are not displayed correctly in Safari and/or Chrome.
    Check this page for example : http://maiklohse.de/Maik_Lohse/media.html
    There are 6 YouTube videos embedded in the page. They all will show up if you use Firefox - but not with Safari or Chrome. Anybody got any ideas?

    An alternative way to add so many Quicktime movie files to a page so it will load faster is to use the method in this demo page: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. None of the movies will load until the play button is selected. That will let the page load very quickly. Right now it's glacially slow.
