Video on Imac

Hi
I have a wireless video camera that transmits the signal to a reciever. This reciever can send the signal to a TV through a cable with a yellow composite-video plug. (RCA-connector I guess)
How can I connect this to my Imac so I can se the transmitted video live on the Imac screen?
Regards
Lars

Hi Lars, if RCA is the only option...

  • Easiest (and best) way to stream video from iMac to TV

    All,
Trying to look for the highest quality, easiest & least expensive ways to get HD video from my iMac to my TV.
I could run wire - but that's sloppy, and a pain in the butt. Probably least expensive though.
Could get a Mac mini - but that's expensive.
Looking into getting a USB device (they sell them on TigerDirect.com) that beams the signal to a receiver - but they seem to be Windows based.
I do have a PS3 & XBOX360, and I know there are some programs out there to do this, but I've never been satisfied with the quality - major stalling or streaming issues gumming up the entertainment.
Can you folks weigh in with your tips, tricks or suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Combined audio & video from iMac mini DVI & headphone ports to HDMI to TV

I presently have my iMac connected to my Sony Bravia tv so that the video goes from the mini DVI port through a converter to HDMI to a 25 foot cable, a HDMI coupler and another 25 foot cable to the TV. The video quality is good since I use 24 AWG cables. The audio goes from the headphone port through a 50 foot 3.5 mm cable to a converter to RCA stereo cables to the tv. The audio quality is not very good with this setup and I would like to send the audio over the HDMI cable with the video so that I would have only a single cable over the 50 foot run and could use a HDMI wall plate for a neater installation. I am wondering whether anyone has tried this somewhat expensive solution to my kind of problem, and whether it worked. Atlona DVI + Digital Audio to HDMI Converter. Model: AT-DVID-HDMI

Not sure if it would work. The audio input is described as +audio (SPDIF) input+ which is not analog or the Toslink optical digital. SPDIF is a digital format, so you would need another converter. And since the video input is full DVI, you'd need a different adapter for the iMac's video output.
Considering the complexity, additional adapters, rather long travel length, and $199 price for the Atlona device, depending on what you want to show on the HDTV, you may want to consider an Apple TV. The older 40GB version is $149 at the Apple +Special Deals+ page. You can then stream your content wirelessly, and not have to worry about any cabling. But obviously, an Apple TV does not stream everything that that iMac can play, so it would only work if what you want to show is stuff you can play in iTunes. Plus you may want to see what Apple introduces at the 1/27 special event.
The iMac's audio output port doubles as an optical digital port, with a Toslink adapter, so if the Sony Bravia has optical digital input, you may be able to run a Toslink cable. I believe 50 feet is too long, so you would need some type repeater at the midway point.

  • Looking For a Download Any Video App iMac

All I want to do is download any video using an app that works with an iMac.  is there such an animal? Thanks for any help

Well, let's not wait for the future.  Here it is: On Firefox you can download a video helper and install it. That enables you to go any site on the internet with video. If you want to download a video  to your desktop, let's say, you look for the swirling rainbow color balls, and next to it is a symbol that when you click on it  reveals the video playing. You click the video title, and it is downloaded to your desktop if you so choose that location.  Can I do that with Safari?  Can I go on the internet and look for the equivalent download helper for mac?  I don't want to always download videos using Firefox, though it's very easy....Thanks

  • Streaming HD video from iMac to ATV2 too slow, but from iPhone4 works fine

When streaming HD (720p) video from iTunes on my iMac (2006 2Ghz Intel Core Duo) to my ATV2 it is painfully slow. So slow as to be unusable (watch 2 minutes, wait 5 minutes of buffering, watch 2 minutes...and so on). However, if I stream the exact same HD video from my iPhone 4 via AirPlay to the ATV2 it works perfectly. There's hardly even any initial buffering delay. The iMac, ATV2 and iPhone 4 are all on the same 802.11g WiFi network. What the **** could be causing such a difference in data transmission speeds between iMac and iPhone 4??
Is the AirPort in my iMac so much worse than the WiFi in my iPhone4?

    TheOneAndOnly BiGMaC wrote:
The file is decreased in size from the size you have in your library in order to load on the iPhone and play there.
No, in this case the file is exactly the same size (1.95Gb). The iPhone 4 can handle 720p HD video.
A g network is plenty fast enough to stream 720p HD, which requires 4-5Mbps, a tenth of what a g network is technically capable of. In any case, the fact that I could stream the exact same file from my iPhone to the ATV2 via wireless shows the network itself is not the problem.
After doing some tests, it would appear that the wireless performance of the AirPort on my iMac is the culprit. My ISP connection is a 50Mbps fibre link, and in network speed tests my iPhone (sitting right next to my iMac) can get 8Mpbs whereas the iMac struggles to get 1Mpbs. Running ethernet to my iMac is not practical and in any case, the g network should be plenty fast enough for what I need. I need to try and figure out what's holding my iMac's AirPort back.

  • Can I input MacMini server thunderbolt video into IMac minidvi port?

I have a new MacMini server with Thunderbolt video output, and a mid 2010 27" IMac with minidvi external video input.
I have used the IMac as a monitor for my Mac Pro with good results for over a year.
My understanding from the Apple web site is that Thunderbolt video will drive a current model 27" LED Cinema display with minidvi input, so long as the monitor is the last item in the thunderbolt chain.
I have been unable to get the thunderbolt video from my Mac Mini to drive the minidvi external video input on my IMac.
Am I doing something wrong?  The monitor is the last (and only) item from the thunderbolt output on the MacMini server.
I continue to struggle with the disparate apple video standards, but need the ability to occasionally use the IMac in its external monitor mode, as opposed to remoting in to the MacMini server across the network.
    Any help appreciated.

    My Bad...
MiniDisplayPort is required, and this is what I have.
I believe that I finally solved the problem after getting through to a tier 2 Apple tech.
It does work, but there are several caveats:
    1.  Both machines are required to be on before connecting them.
    2.  This mode will support Windows 7 in boot camp, but you are required to connect the two devices in OSX, be certain the video is displayed on the monitor which is in Target Display mode, and then reboot the source machine to boot camp.
    3.  The MiniDisplayPort is the required cable, even though the source machine might use thunderbolt.
    Thanks....

I have a 24" imac with the built in webcam, isight, with tiger.
We can type to one another, but when I invite for a video conference she can't seem to see me or can't see where to accept. I can see myself in the window.
What are doing wrong. Maybe somebody could add me on there ichat and help me out. Thank you

What version of AIM is she using? If it's the latest, called Triton, it won't work with iChat. She needs AIM version 5.9 instead.
If that's not the problem, it might be something in your set-up.
You might fare better with Skype, which is much easier to set up and has full-screen video.

  • Video input/ iMac display as monitor

    Hello everybody,
I have got a feature request for future releases of the iMac series. I think I would not be the only one appreciating a solution to use an iMac's display as monitor for other computing devices such as the Mac mini or older PC-hardware. In my opinion this video input would not have to be more than another little port at the back of an iMac. This could be solved with a mini-port like it is now with the mini-DVI.
When trying to find a way to use my iMac that way I only found this vnc solution which requires a network connection between both devices but I also found many posts asking for a solution like my proposal.
Please let me know what you think of it! Thanks in advance!

It's not that easy. Providing a direct input to the monitor would require quite a bit of additional circuitry. I think that the cost of providing such in input would be unjustifiable when considering the small percentage of iMac buyers who would use such a feature. But you can suggest it to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
For a workaround, perhaps Screen Recycler would work for you.

  • Audio hum in Photobooth videos on iMac

This just started happening on my Mom's computer, here's a demo video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPCNV588m2Y
The audio was always totally clear in videos prior to today.
    It's a 21" 3.06GHz running 10.6.4.

Remove any and all desktop speakers, connected speaker systems, headphones and the USB microphone.
Disconnect any and all other electrical devices from the same surge strip/wall plug that the iMac is plugged into.
    Now reset the iMac's SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    +1. Shut down the computer.+
    +2. Unplug the computer's power cord.+
+3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.+
    +4. Release the power button.+
+5. Attach the computers power cable.+
+6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.+
Then test the iMac using only the internal mic before reconnecting any other non- essential devices.
Now then if that clears up the feedback problem, reconnect and test your other devices one at a time.
If not, then there is an internal problem with the iMac and it needs to go in for service.

  • Capturing Video with iMac?

    Hey!
We are somewhat new to mac's. I have an older video camera that stores to tape. The only output is VHS or a yellow RCA connector. With a PC I think I could pick up a cheap video capture card for as cheap as $50.
Is there some sort of similar USB or Firewire external capture card I could plug into the iMac?
Would I use software on the mac to import it with the capture card or the software that comes with the card?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thx,
    Brent

Many miniDV cameras have a pass through facility for converting analogue to digital, if you have a friend who has one of these cameras you may end up paying for a few beers for borrowing it rather than $ 50 for a card.
However there are cards and external devices available to you as a mac user if you can't find a willing friend with such a camera.

  • Down loading video to iMac

    Hi
This is a bit hard to explain but I have an old Sony camcorder with video out and I want to get it into my iMac. The iMac has firewire but the camcorder only has a connection that looks like end on a oblong box with one side (one of the longest sides) slightly bent in, I hope you understand, and would you know if a cable called "9Pin to 4Pin IEEE 1394B Bilingual Firewire " will work?
I live out in the sticks in Spain and it is impossible to get any sort of cables so I have to sen away for them, so I need to know I am sending for the right ones.
    Thanks

    Amazon UK ships to Spain.
Take a look at this cable for £3.62

  • Go pro video on imac

The GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition can record video in 4k@15fps, 2.7k@30fps, 1440p@48,30,24fps, 1080p@60, 48, 30, 24 fps, 720p@120, 60 fps and also at lower resolution with higher frames per second.
I'm currently using a 2009ish Macbook Pro with about 2gb ram and 2.33GHz, to edit footage, using a combination of GoPro Cineform Studio and iMovie (on OSX 10.6.something). This only really handles footage up to 1080p@24fps, or 720p if I want a higher frame rate. Anything above this resolution/fps results in glitchy playback, requiring the original files to be compressed (which kinda defeats the purpose of shooting in high res).
So I'm looking at investing in a new iMac. The current base model is:
    2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
    8GB (two 4GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M with 512MB
My question is, what kind of video quality will this spec handle? Will increasing to the 2.9GHz (or 3.2GHz) model make a big difference?
If anyone has any general thoughts or experiences on editing GoPro footage on their iMacs then feel free to share :-)
    Cheers

This is not restricted to iMacs. My MBP HD failed for utterly no reason last year! Unrepairable, had to buy a new HD.
The extended warranty is a joke, it should be included for free. Particularly on a product that has no reliability history. If I'm spending that kind of cash I wan't something to at least be guaranteed to last longer than a year.
I have been loyal to Apple since 2003, but I am losing faith. I would pull a spec together for a PC for video editing, if I didn't have complete and utter hatred for Microsoft products.
    Rant over :-)
Hard drives faile because they are mechanical devices that have finite lifespans. You are making an assumption that they are supposed to last forever, and they don't. I have replaced failed external hard drives for non-Apple products (since they dont' make an external hard drive) on numerous occasions. It happens.
And why should Apple offer an extended warranty for free? The industry standard is 1 year or less, and for about 10% of the price you can get it extended for two years. Now if it were some lame, useless extended warranty, I might agree with you. But it's the world's best customer service and warranty. I've only purchased the Apple Care for my Mac Book Pro's, used it once a long time ago, and because they no longer manufactured my particular 17" MBP they gave me a very enticing option of a replacement because the 17" had a blown up video card. Let's just say that basically paid for all the Apple Care warranties I've ever purchased.
I'm not too worried about the reliability of the new iMacs. I think some inexperienced Apple users are saying things that just has no evidence. If there's going to be a problem, it'll show up fast, and you'll be reading about it here.
I'm sorry that you think this is an expensive purchase. But you have reasons that you want a Mac over other generic devices to do your thing. You might want to check the refurbished store. And because you're not a "pro" video guy, I think you'll be all right with even the lower end iMac, but you should get a high speed external hard drive, if you don't upgrade to an internal one.
