Video on my iWeb created pages

I have tried several different methods/codecs of video loaded onto my site using iWeb. I've tried mp4, wmv, flv and mov. None of which seem to be viewable to anyone not on a Mac. Can someone please tell me why or what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks!

I added the video by dragging it into the page and resizing it to a larger scale. I'm not sure about the people who have been trying to view it and their system capabilities. I do know that some of them are graphic designers and animators and would like to hope that they've got QT installed. But I guess that's kind of my question in a nutshell. Is iWeb taking the video in whichever format I place it, even if it's a wmv or flv, and then turning it into QT? Because that has been what I've assumed but can't figure out why. It does give people the Quicktime question mark even when it was the wmv version.

  • Configuring the browser window title for an iWeb-created page?

    Hello all,
    How do you customize the text that appears in the browser window's title for an iWeb-created page? (e.g., at the top of the browser window where it says "Apple - Support - Discussions - etc."). I had assumed that the the name I designated for the page via the Inspector would be used as the browser window title, but instead iWeb is using the first line of text within the page itself.
    Thanks!

    You can do it with a HTML snippet with the following code:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    parent.document.title = "name you want to appear at the top of the window";
    </script>
    It takes about a second or two to replace the original text as can be seen in this test page.
    Put the snippet box off somewhere where it won't overlap on any other element. It is invisible on the web page and in iWeb until you click on it. I had to do a Select All to find it just now to get the code.

  • Cant view iweb created page on a mobile device

    i created my page and can view on my computer with no issues but if you try from a mobile device it states it is under construction? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    I believe that iWeb uses flash, which is okay on a computer, but you can't get flash on an iPhone, which is why your site would display as under construction.
    If you only have one page, then why not re-build it in another application that is actually fully supported and is being regularly updated, which iWeb is not - is has not been sold or supported by Apple for the last 3 years at least and does not use the most up-to-date technology.
    Take a look at the other alternates out there such as Rapid Weaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express 7,  WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.
    You can download trials of most to see if you like them before you buy them.

  • Printing iWeb-created pages on PC's

    I recently created a website for my husband, using iWeb. I encountered no problems in creating or publishing the site. I have printed the entire site on my iMac from the Internet using Safari. Pages have printed just as they appear on the net and as I created them. Several different friends that have PC's have tried printing some of the pages. The pages appeared normal on the screen, but the printouts were incomplete. Only the first sheet printed, and in one case that sheet had a menu with slanted print, and in another case the entire page had slanted print. It was unreadable. I don't see what I can do to fix this. Is it a compatibility problem? Can my friends do anything to their print settings to correct the problem? Should I send this question to a different forum?
    Thanks --

    The reason this is happening is related to how iWeb pages are rendered. Not everything is in the same HTML file. In fact, the style information which is probably responsible for your problem, is located in a separate .css file. I don't think this information is available to the printer when you print the page. Frankly, I am impressed that you are able to get adequate printouts from Safari even!
    But as long as you are printing okay from Safari, you could print to a PDF file and then have a link to this PDF on your pages for people who want to print them. Kind of a hassle, I know. This would be the easiest way around the problem, though.
    Another way of doing this would be to relocate the CSS information back into the main page HTML files. This requires editing of your pages. Here's a thread from Michael Wong who has done this for some of his pages...

  • How to edit non-iWeb created pages?

    I have a personal website that was created using another app. Is it possible to import this and edit it using iWeb?
    If it is, it's not readily apparent.
    Thanks.

    iWeb uses a package called a domain file to store your website information. You can "publish" this to a folder but you cannot reverse this. In other words it can't import or reimport data. This is one of the applications's shortcomings.
    You would have to rebuild your existing site in iWeb.

  • Errors when loading iWeb created pages

    I edit my iWeb-site at home on my Mac and as I go along I check it in my Firefox browser,which always seems to be fine. However, at work I check it on a Windows/Explorer cpu and it is always distorted out of recognition. I've refreshed the page and tried emptying the temp internet files. Nothing seems to fix it,does anyone else have a similar or the same problem?

    Never answered, problem was CSS related

  • Trying to publish iWeb created pages on a 3rd party webpage server...HELP!!

    I recently purchased iLife '06. My questions pretains to iWeb specifically. I have been laboring for hours trying to publish one page that I made to a third party web page server with absolutely no success. I am currently trying to upload my page to freewebs.com via the upload service they offer; would using FTP make a difference? Do you know of a free web page server that works with greater compatibility with iWeb? (i.e. not having to convert .png files to .jpg or .gif, etc.)

    Does your provider allow ssh/scp? I'm a UNIX admin, so I typically do all this stuff from a shell or via scripts that I run. But this is very easy, IF they allow scp.
    - Save iWeb to a directory (for the sake of this example, I'll say "~/sites"
    - Open up a terminal
    - Change directory to the sites directory
    cd ~/sites
    - Run the scp recursively
    scp -r * [email protected]
    It'll ask you for your password, then it'll transfer all the directories in "sites" recursively (i.e. all the file and directories in each directory).

  • Video on an iWeb page

    Hi, I know how easy it is to drag and drop a video onto an iWeb page. I believe it uses QuickTime as the player. Is there a way to get a broader reach with the video though? For example, Mac users will have Quicktime so they would be able to see the video on the site by default. But what about those users on *that other OS* who don't have QuickTime. Is there a way to have the video use the default player (or maybe even embed a player into the site itself) such that site visitors won't have to download a plug-in or anything, which might turn them off right off the bat?
    Thanks.

    Any video format requires a browser plug-in be used to display it.
    Flash Media requires Flash Player. Windows Media formats require Windows Media Player. Real Player formats require Real Player and QuickTime formats require QuickTime Player.
    iWeb writes page code to use QuickTime. It's installed on all Macs and has been downloaded a half a billion times by PC users. It's bundled with iTunes for PC.
    You could make more than one version of your file and hand edit the iWeb page code to include them or "link to file" so they could download the file.
    Probably not worth the trouble once you investigate.

  • How can I add a link to an external page to the iWeb created navigation menu?

    I want to add a link to a Wordpress blog to my iWeb created navigation menu.  Dream Host is hosting my site.

    Here's a JavaScript that inserts a link in the navbar
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
              theNavUL = parent.document.getElementById("widget0-navbar-list");
              // insert a LI before the current list of li's
              TheLi = parent.document.createElement("li")
              TheLi.innerHTML = "<a href='http://www.wyodor.net' title='Wyodor&#39;s Homepage'>Home</a>";
              TheLi.classname = "noncurrent-page";
              theNavUL.insertBefore(TheLi, theNavUL.getElementsByTagName("li")[0]);
              // append a LI to the current UL list
              TheLi = parent.document.createElement("li")
              TheLi.innerHTML = "<a href='http://www.wyodor.net' title='Wyodor&#39;s Homepage'>Home</a>";
              TheLi.classname = "noncurrent-page";
              theNavUL.appendChild(TheLi);
    // -->
    </script>
    Paste the code in a HTML Snippet.
    Edit:
    See it in action (the More and Home links are added this way) :

  • Trouble Creating an iWeb "Hub Page"

    Have been away from iWeb for a while, but now need some reminders on how to do a few things which I can't seem to find the commands for, but which I'm assuming should be relatively simple -- and that assumption is probably my first mistake!
    The Project: Am needing to create a kind of iWeb "Hub-Page", which basically consists of a header, title graphic, etc. (that part's ready to go), and then four "poster-frame" images (let's say sized roughly 320x240), each of which is a link to either an Aperture-published Gallery (but one which is "invisible" to my other Galleries); an Aperture-published web page; or an iWeb-created Photo and/or Albums page.
    In an ideal world, it would be great if each of these poster-image hyperlinks could be mouse-skimmed so the visitor could preview the contents before actually activating the link -- but I'm guessing that may still not yet be possible. What I definitely DON'T want is the automatic, never-ending "slideshow" effect I see when I try using the MobileMe Gallery widget.
    So, my general questions are:
    1) If using the MM Gallery widget, how do you simply disable that auto-cycling preview effect? (Surely there's an option for at least that much somewhere -- like the animation controls for a My Albums page.)
    2) Also, how do you get the preview thumbs to fit within whatever image frame size you've set, rather than the ugly default whereby they get arbitrarily cropped when their aspect ratios and their horizontal/vertical alignments differ from that of the image frame?
    3) And is there an equivalent way to link "dynamically" (i.e. with the mouse-scrubbing ability) from iWeb to an Aperture-published +web page+ (as opposed to a Gallery album), or even to a separate iWeb-published photo page (one which is either part of the same overall site, or a page from a separate site)?
    4) OR... (if the answers to 1-3 are basically "it's 2010, and iWeb is still glued to coverage of the 2004 Summer Games in Athens"), should I just forget about widgets, and mouse-skimming, and simply drag in four representative images, make each a hyperlink to whichever MobileMe Gallery, Aperture Web Page, or other iWeb page I desire, and be done with it?
    And if the answer to #4 is a firm "Yes", is there any way I can still have a uniform navigation bar across the top of each page, allowing for quick flipping between them? (...in other words, to have these various Galleries and individual photo pages -- each with their own unique URLs -- all appear within some kind of frame *when accessed via this new iWeb "hub page" I'm creating*... or will the visitor always have to click Back to the hub-page in order to then go to one of the other pages represented there?)
    Hope that made some sense -- any guidance on any of the above will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John B.

    So basically you're saying you do not like the default features of iWeb, MobileMe Gallery and all that, and you actually want a custom website. If that's the case, the short answer is: design it yourself. But it requires study, effort, finding solutions, practice, finding alternatives and more study. It's called webdesign. And for the most parts, you gave the answers yourself. So do what you want.
    To be fair -- and perhaps my original intent wasn't clear -- I was really just trying to get clarification on a few of those iWeb, MobileMe Gallery, and related-app defaults, especially the current extent and limitations of their configurability. I stress "current", since any application default -- and whatever options exist to change its parameters -- is obviously a constantly changing and ever-evolving process. One version's "sorry, no way" scenario is often the next version's empowering new feature.
    For instance...
    1. Create the webpages you want to link to.
    2. On the hub page add the four images.
    3. Hyperlink the images to the pages you created in 1.
    Which is indeed the Plan B scenario I outlined in item #4 of my original post, and which is essentially what I did in fact end up doing.
    That original post was primarily an attempt to see if my Plan A scenario was an iWeb possibility yet (as I mentioned, having been largely away from the app since the previous version). I figure it's best to check these forums first before sending off more suggestions and feature requests to Apple Feedback, since it sometimes happens that the capability I'm seeking has in fact been implemented, and I'm just not looking in the right place.
    And there's always a very grey area between configuring and customizing, especially in the area of web design -- iWeb itself being a good example. For all its easy-to-use, pre-defined templates (and thank goodness for them), iWeb does in fact also allow for a great deal of website customization in many areas. There are certainly a number of things of which it's now capable, which if proposed in the days of version 1 would have merited the response: "you're asking for a custom site -- learn how to code and design it yourself".
    Much of what I'd like to be able to do is just that -- nice if available as an already-impemented feature, but not essential, and certainly not something I could justify spending large amounts of time learning how to achieve manually. Especially since this morning's non-configurable default is this afternoon's Feedback suggestion and next Tuesday's exciting new feature.
    (Okay, maybe next month's.)
    But as for any unrealistic expectations, my only true annoyance with any current default is when it seems arbitrarily limiting -- case in point being the automatic slideshow preview feature of the MM Gallery widget, which apparently comes with absolutely no "Off" switch. To me that just makes little if any sense, and runs counter to the general spirit of user-friendliness we've come to expect in our Apple apps, whether consumer or pro level. It's as if certain kinds of links (say to any external page) automatically included an engagingly cute musical intro, and there was no option to disable that default. It might be a fun feature, even a very cool one, but to make it mandatory, with no way to NOT have it enabled? I'd say that's a default that clearly needs to be changed (as in: made optional).
    So would still love to hear from anyone who may have found a way to do this in iWeb '09 -- failing which, I'll definitely be adding that to my next batch of iWeb Feedback notes. Only question will be: whether to label it a Feature Request, or a Bug Report?
    (BTW, for any humorously-challenged readers, that last question was meant as a joke.)
    Thanks again though to Wyodor for taking the time to respond.
