Video on the mac, the answer is 42

ee my previous post
Well the encoding with forthytwoplus finished, it took 1 hour and 9 minutes , not as good as my best time of 29 minutes on the pc.
But:
the finished product is beutiful h.264 video, which blows everything else a way. I can't believe the quality, 23 fps at 250 mb. it looks as sharp as the purchased lost episodes.
If you own ipsp already the upgrade is only 10.00,
http://ipsp.kaisakura.com
someone should tell these folks that progress bars shouldn't increment by 50, I paniced when it said estimated second pass 17 hours, than in 5 minutes it dropped to 20 minutes.
again 1 hour of video encoded to h.264 in 1 hour and 9 minutes, not great but acceptable.

When 42 scans the Video_TS file from the DVD that has multiple episodes on it, it only shows one Title, and a Chapter range of 1-7.
Actually the "Video_TS" is a folder. Be that as it may, it will likely depend how the disc was made. Some discs are divided into multiple tracks rather than a single one. Some of my older DVDs have multiple tracks each of which contains a single episode consisting of several chapters. On the other hand, most of the more recent discs seem to contain only a single track with each episode merely being a given set or group of sequential chapters.
I suspect the former will show up as multiple "titles," whereas the latter will show up as a single "title" with a very large number of chapters. As I am not an expert in these matters, I cannot really give you a definitive answer other than to say, think of a "title" as merely being logical divisions of the media program. In the former case these logical breaks coincide with physical breaks in file content (like the physical pages of a book). In the latter, these breaks may or may not fall on a physical division of some sort and are merely the program content between to arbitrary "markers" no matter how many physical pages they may cover.
Another way to think of a "title" might simply be to consider a title as a sequence of programming material which has a definite start or entry point and a definite end point which returns you to the menu. Most discs today give you the option of watching a single episode and returning to the menu, as well as, the option of viewing all of the episodes in order and returning to the menu after the last one. Each individual episode would likely show up as a separate title with the combined collection of episodes showing up as an additional title whose length was roughly equal to the sum of all the individual titles.
In either case, it should be easy in Forty-Two to select either a sub range of chapters on a "title" which represent a single episode or select all chapters for a given "title" if each title represents a single episode. Since a preview option is available in Forty-Two, it should be simple to determine under which scenario you will need to work for any particular DVD.
Hope this has not confused you. Best of luck...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 doesn't show up under devices like the Apple TV 1, to send video and music to the Apple TV you need to use the Airplay Option which appears in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • How should I best import HD Videos from the new iPad to my mac without loosing video quality?

The new HD video on the new iPad is awesome, but it can eat up a lot of memory in no time. I would like to know what is the most recommended way to export my ipad movies to iLife on my mac without loosing image quality, so i can free up space on my iPad.
If I use iPhoto I notice that the file size of the video from the new iPad is a lot smaller then if I use iMovie to import the same video.
Example: I import a 53 second video from the new iPad to iPhoto and the imported file has a file size of 143 MB in iPhoto. (iphoto save the video as IMG_0048.mov)
I import the same video to iMovie manually and the imported file size is 843 MB in iMovie. BIG DIFFERENCE. (iMovie saves that same video as clip-2012-03-20 16;13;08.mov)
Now to really be confusing: I go to Image Capture program and locate the file manually on my iPad and is has the same name and file size is what is in iPhoto.
So either iMovie is making the File a lot larger when it imports to an event, or the file I'm looking at is actually the iPhoto version that I get because I sync with iPhoto.
The second issue that I have is that now I have 2 videos on my hard drive: one in iPhoto, and one in iMovie for a combined data storage of close to 1 GB.
I would like to be able to import ALL my iPad recording into iPhoto and then delete the video from the device when done.
But if I loose video quality, I'm not happy about that. Secondly, by importing video from my iPad into multiple iLife programs, I'm creating duplicates with sometimes different quality. Any suggestions? is there a setting in iPhoto that can do all this for me?
    Robert

Don't use iphoto to deal with movies. it's not really meant for that. use Quicktime or iMovie to work with your videos

When using my MAC desktop, when I try to play a video on the Apple Homepage I just get a spinning wheel and it says "missing plug-in".  What's the issue?

Yep. I installed Lion this morning. Open Mail. All is good. Went to video on the Apple's homepage and my whole computer froze up. I couldn't even shut down the computer properly. I just had to shut it off and restart. :|
Although, no "missing plug in" prompts were coming up for me. Just a frozen (brand new) iMac.

I have inadvertently infringe copyright on facebook and they have subsequently barred me from uploading any more videos.
The question I need answered is ( and not able to find the answer on any of you help pages).....
Do the following have free copyright to publish on facebook and U Tube?
    1.Garage band sounds?
2.Slide show...Sample music and Theme music?
3.iMovie...iMovie sounds and iLife sounds ie.Medal Ceremony and Memorial etc?
I note one can publish to shared net places directly from iMovie so one assumes these are copyright free for non-profit making and non-comercial use.
It is impossible to contact apple direct. No email address. We put our selves at risk without this knowledge and like applemac, facebook will not communicate direct. Will applemac please take responsibility for copyright/the above that they are all too willing to sell to us but not support us with that knowledge.
I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.2 (2009 bought in 2010)

Thank you Klaus1.The large font, I copied and pasted from my mail box.I'm visually impaired...not to a huge degree but it helps to use the large font.I believe you are right about the copyright on the imac stuff but if facebook decide otherwise, you have to reply electronically to their challenge. If you can't provide a reference directly from the copyright owner then they remove the video.I believe this is a programmed response and no human is involved which now makes it impossible for me to get my video uploading restored. They detect added soundtrack automatically and then challenge. There are many others in the same boat and facebook will not communicate. They have various discussion sites on which I have left messages including Mark Zuckerbergs own facebook but I don't think anyone from facebook ever reads them.I intend to start a second facebook which I can use purely to get my videos uploaded as a lot of my friends enjoy them BUT don't want fall foul of their programming again. If only iMac would put something on the net to this effect.I think it is so unfair that with modern technology it is impossible to contact these large conglomerates personally and receive an email response.I tried emailing [email protected] but I got a failure notice. If you have any ideas on how to get verification from apple direct, I would be very grateful.Thank You.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that isn't fully working. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

Is this happing because the external is formatted to PC and not mac?
    Yes that is correct.
Will I need to get a mac external hard drive if I wish to continue to save my documents like this?
If you no longer use a PC you could format this drive for the Mac. However be aware that formatting a drive will erase all the data on it. So you would need someplace to copy the data off this drive to while you did the re-format and then you could copy the data back.
You could get another drive, format it for the Mac and copy the data to it. Then re-format the original drive and use it as a backup drive. Always good to have backups.
Post back with the drive type and size of the current drive, if you are doing backups now and how and if you still need to access this drive from a PC.

  • I need to transfer a mac iMovie video to the camera roll of my iPad, is this possible?

I have a MacBook Pro with iMovie, an iPad 3 and a PC.  I took video on the iPad, created a movie on the Mac with iMovie and now I want to save that movie back to the camera roll in the iPad so I can transfer it to the PC and share it with others on PC.  Is this possible?  How else could I get this video on my PC?
I can not email the file it is too large.
I am at the office an unable to connect iPad or MacBook to wifi for any cloud sharing.
    Thanks,
    Mike

When I first read the question I thought, "How can (s)he not know how to do that?"  But before I answered with what I thought would be obvious, I looked at iMovie on my iPad and realized it's not so clear.  So here it is.
Go out to the home screen and select Projects at the top of the screen,
Tap on the project you want to export to the Camera Roll,
Select the icon in the middle which looks like a box with an arrow pointing up [^],
Save Movie is your next selection,
Choose which resolution you want to save the movie in,
You can now find it in your Camera Roll.
I'm very glad you asked actually because I tried exporting a movie I shot in 1080p in the lowest resolution, 320p, and it still looks great--I mean like YouTube great, not Vimeo great.

  • Getting video from the Iphone 4 to the mac

I took a rather large video on my Iphone and now I need to get it to my mac. I've tried uploading to mobile me but it's taking a zillion years. It's wayyyyy to large for Iphoto and I can't get my phone to show up in Imovie. On the page about Iphone 4 it says you can upload video to your Mac or PC but doesn't say how. Please help!

How large is your movie, when you say it is too big for iPhoto? The last time I uploaded movies, it went to iPhoto, but they were 3 minutes or less. Just now I uploaded a 22 minute movie to iPhoto. Have you tried uploading your movie into iPhoto? Mine was about 1.9 gig.
I also tried to see if the movies could be directly imported into iMovie, but was not able to see anything which would allow that to happen.

  • The best Mac MTS Splitter-Editing/splitting AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos successfully on Mac

I have recorded a long video with Sony HDR-CX700 Camcorder, but there are some parts I would like to cut off. I once thought a video converter is a must for cutting videos. But I search for a long time , found may spliter and converter just for windows, no MAC. Yesterday, my friend recommended me try Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac. Not only can help me  frame by frame cutting/splitting AVCHD without re-encoding, but also can help me convert mts to Apple ProRes and  AIC  codec for Final Cut Pro/ iMovie.
I think should have many users need a program that allows for  (frame by frame) cut AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos files. If you are looking for any frame accuracy solution to do with the AVCHD videos encoded in MTS format on Mac,  Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac is the best choice for you. This is the first Mac software which can help HD camcorders users to realize frame by frame editing/splitting AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos successfully on Mac.
Here I would like to demonstrate the simple steps to cut AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos files without re-encoding on Mac.
Step 1. Load AVCHD MTS videos to Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac.
    - To load AVCHD videos from camcorder
Connect camcorder to computer with USB cable, and run Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac, you will be asked to follow the wizard. Otherwise, click the Camcorder button to load camcorder videos.
You can choose to backup the videos to computer or just import videos. Here we just select Import to add videos from camcorder to the program.
Step 2. Add MTS files for split with no recompression.
Click the Add movie button, and a movie for lossless output will be created by default. Select the MTS files you would like to cut mts from the Camcorder tab, drag and drop to the movie.
    Step 3. Split/Cut AVCHD video.
From the timeline, you may notice the vernier, which is used as time pointer. Click on the Vernier, and move to the timeline you want to cut, and click the "Split" button to cut the video. You may also click the Split button when the video plays to the point you want to cut.
Then click on segment you want to cut off from the timeline, and then click the Delete button next to the Split button to remove the unwanted part.
Step 4. Export videos without conversion.
Choose Export in the main interface, and click the OK button to get videos without recompression. You will get the cutted/splitted AVCHD without quality lost in a few minutes.

I hear good things about ClipWrap. The other good one is Voltaic HD  from Shedworx.
I suggest that you read their websites and choose the best one for you.
I think they have demo versions.
If you import directly from your camera, you don't need these.
Also, for future reference, you can use the Create Camera Archive feature on the Import screen. This will save your AVCHD files exactly as they are on your camera, but it will also preserve the metadata from your camera so that iMovie can import it later. It is a good way to save the contents of your camera at its original size and full quality.
When you import AVCHD into iMovie it is converted into Apple Intermediate Codec for better performance, but it will be a larger file size because it is less compressed.
With ClipWrap, you have the option to keep the file at its original size, but I would not recommend this for performance reasons. (But you can try it if you have a powerful Mac).

    Thanks Tgara.
Its funny. So far the responses have been 50/50 on this question. I even asked two seperate Apple Store employees here in NYC, and got two different answers! One said yes, the other no.
    Argh!
I know from watching the keynote speech about icloud and iOS 5 that you will be able to cut the cord between the pc and ios devices like the ipad. No more need to sync them via a cord. So will that mean i would then be able to load video directly to the ipad via tha cam kit connector from my ipod? Also i wonder if/when Apple will allow HD video from on Apple devices like a canon dslr to be able to transfer to the ipad via the cam kit connector AND be able to EDIT that footage in imovie for the ipad. Speaking of imovie for the ipad...i hope it gets an update soon as well.
Anyway....with the macbook airs getting updated next week with thunderbolt and new sandy bridge chips....i may just get one of them instead of the ipad 2 for editing video on the road. Still...i prefer surfing the web experience on the ipad. Grrrrrrr. **** youuuuuuu Apple!!! Lol

You can share songs, but if there is DRM protection on the song, it will not play on the other device unless you also transfer the rights to the other device. You are getting into the problem of music piracy.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Mac?
Export your Timeline content to a .mp4 file, using export settings which have been customized under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the export's preset.
See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and .mp4 category. The exported file is then uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
If you post the properties of your source video and project settings, I will suggest the settings for the Timeline content export to file saved to the computer
hard drive for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
