Video on the Nano

So how about that new Video iPod? Does anyone know if they're developing software for the new iPod, just like they did with the nano? For example, people with 1st generation iPod Photos could download the new Nano software to create phonebooks, calendars, and everything else the nano can do. Can't we assume that Apple is considering to do the same with the iPod Video software? Let me know if anyone out there has info. Thanks!

Who knows? I'm just trying to make the best of my nano. You do have a point about the LCD; but what the ****? It would be kind of cool to be able to carry a whole TV season in that one, little tiny bit of iPod that we know and love as the nano. Not to mention, what about those with the original iPod Photos? Wouldn't they appreciate a nice software update?

  • Is there an exstension for ipod video to the nano

I got the nano so it could play video but a very nice person told me no theres ipod video so i was wondering if you can get an exstension to the nano to play video
    thank you

You could try and return your Nano and get a 6 generation ipod (with video capabilities) if you really want video playback. Apple only accepts returns within 14 days most others withing 30 days.

  • Would Ipod Video hurt the Nano sells?

I ask this because Apple released the Nano not long ago, and now, they are releasing the Ipod Video.
Lots of people seems to be jumping in into the Ipod Video and wanting to sell their Nano.
What I am wondernig is, do you think Ipod Video is a successer to the Ipod Nano? Or are they in a seperate market that attracts different people?

Yea. I guess you guys are right. Apple does know what they are doing.
I would much rather have the Nano too. I never carry all my musics with me. I just carry the ones that i like the most and 4 G is more than enough for that. And I would never watch video on that thing. LOL that is what my labtop and TV is for.
Nano is perfect for me cause itz soo small and convienent.
Ipod Video, although smaller than the previous Ipod, is still very chunky compare to the Nano.

  • How can I display the photos and videos from the Nano to Altec's iMV712

I am trying to display photos and videos from a 3G Nano to larger display on Altec Lansings iMV712
While I know I can view it from the cradle, I was wondering if a TV Out would work?
Has anyone managed to get this to work?

Jim VanLeeuwen has already given you the answer, but (for your future reference), when I saw your comment -- on an RSS feed -- that "The Apple help site is useless" I went to the Support pages and in the search box at the top, entered, "transfer photos from iPhone to Mac".  The top result was the one Jim VanLeeuwen offers.

  • What format do videos for the Nano have to be in?

I have videos that are already in MP4 format that will not upload to the 7th gen nano. They are not high def cause they were taken with a phone ... is there a converter out there that I DON'T have to pay for. This is ridiculous that the kid such an amazing gift and they can't use it due to all the proprietary #$%@& you have to go through just so they can use it.

All of the encoding parameters supported by the 5G iPod are on the tech specs on the Apple site:
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html
See the row "Video Support" about midway down the page.
On the Mac, I've been using Handbrake to encode videos to MP4 for the iPod, works great. There's an article or blog entry somewhere with all the details, but unfortunately I don't have it handy.

  • Why is Apple not supporting Firewire on the new Video 60g or the Nano

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable Firewire support on the new Video IPod or NANO. I cannot believe that Apple has released this product with only USB support. I am at 1 hr to upload 1000 songs out of 9000. Absurd.
Is there an update or a way around this.

I'm a big fan of Firewire myself but I guess it's just a lot easier to switch over to USB 2.0 as the standard.
You're using USB 1.1, that's why your transfer rate is so slow.
Do yourself an enormous favor and set your iPod to Manage Manually in iPod Options to avoid accidentally Auto Updating your iPod with USB 1.1

  • If I load a video on a nano to give out at a business conference can recipients see the video when they open the device? Iwas told it will wipe when a new user opens the device.

If I load a video on a nano to give out at a business conference can recipients see the video when they open the device? I  was told it will wipe when a new user opens the device.

No, it will wipe it when they try to connect it to a computer and set it up under their own Apple ID. When they turn on the device the first time without connecting it to anything they will be able to see the video.

  • The sound doesn't play when I watch videos on  my nano 3g

I can import the videos into itunes (mpeg), and then converting the selection for an ipod. I then put the video onto the ipod, but when I go to play it from the nano, the sound doesn't work. please help.

It's an encoding problem: iTunes doesn't like multiplexed mpeg video. Doesn't matter if you convert them or not, the audio will still be messed up. I recommend using a 3rd party video converter (like Nero Recode) that can handle all types of video (mpeg/wmv/mov).

  • A video appliance for the Nano

About a month ago, I read a review of a device, either currently on the market or due to be released this spring, that one could slip a Nano into and if you had movies stored on it, wiyld play them on a screen the size of an Archos PVR. I was impressed.
Since then I have looked everywhere to find the link or any reference to the device, to no avail.
Has anyone else seen this device reviewed or any reference to similar type devices?
    Thanks

The Nano is essentially a flash drive and that is the part of the Nano that the accessory requires. The cool thing is that the Nano fits into the device perfectly and the interface on the device can access the video files stored on the Nano and play them thru the device's circuitry and display. Which has a 2-1/2" to 4" screen, by the way. But when you are using the Nano as an audio device, you have a sleek, trim, simple, light, IPOD, and you leave the video part behind.

  • The Nano and Video

I had a 2nd gen Nano and yesterday I bought the 5th gen Video iPod. There is nothing wrong with the Nano, I just wanted the upgrade. I plan on using the nano at the gym can I still sync the nano when I need to?

Yes, see these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.

  • Do 5th Gen iPod video & 3rd Gen Nano have exactly the same dock connector?

Its just I have a 5th Gen, and have just bought the wife a 3rd Nano.
I have a speaker dock that I use for my iPod Video, can she use it with her new nano?
Also just bought a iPod clock alarm, it states it supports iPod video, but only says Nano (no gen description) so is this going to be the same connector to?
I know I will need a dock plastic adapter thing, which you get it the box of the Nano so am ok there
    cheers

ah I see, so physically they are the same, and wil lfit, but it may be a different matter if they actually work
Ive just put it on a speaker dock I have, and it works fine, wil try it on a iPod dock clock alarm I have as well soon
cheers, I just didt want to push it too hard on incase it was actually a physical different size

  • How do you delete video you've made on the nano

Is there a way to do it with the nano itself or do you have do do it with the computer?

    Hello mjwilly,
To delete video footage captured using the iPod nano Video Camera:
    1. On your iPod nano, go to Videos > Camera Videos.
    2. Highlight the video footage you wish to delete.
    3. Hold down the Center button.
    4. After the contextual menu appears, select the Delete option (or the Delete All option if you would like to erase all your captured footage).
    5. Confirm your request when prompted by highlighting the Delete or Delete All option and selecting the Center button.
These instructions are from this Apple support document.

    Hope this helps.

  • GOOD NEWS FOR THE NANO!!!

"They claim current iPods can already play video (but this is disabled) — which means an updated firmware might enable movie playback, something not infeasible given the power of the iPod hardware platform."
http://engadget.com/page/3 -- scroll down to "Think Secret thinks we'll see a video iPod Tomorrow" and read the update!!
This is good news for all those who may be regreting buying the nano. (I don't, it's flash-newer technology, hard drive skips)

    Yeah,
Even though the screen on the Nano is small, I would still welcome video playback. I don't think copying full DVD's onto the Nano is practical given the storage size unless there is a way to compress video/DVD content to be loaded on to the Nano. You would be able to hold maybe 1 or 2 full DVD movies plus your music library. The new video iPod and regular iPods have much larger storage for things like full quality audio and video.
I welcome the ability to play Quick Time content, though.
Have a lot of video/movies in QT format and the sound would probably be great over headphones.
I do not regret buying a Nano, though. The Nano is an impressive piece of technology and still a good-looking device for playing any audio/video/image content.
I hope apple does release a firmware updater to recent iPods for video playback.
This would just make the Nano even more slicker device.

  • IS there any way at all to get video out on nano?

Is there any way AT ALL to get video out from the nano?
Meaning hax and 3rd party equiptment is okay!
I just need to be able to do this.
    thanks~vin

Nope, it will void your warrenty, and will brick your iPod. I did it, and made a paperweight from it.

  • MAJOR PROBLEM ABOUT VIDEOS IN IPOD NANO VIDEOS!

    i neeeed help !
i added mpegs videos to iTunes Library but when i tried updating my iPod nano video , it wouldnt and it says it has to be converted so the videocan be used for the iPod and i did but when i played the videos on the iPod nano Video there was no sound .
HOW IN TTHE WORLD DID THAT HAPPEN?
anyone has answers for me pls. ?

There is no such thing as a nano video.
There is a fifth-generation, full sized iPod capable of video, but there is no nano capable of video playback.
What ipod do you have? The fact that you say it does play video indicates that it's a fifth-gen. If that's the case, what version firmware are you running? Go to SETTINGS > ABOUT to find out.
    Cheers!
