Video or photo's in backing up data

I have 2 500GB external drives for Backup for a 250 GB intel imac. A friend of mines said i should put my videos on one drive and the photos on the other drive. He said this help the computer not get confuse. Is this true?
If so it seem I would need a 3rd frive to get a complete copy from time machine and super duper. I might be making this too hard.

Tanks Daddypaycheck and Thomas. Thomas, you're right about my misconception. If I understand you right I will need 2 external drives holding the same information in case one fails. Is this what you are saying? I was stuck about this idea. because i didn't know if I could use these drive to readily assess my music and picture, like I do on my main drive or would this be a headache. But I need to get this data off before my HD locks up.
I posted this thought in another post earlier, because I didn't know just how to attack this problem. I know I need to back up. I now know I need at least 2 drives, which I have. I'm not sure they are big enough, but it a start.
I just confuse on how to set it up and assess the data. Do I just make a complete copy of my drive and be done with it. Then take the movie, music and photos off my main drive, but some how let itune and the other apps store directly to the back up drive. ? my document are small, so they can stay and be back up. Is there a step by step guide how to do this anywhere?

Viewing photos and videos (mixed) in one application, sorted by date?

I'm "converted" Windows user, using OSX now for 3 years. I'd never like to switch back to Windows, but there are 2 things that still are a problem for me.
First and main problem: How can I view all the fotos and videos (of last saturday, the last evening, ..) in one single application, sorted all by date, no matter if the file is a photo or a video, without having to exit one program, open the video file(s) and switching back again?
just cmd+a cmd+o opens me the first photo with possibility to go to the next one by hitting the right/down arrow key - perfect. the problem is that i get hundreds of quicktime windows and i can't view the right video after the photo taken before the video was captured and continue viewing the other photos after viewing the video.
gramatically shurely everything but correct, but i hope you understand what i tried to explain :P
is there any way to get what i want and is automatically done in windows if i select some video / image files and hit enter?
Second is that i would like to switch the selection in dialog boxes with my keybord and accept that selection by hitting enter, but i think that can't be solved by anyone but apple whitch makes it not as important in this thread..

Now i have just got to figure out how to minimize the size of the iPhoto Library
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like app, music and videos. Thus, you wll have to resync those back to your iPod.

It was tele tech. I couldn't open my Page Numbers etc. Frist tech chat idiot - following dumping few things in bin, asked me yo upgrade to Yosemite. But the problem still persists. This morning I was asked to do it via telephone and like yesterday, after wasting 20 min, I was put to this apparent Tech Queen ( my foot!). She eventually decided to reinstall Yosemite asked me to connect my external drive while I connected to her. She was moving cursor asking me to move files and delete and I followed her like a dummy. It took 3/4 hours and she called me 3 times once the lengthy process was completed. I suspected from the beginng for the fact that why should be asking me to click all my backup from the very beginning! Eventually she said I deleted... Or someone else or may be my children ! It was a blatant lie. I run my small business from home and I was simply staying in front of the Mac whole day! Children were at school. Then she said I must have used another computer! I only have laptop and the iPad. I will talk to their manager first thing in the morning. In the mean time please let me know as to how can I transfer photos, music etc back to my laptop from my Iphone and IPad .? I am will connect to laptop as I am worried the new BLANK iPhoto may supersede iphone/iPad stuff? Will it? Please let me know. I am not a very tech savvy person. Syncing from pc to iPhoto imbedded in iPad... I spent hundreds of hours naming jpeg files/pics, and they were ordered properly ((per my naming, like 0001 bla bla.jpeg, 0002 blah blah.jpeg, etc.... They were syncing perfectly in order, until last SW update... Now, still in right order on pc, but last sync scrambled them all back to date order on iPad after sync... Any ideas?

Aperture and Mobileme syncing is really "hit or miss", unpredictable. Especially after a manual arrangement of the order of photos within an album. And selection of the "key photo" is also hit or miss. Sometimes it sticks. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sticks for a bit and then reverts back to the 1st photo of the album.
It's ironic that one of Apple's motto is "it just works"! In this case, it really doesn't work!

What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing. Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card

If the MBP is already connecting to the network via the TC it is just being difficult. (It is incredibly difficult at the moment as apple have some built in bugs in Lion and ML).
Use finder and go, go to server. Type in the actual TC name. Thusly..

If the MBP still cannot find the TC.. reboot it.. it should then work.. it is like olden day electronics .. sometimes you need to give it a swift kick to get it going.

Videos can only be downloaded from a Shared Photo Stream on a computer. Once downloaded, they can be synced to your iPhone via iTunes.
Can photos and videos be saved or downloaded from a shared album?
Yes. After photos are shared, anyone who can view the shared album can download and keep them permanently. Videos can only be downloaded to a Mac or PC. On an iOS device, videos are streamed from iCloud and can't be downloaded.
On a compatible iOS device, you can save photos to your Photos tab or Camera Roll.
In iPhoto or Aperture for Mac, you can add or copy shared photos or videos to your Library.
On a Windows PC, you can copy photos and videos from a shared album to any folder.

I'm not sure about older versions, but in Pages 3.x (OS X 10.9.x) select File > Revert To > Browse All Versions. Hopefully there will be an earlier version that you can "revert to".

MacBook Air does not turn on but does this damage it's hard drive ? Can I still save/ recover videos and photos from photo stream?

Well on the Air models there really isn't a traditional hard drive, it is a SSD/Flash drive that is integral to the system and can't really be removed or connected to another Mac for retrieving of files. So yes if you take it in and they have to replace the Logic board, The Hart Of the System, then more then likely all your files will be gone.
That is one reason Apple includes Time Machine for Backing Up the system including your files. If you never used Time Machione then eventually, At Some Point In Time, you will Lose all your data. That is a fact of all computers.

As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. How to create audio, video, and photo in a list view format

I'm creating a webstire entirely out of Flash using CS5 for a paranormal investigation group. In the past, using a Website Tonight template from GoDaddy had placed either an audio, video, or photograph with text above each item discusssing the content. Now, they would like this type of feature in the Flash website. I'm new to Flash, but seasoned in many other Adobe products ... not that this helps ... much!
Anyways, the website is looking great aside from this one set back, so I'm hoping someone out there can give me a helping hand. I'm willing to purchase a third-party template, but to incorporate that into our Flash file, seems daunting.
AUDIO
We need to load an audio that can play, pause, rewind, loop, and stop at the very least.
Then have text describing the situation around the audio.

New audio will be added to this section every week or so, and all the components need to scroll as the screen fills up. When adding new audio, we would add the new audio and text to the top of the list, pushing the remaining audio files down.
VIDEO
We need to load video footage with all the button features needed to play, stop, etc. I have found adding video quite easy, but to get the player to move with the text as the frame it is contained in scrolls down is another story. How do you do that?

As mentioned, building a custom application can be tricky, especially if you are not very familiar with Flash.
So you want a Web page with an audio player and selection list at the top (or where ever) and then a video player section, along with its playlist, and then at the bottom of the page you want a photo display area... Is that correct? and the scrolling you mentioned is because the page needs to be long enough to hold all 3 components? is that right?
Have you instead considered just using 3 different frames, one frame for each component and simple buttons to jump from audio to video to photos?
Or, skip the scrolling in Flash and let the html/css take care of the scrolling, just like any normal Web page. Just make the .swf as long as needed to display all your content.
Since you are new at this type of a project, I'd suggest you start small, take the project in steps... just build the audio player... then the video player... then your photo slide show..
Only after you have 3 working moduals would you but them together into one .fla
And yes, learn to use xml for ALL the data, audio, video, and photos.... very easy to update without having to re-publish any of the Flash.

But learning how to incorporate xml into your Flash project is very important in a project like this. And then broken down into 3 components, it's really not that tough to build a project like this.
