Video Organizer

Does anyone know of any programs which are meant to organize videos?  By that I mean an iTunes/rhythmbox like interface for videos.  You have a library of videos, tagged with metainformation to find and play the videos you want.
I havent had to search for music files in their folder structure for so long now, I was wondering why we still have to for videos.  If nohing exists, do you think it'd be useful?  Maybe I'll give it a try to program something up.

Hi,
Here are a few video tutorials about the organizer:

  • Large Video Organization

I am trying to organize multiple large videos into a tutorial.  And by large i mean in excess of 6 hours long each.  They were shot continuously all day of a projector screen, computer monitor, or randomly picked up to go look at something else important and were always left on so that the people shooting it could be involved in the demo and not have to worry about loosing anything important going on off screen (which comes down to someone walking up to the camera and saying notes to it fairly frequently while being off screen).  Needless to say there is alot of dead space, which can be easily removed, but i mainly need to chop it up into a bunch of short clips and piece them together and reorganize them to form the tutorial.  Idealy i would be able to put 5 different flags throught the clips whenever certian subjects come up, the final movie will be broken down to 5 sections, and then cut them appart from there.  However i can't seem to find a time efective way to do this and i am knew at the software to boot.  There is the "Edit Original" option where one would think that you could add clip markers, but that just opens up windows media player and plays the clip.  There are also all of these nice tags, but i don't know how to add them to a specific time in the clip.  There is also this hand auto analyzer that splits the clip into a much a sceens that tags can be applied to seperately, but i can't find how to split clips into scenes manually to do this.
Could some one please point me in the right direction because out of all the bells and wistles in the software there has to be something out there to do this process, or a better way to go about it.
    Thanks

First and foremost, you'll want to make sure this video is in a format you can work with in Premiere Elements. And that is vital -- because, when you're dealing with this much video, if you complicate things by having a non-standard video format, you're likely never going to get it to work.
So, if your video is in any format but DV-AVI, you might want to consider a different editing program. Premiere Elements runs deep but it runs narrow -- which means that it's very powerful but it works with a very narrow range of formats. So, if all you're doing is cutting out some footage and creating a series of DVDs, you definitely might want to look into a program that's much wider and maybe not so deep.
That may seem strange advice but, trust me, you're going to be doing many hours of work on this piece. And I'm sure you can't afford to deal with software chokes and incompatibility annoyances.
So what kind of camcorder did this video come from and what format is it in?

  • Two Questions, 2 ipods one comp, and video organization.

Two questings That I have. One, my wife might be getting another IPOD and just wondering how it all works with hooking up two ipods to one computer. My friend tried hookin his up to mine and it just said something about erasing all he has and putting my library on his. So is it possible to have two different libraries, for two different ipods, on one comp? SECOND question. Is there anyway I can organize the Video area a little better. maybe make another folder or section, you know one for podcast, one for movie trailers, one for featurettes instead of having them all in one spot?

I think you have to go into itunes settings and select update only checked songs or manual update only. Sharing the same computer while managing different music lists between two or more ipods is do-able but a pain. I recommend keeping a seperate computer for each ipod whenever possible. And never delete the music on your computer as that's your first line of backing up defense.
This link might help your folders question but I haven't checked it out yet:

  • Multiple Libraries for Video running at the same time on one PC

    Hi Everyone -
I want to clarify this is for VIDEO files, not music for my 6 ATV's on the network.
Problem: I have well over 1000 VIDEOS in my iTunes Library, and I am wanting to have multiple libraries availible at the same time; not just whichever the computer has open.
We have several atv's on the network and I would like to take my video organization one step further; instead of scrolling forever in the atv menus for the video you want; I could make several libraries all availible at the same time.
    Such as:
    Kids Library
    Workout Library
    Parents Library
    etc
This in turn would shrink the primary library and have less videos to sort by.  I know how to create the Libraries, I just dont know how to have them all running at the same time.
    Infastructure:
Windows 7 Ultimate with Drobo B800FS (16TB of storage) all connected to Cisco 3660 Gig switch with multiple atv's hardwired back.

iTunes can only open one library at a time. If you have multiple computers, or virtual machines, each could be serving a different library.

  • How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?

How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?
(Like iPhoto does with photos) But not one at a time! If that is not possible with IMovie, can iTunes do that?
I want to import my videos from an external drive to my Mac Book Pro 10.8.3. Thank you so much for your time and patience.

    Hi Walter,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will give you some insight as to how iMovie organizes video:
    iMovie '11: Organize your video
    Organize the Event Library
When you import video from your camera into iMovie, you name the video (called an Event), and then by default iMovie lists it in the Event Library by the date it was recorded.
To separate clips in the Event browser by the days they were recorded, choose View > “Show Separate Days in Events.”
You might want to do this if you have any Events that contain video that was recorded on more than one day. For example, an Event could have video recorded on New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day. To find specific clips more easily, you could separate the footage by date.
I hope this information helps ...

  • [FREE Script] Organize Project Assets

Hi all, just wanted to pass along a notice of a free script I just posted up on my channel. Organize Project Assets, it does just what it says. It's a basic organizer for those crazy project files that get handed to you in an absolute mess. It may not fix horrible naming conventions, but it just might give you a handle on what's in the project and help narrrow down what comps to look into. Anyway, it's free and it's located here:
    http://provideocoalition.com/dtorno/video/organize-project-assets-free-after-effects-scrip t

I'm sure you can use media manager to do this, but since I've avoided it like the plague since being burned by it years ago, I can't really say how you'd go about it or what the results might be.
The real trick here is to be diligent when working on your project from the start. Set your capture scratch settings to the root of the drive you want and FCP will create a folder for the project. All captures will go there. If yo change that location for any reason, remember FCP will not reset it according to your project, so you have to do that yourself or you'll wind up capturing footage all over the place.
For other materials I usually create a folder on the same project scratch drive called "project name" elements. Here I place all other material related to the project... titles, graphics, photos, music etc. That way it's all in one place and should you ever need to move it you can simply do so and then reconnect media next time you open the project.
I'm sure someone will help out with some media manager suggestions.
    Have fun

  • Cannot successfully collect files on AE CC on Mavericks 10.9.3

Cannot successfully collect files on AE CC 12.2.1.5 on Mavericks 10.9.3. The files are on a server and all living in one folder. When testing I do not have this error collecting files that are on my main drive or RAID. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was experiencing this continuously. Maybe you have a different issue, but this may help.
My problem was that AE was always alerting me about missing footage, obviously the problem was not about missing footage, because in the Project Panel there was no missing footage (note that if this is happening After Effects stop the entire process, so copying the “missing footage” will not solve it. Also: When the Generating Report Only checkbox was active this error never occurred.
I figured it out that the real problem was about file names too long. Online I found some articles and discussion confirming that the problem should be because of characters file names, paths, folder structure, special characters, etc.
A clue come from the point Unicode conversion for robust support for characters (in file names, paths, etc.) of this old article: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/04/whats-new-changed-after-effects-next.html
So to recap try to ensure that in your Project Panel none of the file names is too long (I don't know which is exactly the limit), is containing special characters, and try to simplify your folder structure.
In details I solved it following this steps (obviously the first three steps are to reduce, clean and simplify the project if it has a lot of files, folders and/or if it’s a complete mess):
Reduce Project selecting just the really needed compositions to get rid of what I don't need
Run the Project Cleaner script (http://aescripts.com/project-cleaner/) to get rid of redundancies and for a deep cleaning
Run the OrganizeProjectAssets script http://provideocoalition.com/dtorno/video/organize-project-assets-free-after-effects-scrip t - to simplify the folder structure
Manual double check to the file names
    Collect Files
    Hope this help.
Edit: Be careful when reducing and cleaning projects with expressions

  • Gnash vs flash

I was thinking of replacing the official adobe flash on my arch project with gnash, if for nothing but security reasons. Is this worth it?
what are the pros and cons of each, and what won't I be able to do in gnash?

Flash is a terrible package for those who care about privacy and security. I don't have it installed on my Host machine, only in Virtual Machines. It's really a shame we need this filthy package in 2014. Fortunately, HTML5 seems to be kicking, at least you can see 99.999999% of the videos on Youtube. Sometimes companies like VEVO ("Very Evil Video Organization") will try to force you to use Flash, but for those videos you can install a package in Firefox named "Youtube FLASH to HTML5", assuming you care for your privacy enough not to use Chrome or Chromium or any Google product, along with any Microsoft/Yahoo/AOL/Twitter/Apple/Facebook product or service. That also includes Android.
For all I remembered, Gnash didn't work on websites like Facebook or askfm or any major websites. I assume that's mostly due to the fact that supporting multiple players would cost a lot. And that could be a limitation on the Gnash side.
But hey, I'd also assume you don't use Facebook if you really care about your privacy If you don't bother with Facebook then don't bother with Flash too, just make it more secure: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/ … er.284280/

  • I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files.  It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5.  I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them.  I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.
    Thanks again for any help!!!!

To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

  • How can I organize home videos and photos in ipad

I don't have a mac or pc, just the new ipad.  I'm planning to buy a camera card reader adapter so I can load my photos and videos directly from my camera card to my ipad.  But then how do I organize my home videos and photos in my ipad into albums?
I saw the photo folder app does essentially what I want but does it treat videos the same as photos?  I didn't see anything about it being able to organize videos.

See the follwoing and the links in the following:
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
Yuo will likely need a computer app to convert the format to one compatible with the iPad. I use the Free HandBrake app. It has an iPad preset.

  • How can I organize my files in files panel;images, videos etc?

I am begining to have a lot of files in my files panel. I have a folder for images but when I put the images there dreamweaver does not know where to find them, even though I specified this when setting up.  I am now begining to get a lot of videos and would like to organize the files a lot better. any ideas?  thanks

If you already have links to your images and videos, etc., and you want to rearrange them, do it in your Files Panel, not your computer file manager system. Most of your links will remain appropriate, even if you make (in the Files Panel) new folders to store different types of files in. You can drag and organize to your heart's content in the Files Panel.
You will still want to check your links, as Gary states, but the actual reorganizing...when done with already linked files in the Files Panel...will make the checking less painful and require fewer re-linkings.
In fact, the only html file that actually NEEDS to remain at the root level is the index.html default file. You can safely store the rest in subfolders. If you have many, many pages, you might consider organizing them into folders and adding index.html pages to each subfolder. Not a copy of your main index file, of course, but 'departmental' default files. That system will also make applying javascript "breadcrumbs," such as those of Kaosweaver, quite simple, as it uses index.html filenames for breadcrumbs.
You will want to carefully keep files that are auxiliary to Flash and Video files with their Flash and Video files, and be sure to test the links and locations of those files thoroughly. But there's no real reason you can't move them.

  • How do I organize my iphoto library on my iphone?  My iphoto library is 60gb of photos and 80gb of video.

I purchased the 128gb iphone 6+ specifically for the reason of having my entire library of family photos and videos on my iPhone.  Given that combined, my iphoto videos and photos equal over 140gb, I will not be able to fit them all on my new iPhone.  I would like to have all of my photos on my iphone, which current works.  But how can I organize my iphoto videos on my iphone?
I have taken the time to organize my entire iphoto library by putting all of the content into events.  In the iTunes tab "Photos", I select to sync all photos and events from iPhoto but I leave "Include videos" unchecked. If I check "Include videos", then I won't have enough room on my iPhone for the 140gb of iPhoto content.  I created an event in iPhoto call, "Choosen video" to grab only those videos that I want.
If I choose in the iTunes tab "Photos" and select the option sync photos from "Select albums, event, and faces...", I will still want to include all of my events for all of the photos of my family and also select the event "Choosen video" that I created.  But that "Choosen video" event will not have any content because I did not choose the "Include video" option in the Itunes "Photo" tab.  It seems that Videos are either all or nothing.
Is there a way that I can have all of my photos in events syncd to my iPhone yet only sync certain videos so that I do not run out of room on my iPhone?

Is there a way that I can have all of my photos in events syncd to my iPhone yet only sync certain videos so that I do not run out of room on my iPhone?
You could import selected videos to iTunes, and then sync the videos from the iTunes library.
Or move the videos, that you do not want to sync to your iPhone, to a different iPhoto Library.

  • Best way to organize photos and home video

Looking for the optimum way to organize photos and home videos. Goal is to have all devices have equal access to all the media. Just as important is for this to be as easy as possible to maintain and use.
Have an iMac with iTunes and iPhoto
Have multiple iOS devices with different family members each of whom take photos and videos with their devices
    Have multiple Apple TVs
iMac will be the hub with wifi synching
Right now about 30,000 files probably 1000 are videos (and growing)
I don't do any editing of photos or videos
Current set up is through iPhoto. I am importing all images not using the reference option. This worked fine until we started taking more videos which made for a large 200gb iPhoto library which barely loads even with 16gb ram.
I want to use iPhoto not iTunes because I keep everything organized by event, that includes photos and videos. And I don't want 2 separate organizing options to keep track of.
Most of my library is also available outside of iPhoto, I have a back up so I could use the reference feature of iPhoto which would mean a smaller library. However we use photostream on all iOS devices which has the feature that automatically imports into iPhoto. So I don't have to worry about those photos - it's easy. But then i would have some media copied into the library and some referenced. This doesn't work for videos so I will need to copy them.
I have a copy of iPhoto library manager software which could solve the excessive library size. That's cumbersome because I have to sync the correct library with the iOS devices and also make sure photostream is In the right library. I have only used this software a little so I could be wrong about this solution.
I appreciate any ideas that might work. Of course let me know if I am missing something, I am sure I am.
Would Aperture be a better solution? Some other software?

1 - do not change to a referenced library with iPhoto - it has many problems and should not be done - if you switch to Aperture it is ok - Aperture handles referenced libraries fine
2 - iPhoto does not load your entire library and while 200 GB is large it is not giant and is not causing you an problems - if you ave problems please describe them and  will try to help with thme -it is not libary size - My library is 263 GB and I have 8GB of RAM and there are no issues
3 - not sure what your constraints are but for me having all IOS devices logged into iCoud using the same Apple ID work best - the downside is that we all see the same things - which is our desire and I think yours

  • Elements 12 Organizer unable to preview .mts video files

I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1. I have the newest version of Apple QuickTime (7.7.6) installed.
I import .mts video files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 for organizing along my still photos. I am absolutely certain that previewing the video files in Elements Organizer used to work fine at least before I upgraded from Elements 11 to 12. Maybe it also has been working in Elements 12, but I cannot tell for sure. Now, instead of a preview, I get the error 'The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed'. If I add one of these files to an Premiere Elements video project, however, the file plays nicely from the Premiere timeline.
I have tried downgrading my Quick Time versions all the way down to 7.3, with no result.
Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?
