Video out supported?

Does the new nano support video out? If so, how?

So it's essentially video out with either the $50 dock connector-to-composite out cable, or the $50 dock connector-to-component cable? IOW, no SVHS out option (like the video out on earlier models and the older docks) -- and no HDMI option rather than the bulk of a 5-plug (3 video, 2 audio) component setup?
The video out is a nice feature of the iPod, but it kinda chaffs how you have to pay $50 for the cable now, when the 4th Gen classic iPod could output video from the headphone jack with a $3 third-party cable. It's worst still how you can get composite OR SVHS out from a Mac with a $20 adapter -- http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A -- but just the cable for the iPod costs you $50! I might pay $20 for a similar iPod composite/SVHS adapter, or maybe $50 for something high-tech, latest-and-greatest like a iPod to HDMI adapter -- but $50 for just a low quality composite out, or $50 for a sub-optimal bulky 5-plug component connection, just seems nuts.
At any rate, has anyone actually compared the composite vs. component output? Since it's 640x480 max resolution video (i.e. no HD), does the bulkier component output buy you any serious extra quality?

  • IPod Touch - video out using older iPod Composite cable

OK so the running commentary about video output from the iPod touch is a little confusing. It seems that the only video out supported by apple seems to be from their own component/composite cables. The older iPod Photo came with a 1/8" headphone A/V composite cable that allowed me to connect it to my TV for photo slide-shows with a soundtrack. Can I use this same cable to connect the IPT with my TV or am I now forced to purchase the $50.00 30-pin cable? I cannot find anything that is definitive, and I have not tried it yet. After spending a small fortune on the iPod I am not excited about having to buy a new cable...
    Thanks

Just the cable - I was using "dock" in the sense of dock connector (which is how the non-USB end is referred to), not the Universal Dock product.
Here are links to the Apple Store for the component and composite cables. These also include a USB cable for power.
You're guessing correctly - the USB cable (with the dock connector on the other end) that you use for syncing cannot transmit video from the IPT.

my samsung says video out from i pad is not supported. i am connecting with apple dock using hdmi. I do get the audio  any suggestions?

    Jeffrey-
If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input?  I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried.  I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

  • Does ipod touch support video out

Does the new ipod touch support video out to indash screen in car?

Then it's back to Illaass advise; contact the car system manufacturer or go to their support site, see if it supports the iPod 5 or iOS 7 and follow up with whether not iPod 5 supports TV out to a TV via HDMI or VGA adopter. Good luck.

  • HT4108 Is there a way that iPhone 5 can support video out?

  • Will the iPhone 5 support video out

Any word on if the iPhone 5 will support video out

From what I have read after a brief Google session, the iPhone 5 has no viable hardwired method of video output. There are no Lightning to HDMI adapters, only the legacy 30-pin adapters allow HDMI or even composite video output. The available Lightning adapters DO NOT support video output. So, those of us who rely upon cables to facilitate video output from our phones to an external display are just plain out of luck. Thanks a lot for alienating your customers in a new way, Apple! We don't all have the luxury of having WiFi and an Apple TV at our disposal everywhere we go. It is hoped that you are working on a cabling option for Lightning that will allow video out. Why on earth would you tote the "digital" nature of your new adapter and then cripple it by not allowing video output?!?!

  • Ios podcast utility that supports video out through composite cable.

    Hi everyone,
I'm watching some video podcasts (you're right - MacBreak Weekly!) in my car while staying in traffic jams. And I use original Apple composite video cable to send video to the in-dash screen of my Nissan.
There have been some podcasts downloaders in App Store, like Instacast, Downcast, Podcaster. But none of them are able to send video out of iPhone.
If anybody seen one that is able to do that, I'd appreciate a link dropped over here.
    Thanks a lot,
    Egor.

  • Video out from ABC app to my TV

I have ABC's app that allows me to watch their shows. It works fine on the iPad, but when I connect an Apple Composite AV cable to my TV all I get is sound. No video. I have my iPad set to video NTSC but I don't get it on my TV. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Only a few apps right now support the Video Out function... the developer is tasked with making their apps compatible with this...over time more and more will I assume... For now only a few native apps are like the Movies in iPod section or the Keynote App (strangely Pages and Numbers are NOT supporting video out currently)

  • Video out from iPhone 3GS to TV.

Can I use the standard (3 phono plugs on the end) video out lead I already have to view keynote presentations from my iPhone 3GS on my TV/Projector?

    Same problem here.
I can't get any video out of my faithful iPhone 3GS running iOS 6.xx.
I have been browsing Apple discussions for solutions and most of them seem to point out to a faulty Video Composite cable. This is not my case.
I can rule that out 100%.
Old iPhone 3G running ios 3.1.2 works just fine as well as does iPhone 4, with the same cable.
I have tried with a friend's TV and cable and iPhone 3GS and we have identical issues.
(different cables and phones, same issue).
Please note all testing has been done with genuine Apple Video composite cables.
So this points out clearly to a iphone iOS issue combined with hardware.
It appears that starting from iOS > 5.0 video output has been disabled on earlier iPhone models prior to 4.
It would be nice if Apple could issue a Knowledge Base document on the issue as that would save many people further testing and waste of time.
This document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108? isn't really complete enough as it stops at iphone 4.
Has anybody the ultimate answer on this issue?
    Are there any known work-arounds?
    Thanks and regards
    Pieter

  • MSI GeForce 3 Ti200 video out freezes

    Hi!
I was testing the composite video and s-video out connectors. In my properties for the GeForce card i can choose between s-video and composite video, but they aren't automatically discovered as connected when pressing that button.
However when i press apply after choosing composite video, my monitor goes black, but i get no signal to my TV. My computer totally stops responding not even ctrl+alt+del will help. I have to press the reset button.
I downloaded TV-tool which i saw someone mentioned in this forum. It works flawlessly using TV tool using composite video(it takes sometime to switch between the monitor and tv but it works).
So as i understand it MSI's drivers or tool for switching between Monitor/video is broken. I have downloaded the latest drivers and tolls with MSI Live update 3, but it still doesn't work.
I'll be damned if i have to purchase a third party product for something that should work out of the box. I mailed MSI support about this and was directed to this forum, so i wonder if anybody else has this problem and found another solution than TV-tool?
I'm running Windows XP with the latest drivers.
    Mats

Judging from the problems I and several other people on the forum have mentioned, there seems to be a problem with the nVidia 45.23 drivers and video. I get a grey screen with vids unless i turn down the hardware accel to almost nothing. Other people can get vid to show on their tv out. So if you havn't tried an older driver version yet, maybe you could use the good old xp driver rollback in the video device properties.

  • What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring?

What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring? I can't get iPhone 4 video to work on my TV screen
I have just bought an MD098ZM/A (Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter). I am struggling to get it to show a picture on my TV. I know I'm doing something right because the audio is coming out of my TV speakers but no picture on the TV screen.
I have used the same HDMI channel (on the TV side) with the same cable and my thunderbolt port (MacBook Air) without any trouble - and on the same app (BBC iPlayer download then full-screen mode).
Now I note that the packaging for the MD098ZM/A says video-out on iPhone 4 but mirroring only on iPhone 4S. I only have an iPhone 4 (not the 4S). Now if the lack of iPhone 4 support for mirroring means that I can't play video material out to my TV, then in what sense is there any video-out capability at all?
There is only safety and warranty paperwork in the Apple adapter packaging - no help information. And I haven't found further guidance online either.
I do note somewhere online that it suggests that basic non-mirroring video-out (for this adapter) only works with some external TV sets. Any way of finding out which? I'm using a Sanyo CE32LD90-B LCD TV if it helps.
So far not doing very well.

Now found these but have had to give up on this adapter!

  • Video Out from early 2009 Mac Mini

Is there any way to go from one of the video outs on the Mini to a converter of some sort, then to video input or S video input on a TV monitor? I see that the Mini DVI to Video does not work with my version of the Mac Mini. Any other solutions?

The additional pins do little. A DVI-I plug will work with either.
What do you think wont work?
A DVI monitor will work on DVI or DVI-I.
A DVI-I monitor will work on DVI or DVI-I
Dont believe me? Try it ( or read the spec).
    Grant
You commented as to why make the special connector. I gave an answer based upon the original question to this post which is about +_getting a analog composite video or S-video signal to a Mini, NOT a DVI monitor_+.
Apple makes and sells an adapter to provide composite and S-video from the DVI connector of certain Mac models of Macbook Pro and Mac Pro. (I use one.) But since the Mini does not produce the analog signals, the adapter will not work, even if you could physically plug it in to the Mini. So if Apple did as you say and made the computer with the connector to use either a DVI-D or DVI-I adapter, in my example, if the aforementioned person with lesser technical knowledge plugged in the S-video connector to the Mini, they'd be angry that it didn't work. Again to avoid the "Why would Apple sell something that wouldn't work on my computer if it fits?!" type of support calls.

  • Video out from MacBook Pro to HDTV - no solution?

I've had this problem for over a year now and nobody has been able to help me solve it, not even the Apple guys. I need to get the video out from my MacBook Pro (Mini DisplayPort) to my HDTV which is an older model which only has Y/Pb/Pr analogue video inputs. Does anyone know which connectors I can use in order to get 1080i on my TV? My thoughts were MDP to VGA first so that we get an analogue signal, and then VGA to Y/Pb/Pr? Would this work? Why/why not? Please help!!!

See whether this sounds like it might be the answer:
