Video out to tv and monitor adaptors......

how come the video out is different in the new alu imac compared to the old white imac....i had a white flat panel 17inch 1.4ghz model and i bought the white video adaptors for hooking up a 2nd monitor or going to a tv and now they dont fit on the new imac,,,,i got this imac a year ago november and never had to use the adaptors till tonight and they dont fit,,,,what are the adaptors i need now???
thanks for the help....

The adapter you have is called mini-VGA. The one you need for the new Intel iMac is a mini-DVI adapter. The reason they are different is because of an upgrade in hardware. It's a good thing for the picture quality of your display, but a bad thing that you now need a new adapter.

  • How to move all videos out of Aperture and in to iMovie?

I have a MacBookPro with a 240 GB SSD for OSX, apps, etc. and a secondary itnernal HD that is 1TB.
    Remaining space as of today:
    240GB SSD = 130 GB free
    1TB HD = 103 GB free
My Aperture library (managed) resides on the 1TB and measures 139 GB on disk.
How can I effectively "move" all of my videos out of the Aperture library and in to my iMovie library?
My goal is to slim down my Aperture library to be able to move it on to the SSD for better performance. In addition, I rarely find myself referencing or modifying video in Aperture, almost exclusively using iMovie for video.
    Thanks for advice!

With these stats, I would expect that you need to make your Aperture Library entirely Referened, and not any Managed, unless you have mostly video in it.
The process would be to use the Relocate command to move masters from the library to folders elsewhere on the 1 TB drive, and then simply copy the parred down library to the SSD drive in the Finder -- drag and drop will work.
I am not sure the connections will survive, and you might find the need to reconnect to all the referenced files, which is not hard to do, once the library has been moved to the SSD.  You need always a good measure of free space on the drive with the library, as space is used for many housekeeping tasks, including conversions associated with any future updates to Aperture.
The Relocate command will work with either photo or video files.

  • Video out settings HDMI and Component out run at the same time?

Does anyone know if I can get video out of both the HDMI port and component video connections at the same time. Trying to distribute video throught the house on component, and still get HD on the flat panel in the living room. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple says when both HDMI and component are connected, HDMI will take precedence over component. Short answer: no.

What video format are you working with? For SD DV/DVCam, the proper way to monitor the video output is to connect a Firewire capable DV device (camcorder, VTR or converter) to you Mac via Firewire. Then connect the DV device's analog output to your TV monitor. The connection set up is explained fairly well in the FCP user's manual.
Most consumer DV devices will have RCA jacks but you can purchase a BNC/RCA adapter or cable at just about any electronics store, including your local Radio Shack. NOTE: make sure the DV device you choose is compatible with FCP 5.
If you're working with other formats (BetaSP, DigiBeta, VariCam HD, etc), you may need a specialized capture card for your Mac. If you're working with HDV in FCP, I may be wrong, but I don't think there's an option available yet for viewing on an external TV monitor in RT.

  • Using video out as a preview monitor

I recently purchased the vga adapter to go from iMac G5 (non-Intel) to a separate VGA monitor to use as a preview minotr with FCP. However, I'm only able to use my VGA monitor to mirror the desktop of my iMac. How can I change this?
Maybe this is a question for the FCP forum. I will post there as well.

iMac G5 can only mirror the monitor on an external monitor, unless you use a 3rd party app to change the iMac firmware to enable "Screen Spanning".

  • No video out to tv

I have an ipad 2 I always connected it to the tv via the video connectors on the tv red yellow white cables. It worked fine in fact I watched it for about three nights recently. On the third night the video vanished. The audio still comes in but no video. I went to the apple store and they checked the ipad said there was nothing wrong and gave me free new connectors. It is still not allowing video out to the tv monitor. My old ipod 5 will do video out fine. Any suggestions?

I bought the adapter from apple, so I think it's apple branded.
    Here's a picture of it:

apple warrentied it and they actually replaced it the first time I went in and also tested it on their MacBook, they even tested my svideo cord.

  • HD video out from Logic - possible?

I have been trying to find if there is a way to get HD video out to an external monitor from Logic. Tried a Decklink "Intensity" card, wouldn't output HD. I called Aja and Decklink, neither company could tell me if it's possible with any of their products.
Another alternative would be to use a second video card and convert DVI to HDMI (I have two 30" monitors so am already using the two DVI outputs on the main video card), I want to output to a 47" TV monitor for client presentations. In the old days, it was always recommended not to use a second video card with music DAWs because of slowing down the PCI buss - is this still the case with the latest Mac Pro's?

The other thing we've done in the studio when working on films is to use two separate machines. One machine is running ProTools HD and it's the on that plays the video. Use MTC to lock the machines together, you hit play in Logic and hey presto, the ProTools locks to it and plays your video. No reason why you couldn't do this with two machines running Logic. The advantage with using ProTools (HD) is that you can have all of your reels in the one session, one after the other. Then (if your Logic work is properly organized and all of your cues have start points at the correct TC, then you don't even need to change ProTools sessions even once. You can switch between Logic projects (for each music cue) and the ProTools session will happily jump to the right part of the video at all times. This way you eliminate the question of trying to get the one machine to handle everything. Yes it's more of the old-school sync'd up video deck concept, but once you set it up, it's much faster and it works great. You can even route all of your physical outputs from Logic directly into the ProTools inputs and do one-pass (or almost one-pass) striping of all your Logic work to prepare your ProTools sessions for the orchestral sessions. We've done this for a couple of films and it was a very effective way of working.

  • Anyone have sucess to get S-Video out working on iSight iMac (20")

I used the Apple iMac-->Video Out adapter (composite and S) but no luck using S-Video cable (new Monster cable).
    Have not tried composite yet.
As soon as I plug the adapter in the iMac's resolution resets and I have the additional display options in preferences.
If anyone has been successful to get video out going, what settings did you use for the TV Display in preferences?
    TIA

Too bad one has to plug/unplug it to turn the TV on/off. Or am I missing something?
I tried the S-Video direct to the TV and it worked. Before I was trying it to input side of DVD recorder because it runs to an auto-switched input on the TV. Seems one just can't get all the eggs into one basket
Quality was good on my 50" Sony.

  • What should I purchase for video out?

Do I only need to purchase the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to get video out on my iMac G5? Will this same cable work to get video out to a VGA monitor from a Mac Mini Sever as well?

I figured out that I need a VGA Display Adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
in order to video mirror or do extended desktop (with additional software) on my iMac G5. I now understand that these are two different ports (iMac G5 & Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server), so I will need to purchase another adapter (Minidisplay Port to VGA adapter) http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A

    thanks....................................................

The links Harm provided influenced the original build, but on his advice, I re-read them and decided to alter it and bit.
If I swap out the ASUS Rampage for the Deluxe model, replace the Velciraptor with a Seagate 2TB, and the water cooling with a COOLER MASTER, Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (rated Gold by hardwaresecrets), then I can upgrade to the larger COOLER MASTER, HAF 932 Advanced and keep the price about the same.
Given my projected video editing demands, it doesn't seem like the ASUS Rampage MB offers much more than the ASUS Deluxe MB and the latter contains BT and wireless.
Since I do not intend to OC, there doesn't seem to be a great need for liquid cooling, especially with the larger tower case. At any rate, it does feel better not put "liquid" and "computer" in the same sentence!
The Corsair AX850 Gold power supply does indeed seem to be a better choice.
There doesn't seem to a concensus in the all the discussions relating to using a SSD vs a hard drive for the boot disk. However, since boot speed is not an issue for me I don't need an SSD and the Velociraptor seems to a unnessary expense. While I don't need 2TB for the boot drive, they are not much more than the 1TB.
The only question remaining is filtering the air. This machine will be in a dusty (but not dirty) environment. I read Harm's thoughts on air filtering provide in his link, but don't want to go the custom route. These aftermarket filters look nice http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11729/ffi-57/DEMCiflex_Cooler_Master_HAF_932_Magnetic_Du st_Fan_Filter_Set_-_4_Piece.html, but for the cost, I'd rather put another $50-60 into the case and get one with good filtering.
Does anyone have experience with a stock Full Tower with complete built-in filters they have actually used in a dusty environment they would be willing to share?

  • Video-out adapter (to S-video and composite) giving distorted output.

Recently, we had an anime-fest in my dorm, and we used my laptop (12 inch powerbook G4) with my TV-out adaptor, specifically from Apple (I didn't want to chain two adapters together). While it worked, after fighting with it for a while (the second display properties DESPERATELY need a time-out feature to restore previous settings), finally got it to work.
At which point I noticed that, while playing, the entire video would... shimmer, for lack of a better word. Watching the edge, it would distort slightly, constantly, related to what was being displayed at the time. To me, this seems to say that the analog-out processing is rather crappy, but I'm hoping there's either a way around that, or I got a bad adapter. Is there any hope?
This is all related to the composite output, I have no way to check the S-video out. However. I brought my desktop PC down the next time, and used its video-out (x800 pro. I love it), which worked flawlessly, so I know that it isn't the TV's input or the video file.

    *another bump*
Come on, anything? The distortion seems to be predictable, based on what's being displayed. In that case, this could be accounted for prior to anything even being sent to the display, and nullified. I don't suppose anyone has tried?
I know other TV-display adapters have similar issues, but this is larger than most. Something contradictory to Apple's trend.

  • Macbook Pro DVI and Video Out woes..

Hey, this seems to be a known issue although specifics are difficult to nail down. I've had my macbook pro since shortly after they were launched and been using the DVI - S-video adapter since day one, and it's been outputting to all TVs with no problem.
I recently got a nice overtime payment from work and decided to treat myself to an external 24" display, was very pleased with it when it arrived. Plugged it in downstairs, and ran it for a few hours, putting it through its paces - worked great.
Decided to move the whole arrangement upstairs and 'no input signal' said the monitor, the MBP just didn't detect anything in the displays. The built-in display did it's blue screen when the cable was plugged in, so it's definitely detecting something.. The monitor is connected via a DVI-D single-link cable. I've confirmed that both cable and monitor work using a different computer.
So after this happened, I decided to try plugging it into a TV again to see if the S-video out worked and although Displays picks up the TV and everything is as usual, nothing is shown on the screen.
Any suggestions would be very welcome before I get my hammer and remodel my computer!
Anyone else suffering from something similar to this?
    The monitor is a 24" Yuraku YV24WBH1.
    Cheers.
PS I've tried booting from the install CD, two versions of XP bootcamp (one with standard drivers, one with Catalyst, and the computer's old HD with 10.4 installed on it - no joy with any)

    Another update, I did some research and it seems that ATI are cagily admitting to the fact that there might be a problem with the X-series;
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=26586
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=21266
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=25682
You'll notice that ATI tell you to contact the manufacturer of your computer if the graphics are integrated into the motherboard. Like with Apple. Much joy to be had there.
I phoned their technical support and got talking with a specialist who was mystified and suggested 'turning off the airport'.
    Also, it seems that Apple rather significantly "underclocked" the GPUs in their macbook pros;
    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04/19/applemacbook_pro_gpuspeed/
    http://www.maconintel.com/news.php?article=178
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=306024
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=194647
Could be running the GPUs are running on a lower voltage and maybe they're not working right, or the signal isn't stable enough to pick up an EDID? It seems to be quite a mystery. Perhaps the osx86 community will have some tricks up their sleaves for twisting the x1600's arm. Still doesn't explain why the monitor worked that one time.
This probably isn't an issue for anyone who doesn't want to plug their laptop into an external display, but I suspect it's a widespread problem just waiting to rear its ugly head, especially as HDTVs become more ubiquitous.
Anyone else struggling with external display devices, or with solutions, I'd appreciate your input.

  • Video out from G5 to DSR-45 to monitor

I use a SONY DSR-45 to dump footage into my Mac.
I also firewire back out TO the DSR-45 and then S-video to a 14" SONY Monitor to view during editing.
The problem is I lost connection to the monitor. it has to be a software setting as I can play tapes in the DSR-45 and see on the monitor.
I also see the footage on the monitor when I log and capture.
Anyone have a clue which setting in the preferences is the correct one?
    Thanks!
    Jim

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section
