Video out (TV out Locked)

Video out on new nano is locked and can't be changed to on. In the manual it clearly states that this option works, but in reality you can't change this option to on. Can you please check this as this is why I mainly purchased ipod nano 3rd generation.

I think the conclusions expressed in that article and in the subsequent threads have recently come under some question. The truth MAY simply be that some docks and cables are no longer working and it could be that Apple has a bug in their iPod firmware. Also, the new user manuals may have incorrectly documented the methods to turn on the TV output (or there are additional bugs in the firmware).
It is clear, however, that the old/existing Apple AV cable no longer works through the iPod's headphone port (on the iPod classic, new nano, and iPod touch) and therefore you either need Apple's iPod Universal dock or one of the new composite or component cables that aren't as yet shipping from Apple. The status of other third-party solutions seems to be uncertain at this time. However, some are no longer working but that could change with a firmware update for the new iPods. Thus, right now the expected level of backward compatibility seems to be somewhat of an unknown.

this question is about someone's MacBook Pro he newly bought with adapters to get both DVI and Svideo/Composite Out.
He got Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D converter, and a DVI-I to video converter, that cannot be plugged into a DVI-D port. Apple removed the analog capability of its adapter, that's bad. But what's badder is there doesn't seem to have any Mini DisplayPort to Svideo/Composite adapter, as there was with previous generation machines.
How can someone easily output analog video from MBP?

In fact, I recognize that these standards are old, which doesn't mean they're not up-to-date. Similar example, VGA connector is old, but perfectly useful, even in 2009. I recently plugged a 22" LCD with VGA and DVI on the same computer (a bland desktop PC), and there was strictly no difference. Same color depth, same crisp display. Even looking at a corner with a magnifier, nothing was different.
So, changing standards just for the sake of it doesn't make any sense.
Agreed that, as a pro, Apple would like me to buy their pro line, but nowhere in the pro line does an easy solution exists for S-Video and composite out. The solution you posted exists, but is unwieldly and not neat at all, if it doesn't break the Mac's connector under its weight. If a manufacturer can do this kind of adapter, Apple can do it better, and make a bigger profit out of it.
For the adapter you posted, I don't ever buy anything that is not at least Mac+Windows compatible, or at a minimum is open-source, so anyone with programming skills can make something. The manufacturer also doesn't give a clue on how this works. I guess some sort of virtual driver sits in the system as a virtual IEEE1394 port so any program requiring FW can work transparently. Still, incompatible with the OS that most manufacturer ship their new PCs with, poor commercial decision, wether you like the OS or not.
Adding FW in the MB unibody design wouldn't have cost anout $30. Rather, we're talking about a 25 cents chip, a 25 cents connector, which they would have rounded up to $20 and still, that was present in previous-gen MB. After all, they are indeed selling a matte screen on the MBP 17" for $50 more, despite them removing a single piece of glass which may cost, well, let's be fair, $5 to manufacture? That's dishonest. And capitalistically justified.
So far, choosing a Mac for one's needs is no easy task: older white MacBooks have the same power as unibodies, excellent connectivity, top notch transfer speeds, BUT are heavier, as not as ecologically friendly nor do they have future-proof RAM standard. The unibodies are sleekier, easily recycled and will be able to be upgraded in the near future BUT is most likely unable to use current devices and have slower transfer speeds.
For Pro models, the newer ones have great efficiency, much power and flexibility with their dual GPU BUT lost the option of matte screen, although their other pro-oriented monitors still default to matte. Only the 17" has the option. If a pro already finds his 15,4" bulky and with ample reserve power, will he buy the bigger and heavier 17"? Probably not.
I understand that Apple way of doing business is keeping only what's essential with no unnecessary options (I'm looking at you, Asus, with you at least 10 different versions of you netbook). But this time, not everyone can find what he or she wants in Apple's line of laptops, as opposed to the iPod thing, where virtually any possible preference is covered.

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

Video card going out?

i get bars of pixels going across my screen most of the time. They are sometimes black and other times they are multi-colored. Also when i scroll down a page, some times it does this funky thing where it looks like....man i cant really describe it..... i cant get a screen capture of it because it goes away when i click outside of the window
Also, if they are in a window, they will move with that window.
Could this be happening because of the video card going out?

Actually I noticed it first on the upgrade screen from Tiger to Leopard, and it then became progressively worse, even before 10.5.2.
Since increasing fan speed seems to help I don't believe it's a software issue, although software can play a part in stressing (or de-stressing) the video card. If the fans work for you and your iMac is out of warranty you might just have to live with it. The cost of repair for a video card/logic board (from what I'm told) is not worth contemplating.
Also, as a photographer I'm not planning to upgrade to the new iMac because of the gloss screen. With any luck the next generation of iMac will have a choice between gloss and matte.

Keynote video signal drops out

Keynote 4 video signal drops out during presentations where we are switching between two different Apple Computers (one G4 and one Intel). Both machines had previous versions of Keynote on them and over a period of time never had a signal drop out condition. Sounds like new version problem.
Any input appreciated.

I have two laptops each with their video out adapter connected and then cabled to a switch box where the big monitors project the signal of the laptop that the swtich box is set to. Like channel selection. Previous versions of Keynote were never a problem and I mean never. The signal came right through but now with Keynote 4 the signal drops out even tho the laptop is still active and apparently sending a signal through its video out connection. I have to hit escape and get out of keynote and then go back to PLAY for keynote to once again send that signal.

Occasionally on startup my app needs to rebuild its secondary database, so I call db_associate with DB_CREATE set. If the primary db is large the associate fails with "Lock table is out of available lock entries". Both databases are hashes, so I have not configured any special lock sizes as I didn't think I needed to.
What lock configuration does db_associate need to succeed?
I am using version 4.7.25

Hi Ashley,
You should be sizing the locking subsystem with high enough values so the secondary database rebuilds successfully, then run the "db_stat -C" utility and see how many locks, lock objects and lockers did you need to perform the operation and reconfigure the locking subsystem with values slightly bigger than what you needed, so you make sure that you'll have enough resources for the next time you'll rebuild the secondary.
"Lock table is out of available lock entries" means that the Berkeley DB locking subsystem has not been configured for enough locks. For more information, see the "Configuring locking: sizing the system" section of the Berkeley DB Reference Guide, included in your download package and also available at:

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

IPhone, can not get it out of Auto-lock

On occasions once my 3g Iphone has gone into autolock I am unable to use the phone again. I can not get it out of auto lock, I have tried restarting but it maskes no difference.
I often have to ring it from another phone to bring the Iphone back to life, which is rather annoying and I am not always by another avaliable phone.
Does anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix this? Thanks

Audio and Video become increasingly out of sync when watching a movie.

When I watch a movie from my itunes folder (purchased) the audio and video become increasingly out of sync. It is like watching an old Godzilla movie. I am using itunes on a Dell XPS M1530 running windows 7. Does anyone have a solution to this? I am not sure if I have a hardware problem or a software problem.

My friend bought an iphone 4 from Apple store canada for full price but when i get that in Pakistan it turn out to be locked..He also forget to bring the receipt of purchase with him and now when i talk to apple store person he is insisting that he want that receipt no..But my question is why he cant get the information by having my serial no of product..And also that friend of mine will be going back to Canada at the end of march so what should i do ..should send that phone with him to replace it with apple store or what ...Really confused as at that time it will be approx 3 months passed away since he purchase the product in January so will the apple store replace the product with the factory unlocked one ????? No, only that it "appears" your friend purchased a locked phone. Only the carrier an iPhone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking. If you have a locked phone, you need to contact the carrier the phone is locked to to see if they offer unlocking and if they do, what the cost/procedure is. Note: almost all carriers that offer unlocking will only do so for existing customers...i.e...you'd have to first establish service with that carrier. Note also: Not all Canadian carriers offer unlocking.
Considering where you live, your best bet is most likely to sell the phone & purchase another truly unlocked phone.

None of this affects your warranty, although since you purchased the phone in Canada, the warranty is only valid in Canada.

Someone stole my ipod out of my locker @ school and it was on....how can trace it???

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
