Video output dimension troubles in CS4

This is my first project in PPCS4 and I'm having trouble getting an appropriate video output size.  The dimensions of the source clips are 640x480p, and originally only filled a small portion of the frame, with large empty margins around the outside.  I tried scaling up to 299%, which filled nicely, until I realized that the top and bottom were being cut off.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this is becoming very frustrating !!!

What kind of source clip (what is the CODEC) and what are your project settings?

  • Premiere CS4, NO hardware video output aceleration?

All Premieres for Windows, from early ones up to CS3 were supporting hardware acceleration in "video space" for output via OVERLAY or DIRECTDRAW (VMR that is just a bit slower). That allowed to archive very low CPU utilization, very FAST video frame draw and refresh, very clean colours... And possibility to mirror on full-screen devices (e.g. TV, calibrated monitors etc.)
Today I'm testing new CS4(with updates)... And they removed this so essential feature!
WHY!? How could they stop supporting Overlay ?
Do they, in Adobe, think that everybody in industry are so crazy to move to Vista that has no 2D video acceleration?
Do they think it is very funny to catch dropped frames and frame disruptions during playback?
I have not very slow station on C2Q9650 with tons of hard drives and accelerated by nVidia that I love for good YUV overlay support, various outputs and easy colour setup...
And with CS4 I dropped on the level of 90th with buggy S3/Trident video and Pentium-Pro.. The performance so horribly degraded.
ADOBE! Come to senses, bring back 2D accelerated video output to Premiere Pro CS4 ! You are ruining whole experience!

Do you understand difference between 1) clip mixing/effect processing and 2)video overlay matrixing/up-downscaling in native accelerated YUV space?
Yes - CUDA is ideal for clip mixing and effect processing, predominately in RGB24+ spaces.
I personally use OGL accelerated FFT3D filtering via AVISYNTH. It unloads 30% of CPU time for other preprocessing code.
But this is NOT video output mixing/ fast DAC output!
It uses the same RGB GPU RAM space as conventional 2D/desktop graphics uses.
Overlay uses separate accelerated hardware block that works without double framebuffering for scaling, but scales on the fly.
Overlay works in native YUV colour space, what is much faster. And overlay multiplexes output to various display devices via hardware without penalty!
Actually, what was done is SOFTWARE rendering on GPU device. This is NOT hardware accelerated output!
Yes, you can buy a $3000 GPU and overtake $0.001 classic overlay accelerated chip block... with HUGE graphics board which needs regular maintenance!
(and still you'll get some frame phase dislocations on output device. Main DACs are not necessarily field/frame phase-locked as Overlay block)
Bye-Bye notebooks for "field operations"! Welcome oilcan for regular gpu-fan lubrication!

  • Photoshop CS4 video output

Hi, could i get a broadcast video output in Photoshop CS4.
I would to check colors on a PAL monitor, and i have only dv out
    Thanks

You can get Firewire previews from PS Extended already. Please check the online help. If your Firewire ports and the device outputting the video signal to anlaog (your camera or a converter box) are not OHCI compliant, it won't work. the rest is unclear. That's exactly why people use compositing programs like After Effects with respective preview plug-ins for broadcast work or do it in their edit suite in the first place...

  • External Video Output

    Hi,
I'm having trouble sending the image from Color to an external monitor for accurate color balancing. When I go to Video Output pop up menu in the set up preferences, the only option they let me click is "Disabled". It's an HD image to a Sony HDV deck which converts it down to a SD monitor, but IO can do it in Final Cut, so I'm not sure why I can't do it in Color. Any suggestions?
    Message was edited by: jesterhead

You'll need a third party i/o device to handle the conversion for you. If you have a MacPro, the Black Magic Intensity cards (at the low end) up to the AJA Kona series cards (at the upper end) will work. Mid way are the Matrox MXO series of external boxes - most of which will work with an expresscard34 capable laptop as well.

  • Color crashes setting Video Output to Blackmagic.

I just opened my first project in Color. A 60s commercial digitized from HDCAM-SR to Blackmagic 23.976 10bit RGB. When I try to set the Video Output to the correct output, the program crashes.
I have reason to believe that my Decklink HD Pro card installed in the PowerMac Dual 2GHz system I'm running on is incompatible with Color. Is there a list somewhere of what cards are supported? According to the Silicon Color site, Final Touch 2k, Apple Color before it was purchased, there is a compatibility list and my card is not on it. However there have obviously been some minor changes done.
Anyone else have trouble with this?

I'm using a Decklink HD Pro card in a Dual 2.5 G5 without a problem. Here's what I'd do to try to fix your problem (before trying to hack the prefs):
    • Download the latest drivers and Uninstall, then Install the BM drivers and restart.
    • Delete Color's prefs, then open Color and select the display. If it works, Color should remember the output settings from then on. I'd also re-do the Send to Color just in case the previous Send was corrupted.
Also, some common problem around here seems to be people running two display cards and people not turning off the Video Desktop in the Decklink preference panel. Both of these things will kill your setup.

  • 8 video outputs working simultaneously

    Hi,
I’m preparing a conference with a huge screen projection; It’s 60 meters width and 5 meters hight. This space demand six projectors working simultaneously; and every projector will cover a 10 meters width; the sixth part of the screen.
I will buy a MacPro and my question is the fallowing:
Can I have 8 video outputs with this specifications?
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon + 4x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
    Are the screens organized like 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 working as a big large screen?
Thanks a lot for the help
    David

Theoretically this will work. The hardware itself will perform the task you've set it. Obviously the higher the resolution the less the likelihood is things will work smoothly.
That being said you'll possibly need some special software. Basically in OSX you can assign each port to be an 'independent' screen and arrange them in literally any configuration you want. Remember though 'maximizing' an application will only take up 1 screen (you can manually resize the app to cover more than one screen of course). I haven't looked into it but there may be a software product that easily lets you maximize applications across all your screens at once with a simple click of the button. You may have better luck in windows running in bootcamp finding said application / tool but I am nervous about how all those cards will perform under windows.
You may also find it cheaper to do something other than a Mac Pro with 4 cards. It sounds like you only actually need 3 cards (60 meters wide with each card putting out to 2 projects each of which covers 10 meters). Otherwise you can build a PC with Matrox Triple Head cards and just get 2. Lastly, your dimensions will be a little off. There aren't any natively supported resolutions of 2:1 but instead 16:9, 16:10, and 4:3. Basically I'm saying you'll have something a little higher than 5 meters if you do each projector to be 10m wide.
    Good luck!

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum shows all green, but no video output

Ok, here goes - I hope you guys can help me...
I built a new setup last night, using the following components:
    AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition 2.5 Ghz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core
    K9N2 SLI Platinum
    OCZ Reaper HPC 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (2 x 2GB)
    eVGA GeForce 9800 GTX (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready
Seagate IDE Hard Drive 120GB (not sure of model)
Windows XP Home Edition SP2 installed
Antec Earthwatts 650 - voltages follow:
                 Min        Max
    +5V       0.2A       25.0A     ±5%
    +12V1    0.5A       22.0A     ±5%
    +12V2    0.5A       22.0A     ±5%
    +12V3    0.5A       25.0A     ±5%
    -12V      0 A         0.5A      ±10%
    +5VSB    0 A         2.5A      ±5%
    +3.3V     0.1A       25.0A     ±5%
I build the board, mount all components, then power on - board LEDs cycle through pattern, then land on all green. There is no video output at all during this process. I tried the PCI-E card, the onboard DVI, the onboard DVI without the video card installed.
During boot, I hear a beep that may be a long (sounds like a faint "power on" beep), and then two fainter beeps in quick succession. They don't seem to be in connection with one another.
During the boot, there is also little to no activity from the hard drive. The board reaches all green, then I hear the CPU fan spin faster, and the hard drive activates, then the board flashes to all red, and the reboot sequence begins again.
I've tried removing memory, seating just one stick, and swapping out for a second stick. The fact that the board reaches all green makes me think that everything is seated properly and functioning, but the fact that there is no video output (hence no way to access BIOS) is obviously troubling, plus the incapability of booting.
Questions - the 8-pin ATX power connection had a cover over four of the eight pins - why is that there? I connected an eight pin to the connector, should I have left the cover in place and just used a four?
I realize that using an older hard drive from a previous build is not the best idea, but I'm hoping it shouldn't be a factor this early in the boot process.
I have not flashed the CMOS yet - would that have any effect on the boot process? Again, getting to all green is promising, but the subsequent return to all red is... not.
I've looked through the forum as best I could, but didn't see any issue where the board got to all green, and then backtracked when starting up.
Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated...

    Hello!
Don't worry about the hard disk for now. You will need a new installation of Windows, but that would be next step.
9850 needs the latest BIOS version. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1443&maincat_no=1
Use the MSI forum tool. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=116721.0  Impossible of course! Ask the store to update BIOS for you, or find an earlier, simpler compatible processor friend.
The single beep is a power-good signal. The two fainter ones are probably USB things attached.

  • K8N Neo4, no video output, confusing D-Bracket result.

Hay all, hopefully someone here can help me. I'm getting pretty desperate
Moved my computer to a friends house the other day and when I got there it wouldn't give me any video output. The D-Bracket stops at "Assign resources to all ISA."
First thing I did was reset the cmos. To no avail.
I have also tried some suggestions I found in searching this forum.
That is, try diff memory slots, without memory, without VGA, etc.
At this point I am working with the mobo sitting on an anti static bag, and with only CPU plugged in. This is where I am getting really confused.
With only CPU connected. The D-Bracket hangs on "Intialising keyboard controller"
With only CPU + a single RAM module connected. It hangs on the ISA one.
What I would love to find out is actually what is at fault here. The ISA error seems to be the most vague of them all  Should I be getting video on the screen before the ISA error? Unfortunately I don't have anything I can switch in place of my key components as I upgraded from an athlon xp system.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi guys, still waiting on that old pci card to test out, my friend assures me it was posted yesterday, so it should be with me soon.
Im unsure what the BIOS revision is, though I havent updated it since I bought it last year. I doubt I can find out without getting some info onscreen first :s
As for my RAM and PSU, the RAM is some cheap Kingston I think, PC3200, its been a long time since I bought that stuff. The power supply is an Akasa Paxpower one. Its fullspecs are here.
If only it were as simple as reseting the bios though. Alas I have tried it several times :P
A little history of the system itself also, it has been sitting on my desk the entirety of this year. In fact when it broke was the first time I've moved it in several months. The aformentioned components have been running together with 2 sata drives. 1 120gb, as well as a 240gb one. Also a single DVD drive. Ive never had any trouble before now.

  • How connect a 27 cinema display to HP Pavilion with VGA video output

how connect a 27 cinema display to HP Pavilion with VGA video output

If it is a thunderbolt version of the apple 27" display, you don't.  The TB displays can only work with a TB source.
I also think you are out of luck with the mini-displayport versions of the apple 27" as well.   This would imply converting an analog VGA output  to a digital input of the 27".  I suspect that there is not enough data supplied by VGA for that to work and I do not believe any adapters exist for this.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • Vga or dvi to video output to NTSC TV viewing

GEAR: I have a G4 dual 1.25 (silver double doors) with an ADC and DVI output in the back.
OBJECTIVE: I need to go from that to an NTSC TV so I can see what my edits look like.
NOT SURE: I have seen the Apple adapter (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/7200505/wo/0K4TK pkMz7f922WszZYxFQMUy31/1.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.2.3) but it says it is for the MAC mini and the G5 only... does that mean it won't work for me?
OPTION B: Is getting a video card with an RCA or S-video output a better idea? If so which one? I am using both the ADC and DVI ports for two monitors, but would nuke one if necessary because I have to get this TV viewing capability up and running.
OPTION C for CANOPUS: I have also thought about the Canopus ADVC 100 or 300 so I can capture video from sources other than my DV Sony DSR-30. Right now, I have to record everything (everything that isn't DV) to DV on the DSR-30 before turning around to send it via firewire for capturing in FCP. Would the Caopus ADVC 100 or 300 also solve the TV viewing problem as well?
    THANKS: in advance

Firewire to a DV/analog converter to your NTSC monitor. The only way for DV.
the DV/Analog converter can be either a dedicated converter (eg Canopus), a DV VTR deck (eg Sony DSR-11) or a camcorder.
the other options are not what you need.
    cherios,

  • TV (video) output from new nano looks very good!

Just a comment for those who may be wondering how the video quality on the new iPod nano looks when output to a TV. I have one of the old iPod AV docks with the s-video port and the new nano seems to work fine with that combination (using a standard s-video cable between the dock and the TV). Thus far I'm really impressed with the video quality, I can't see a single problem, the color is good, the quality and sharpness is as good as I've seen from any iTunes Store content, and as far as I can tell the frame rate is fine (no stuttering, skipped frames, or problems with audio sync). I'm amazed that such high quality video can come from such a small device. If it continues to look this good (after viewing more content and after more testing) then I think Apple may have "hit one out of the park." This thing could turn out to be the most popular iPod yet (if you have any interested in video and still want a small device).

I just found out that the video out (TV) on the new nano supports video playlists so you can create playlists for back-to-back display on the TV. Not even the AppleTV will do that (even though the latter has been a highly requested feature for the AppleTV since day one). In fact, if you can do without the on-TV menus you may find that the nano is a better video output device than is the AppleTV (that is, the menus system on the nano doesn't appear on the TV output).
Also, I just competed a few hours of video playback to my big-screen TV from the nano and I'm still impressed. No video problems at all, looks very good considering the quality limitation from the content that is currently on the iTunes Store (limited to standard definition, no HD movies, HD TV, or HD music videos as yet).

  • Video output failure

    I have a 2008 black MacBook, a Mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter and a Mini-DVI-to-"Video" adapter (AKA a Mini-DVI-to-RCA-and-S-Video adapter). The -to-VGA adapter /was/ working fine.
After I got the -to-video adapter I was having some problems making it work. A few places said I had to set it to 50Hz (which makes no sense as NTSC is 60Hz, but anyway), but that option wasn't available to me. I poked around, and apparently made the video out go completely insane. Now, when I plug in either adapter (regardless of whether anything is plugged in to them), the screen goes blue for a moment as if it's detecting a new display, but then it just goes back to normal with no new display detected. Running "detect displays" manually makes no difference, and neither does having something plugged in on the other end or not.
At this point, I can't use video output for any purpose, which is sort of annoying ...

  • My new (2 weeks old) Macbook Pro, wont send video output signal to beamer... What can I do?  I have the adapter to vga but it does not work...

Hi, I have a new MacBook Pro and I dont get video output to a beamer although I have the regular
Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter and it works fine with my older MacBook...
Thanks a lot for your tips...

That should work. When you first hook it up it will probably have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In SystemPreferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.
If you also want audio you'll need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate input plugs on your TV http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=macboo k+audio+cable&sprefix=macbook+audio+cable&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amacbook+audio+cable

  • MacBook Pro to TV, Video Output Too Dark

    Hi,
    I have an 2010 model 15" MacBook Pro i5.
I got this video converter for Christmas:
    http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-VGA2TV-Computer-Presentation-Converter/dp/B000X3 FAJU/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&qid=1295210644&sr=8-4
Using this in conjunction with an Apple Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter and a standard RCA video cable, I am able to connect my MacBook to my TV so I can stream video from sites like Hulu.
My TV is a Sanyo flat screen CRT that's, probably, 6-7 years old (exact model probably isn't important).
I have no issues with the quality of the video output I'm getting (i.e. resolution, color). The issue I'm having is that the video is too dark. The video looks great on my MacBook screen, but the TV display is too dark. I have tried playing with the settings on the TV and on the converter (through which I can adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, and sharpness) and I can't, for the life of me, get the output to my TV brightened up to an acceptable level.
I have tried to use the display calibration tool in the Mac's display preferences and that didn't seem to help (I'll admit that I don't think I'm doing it correctly).
Can anyone suggest some steps that I might try in order to improve my video output?
    Thanks.
