Video output problems version 9

I have tried a number of solutions (rendering, changing presets) but cannot enlarge the video on a burned disc to minimize the black band around the picutre. When viewing DVD on TV, the picture is very small-- it actually hurts to watch some parts of it. I have combined about 15 different sections into one final AVI file that I burn to disc. This is my annual family movie-- I didn't have this issue last year!

If you have Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit, the still images that go into the project should not exceed the pixel dimensions of 1000 x 750. If your photos are imported into the project as 4000 x 3000 pixels, they are grossly oversized for the projects and the complications can be many. But, since you are bothered by small images, by any chance were you attempting to resize your originals for this project before you took the images into the project?
But, first order of business is getting the pixel aspect ratio matters under control here. 4:3 standard versus 16:9 widescreen.
When the videos were recorded, what format were they recorded in
720 x 480 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second
or
720 x 480 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second
or
something else.
This information will define our course of action in setting up the project correctly.
Once we have that information, then we decide what project preset (project settings) to establish. This project preset will direct the program to set up the correct space in the Edit Mode monitor from which to edit.
If set up correctly, you should not have black borders around your images. They should fit the Edit Mode monitor space completely. Exceptions are possible, but not the rule.
The major concerns about the burn to DVD is whether you have a 4:3 or 16:9 project.
Please try to gather together the information indicated. What you do not know perhaps we can piece together from the brand/model/setting for your camera.  We will work together to get the job done.
Thanks.

  • Quad video output problem @ 640x480

When I connect my new Quad to a TV with the DVI to Video adapter there are some glitchy looking artifacts at the very top of the display. Some pixels of random colors but most of them are just black. This only affects the top 30 pixels or so and only on the TV (not on my main screen). The problem only exists when displaying at 640x480 and with overscan on. The problem persists whether using s-vid or composite cable. I have the stock graphics card, the nVideo 6600. I'll post a picture of the glitch to this thread when I can get my hands on a digital camera.

Same as when the mini goes into sleep mode. It wont wake up . Si i have to reset the mini all the time. What is causing this and how could i solve it. The mini is connected with hdmi.

    Hi, JO5B.
I have Dell Monitor that has 3 computers plugged into different inputs.
When switching between different machines I have to select the new input from the monitor's on screen menu. The Dell doesn't auto detect the new input and switch itself over.
Try a manual selection from the OSD, that might solve your problem.

  • IMac G5 iSight - Resolution problems when using s-video output.

    Good afternoon all.
I have an iMac G5 and the only video output it has is a mini VGA socket. I have used this with a mini VGA to S-Video converter cable from Apple and am getting some odd results.
The Mac is running Leopard 1.5.7 and I'm outputting to a fairly old Panasonic CRT TV.
The problem I find is that when I plug in my mini VGA adaptor to the Mac it reduces the resolution on the Mac screen down to 1024x768 (stretched). The TV outputted TV image looks great, but I can't seem to keep my native resolution of 1440x900 on the Mac display.
If I do go and change the resolution in "displays" in the sys' prefs' then it just seems to keep the 1024x768 resolution on the Mac but this time without stretching it.
Does anyone know how I can keep my Mac at its native resolution of 1440x900 while still outputting to s-video to the TV?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you again in advance.
    Stuart

    Hi
I have the same config as you: I have been using it for years to view on my tv dvds or videos from the web.
To my knowledge there is no way to acheive what you wish: when you plug the adaptor in the mac adjust to your output source and its main display (the g5 display) will reflect that with the result that it becomes very difficult to use.
Maybe there is a way to try changing the resolution in a middlle"configuration" which would give an acceptable viewing on the tv as well as on the g5.
Personally I keep plugging and unplugging the adaptor as needed.

  • Hello to all: My iMac has developed a video display problem. It displays everything in cartoon like colors - purple, green, blue. Can this be repaired? Is there a way to output to a different monitor? Thanks in advance!  isplays

    Hello -
My iMac has developed a video display problem. Everything now appears in a strange, cartoonish way. Purples, greens, blues. Can this be fixed, and if so, any idea how much it might cost? Also, could I output to a seperate monitor? I plan to replace the unit , but cannot right now. Thanks!

Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing.
In the Display area, reset it to "Black on white" by clicking that checkbox.
You can also reset it by pressing Command-Option-Control-8

  • External monitor: problem to enable video output

    Hello,
I try to use an external monitor.
I usually use it by a camcorder and a Firewire PAL in FCP without any problem.
In Color, if I go in User preferences, Video output is set on disabled and the others (for example Digital Cinema preview or Firewire Pal) are all gray and I cannot set them.
    Thank you for your help.

    Luca,
Please refer to the included documentation. Color does not and will not send external video through firewire to any device, save one, and that is the Aja IO HD and then that device is limited to standard definition video only.
This "issue" has also been well covered in this and other forums: you need an input/output card manufactured by [Aja|http://www.aja.com/html/products_macintosh.html] or by [Blackmagic Designs|http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products>.

  • Video output only black & white

The video output on my Macbook Pro is now only black and white; last week it was fine (in full color). Any ideas?

Thanks, but that's not the problem. The main screen on the Macbook is fine, but the video output is black and white. So, for example, when mirroring the screen, I get a color version on the Macbook, and a black and white version on the TV (and it's not a problem with the TV).
    Any other suggestions or ideas?

mpv doesn't crash, it just falls back to software decoding and gives me a grey screen when it's not fullscreen, and when it's fullscreen it tears a lot and flashes random grey stripes everywhere - sound still works fine. Any ideas on what can be at fault here? The only video output that gives me an OK image without tearing or anything else is x11, but it's really slow.

Now try vainfo again. Instead of "Splitted-Desktop Systems XvBA backend for VA-API - 0.8.0" it should say "AMD MMD 1.0" or something like that.
Thanks, now VA-API at least gives me an output - but the video just flashes in fullscreen. I think another thing to notice here is that the video only plays correctly (gives me an output), if I play it on monitor 1 (I use three monitors) - but I can't get rid of the screen flashing.
EDIT: Fullscreen only flashes when I use mpv, with smplayer (+mpv) it works ok - but it lags from time to time. mplayer-vaapi won't give me a smooth playback either with -vo and -va as vaapi, and the screen also flashes when I'm using it.
Any idea on what's wrong? Is it my use of three monitors? This is really, really annoying.

  • Bad Video Output -- with example

I've seen several people complain about the poor quality of the video output from FCE and this is something I've experienced myself so I'd like to find a solution. When people make these posts about quality, the usual response is that there must be some sort of user error or bad input. If that's the case, then the "correct" way to convert video remains a mystery to many of us. Let's shine some light on that dark corner...
To wit, here's a sample screen capture showing the original .MOV file from my camera on the left and the output of FCE on the right:
    http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5215575
Clearly something went awry in the conversion process, but it's nothing I've done explicitly. Perhaps you can help me identify what did go wrong, why it went wrong, and how to avoid it in the future.
    First some details.
The original input file (on the left) came from a Canon SD700-IS camera and was put through a File|Save As process in Quicktime Pro to make it a proper .MOV file. Viewing the video clip within FCE, it looks just as good as the source version.
But once I've exported the entire sequence to a file, the video looks kinda crappy -- like in the frame on the right. Part of the issue is stretching the source 640x480 to NTSC 720x480, but beyond that it looks like the compression was done very poorly. Things are just a LOT blurrier and there's very little contrast.
The bottom line is -- what are some of us just simply not seeing.
    Cheers,
    ALF
    Powermac Dual G5 2.3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hopefully this helps explain my understanding better...
I'm familiar with MJPG, but the video is not MJPG when I put it into FCE. The picture on the left has already been converted by Quicktime.
While MJPG is a series of JPG images and each individual JPG image is compressed slightly (I don't do lots of compression in the camera), the point I was making is that each of these frames is a key frame. When QT or FCE or anything else converts such a file it has a WEALTH of information to use and therefore image quality shouldn't degrade.
One of the things I don't understand is the insistence that upsampling is occurring. While FCE may indeed be upsampling, it SHOULD NOT BE because I've centered the input video within the 720x480 DV frame. No scaling need occur.
This is akin to making something smaller than 720x480 in After Effects, for example, and importing to FCE as an overlay for something. There should be no quality degradtion because that's not being scaled to 720x480 either -- it's just a small part of the screen.
There also isn't an issue with frame rate because, as I mentioned, the source video is 30fps. Any suggestion otherwise is assuming 15fps for the source video, which is incorrect.
The only thing that leaves as a factor is interlacing -- the source video is most certainly not interlaced. So as I understand things right now, the loss in video quality I've seen is due to artifacts introduced by interlacing and delta-compression. Because I've seen lots of example of delta compression which don't look this bad, I'm hoping there's some way I can tweak the amount of compression or something. Not much I can do about interlacing, though.
As to the camcorder issue, the reason I said it's not germane is because it's the data that's important rather than where it came from. I could just as easily get a 640x480 Quicktime, AVI, or MPEG file as source and see the same type of degradation (I've done it).
The problem is how FCE treats 640x480 (or anything less than 720x480) video. By default it does indeed upscale to fill the full DV frame. But it also provides the ability to drop smaller video onto part of the frame as well as the ability to scale video within the frame.
So if FCE is putting my 640x480 video through a scaling process to place it as a centered 640x480 image in the 720x480 frame, and scaling that again for DVD out put, then yeah I can see where degradation would occur. I just don't believe it should be doing that first scaling.
I also don't understand why interlacing would cause so much degradation, but as has been said it could be the combination of that and the (unnecessary) scaling.

You don't need to run it as root to get the correct information. For some reason the packages that got into extra didn't use ffmpeg correctly. Yours doesn't either.

Windows has a terribly broken privilege separation model. Well, the one they have now in 2000/XP/Vista is actually ok, but their legacy support makes it all but useless. Don't run ANYTHING as root unless it's absolutely required. It's not required to run VLC as root. Run it as a user.

    Video is OK in mplayer!
Rebuild ffmpeg and vlc and you'll be fine. I left the PKGREL id the same, that way the arch team's next ffmpeg and vlc packages will replace mine.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - Video Output (GPU) bad quality...

    Hi,
I have a question about Adobe Premiere Pro CS6...
I have installed the Trial-Version and use a BM Intensity Pro to output Full-HD 1080i (50, Interlace) trough HDMI Video-Output...
The Video-Output works correctly, but if I enable the "GPU"-Acceleration (CUDA), and scale or transform a Video (for example a 3D-Transformation) the Quality of the transforming is very bad! (jerky, not "smooth", Interlace-Lines etc...)
If I deactivate the GPU-Acceleration (Software only Mode), everything is smooth and looks good!
Also if I render the Timeline, all tranformations are also smooth, only the Realtime GPU Rendering looks very bad....
    What can I do?

    Hi :-)
I have tested it now with another Grafikcard!
And it is exactly the same problem
I have found out, that the GPU makes a delay, after a few seconds the Transformation looks smooth/bicubic!
    But on relatime-Playback its bad...
My English isnt very good, so I have some problems to describe what I mean...
If you stop the playback, it takes 2 Sekonds and then the image looks good!
But dureing the playback its very bad quality, false Interlace-Lines etc...
    here are two screenshots:

I have an Ion iTTUSB turntable to record vinyl to MP3s. Everything was OK. Copied dozen records
with EZ Vinyl Controller v2.1 w/ Gracenote: this converts the sound & sends it to iTunes. All good with
playback until I recorded ABBA's Greatest Hits! (Yes HA-HA! That was my 1st problem.) There occured
a harmonic distortion event (loud hum developed-feedback loop). I quickly turned down my external Labtec
speakers. The hum was recorded in the iTunes MP3 file and I heard it in playback. Then there was no playback
sound at all: no system sounds, CDs, movies, etc. However, there is still audible input sound when I record
vinyl while recording, but no playback sound afterwards. Fried soundcard? Drivers? (Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA)

You can check if your Mac requires a firmware (Boot ROM version in System Profiler) update. Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.
If you want to leave OS 9 on your hard drive so you can run classic applications, you need to update to OS 9.2.1 or 9.2.2.

  • Cfmediaplayer - hiding video output?

I've recently trying to use cfmediaplayer as a pure audio player.  Cfmediaplayer appears to be working perfectly; however, I am unable to entirely hide the video content section if the titlebar is hidden.
    For example (works perfectly):
    <cfmediaplayer source="audiofile.mp4" height="40" />
This example displays 10 pixels of video and 10 pixels of the control bar (1/2 of the control bar is hidden):
    <cfmediaplayer source="audiofile.mp4" height="20" hidetitle="true" />
Has anyone else noticed this problem and is there a work around for it?
On a side note, is there a way to change the title of the media player?  Using the file name is okay for some instances, but in others it would be nice if I could have a more user-friendly title line.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not the problem. The main screen on the Macbook is fine, but the video output is black and white. So, for example, when mirroring the screen, I get a color version on the Macbook, and a black and white version on the TV (and it's not a problem with the TV).
    Any other suggestions or ideas?
