Video/Photo Graphic Problem

I have two iPhones purchased at the same time (Oct 07) with the same updates (1.1.4). One of the iPhones within the last two days has an issue with video/photo playback. When viewing images/video on the iPhone they appear as if I am viewing them through a photo filter (look almost like cartoon cahracter images). When I download the photos or view the videos via my desktop computer they look fine. Even photos taken with the iPhone camera appear like cartoons on the iPhone (they are 100% fine when downloaded on my desktop).

Here are a couple of articles from the apple support website that might help.

  • Colourful squares graphics problem

    Hey folks,
I've got a recurring graphics problem where on certain applications green and purple squares/lines begin to hover and flicker on the screen. Also, graphics on games such as Civilization IV are distorted, and also exhibit said squares. I've seen this happen on PhotoBooth, Coverflow, Safari, and image heavy pdfs on Preview. I've never seen them playing movies or Photoshop.
    http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/5051/problem2kj1.png
What's odd is that I can screen capture them, and with them there, things still function properly (mouse, keyboard, applications). Also, sometimes they go away, and can be 'deleted' by moving a window around the screen to 'erase' them. Other times, they just accumulate. Usually a restart is required to get rid of them, but if I open the same application again, boom! Back again.
I'm guessing, after reading on all these forum discussions, that it could be a graphics card error or something, but I was wondering if anybody else had any insight/answers, or advice about what to do or what to tell the Apple Support people down at the store/on the phone.
    Thanks in advance!

An error like this, especially if it reoccurs frequently and/or causes crashes or kernel panics is usually a very good indicator of bad Video RAM. That's a hardware problem that will require Apple to replace your entire logic board (since the VRAM is soldered to the board).
Take the computer to your local Apple store along with the photos you have of the problem. Explain the situation to the genius and he'll most likely send your laptop off for repairs.

  • X230T - Major Windows 8 Graphics Problems

    Hi all,
I own a X230 Tablet with the Intel HD4000 running Windows 8 Release Preview. I know it's still a beta but I was just wondering if anyone else has run into major graphics problems on Windows 8 Release Preview. I'm currently using the most up to date W8 64 bit Drivers from intel.
There is a huge amount of clipping, flickering and white backgrounds being shown as black. The apps I've noticed this in are OneNote MX (whenever pen input done), Windows Reader (All PDF white backgrounds are shown as black) and Internet Explorer 10 Metro (Tab previews have black bacgrounds). This is strange to me, though I've found at least one other X230T owner with identical problems.
Pictures, videos and descriptions can be found here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/intel-hd4000-onenote-mx-w8-reader...
Just wondering if Lenovo engineers are aware of this issue and if a fix exists/ is being worked upon. It's somehwat fustrating as it makes many core Windows 8 experiences unsuable (which was the point of buying a touch screen laptop).
    Thanks

  • 24" iMac (1st Gen\White), Graphics Problem(s)

Hi, I will have had my iMac for two years on Thursday (Christmas present, in a way) and it is currently starting to exhibit some weird graphical problems, horizontal lines are appearing in various applications, at random times, but the weird thing is that they stay in that app when i move the window around and I can take snapshots of them. I posted some to my MobileMe Gallery: http://gallery.me.com/mam693#100105
I installed Leopard on an iPod and those lines even showed up on the install DVD as well as the clean iPod making me believe its a hardware issue.
Now, I have been reading that other people have had similar problems and have had to pay around $800 to get it fixed, if anyone could confirm, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone has any other suggestions they would be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hello,
This sounds like a video card issue but if you haven't done so, check the hard disk for errors.
    To check the hard disk:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the Menu Bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If it were me, I'd back the system up and erase the drive just to make sure it isn't a hardware issue and not have to shell out $$$$$.
    Reinstalling Mac OS X
Under some circumstances, you may need to reinstall Mac OS X. You can reinstall Mac OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.
NOTE: To reinstall Mac OS X from another computer on your network, see this topic:
Using Remote Install Mac OS X
    To reinstall Mac OS X:
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).
    Click Options.
If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”
If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.
    Click Continue.
Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).
NOTE: If you selected “Erase and Install” in step 3, you may need to use the Applications Install DVD that came with your computer to reinstall your iLife applications (GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb). If you are prompted to use the Applications Install DVD, insert the Applications Install DVD, double-click the Install Bundled Software icon, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you purchased a standalone version of Mac OS X, these installation instructions are in a PDF file located on the Mac OS X Install DVD.
If you need to reinstall the version of Mac OS X that was on your computer when you purchased it, or if you need to restore all the software on your computer, including Apple software, third-party applications, and other printer drivers, review the instructions in the manual that came with your computer.
If you need to reinstall Mac OS X and you’ve been using Time Machine for backup, you can easily restore your applications, files, and user settings from your Time Machine backup disk after you’ve reinstalled Mac OS X.
    Happy Holidays!!!

  • 24'' iMac 2006 graphic problems

I have an old iMac which I am planning to give away for free. It is a 2006 24 '' iMac with 2,16 GHz IntelCore duo processor. It had originally 1 GB RAM, but has now 4 GB RAM installed .
The latest OS it had was iOS 10.7 Lion, and there were some graphic issues where parts of the screen was really odd.
I cleared the HD and did a clean install of iOS 10.7 Lion using the recovery HD partition, The installation proscess was uneventful, and with no graphic disturbances. But as soon as I started using the machine, there was again graphic problems. I also got som of the "You need to restart your computer...." messages.
I then again cleared the HD and did a clean install of iOS 10.6 Snow Leopard from a SL DVD. Again an uneventful installation, but the same graphic problems when using the machine.
I repeated the proscess and did a new clean install of iOS 10.7 Lion, this time from an installation USB stick I made some years ago. Same thing.
I then cleared the HD once again and did a clean install of iOS 10.5 Leopard from a DVD. This time I was really optimistic because everything looked so good. But after using the iMAc for some minutes, there are again graphic problems. It seems the problems are less with Leopard than the other iOS I have tried. SOme times the screen looks normal, sometimes there are horisontal stripes across the screen, and sometimes part of the screen is really disturbed.
During the installation proscess there are no graphic issues.
I have repaired permissons, reset PRAM and using Disk Utility to repair the HD shows nothing wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Is it a hardware or a software problem? I do not want to use much money or much time on this, as this is really an iMac I do not use anymore.

It's not software. It's consistent with a graphic card/logic card problem.
I have an iMac, and I'd be obliged if you could satisfy my curiosity. What kind of computing have you done? Pretty routine web browsing and email?  Gaming and video editing? Have the temps gone up very high at any time while using it? Did the problems happen after your latest upgrade? Have you tried downgrading the OS?
    Thanks!

  • Nokia 808 Video mode - Jerking problem

The Jerking only happen when video mode happen on all setting 1080p,720p,360p. So I guess someone really happen in the hardware itself. Yes I tried touch screen zoom in this video and also volume button in the middle of the video. Both having the jerking 2 to 3 times starting from 1/3 of the zooming.
Zoom function is work perfectly find on photo taking mode tested on 8mp 5mp 2mp.
I have taken a sample here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kYsYaQRkrYw
I don't think its normal to have the jerk. Is my set having problem?

ok guys. I had sent my set to Nokia service centre for repaired. It factory reset everything and upgrade to FP2. Now the camera looks smoother I notice video stablisations 'on' will cause the shaking of video zoom.
On video mode ,the jerking problem is back.
To fix the problem I try to go to picture mode and off the stablisation and test swype the zoom afew times and back to video mode the problem is gone.
    So the problem is:
It will jerk everytime I try to zoom in video mode. Picture mode not so obvious since it zoom very fast and don't takes video. Only video mode will be affected.
    temporary solution found
go to picture mode and off the stablisation and test swype the zoom afew times and back to video mode the problem is gone for a while.
If i try to use the zoom often like 30times or more, somehow it triggle it to cause the jerking and have to disable stablisation and go picture mode and swype zooming afew times which somehow will recover from the unstable zooming. back to video mode and test it should be ok now.
Is anyone out there having the same issue too?

  • XServe G5 graphics problem

I recently migrated from an xServe G4 to an xServe G5 via Apple restore and putting the G4 in target mode.
However I am having some graphics problems with the xServe G5 (time machine not displaying properly) and I believe it is a video driver issue. When I check the system it shows the graphics card is a
    chipset VTXP jjbabacd,
    ROM Macos Drvr Vrsn 1.4.
Can anyone shed some light on who the manufacturer is and where I could download a current firmware/software driver for this video chipset?

Invoking Time Machine has some pretty heavy graphic requirements and I have a strong suspicion that your video card isn't up to displaying the heady 3D graphics required to start-up TM.
Believe it or not this happened to me with the OS X 10.5 beta when I threw it on an old G4 box. The stock video card has been replaced at some point with something worse and it didn't have the memory or horsepower to start TM and it just failed to a black screen. I just checked my emails from that time with Apple but I don't see an explicit listings for what was required but I think at minimum it needs to be able to invoke Quartz Extreme (and maybe OGL) to start-up. The requirements are pretty meager by todays standards but the card you have may not measure up.
    Good luck,
    =Tod
EDIT: Totally slipped my mind that System Profiler will tell you whether Quartz Extreme is hardware supported or not. Graphics/Displays near the bottom "Quartz Extreme: Supported" so that should be easy to check.

  • Video/Photo Editing on the Mac Mini (question mark?)

I recently discovered the Mac Mini and immediatly thought "what a great thing, a cheeper version of a mac that i can use to edit things like video and potentialy pictures!"
However, it has been brought to my attention that the mini might not be the most powerful machine and potentialy incapable of handeling video/photo editing due to a less powerful graphics card.
My question pretty much is, can I effectivly edit on a mac mini or is there a way to upgrade the video card to make it more capable?
    thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One of the users in my system bought a mini specifically for video work - and it works extremely well. The on-board graphics don't obstruct effective use of the system for this sort of work at all, and in fact video work is perfectly feasible on systems with vastly inferior graphics cards than the one used in the mini, so that should not be a concern. The same is true of photo editing.
It's certainly true that the mini isn't the most powerful Mac of course, but to put that in context, the current Intel minis are on a general par in processing power to the top of the range G5 powermacs of 3 years ago - many of which are still in use in demanding circumstances. The mini's drawbacks are the lack of internal expansion options and the relatively slow hard drive, but a the former can be largely overcome by adding desired components externally, such as extra hard drives and burners, and the impact of the second can be mitigated to a significant degree by maxing out the RAM. Thus a 1.6 mini with 2Gb RAM will perform rather better than a 1.8 mini with the stock 512Mb.
In practice, the video card is good for all tasks short of 3D gaming - which is just as well since it's embedded on the logic board and thus cannot be replaced!

  • Severe graphic problems on Intel iMac (2007)

iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (white, 2007)
Works OK in OS X 10.6.7 in Safe Boot mode, but with regular startup is unusable and experiences severe graphic problems and freezes, such as:
Spurious lines across the screen and in various application windows.
Mail window breaks up into a patchwork and mail refuses to quit
Safari window displays severe artifacts and locks up
Dock severely distorted; some icons extremely garbled and unrecognizable
We tried erasing and reinstalling OS 10.6, up to 10.6.7, restoring only the primary user, but the same problems persist. No applications other than from the installation disk were installed.
iMac originally came with OS X 10.4. Upgraded to 10.5, then later to 10.6. Since upgrading to 10.6 (now 10.6.7), have had increasing problems with display artifacts. Now it's so bad we can't operate unless we go to Save Boot. Then, it seems to work fine, but Safe Boot turns off sound output, so iTunes and other audio capabilities are lost.
Since it works OK under Safe Boot, what items could be removed to restore proper operation?
Is there a way to restore sound output while operating in Safe Boot?
Is it just a bad idea to upgrade to MacOS X 10.6 on a computer that came with 10.4?
I'm considering erasing and returning to the original MacOS X 10.4 installation, but I'm concerned that photos in iPhoto will not be compatible with the OS 10.4 version of iPhoto.
    Hope someone can help. Thanks.

    Thanks.
    Or buy a new one.
It passes the Apple Hardware Test, as well as TechTool Pro hardware tests. But clearly something is wrong, and worse than when it was even a few weeks ago. I even tried erasing and reverting Tiger, and it was better, but still had some obvious artifacts and stability issues. Apparently not a drive problem either, since it occurs when running from various external drives as well.
    Appreciate the help.

Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

My GE600, Around 5 months old, has been giving me this problem for that period of time. The screen will blackout for around 10 seconds and flash for a few seconds before returning to what i was doing. But now, since i started on a new game that requires alot of power (GTA IV) when this happens, i will get returned to my desktop, and my game will crash. I confirmed that that is the problem - the most recent crash was due to that error.
The voltage when im playing the game is around 64-7x degree Celsius
My GPU Usage has reached a maximum of 100% but im not sure when it was .
Heres a list of things that i had tried:
    Reinstalled Drivers
    Increased Fan Speed
    Scanned for virus
    Installed all latest win7 updates

  • Can OS X 10.8.5 support a Verbatim 2TB Store 'n' Save USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive to be used as back-up for videos-photos?

I am considering purchasing a Verbatim 2TB Store 'n' Save USB 3.0 Hard Drive to use as back-up for videos-photos.  Does anyone know if OS X 10.8.5 supports a drive this size?  ( I know that I'll only have USB 2.0 capability).  My system is  an early 2009 24" iMac, 2.93 MHz Intel Core Duo, with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I would appreciate any feedback/recommendations.  Thank you for your consideration and support!

The size is not a problem.  While the drive will work it will work as a  USB 2 drive you are paying extra for USB 3.
If you plan on upgrading your system then getting a USB 3 drive now might make sense but if you have no plans to upgrade there is no reason to spend the extra money.
The drive, even as a USB 3 drive, seems a bit pricey. Have you looked at other drives? OWC, Amazon and Newegg.com might have better deals.
