Video playback in Keynote has random dip to black at start of videos

I've assembled a string of Quicktime videos in Keynote, which was composed on my desktop and imported into the iPad through iTunes. Usually the first or second video begins with a quick dip to black before it starts. These are 768 x 1024 videos I compressed with Quicktime through lots of experimentation to work with iPad. Thinking that might be the problem, I put together a file using videos that were compressed using iTunes with the Apple TV setting recommended for iPad. The flashes of black still occurred.
Anyone else experienced this problem?

  • Video playback on external monitor working. Only works when Print to Video

I'm having a problem. I'm using FCP 5. When editing, my video playback is not showing up on my external monitor (Sharp MiniDV camcorder). It does however show up on the external monitor when I "Print to Video." This is the first time using FCP 5. I never had this problem with previous versions of FCP. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Thanks

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • IPad 2 Video playback Quality Issue (Low Contrast and grayish black)

Does anyone notice that the video playback quality is really bad on the iPad 2? If you try to play any video (youtube, apple trailer, your own converted video) on the iPad 2, any black images will turn grayish... Just put your iPhone, iPod touch, or even the older iPad next to it, then you will notice a BIG difference. The color is similar to what happened when you set the gamma incorrectly on a display.
Also, you will notice this more if you change the orientation of the device, the contrast will be corrected for a fraction of a second.
I've tried this on other iPad 2 and they all share the same problem. I tried to talk to the Apple Genius Bar and they refused to give me a proper answer on this, instead simply claiming that is just the way it is... I wanted to refund this but I've passed the 14 days rule and also I got it from a authorized retailer and so Apple just won't take it back.
I believe it can be fixed by software... Any idea? or I shall throw it away T_T

I'm on the phone with apple support right now. I work at a post production house, and we/our clients keep having this issue - everything looks great on screen and on the ipad 1, and theres a huge gamma shift on the ipad 2. they need to fix this ASAP. like Jls21 already said, a lot of us use ipads for work purposes - unacceptable!
this thread ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/15100980#15100980 ) seems to blame the h.264 codec/compression settings…? does anyone know of another codec that prevents this gamma shift on the ipad 2?
this is from the tech specs page:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
is there anything that jumps out to anyone regarding workarounds for this issue?
we've used both Compressor and MPEG Streamclip - there's no quality difference between them, in case anyone is trying that.
okay so, i was transferred to a senior technical rep and he looked it up - apparently apple is getting a bunch of complaints about this issue and they've submitted it to their developers. the more people that call and complain, the higher up on the priority list it goes to be fixed in a software update. there is no workaround known, and it's a standard issue across all ipad 2's.

  • ITunes video hangs for 2 seconds at exactly 8 seconds after start of video

This has been a nagging problem for me ever since iTunes 7. For some reason, when I play a video in iTunes, it always seems to freeze for about 2-3 seconds, and it always happens at the same time: 8 seconds into the video. Both video and audio freeze.
If I were to open the same video file through QuickTime directly (outside iTunes), I don't see this problem. I've gone through Apple's basic troubleshooting guide (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1386), changing all the DirectX settings in Quicktime, changing various video driver settings, and even did a full uninstall/reinstall of iTunes & QuickTime.
The only self-installed video codec I have is DivX, but I don't think it's a video codec conflict since the videos work fine in QuickTime.
I'm running iTunes 8.0.2 on a Windows XP laptop (Dell Latitude D620).
Any suggestions on where to look next?

Okay I have only used the media encoder in the past to render out  my movies so they we suitable for youtube using the "1080p Youtube" preset in the encoder.  So I am not to sure which pre-set or settings you want me to pick for this movie when I encode it. Also it says the codec it's currently in is H.264, AAC which I thought was also the codec the Media Encoder used when making movies suitable for youtube, so shouldn't it be fine inside AE?
I also attached the "info" on the movie file, just to provide you with more detail of what I am working with.

  • Video Playback on 3GS has a row of dancing pixels.

My husband and I download mp4's from an afforable paysite and have been doing so for almost a year very successfully. We share the same movies. His play fine on his iPod touch but since I purchased the iPhone 3GS, some of the new movies I sync have a row of pixels on the bottom 1/4 of the screen, that flash, stutter, dance etc. throughout the entire movie. The top 3/4 of the movie playback is fine, clear.I have a 16G with plenty of memory to spare. The audio is clear and the timing is accurate. Also the movies play fine on my desktop eMac.
    What I've tried:
Doing absolutely no surfing during syncing.
Turning push and fetch off on my iPhone during syncing.
Completely erasing and re-downloading and re-syncing from scratch.
Thanks in advance for the help!

it could be because the 3gs has a slightly different media player then the touch or 3g. (this is just based on other posts i've read where people that had videos that played fine on a 3g now have wierd stuff going on when played in the 3gs.) you might need to reconvert the files to something the 3gs can play. i have used the 'videora iphone 3g converter' (there is also a 3gs converter) available for free from www.videora.com to see if that helps.

  • Video inserted in Keynote has no sound on iPad Air, how can I resolve this?

I have saved a video from iMoves to my camera roll on my iPad Air. It plays fine in both programmes. Only when I insert it into a keynote presentation does it play with no sound. Can somebody help me resolve this please?

Try this. Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and cache (data in iOS 5) then restart the iPad. If that doesn't help, look here for more tips.

  • High Definition Video playback in Keynote?

Can Keynote play back High Definition Video?
I'm not a video guy at all, so I'm not really sure of what precisely constitutes an "HD Video" file, but I do recall being given some Quicktime files a while back that were larger in file size, screen size and better resolution. These, I was told, were "HD."
Anyway, a client is asking if Keynote supports HD, and I'm at a loss...
    - Nolan

I ran into the same problem. I had some picturess that had great detail. I put them into iMovie to get the "Ken Burns" effect, but when I shared them and used them in KN the lost their detail. I called Apple and the tech told me how to get HD images into KN.
In iMovie there are many options as to size and resolution when you use share. I think that I have used HD images stright from Photoshop to KN also. Hope this might help, somewhat late.

  • How to create 5 seconds of black at start of video?

I have discovered a way but don't know whether there are better ones.
Simply drag the "Custom" generator to the start and adjust the duration.
    Is this the only method?

OOpppsss.... Sorry Ian, I meant Option+W to insert a GAP.
However, they give a gap of 3 seconds.
That's correct, 3 seconds is the default duration for a GAP clip.
When I select the gap and try to change the duration it always reverts to 3 seconds?
Hmm.. Just tried it and worked fine for me..
Here's a screen grab of my timeline.
Place the playhead at the start of your project, option+w to insert a GAP, highlight the GAP in the Primary Storyline, control+D on your keyboard, and type in 500 to lengthen it to 5sec.
To adjust the duration manually, make sure you have you Select Tool to start (hit A on your keyboard), select the edge of the GAP (have a look at my screen grab), and drag.

  • 9 hours of video playback using this

    anyone use this?
    http://www.tekkeon.com/site/products-mypower.php

The orignal 30GB Video iPod had a video playback of 2hrs with the brigthness at max. The orignal 30GB Video iPod can get an additional 3hrs of video playback a total of 5hrs when the brightness is completely dimmed. To completely dim the backlight during video isn't great because its pretty dark. So I suggest you dim to 1/4 brightness and you will most likely get between 3.5 to 4hrs of video playback. Right now I'm testing how much battery life I would get with the backlight dim to 1/4 brightness and so the results coming out great I played a 2hr 40min movie with 1/4 battery life left. I'm hoping I get an additional hour.
The new 30GB iPod has a 3.5hrs of video playback with the brightness at max. So the new 30GB Video iPod gets an ugrade of 1.5hrs of video playback, that can probably go up to 6.5hrs of video playback with the brightness completely dimmed.
I did this test to ease the pain of those who just bought the orignal 30GB iPod and then find out days later that Apple to released an upgrade 30GB Video iPod. So if you want extra video playback just dim the brightness on the backlight halfway and you will get around 3.5hrs of video playback instead 2hrs.

  • Intermittent stalling during audio/video playback

This issue is driving me up the wall.  I hope someone can help.
Often, while listening to (for example) iTunes, playback stalls and there is silence for several seconds.  If I listen to music for an hour, I guess I might experience the issue anywhere from 3-6 (?) times — though sometimes I can go for more than an hour without it happening.  But: it doesn't just happen with iTunes — the same thing happens from time to time when using VLC for video playback (usually accompanied by some video artifacts), or HTML5 video playback within Safari.  (I don't have Flash Player installed, though I occasionally use Google Chrome for Flash content; if I recall correctly I think the same thing sometimes happens with Flash videos/audio within Chrome too.)
Along the same lines, now and then I notice that when attempting an action within Mail.app, a task will appear in the Activity Window that's something like, 'waiting for the hard drive,' with a barber pole and stop sign.  This will delay my action for several seconds.  I suspect this is a different manifestation of the same underlying problem that causes the playback stalling.
I DON'T typically get the swirling beach ball of doom when any of these things happen.  Mouse pointer does NOT freeze, and the system seems responsive in all other ways during these episodes.
I'm pretty Mac savvy, and I make sure to do regular hard drive maintenance (verifying volume with Disk Utility, rebuilding directory with DiskWarrior, etc.).  My startup partition is only about 2/3 full.  This week I used iDefrag to defrag the hard drive, thinking it might fix the problem, but nope it still happens.  SMART diagnostics have never shown a problem.
When researching this issue on the web, some folks have suggested keeping an eye on the log files (Console.app), and Activity Monitor.  I definitely haven't found anything in the log files that coincides with incidents of stalling.  And nothing in particular seems to 'spike' in CPU activity in the Activity Monitor at the same time as the stalling; at least not that I've noticed.
I'm pretty good about keeping apps up to date, and I don't have too many apps running in the background.  But the problem persists even when I've quit everything else except the app that's doing the audio/video playback.
This has been going on for a long time, and nothing I've tried has helped.  Any advice or suggestions, anyone??
    - Gord

Checking Console.app messages once again, the following lines seem to coincide with at least some of the stalling incidents:

  • Driver-related video playback problems.

    Hi,
I've been experiencing less than stellar video playback for a while. My system is P4 1.6A  256MB RAM with msi FX 5700 128 MB running on WIN98 SE .  The thing is that before upgrading my drivers to 50.XX series , I never had video playback problems, totally smooth, then after the 50.XX series, certain video clips froze for a second when opened, then when I installed the 5306 drivers, my system used to freeze for a second before video playback and video seeking stuttered and froze a lot.  Since upgrading to 56.55  and then 56.64 version , the freezeups and stutters are gone but now the quality of the video playback is really crappy and also there is this horizontal border around the video and it looks kinda 'squinched?!?' .  This erratic video behaviour has been going on through out my upgrade from a FX5200 to FX5700 card and with both MSI and nvidia drivers. Presently I'm using nvidia non-branded drivers 56.64.  Also, why do these newer drivers keep dummy-proofing there options pages, you cannot even experiment enough with the settings anymore and I'm afraid Riva tuner or powerstrip might not work with the newer releases.
I haven't experienced any problems with video games, just video playback, either windowed or full-screen. I would really appreciate any help with this problem, its getting to be like an itch at the back you just can't scratch.
    Thank you
