Video playback in on SonyEricsson phone

Hi,
I want to add video playback to my application. To get familar with the J2ME player, I tried the MMADemos in the WTK 2.2. They work on my S700i, but I can`t play videos! I've tried MPEG1, MPEG4 and 3GPP files, but I always get the following error message: 'Cannot create a Player for: at O' (then it's cut off). Audio files and Camera Video Capture work fine though.
I hope someone can help me..
Philipp

Look for the "Video Streaming and Playback" document on the SE developer site for video compatibility information.

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi  using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
    To answer your questions,
    1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
    2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
    3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.
Let me know if you need any more tips for iPhoning across the pond.

  • Iphone 5 video playback problems over quicktime?

ive recently got a new laptop, pre windows 8, and downloaded quicktime pro in order to play my iphone videos right side up because windows media player will play them upside down alot of the time. something i immeadiately noticed was that all my videos from my iphone 5, when played back via quicktime, have a big judder/skip in them every 2 seconds whereis all my iphone 4 videos playback no problem. the few videos i have that are recorded right side up from my iphone 5, because of orientation of the phone during recording, play perfectly fine on windows media player so this this leads me to believe it is a quicktime issue. i have updated to the latest quicktime just a few days ago with hopes of it being corrected but no such luck. im curious if anyone else is having this same problem or knows a fix? also if anyone knows how to flip videos with quicktime so i can just watch them on windows media would be great also. i found a write up how to do it but everytime i try it, after i save it it just reverts back to its orgional orientation. thanks for any help, Jamie

Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I'm running Macbook on 10.5.8. Quicktime is 7.6.9, in case this has any bearing on things.
OK......I just searched a few places and came up with this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perian
It's called Perian, and it's one of a few different options you could use to solve this problem....I just installed it (free), and now the videos play without a hitch. It's a plug-in for Quicktime.  There are others that can supposedly do the same thing--look around and give it a shot.
(Also, supposedly this Perian is no longer in open development, and may not work with the newest Quicktime update for the newest Macs, but, like I said, there are other options out there that may work for you instead.)
I have a feeling my problem may have been due to my particular Quicktime/Macbook setup being a bit outdated, but who knows?
    Good luck!

  • Video playback post iPhone 2.0 update

    Hey world,
crazy I'm not seeing this problem posted. Ideas anyone? Since updating my iPhone with the 2.0 update, my video playback is audio only with a black screen for video. What's curiouser is that podcasts play back just fine. The problem seems to be with video that I've personally encoded for the phone. All of this video was fine prior to the update, which leads me to think that encoding parameters have changed with the update. Does anyone know anything about this, and if so, what those new parameters might be?
    Thanks

All of my stuff and itms stuff still works on my 3g iPhone, encoded in H.264.
I have used visualhub, handbrake and the elgato turbo H.264.
I have no idea why you and some others are having issues.

  • Video Playback Fine On iPhone - Horrible On Computer

Seen others with this issue. But think this is NOT talked about enough, therefore NOT addressed. Hopefully someone can help me ?
Summary: Record video on iPhone, plays back great on iPhone ( A PHONE !!). Get raw footage to a computer, video plays back horribly choppy and audio out of sync (on a COMPUTER !!). Results for me are the same on ALL players on my computer. Others seem to have it play fine with VLC, but not me.
    Here's my stats:
iPhone 4, lastest O.S., latest update.
Computer - PowerBook (laptop) G4 17",  1.67Ghz Aluminum Last PPC Edition (Higher Res model), 2 GB Ram, ALL up to date, latest possible O.S., etc..
Players tested with SAME horrible results - Quicktime PRO (default .mov file), VLC, iTunes, WMV, Flip For Mac. ALL latest versions for above computer at least, etc..
I shoot some video (any length) with my iPhone 4 (which has no video camera settings, sooooo...IDK). Video plays back flawless on iPhone.
Plug iPhone into computer, download RAW uncompressed footage to desktop via "Image Capture". From that moment on (if viewing on computer), the raw footage's movie file) video playback acts like computer can't handle its quality, (choppy, skipping lots of frames, timing horribly off, etc..). Reacts same way with ANY player I use. Actually VLC is the worse, it just completely chokes. Quicktime PRO will at least play it, just horribly choppy. ALL players are up to date.
BUT if I burn a video DVD of it using Toast Pro, etc... then play it on convential DVD player and TV, it plays back awesome ! ALSO, if I "export for web" in Quicktime PRO and wait a amazing amount of time, I get a new file (MP4 or something), and that file will play fine on any player in my computer. BUT it is of a low quality, in which is BS that I have to go so low to view it cause I've played other videos downloaded from the net, or various places and they playback fine via QT or ANY player for that matter. Full screen, high res videos too !!
So I ask, what is the issue ? And why has this not been extensively discussed here and why has Apple not at least publically acknowledged this issue and gave its official word ? Is there something I can do ? Why can't the iPhone have camera settings on it to allow me to lower its video quality ? Or more importantly, why can't my computer seem to handle a simple video file that is really NOT true HD (which is 1920x1080) ? Its honestly not even much above TV resolution (720 x something). My computers screen resolution is 1680 x 1050 dpi, and my video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, AGP 128.
I could be mistaken, but I am almost sure I've downloaded and viewed movies (in file format) via QT that are of a highe res, better quality even and they playback fine. So can I get some clarification on this please ? Whats going on with the iPhones video capture ? Is it out of frame rate ? Or what ?
    Thanks for anyones time --

    mcsound wrote:
Given the specs of your computer, I would not expect smooth playback of HD video.  You definitely lack the processor power and are fairly low on the amount of RAM need to do so.
Hi mcsound, thanks for chiming in to help.
I don't know if I agree with this. Mathematic reasoning just don't support this. I agree consumerism does though - lol.
Playing HD don't take much resources, as my old xBox 360 plays HD movies just fine. But the real point is, 1280 x 720 is not HD, sure its a higher res than standard TV, but not by some overwhelming amount that causes issues like this. I can play other high res videos on this computer just fine, from DVD (which actually should be more taxing on the computer), and also from file (which is literally the same).
The xBox 360 has less processing power and less ram than my old "out of spec" computer, and it plays HD movies just fine. Point to all this is, it just aint adding up. The first inclination I agree, is to go buy a new computer. But, if you do the math, there is no reason why a 1.67Ghz processor can't play HD movies. Cause actually, it can, my computer plays them fine in iMovie, and edits HD video and renders HD video and burns HD video, and real 1920 x 1080 HD video, not this faux HD of 1280 x 720. So see how this is not adding up ?
RAM has nothing to do with this either. Playing movies from file or disc uses almost no ram. But editing film does for sure, and at that, these 2GB of ram I got has edited, rendered and made plenty of HD movies.
Look at the screenshots I supplied, the before and during screens of the "System Memory" (RAM) shows that while playing the faux HD iPhone clip, it used only 100mb of Ram.
So again, no reason to think it is the specs of the computer. I agree it could be the video card, or processor MAYBE, but again, why does other HD clips/movies play on this computer smoothly, while anyone taken from the iPhone doesn't ?
If it is the case that the iPhone is just taking a amazingly high quality of 1280 x 720 (higher than other 1280 x 720 cameras for some other reason), then why in the world would Apple not give the iPhone a camera setting to allow us to pick "capture" setting optimized for the end result application we plan on using ?
Either way, this is not ok, and either way, its funny how it gets most people buying into the whole "consumerism" thing. Which is the last thing we need. Don't get me wrong, I buy things like crazy, and will be buying a couple new computers soon, BUT there is no need for it to play HD or several other things people think. HD is not rocket science, and again, HD is old and was supported even when my computer came out. My screen resolution exceeds the iPhones video clips resolution !
There is some framerate controversy I think, or something that the iPhone is doing that other sources are not. But I just can't find it out, and I find it strange there is not more talk about this.

  • Slow video playback in Photoshop Elements 11

Playback of videos directly in Photoshop Elements Organizer is very slow. Video is stuttering.
Playing the same video outside of PSE11 with Windows Media Player is much better. Video plays without any stuttering.
Looks like the internal video player of PSE11 is very poor and provides slow performance.
What can I do do have the same video performance with the PSE11 player as I have with WMP.
I use Windows 7 64 Bit (8 GB RAM) with a Intel Core i3 (2330). This CPU has enough power to playback HD or Full-HD videos without any stuttering!!!
Why can't the internal play of PSE11 Organizer play my videos without stuttering - like WMP 12.0.7601.18150 does?
    Regards,
    Dodson65

The videos I use are created with different devices.
I have HD videos taken with a Pentax DSLR and I have Full-HD videos taken with a Windows Phone 8 device.
Both playback on my Laptop without any stottering with different software. I checked WMP and VLC. Even when using my Laptop with energy-saving profile these videos can be played without stottering.
When I playback the videos in PSE11 Organizer I don't want to edit them - just playback. So why should the internal player behave different? I agree with you - this might be different when I playback the videos in Premiere Elements 11 (as this is a video editing software). But when using Photoshop Elements 11 I want to be able to playback videos in the same performance as I can do with WMP or VLC. If Photoshop Elements 11 can't do that - why? The organizer of PSE11 is not an editor. It should be able to playback videos the same way (with the same performance) as other players on my laptop.
Can you please explain this sentence: "Have you started a Premiere Elements project yet that uses this video's specs? This will often trigger Premiere Elements to download the necessary components for interpretting the video." Is there anything I can do to improve video playback performance?

  • Problem with 5800 video playback

I am having problems with high quality playback on my 5800. When I transfer videos using high quality encoding through the OVI suite or through an external converter, and play it back on the phone, it practically never plays smoothly. it suffers from frame skips and hanging of videos in the middle of playback while the audio still continues in the background. this also holds true for the videos that came with the phone. is there any way to smooth it out. I am presently downloading the firmware update but I don't think it will fix the issue since it was not mentioned in the update list.
any help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

I installed the new firmware and, as I expected, it hasn't solved the problem

  • Video playback problems [6500 Slide]

Video playback at 25, 29.9, 30 fps is jerky, only 12.5, 15 fps videos play correctly... Lowering the bitrate or using a less complex profile/codec doesnt help much. Funny thing is, it can play its own videos which are whooping 640x480 @ 25fps and 2000-3000kbps [for comparison: the videos i encoded were only 320x240, 25fps, 200kbps] without a problem! O.o So, why has it problems playing my less complex to decode videos?
I tried following ways of encoding in SUPER:
    MPEG4
    h.263
    XviD (h.263/basic)
    320x240
    25, 29.9, 30 fps
    AAC
    2ch
    44.1kHz
    96kbps
    All jerky! :[
But halving the fps... Viola, it plays fine!
    Is this a known issue?
Will this be fixed in the next firmware? Hope so! >.
Cant nokia release some video coding tool with profiles for each phone model, to ensure flawless playback!? -.-
    Regards, KD

I found the intel driver doesn't like xv output.  In VLC go Settings > Preferences > Video > Output modules and set X11 video output. See if that works.  If it does you can do similar things to totem using something in the gnome-media package (can't remember what exactly of hand...)

  • Slow video playback in very high resolution X11

Hi everyone. I write this msg for ask your eternal knowledgement.
I have a very huge system (i7 3820 LGA2011, 8Gb quad channel, Gigabyte x79-up5-wifi, AMD HD5870 2Gb Eyefinity 6, etc) running Arch on it. The OS is updated. The Arch config is very minimal, using Fluxbox as WM and VLC and Mplayer to playback videos. The video driver is the latest stable Catalyst (13.4) and so on. I got connected six HD screens seted to a resolution of 1366x768. These screens are managed with xrandr, adjusted for considering the bezel compensation, using xrand --output MONITOR --pos X+BEZELxY+BEZEL.
When i play a video with mplayer (using the gl video driver) the movie shows very well and smooth, but when i pan the video all over de virtual screen (4194x1583 aprox), the movie shows very choppy.
The strange fact is the Conky reports shows me an 5% of CPU usage, so the system performance are not the problem.
The mplayer flags that i use to play this video are plenty, being the threads=4, gl:ati-hack and -root the most important.
If anyone can give me a hint to solve this issue, i would be very grateful.
    thx in advance.

  • Jerky 6500 Slide Video Playback

The spec says it should playback video in QVGA(320x240) encoded as H263 or Mpeg 4 at 30fps. I just cant get it to play anything back without it being extrememly jerky and even sometimes losing sync with the sound.
Stupidly I would have expected the software provided with the phone (Ulead Video Toolbox Basic) which asked for my phone version during installation to at least make videos which can be played on the phone. I've had the video stop on several of them during playback, and they're always jerky.
I tried encoding things in SUPER, that also provides jerky playback. Does the phone need to be returned, or am I doing something wrong? Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks :-)

I'm still on the quest to resolve my video playback issues. I recorded a video from the phones camera in it's maximum setting, 640x480 at 15fps, so i was kinda making the assumption that if I encode a video at QVGA 320x240, then because the video is a lot smaller it'll playback at 30fps.
I did an analysis of the video from the camera, and the interesting thing is that it has created a video using sound settings which I dont seem to be able to produce in any software, specifically it is using the AMR_NB with 2 channels, which doesnt seem to be an option with any encoder (including Super which is extremely flexible usually, in fact they say in their FAQs that it's not possible for this type of codec but nokia did it), does anyone know what can produce video conversion with these settings?

  • 6300 video playback dissapointment

I was given a new 6300 for my birthday and have just got round to swapping over from my old phone (SONY k750i), But im really dissapointed with the quality of the video playback. all the videos i had on my 750i played flawlessley, but in the much newer 6300 they appear all block and rough. The videos are in 3Gpp format. does the 6300 require a better format.

Hi, I too own both a 6300 and a K750i. The older SE phone has only a 220x176 pixel screen with 262,144 colour, the 6300 has a 240x320 screen with up to 16.7 million colours.
The increased pixellation may simply be caused by the increased resolution, on the 6300 you are more aware of the small inadequacies in the video because the larger, better quality screen is more sensitive to them. Even when not using landscape 'full screen' mode, the 6300 stretches the image over its full 240 horizontal pixels even through the 3GP format is usually 176 pixels wide.
Mobile video formats are not brilliant quality to begin with because they are heavily compressed formats to keep files sizes down. I have no major issues with playing files created by the cameras of the K750i and K800i in my Nokia 6300, my only issue is that of the three I find that the K800i is happy with more MP4 formats than the K750i and the 6300...

  • Video playback, Lumia 925

I searched for an answer to my problem and suspect I may have found the answer to want to confirm it.  I have a short video clip (3 minutes) that I want to put on my Lumia 925.  The video is in DV-AVI format from a MiniDV camcorder. The spec is standard definition PAL so it is 720x576, interlaced, with a frame rate of 25fps.  Despite the Nokia spec stating that the phone will play back AVI it doesn't want to know.  The spec also says it will play back mpg files so I have converted the file to PAL DVD compliant mpeg2 (720x576, 25fps, interlaced) with a bitrate of 8Mbps.  The phone won't play that either.  Now I am not a fan of high compression codecs but, as the spec for my phone says it will play back H264 mpeg4, I have converted it to that but retaining the original resolution and framerate.  I tried the file as both a .mp4 and a .m4v but it still refuses to even acknowloedge they exist.  I am copying the files to the Video folder in the phone but when I go to Music+Videos, Videos, it tells me there are no video files on the phone.
Could it be that the Nokia spec says the phone will play back 30fps so it doesn't recognise my 25fps files as being video?  Only SD NTSC video uses 30fps (well, 29.97 actually) while PAL uses 25fps so why doesn't a UK market phone support the UK standard?  I noticed that the video camera cannot be changed from the default 30fps either.

I guess you could use something like handbrake. Also check this.
