Video Playback Issue in Premiere Pro CS6

I am editing a video with 2 video tracks on top of each other. When I scrub through the timeline or jusy hit play in the timeline the top layer of video scales to about 50% and plays on top of the layer below it. But it didn't do that 2 days ago. Any ideas on what could cause that? I have attached a screen capture of what it looks like while playing back. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
::Premiere Pro CS6 (v 6.0.5) and a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9 on a SSD, and 8GB RAM::

They are both 1280x720 but they were shot on 2 different cameras. The thing that is killing me is that I have done this exact same camera setup and editing before without this issue. And it only scales the top layer video down while scrubbing or playing back (spacebar). When the playhead is still it pops back to normal.

  • Timecode video effect issue in Premiere Pro CS6?

Appears to be similar in description to the issue folks were having back in 5.5.  Here's the details...
    • New install, making the jump from FCP, first open of this PPCS6 install.
    • Source footage brought in as DVCproHD 720p @ 60 fps. Imported into new bin and then onto timeline in sequence 1... works beautifully.
    • New transparent video clip on track above footage, stretched to full production length.  Applied video effect > timecode to transparent clip.
    • I see the positioning crosshairs and darkened translucent box and the field indicator... but no rolling numbers, even after rendering.
Just need to make a TC burn of the footage and I've spent half a day trying to get the burn to work.
    Any ideas?

    Peter,
Thanks for your response, however, no avail, same issue.  However, I think I may have found what this issue's root cause is...  being a designer, I've far too many fonts installed (managed via Linotypes manager) with a conflict here and there, and I've had to use my customer's "helvetica" and other fonts on occasion.  I activated a new account on my computer (nice and clean fonts & settings) fired up the same document in Premiere and BOOM rolling timecode appears.  So with that solution in hand, my thought is somewhere I've damaged/lost the font in my base account that Premiere uses to generate timecode.  I wish it was a setting I could change in the timecode video effect to choose what font is used... maybe you could pass that on to product development?  Or do you know specifically what font it uses for the TC video effect?
Anyway, thanks for your reply... now I'm off to go see if I can fix the font issue in my base user account.

I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac, and the playback is really laggy. Its fine if you're viewing one long clip, but it gets really laggy when it switches between clips. The sound will play, but the playback screen will be frozen on the last frame from the previous clip. I use the latest thin model of the iMac. Can anybody help me?

Also, only having one hard drive means your computer is having to "struggle" with file operations
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -

  • How to obtain Video and Non Video Serial Keys for Premiere Pro CS6

Discovered that certain codec presets (specifically the AVCHD codec) was not available for Premiere Pro CS6 installed under Creative Cloud for Enterprise.
Understand there are two different serial numbers for use in installation. One of these serial numbers is labeled "Video," and one is labeled "Non-Video.
Where are these serial numbers located?   How are the serial numbers obtained?

    Hello Ann,
    Appreciate your reply..
Here is where some additional confusion arises (reference bottom part referring to Video Serial Keys)   Adobe support said that these Video Keys are to be purchased from the reseller (which makes no sense)
Error "...a sequence that could not be opened"
So, if I understand from your replies and what I have read - it is of the belief that by de-activating and re-activating will address the issue of the missing codecs.  Do you believe this to be correct as well?
    Thank you

  • 1 Second Playback Only in Premiere Pro CS6

I can't get video to play back for more than a second in Premiere Pro CS6. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? The files are from Canon DSLRs (T2i and 5D Mark III). These are just Quicktime files that play fine otherwise, and Adobe claims that DSLR files are natively supported in CS6. These files play fine in Final Cut Pro 7 and X, by the way. My MacBook Pro computer is 64bit compatible. This is stopping me from editing entirely. Solutions?

  • Working with video and photos in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hi Folks.
I am a LONG TIME Adobe Premiere 5 user.  NOT CS5, Adobe Premeire 5!!  Yes, from the 1990's!!  Recently I went back to college and taking advantage of the educational store, I treated myself to Adobe Master Collection CS6.  I LOVE IT!!!
I'm just back from holidays where I snapped loads of photos at 14Mpx and video at 720p HiDef on my camera.  I now want to compile a holiday video of my photos and videos telling the story of my holiday.  I always do this and in Adobe Premeire 5 I had it nailed down.  This is my first big outing with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and while I'm making some good headway with it, there are so many differences that I have a few questions...
    1.
My movie is being made at the resolution of my video footage, 1280 x 720.  My photos are MUCH bigger then this.  When I place a photo on the timeline, because it's much bigger then the video resolution I have to right click on it on the timeline and select Scale To Fit Screen or whatever the option is.  This works great as the whole photo then shrinks down to fit within the video resolution.  But it's a pain as I have LOADS of photos!!  Is there a way to make photos default to fitting on the video resolution when I place them on the timeline?  I don't want to resize them in Photoshop to fit the resolution as I plan to move and zoom into the photos as part of the video so I want to keep them at their 14Mpx size.
    2.
When I place a photo and a video side by side in the timeline, why can't I place a Cross Disolve transition overlapping the two of them?  The transition just overlaps the video start/end depending on where it is.  If I put two photos side by side, the transition will overlap the top of them on the timeline.  Haven't tried it with two videos yet.
That's it for now.  Making slow but good headway.  Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Paul.

Start by downrezzing your photos in PS to a more manageable size. If you don't need pan and scan, just use 1280x720. You can batch resize them in PS and it will make the editing experience a lot better, putting less overhead on the system and resulting in a much snappier response.
Read about handles in the Help file for transitions. You need extra material at the end on a clip and the beginning of the next clip.

  • MXF issues with Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello,
I am having trouble using Canon XF300 MXF files in Premiere Pro CS6 v6.0.2. I am using the media browser (tried icon and list view) to import footage (first importing to internal HD via the Canon XF Utility). I can import and play audio and video for all files under 2.05 GB but PPro limits any file longer than 30 seconds to  30 seconds.
Alos, Canon cameras cut files over 2.05 GB into separate MXFs. Most of my footage are interviews over 10 minutes long so I have 3 or 4 separate MXF spanned files for each clip. Premiere is having most trouble handling these files. First of all it limits them to 30 seconds each. Then, when I import them and drag them into a sequence it will only play audio from the first spanned file, even if video from the second sapnned file is playing.
I have tried merging all spanned files using Canon XF Utility's 'Export to MXF' function. As a result I have one 10 minute long MXF file but when I import it to PPro it still limits it to 30 seconds.
I made the change to PPro because of the ability to edit various formats in a single senqunce without tanscoding. I recently purchased a Sony FS700 and FCP7 couldn't really handle the MTS (or clipwrapped movs). Premiere handles them perfectly but can't handle the MXFs. So currently I am finding myself going into FCP7, logging and transfering the MXFs and transcoding them to .movs using the Canon XF plugin for FCP7 and then importing those to Premiere (they work fine this way)...but of course its a hassle to do with hundreds of clips per shoot.
I also noted that VLC 2.0.x versions can't handle the MXFs so well (video plays fine, audio at double the speed) but VLC version 1.0.3 handles them ok as long as I dont forward the video.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
Computer specs: Mac Pro 2.66GHz 12 core, 16 GB RAM running latest Snow Leopard update.
Clips shot at: 29.97 fps, 50 Mpbs, HD 1920x1080.

(first importing to internal HD via the Canon XF Utility)
Try skipping any special software and just use Windows Explorer (or Finder).

  • Crashing issues with Premiere pro Cs6

When I use Premiere Pro CS6 it tends to crash and it also tends tends to make the video pink and green looking, and it also sometimes flips it upside down and turns it black and white. So I was wondering if auto-saving had anything to do with it or if my camera or cpu had anything to do with it. I re-installed the program once, I also tried converting my video files to h264 before bringing them into Premiere. I use a Sony HXR MC1500p, and I am not using PAL by the way (or maybe I am and I am unaware), I really dont understand PAL and NTSC anyway.

1st. You don't have convert you videofiles they are AVCHD so OK for Premiere Pro.
2nd. The edit PC (with Pro pro) is far better off with Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU,  lots of harddiscs, >800 watt gold PSU, big CPU cooler etc etc..
3rd. Read a few hours at the hardware department. And you could build a nice machine for $1500,- to $3000,- yourself or order at ADK.

  • Why do I get choppy playback in Adobe Premiere Pro cs6?

    The playback is really choppy.
    What I am using:
    (Brand New) iMac
Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB
    Nikon D5100 DSLR
    Shot in 1080i 30 fps
    Thanks

I cannot believe how bad the playback is in Premiere Pro CC, and, how little help there is out there. Raw MOVs from a 5D plays back like garbage on my laptop or 8 core Mac Pro. Its ridiculous. I'm better off transcoding to ProRes and using FCP which works, or God forbid, go back to using Avid like its 1999. Unfortunately It has nothing to do with the two graphic cards or 32 gigs of memory I have either, it just plays back like garbage. Using the JKL keys is completely awkward because the lag between hitting the key and playback is excruciating. I'm at 1/2 resolution and it cant play back footage without being choppy. no FX, and the footage and hardrive is on a 6g SSD. This should be screaming.
Adobe, seriously, live up to your other products standards, they are so good, why does this one just bomb?

  • No playback in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello,
I am learning from a training book for Adobe Premiere CS6 using a trial version, and there is always a problem with playback where the clips don't play when I press space bar or the j,k, and L keys. I am using the minimum requirements on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and I understand it's not good to edit from USB which I am doing. However, is there any way to fix this playback issue? Sometimes it plays when I change the audio hardware settings.
    Thanks,

  • Audio Playback Issues in Premiere Pro 8.1.0 with AJA Kona 3

    Hi,
I'm supporting a couple of edits running the latest version of Premiere Pro. The editors are experiencing some strange stuttering/glitching audio playback via the installed AJA Kona 3 cards, manifested as follows:
When scrubbing using keyboard arrow keys for any prolonged period of time, audio either begins to stutter or fails to playback (despite there being activity on the audio monitors within the software)
When playing audio with unrendered effects (nothing too challenging, unrendered titles etc.), the audio will occasionally not play at all or will begin to stutter also.
    Specs are as follows:
    HP z800 running Windows 7 64-bit
    2 x Intel Xeon X5650 CPUs
    32GB RAM
    512GB Samsung SSD
nVidia Quadro 4000 (latest drivers installed)
AJA Kona 3 (latest drivers installed)
Wacom Intuos 4 tablet (latest drivers installed)
Storage is a SMB share connected via a dedicated 1Gb/s ethernet link (Intel PRO 1000 card) and media is largely DVCPRO HD 100 wrapped as OP1a MXF, with corresponding sequence settings.
I've played with various RAM and Playback settings (including setting the AJA video playback buffer to 'minimum' as suggested on another thread regarding audio playback), but the problems persist. Is there anything else I can try, or more information I can provide?

Since it worked with CS5.5, check with Blackmagic to see if they have updates for CS6
I know from other discussions that an nVidia driver update was needed for at least some people upgrading to CS6

  • Audio sync drift issues within Premiere Pro CS6, even with 48kHz project & source material?

Evening guys and Merry Christmas to those who follow the tradition. I'm currently doing a few last minute tweaks to a live dance show that I recently shot. The show featured music that was recorded in camera (via additional mic) from the speaker setup within the theatre. This was always intended as a guide track as the original music would then be synced in the edit to give a cleaner sound to the audio during the dance sequences. I have the original CD that the music was played from on the night, however when the files are imported into Premiere Pro (or even Audition), they sync for the first 10 seconds or so and then gradually drift out of sync as the track goes on.
My project is set to 48.000 audio, which was what the original footage was shot at, as well as the audio tracks being imported as 48.000 too. Now on paper there should not be any issues with this sync drift occuring right? I've even tried with 44.100 audio files and naturally they drift out of sync.
At a loss here really as I'm not sure where i'm going wrong. Can anyone shed any light on this situation please?
    Thanks!

  • Strange Green Playback Issues in Premiere Pro CC?

Hi, I'm having problems with some footage shot yesterday on a Canon C300. Was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
I backed-up the footage, imported it into Premiere and made a few rough cuts. I then left it for the day and came into work today to carry on (so I thought). When I opened premiere I was getting this weird green problem anytime I try to play the sequence. I created new sequences & new projects and tried the footage again and still same issue. I then tried some other footage we had, that was shot on a C300 (.MXF). Same issue. I can open the footage in VLC and Resolve with no problems.
A video of the problem can be seen on vimeo:
    https://vimeo.com/92148775 (password: ppcc)
    My setup is:
    Mac Pro 5,1 / 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core / 32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 memory
    PCI Cards (Internal)
Slot 1 ATI Radeon HD 5870
Slot 2 MiniSAS connection to external Cubix expansion chassis
Slot 3 Blackmagic Design Decklink 4K Extreme
Slot 4 SmallTree dual port 10GbE adapter
PCI Cards (External - Cubix Xpander Desktop Elite)
    Slot 1 NVidia GTX 680 4GB
    Slot 2 NVidia GTX 680 4GB
    Slot 3 NVidia GTX 680 4GB
    Slot 4 RedRocket
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am really struggling (I'm not the most technical of editors).
Anything else you need to know, just ask!
    Thanks

    1. What card do you have?
    2. Which drivers version are you using for the BMD card?
    3. Mac OSX or Windows?
    4. When the playback stops, do you see a small red icon down right in Pr's user interface and if yes, what does it say when you double click on it?
If i remeber correctly the Turn Off Dropped Frame Warning is a per timeline setting. I am not at the editing station now, so i can't check.
I assumed that 1280p50 was a typo in your first post and that you actually mean 720p50. Am i correct?
    Four questions, four answers please!

  • Intermittent, inconsistent playback problems in Premiere Pro CS6

Before I start: I'm not a computer guy, please be patient with me.
This is the problem that prompted me to finally post a question, though I've had similar problems before.
    I'm using a macbook pro, 15 inch, late 2011
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Premiere settings:
    Video Rendering and playback:
Renderer: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration
    Video
         Display Format: Timecode
    Audio
         Display Format: Audio Samples
I'm editing a video. Things were going great. Randomly, with nothing changing in the premiere settings, or my computer settings or ANYTHING (other than opening a web browser periodically to look up some troubleshooting advice), One of the audio clips goes out.
I rendered the work area. I rendered the audio. I deleted the audio clip and brought it back down into my timeline. The audio works in the source monitor window, but as soon as I bring it into the timline it stops.
This is incredibly frustrating. Mostly because I don't understand how something can just randomly stop working. This software isn't cheap, it should do what it's supposed to do. Being able to see and hear the video you're editing seems like a pretty fundamental function that shouldn't be subject to random bugs.
This clip was working fine a minute ago, now it's not.
    Help! Please!

New development: I deleted the file from the project window and re-imported it. It works now. BUT! That shouldn't have happened in the first place, right? If anyone can help me understand how to prevent this type if thing from happening again the future that would be awesome. I don't want to have to continually re-import various clips.
    Thanks!
