Video playback missing

I've installed and have been using CS5 Production for about a month now, but only recently started using Premiere since moving up to CS5, and I'm having some playback issues. Basically, video isn't playing back at all. For example, if I double click on a video in the bin, the source window stays grey, and all I get is audio playback. If I drag something into the timeline, again, the program playback window is blank. If I click on the window though (as if I were to adjust the Motion filter for positioning/scaling), then I can see a snapshot of the video, while paused. Scopes all work. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be the problem?
Running Win7 Pro x64, AMD x2 550 unlocked to quad, 8GB RAM, 5870 with 10.9 Catalyst drivers, and a 9800GT for Cuda/MPE. Issue persists even when MPE hack is disabled (card name removed from cuda supported text file). Have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, running on bare 5.0.0 and 5.0.2.

Ah yeah, sorry I forgot to mention the results of what happens when video from PPBM is imported:
Phil AVCHD 1.MTS and Phil AVCHD 2.MTS are imported without audio
Clip 01 18.mpeg and Ing85316_01.MP4 imports as audio only
Rothenburg.avi imports as a complete video clip (video and audio)
Initial problem persists, and again, all clips import and playback fine on CS4.
The list was mentioning which clips were importing properly, but as I said in the last sentance, the original problem of playback not working was still there.

  • A/V settings - missing video playback settings

I am a new FCP user (5 months) but have not been having too much trouble. I have been on Avid for 5 years plus; Thursday I imported some Avid NTSC 720/480 footage into Final Cut (29.97 fps of course) - which displays successfully. But now I cannot return to the settings I need to edit material in HDV 23.98 fps projects. The video playback settings for HDV 24p 60i are now all missing/deselected. What is more, the program is crashing a lot. No sound, no video playback. Clearly we need to make different projects in different admin users for Avid product - but how do we get our settings back? Help!

There is no such thing as HDV 24p60i... it's one or the other. In fact, you should be able to import or capture that material, place a clip in any sequence, and FCP will ask you if you'd like to set the sequence's settings to match the clip's properties, and you simply say yes.
Where are you having the problem? Which camera was used? There is an "easy setup" for HDV cameras, but they are different a bit from camera to camera... Sony is different than Canon for example... might try those too.
Try trashing your preferences for FCP found in User/library/preferences/fcp user data folder. There are three red and white icon'd files there. Just trash them, and they will rebuild to factory settings when you relaunch FCP.

  • Video Playback Fullscreen (missing)

I recently took my iMac in to have the logic board replaced, which was quick and painless, by the way, but when I got back to work on it, the Command-F12 -Fullscreen preview wouldn't work. Under the Preferences menu, the video preview option comes up (missing). Any Ideas? thanks!

Don't know what's going on there...works here with two Cinema Displays.
I've got Apple FireWire NTSC (mirror on desktop-checked) in my A/V devices tab of Audio/Video Settings...(nothing selected in 'Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video, because I'm not using that function in this workflow)
I can then just go to View/Video Playback/Fullscreen from the main menu and it goes right out to my second display.
Maybe has something to do with your Mac System Monitor preferences.?.?...not sure.

  • What is the best Compressor setting for best quality video playback on an iBook g4?

I know the iBook and G4's in general are very outdated today, but I need to ask anyways. I have some video projects in 720p and 1080p in which I have down converted to 480p and also exported to MPEG-2 for DVD (personal wedding videos and videos made for my clients using Final Cut Studio). Anything encoded at most resolutions using h264 won't play on my iBook. Even 480p.
I have about 20 hours of mixed video content that I need it in a format that is suitable for an iPhone 4 and an iBook 12" with a 1.2GHz G4, 1.25GB RAM and I added a 250 WD 5400 IDE hard disk (running 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 for Classic Mode). I know the iBook doesn't seem like the best tool for modern video playback, but I need to figure out which setting will play best with iPhone 4 and iBook so I don't need to make 2 local copies of each video for each device.
The iBook plays best with the original DVD output MPEG-2 file and playing back in QT Pro or VLC... but I already have 180 GB's of MPEG-2 files now and my little HD is almost full. I don't have enough room to convert all the iPhone 4 counterparts. If I use Compressor 3.5.3, what is the optimal setting for iBook and iPhone .m4v or .mp4 files that can play on both devices? So far 720x400-480 widescreen videos @ 29fps works great on my iPhone, Apple TV 2, and other computers but seems to murder my poor iBook if encoded with high profile (and still choppy on simple profiles). 640x480 (adding black matte bars to my videos) plays fine in MPEG-2 but drops frames or goes to black screen if I convert it to mp4 (and looks bad on the iPhone 4 because of the matte). But if I convert on any of the simple profiles, it looks terrible on my iPhone 4 and a blocky on the iBook.
This is the problem leading me to having 2 copies of each video and eating my hard disk space. What is the best video setting for both playback on the iBook and iPhone 4? Can the iBook playback H264 at all in decent resolutionsat all? I don't really want to have a 480p .m4v collection for the iPhone 4 and a MPEG-2 RAW collection just to play the same videos on the iBook.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • Higher volume for video playback?

    Hello everyone!
I am new to the boards and to the touchpad.  I have a question about adjusting the volume in video playback.  I woudl like to know while during the conversion process, are there any converters out there that can boost the volume?  I have been playing with Movavi, AVS, and Cucusoft.  I am converting an AVI to MPEG-4 or Ipad format, whichever is on the menu.  When I transfer the converted file, the video looks great and the audio plays back.  However, the volume to me is not high enough.  I have also used my headphones and it still does not play as loud as my iphone 4 and they are basically the same file and format.  I bought this because of the price and I am going on vacation later this year and I want to use it on the plane so that is why I am having the volume issue.  To me it seems it wont be loud enough on the plane.   Is there anything I am missing?  I have also tried to upgrade to the latest OS version but the TP is always coming back with the unable to connect message.  I am still working on that.  I cant get the web doctor to work but that is another thread.
    Thanks very much
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Ok, I think I have mastered how to convert my movies to play on the TP with no issues.  However, I need to somehow increase the volume level of the converted movie.  I have already installed the preware option that increases the internal volume levels, but some of the movies I have converted seem a little low for my taste.  I have been trying trial versions of several video converters such as DVD fab, Xilisoft, Cucusoft and others but I like Handbrake's track record and it's free!
What I would like to know is if there is a volume setting in Handbrake?  If not does anyone know a way to increase the volume levels when you convert movies any other way?
    Thanks very much.

  • Volume control for video playback through Apple TV2

I am trying to configure the volume settings used on airplay through apple TV2 and a macbook pro and Iphone4 all with most recent updates.
I am using the apple remote app on my iphone to control the apple tv.
    Whats working:
Using the pandora app on my iphone through aiplay to the apple tv, I can control the volume using the plus and minus buttons on the side of the iphone for volume control. Very cool and easy.
Using the apple remote app on my iphone I can control the itunes volume of different speakers by clicking on the airplay icon and using a slider.  Not as cool as using the hard +/- buttons but still works.
    Whats not working:
Controling volume on appleTV2 through the iphone remote app for video playbacks like netflix, and youtube.
Why I want this: RIght now I can control most of the multimedia right from my iphone including cranking the music up:) But when I switch over to video(Netlfix, Youtube) I have to get out another remote (stereo reciever) to control the volume. It seems we are so close to being able to control everything off the iphone, the only thing missing is volume control for video playback.
Is there a setting that can be changed or a solution I havent found?
    Thanks

Same problem with TV3. HDMI volume output is not adjustable, neither with the original Apple remote nor with any universal. Why ? Every simple settop-box is able to be volume adjusted. And a Mac Mini too ?!!!
I use a flatscreen TV. it has 3 HDMI inputs and one optical out for the audio going to an amp standing behind it. The sound of the TV is switched to go to the optical out.
HDMI 1 is connected to the satellite settop box with its  own remote control ( channel +/-, volume +/- etc. ) it work s fine.
HDMI 2 is connected to the MacMini HDMI out with its own remote control ( channel/music +/-, volume +/- ) it works fine too.
HDMI 3 was connected to Apple TV3 with its own remote control ( channel/music +/- but no volume ). I sent the TV3 back to Apple.
What's going wrong in the mind of Apple ? Why is the HDMI volume output of the MacMini adjustable with the Apple remote, and the TV3 not ?
I want not to discuss, wether a 4th remote control is useful or not. I don't want it. I want to adjust the volume with the originl remote control of the specific unit I use, because I need it anyway. It worked since years, but not with Apple TV3.
How can we help Apple to open the volume +/- function on their own remote control ?

  • Video Playback In Acrobat 9

I’ve been looking on this forum and if this problem is covered in another post, if you could point me in that direction that would be great. If you have an answer to this problem that would also be great.
We build classroom presentations in InDesign and export them to PDF for final output. We use Acrobat Professional to place the videos, audio, buttons etc. Everything is currently done in Acrobat 6.0.2.
We place the videos (not embedded) and play them with the built in player as the preference. We place .mpg movies that are H.264
We have not had an issue with videos playing in various versions of Acrobat until Acrobat 9 came out. Our two most recent programs are having playback issues with Acrobat 9 but previous programs that were built the same way are running fine.
We have switched up to InDesign CS4 from CS1. I have rebuilt part of a presentation in CS1 from the ground up but still have a playback problem in Acrobat 9 and Acrobat 9 with the small updates.
Our classroom presentations are broken down into modules and are built with multiple PDF files, one for each modules. It starts with a tile screen and moving through a few files with buttons built in Acrobat you get to the various modules.
    Here are the playback issues.
When we start from the title screen and use the links when we arrive at a video and click on the video it doesn’t play. If you then go to another module (different PDF file) and then back to the previous module (PDF file you were just at) and click on the video it will play.
I then tested just opening the direct module that contains a video. If you open the PDF directly and click on the video it will then play.
To do some further testing, with one of the modules containing a video, I removed all buttons in that file. When you then start from the title screen and navigate to the PDF file with a movie and click on it, it will then play. To follow-up on that test, I then added one button, navigated in from the title screen and then the video would not play.
Each time I did a new test, I shut Acrobat down and started it fresh.
If I did a test and got the video to play each of the following videos, in other PDF files would then play without any problem.
Our classroom presentation are set in full screen mode with the video as a floating window. I did test it out of full screen mode, and the same symptoms happen for each scenario.
Again, our previous 80+ programs are working fine, which makes me think there is something in CS4 that I am missing, but when I rebuilt part of on in CS1 it still had the same issues.
Our material is built on Mac and in class run on both Mac and Windows machines. The video play back problem happens on both Mac and Windows machines.
If I run it on Acrobat 7 or 8, everything works fine.
We will be authoring on a newer version in the future, but currently I’m trying to solve this problem on the video playback in Acrobat 9 (with minor updates).
If anyone has any insight into this issue please post a response.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hey Steve,
Thanks for the response. You are correct, we lay out the documents in
InDesign, them export a PDF. From that point on we are doing all the linking
and placing of video files in Acrobat 6.0.2.
It has been a hard one to get consistent to trouble shoot out. We hit the
glitch with 9 due to the new windows machines needing 9.
I have been working in 9 a little and it seems like when I place a mpg file
and accept that an external player will be used I can then choose the button
tool and it recognizes the movie, almost like a button. I don't know if that
is where some of the conflict comes from.
Last week I talked to our IT department about needing to move up to 9 and
getting comfortable with 9 before we transition as we will need to have all
our instructor laptops currently in the field updated. The pinch is we are
on a tight schedule and have to have two classes authored by mid-October.
After that we can look into a transition, but right now I'm between a rock
and a hard place for anyone with a new windows machine.

Subject: Video Playback In Acrobat 9
I'm sorry, John, it sounds to me like you are using the term 'Acrobat' to mean
everything.  I'm wondering if the files are being authored/created in Acrobat
6.0.2, then played back in Adobe Reader 9.  If this is the case, it certainly
sounds like there may be a bug in 9.  However, I would highly recommend
authoring these files in Acrobat 9.x Professional.  H.264 files are handled
directly by the new Flash Tool.  I've tested what I believe are your steps to
reproduce and my result worked fine.  I created a PDF that is just an H.264
video and set its playback property to play when the PDF is opened.  I also
set the PDF to open in Full Screen mode.  I then created a PDF that had
nothing on it but a button that calls the first H.264 video PDF and the whole
thing works great.  I did this all on a Mac.
Anyway, let me know if I have that right; you're authoring all of these in
    Acorbat 6.0.2.

  • DV NTSC Video Playback on external monitor

I can't get my DV NTSC sequence to play on my external monitor. I know I have the computer/Canopus/external monitor connected correctly b/c I can playback some of my old Final Cut Express sequences on the external monitor. I used that as a test to make sure everything was connected properly. Since I can rule that out, I must be missing a setting in FCP somewhere?
Sequence Settings are NTSC-DV; Compressor DV/DVCPro-NTSC
View>Video Playback is set to Apple Firewire NTSC
Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Thanks.

    Hi -
Go to the menu VIew > Video Playback and select Apple Firewire (720x480):
Then go to the menu View > External Video and select All Frames:
If you don't see an image, then go to the menu View > External Video > Refresh A/V Devices, then reselect All frames.
    Hope this helps.

  • Video playback on external monitor only producing still frame

I am trying to use a HD TV as a playback device as managed to get it to work, however it has now stopped working and only produces a still frame. When I hit play it will play fine in the timeline but display only a still frame on the second monitor. I have made sure that the settings under video playback are set to full screen and that mirroring is turned off.
Even when I play back on Main the image on the main monitor only displays a still frame until the second monitor is unplugged.
    Am I missing something?

    How is the TV connected?
If via firewire and an analog/DV converter, are you feeding the HDTV something other than a DV signal? If so, it won't work.

  • Error with video playback

    Hi,
I have a problem with the video playback on the ATV. In every movie I played on the ATV there is one or two errors during the playback. It looks not like a missing frame, its difficult to say, for a second, the picture on my TV is flickering. When i rewind the movie and play the szene agein, where the flickering was, its gone. So it looks like it is random, comes from the ATV and not from the movie material. Anyone see somthing like that?

I have this problem as well when playing downloaded video, I think it has only started since the last update (2.4??) screen flickers, loss of audio for maybe 1-2 seconds, sometimes screen goes black, then all is ok for some time then it will do it again. I also rewound to the problem spot, then played again and it's not there in the same position.
    Any clues anyone.

  • Video Filter missing: AE.keylight 906?

    Hi,
I am a complete noob when it comes to editing video in Adobe. I've been looking for a solution to my problem in other places, but my attempts were futile.
    Here's what I did:
I edited a video clip in Adobe After Effects, dealt with the green screen using Keylight, then exported my work as an Adobe Premiere Pro Project. Once that was done, I tried opening the project in Premiere and a window popped up saying "Video Filter missing: AE.keylight 906." I clicked OK and found that Premiere does not show my edited green screen. It merely shows the original - I think I'm right in saying that is because the video filter is missing, as the message stated. How do I fix this? Help please!
    Thank you for your time.
    MP

My guess for the choppiness would be that you used the default uncompressed render settings from After Effects; this likely made a very large file that, unless you have a really stout and fast hard drive setup (e.g. RAID), you will not get real time playback. Uncompressed is good in that, well, it's uncompressed and therefore doesn't add any further image degradation, but it can make for a lousy editing experience, as you've found.
Depending on what your source footage is (you didn't mention this originally), and what your intended destination/delivery format is, you might be able to use different render/export settings from After Effects for a more playable file in Premiere. Later, you could rerender the composition to the uncompressed version and replace the original; this will give you better performance for further editing in Premiere, and then later will give you higher quality output. This is often referred to as proxy editing, and there are a couple of ways you can go about this, if it's something you want to attempt.
Regarding the loss of edits when moving from Premiere: there shouldn't be any loss of edit points, necessarily, but what you might be thinking of is the loss of transitions. Since Premiere Pro works with tracks and After Effects works with layers, the two programs have different methods of representing and creating transitions (e.g. dissolves). In Premiere, you can put two clips next to each other in the sequence on a single track, and add a dissolve between them; however, in After Effects, a layer can only contain one footage item, so to create a transition between two layers, they must overlap. There are analogs for certain transitions--a dissolve, for example, is just a change in opacity of one layer that is over another--but other more "fancy" transitions must be recreated more manually. In short, you shouldn't have to worry about the timing of your edit in Premiere changing when moving to After Effects, whether you use Dynamic Link or whether you simply copy and paste from Premiere into AE.
Hope that helps a bit more. And Mr. Brougham is my dad's name

  • Nano Video playback.

Looks like you guys are missing the point. The capabilities for this device to play videos were discovered since the 2gig and 4 gig nanos. Now that they have made the screen brighter and increased the storage capacity, they should give the nano owners, especailly the 8gig ones, the ability to play video on them if they want it. I think everyone would agree that it would make the product even cooler.
please don't give me the " Why would they do that, they would loose sales on the 30,60 and 80 gig ones crap" because people are going to pick what ever they want regardless. There are already divices just as small as the nano playing video, so we should stand by our nanos and ask apple to make our nanos just as cooler then those devices.
In case anyone is wondering which device is competing with our nanos.

Looks like you guys are missing the point.
HUH? What point are you talking about? You haven't made a point yet for anyone to miss.
The capabilities for this device to play videos were discovered since the 2gig and 4 gig nanos.
    Not exactly.
Using a third-party firmware, the Nano was able to play uncompressed AVI files. The quality was horrible, and the file sizes were tremendous. Audio is barely supported. The Nano simply doesn't have the processing power to support compressed video formats of any substantial quality.
The 5th gen iPods have additional video hardware on the mainboard which makes high quality video playback possible. They are equipped with a BCM2722 Broadcom "VideoCore" chip, and the Nano is not. (EDIT: The original 5th Gen iPods had this chip... not sure if it's been updated or changed with the Late 2006 model.)
Now that they have made the screen brighter and increased the storage capacity, they should give the nano owners, especailly the 8gig ones, the ability to play video on them if they want it.
The Nano still lacks video processing hardware which would allow it to playback the video formats that are actually worthy of viewing.
I think everyone would agree that it would make the product even cooler.
I think you are wrong, and I don't think you, me, or anyone else are qualified to speak for everyone.
Just as there are different types of vehicles which serve different purposes... you have different types of iPods which serve different purposes.
I would not buy a Toyota Camry to go off-roading with. Nor would I buy a Nano to watch movies on.

  • Video playback is muffled

Video playback is muffledD I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium sound card. Music and sound effects from Window 7 seem to play fine. I don't notice any quality issues from the playback. But, if I play a video from email, go to You-Tube or even play a DVD then the sound from the playback is muffled. You can't even hear anything, voices, background music, etc.
I've deleted and removed all the drivers and software. Went to Creative and got the latest drivers for this card and I'm still getting the same results.
I can't pin point what has changed in the past week that would cause the problem. It has been operating fine since the end of October and this past week it went into the tank.
I tried restore point, but that didn't fix it either.
I'm look for any suggestions to get this back on track.
    Greg

    What that means is:
If you only have two speakers, or headphones and you tell your program that you have four or fi've, then it is trying to play the sounds to all fi've and you can only hear two.
If you have four or fi've speakers on your desk, and you tell the program or sound card setting that you only have two, then you are going to be missing some sounds. Go to control panel and sound, and speakers and configure, and there make sure you choose however many speakers you physically have. Do not choose "full range" speakers. Then in your program that you are listening to music or movies with, choose however many speakers you chose in the control panel earlier. If you have a setting for your sound card, or other software you are using, try turning that on or off. I have fi've speakers, for example. If I have a stereo song (2 channels) and I turn on CMSS-3d then it upmixes the song to all fi've channels.
If I have a dolby 5. movie that means the movie can play from all fi've speakers. If I set my speaker settings in the software to two, and I have fi've, then I wont hear all the sound. Also if you have a button, like I do, on your speakers that upmixes the sound, that may be doing the job for you, twice. I have a "matrix" button, which will upmix stereo to four or fi've channels.

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time

    Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • When I open Itunes on my PC it says, Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly

When I open Itunes on my PC it says, Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly. I removed some unused programs from my pc before this happened and I think I may have removed something I shouldn't have.

I had this same problem and my sixteen year old figured it out. Since the Windows PC running iTunes (which supports a housefull of AppleTVs) was running in a closet, he suspected it was due to having no speakers attached.
Sure enough, when I went into control panel to look at my sound settings, I noticed something I had missed previously. There was a red mark on the device. I took his advice and plugged in some earphones to the speaker jack and, wallah, the red mark turned green and the iTunes warning never popped up again.
