Video playback pauses in iTunes

The video we downloaded from iTunes regularly pauses during playback on our iMac. The sound and video are choppy. Sometimes the video plays and the sound continues; other times both video and sound freeze up momentarily. How do we resolve this? At this point, it doesn't seem worth buying movies from iTunes.

"Now, I can see my videos, but they are halting and out of sync with the words. I've upgraded my video drivers, display settings, and just about everything else I can think of, but I still do not have seamless video playback."
Hey Feenix,
So, what version of iTunes is running on the computer? 7.0.2.16? Also what version of Direct X is installed on the computer?(goto Start> Run> dxdiag)
This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610 will help troubleshoot audio issues. The article will have you edit "Sounds and Audio Devices" through Control Panel; make sure Sound Playback Default Device is set correctly(under Audio tab.)

  • Video Playback Pauses when streaming from iTunes to itunes

    Hi,
    I have a 2011 iMac running OS X Mavericks Server and I use this as my main iTunes library computer.  I also have a 2013 (latest model) MacBook Air running Mavericks.  My WiFi network comprises of 2x Airport Express's, both the latest models and configured for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz frequencies.
    Using Home Sharing, I like to stream video from my iMac's iTunes library to my MacBook Air.  The problem is that playback pauses every few minutes.  The only way to resume playback is to close the video window and open the video again.  This problem occurs regardless of video quality (SD, 720 or 1080) and on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi settings...  On the odd occasion this problem doesn't happen at all.
    I experienced this problem before upgrading to mavericks so I don't think its mavericks related.  And I don't experience this playback issue when streaming to ipad mini, iphone, or apple tv... It only happens when streaming from imac to macbook air...
    Please help if you have a solution.

    Try:
    ffmpeg -i rtsp://localhost:8554/test.sdp -acodec copy -vcodec copy -re -f flv "rtmp://168.187.121.71/livepkgr/mystream&adbe-live-event=liveevent"
    I don't strream ffpmeg from my source, but I stream h264 from my source, and this works when transcoding.
    Hope this helps!

  • Video Playback Pauses, freezes on laptop

    My Video playback (iTunes 6.0.5- G4 Laptop 15" titanium) constantly pauses and freezes at key points during playback. It will make it approx. half way through a show, then start jumping and freezing. Any Suggestions?
    Thanks for any help

    It's pretty annoying. 1/2 a show will play fine then all at once the pauses and spinning wheel is so bad that you can't watch the rest of the movie.
    No answers or clues as of yet. I guess no one else has the problem.

    Ok since discussions have been down all day since I posted, I don't think my post made it on the board, so here it is again:

  • Video playback pauses/freezes when I move my T500... also keeps dropping wireless connection...

    Video playback in Windows Media, Quicktime and in Firefox (youtube, etc.) pauses when I physically move my laptop. I've never had this happen on any other laptop. Any suggestions?
    Another annoying problem is that it drops the wireless connection in my home every couple of minutes. This doesn't happen with any of the other 3 laptops I'm running so it's not my ISP or router.
    Thanks for any help!

    The ThinkPad Active Protection System (APS) will protect the Hard Drive when you move your ThinkPad, and this probably causing the behaviour you are observing.  There are options for disabling APS for particular purposes, so you should have a look in the APS options... look in the ThinkVantage folder on your Start menu.
    Regarding your WiFi issues, you need to make sure that all the relevant power managment settings for WiFi are set to Maximum Performance (or similar).  This has been covered in numerous messages here already. so a few minutes with the serach function should provide you with more details.

  • Video playback problems in iTunes 10.5.2/3

    Hi,
    I'm running iTunes 10.5.3 on my MacBook Pro, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2, 2,66 Ghz, Intel i7, and I have some issues with my video playback.
    None of my movies/videos in iTunes will play. It's actually really annoying. I was having this problem already on iTunes 10.5.2. So today I tried reinstalling iTunes completely, due to the new version that came out, but I still have the problem. Any thoughts on the matter?
    Thanks in advance!

    I can't be the only one with this issue. It affects both my iTunes on my mac mini and my iBook

  • Video playback ISSUES in iTunes

    Hi, All.
    I've recently purchased a music video and a movie from iTunes to play strictly in iTunes--I don't have a video iPod.
    I had assumed that these videos would playback smoothly with the iTunes software, but I was OH-so-wrong.
    At first, the all I could see of the video was a halting, pastel-shaded blob. I consulted the Knowledge base, and did everything listed here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706
    Now, I can see my videos, but they are halting and out of sync with the words. I've upgraded my video drivers, display settings, and just about everything else I can think of, but I still do not have seamless video playback.
    Any ideas? Suggestions? Remember, I have done everything listed in the above link.
    Thanks for your time and help!

  • Video playback pauses for 100-200ms in mplayer

    but it's not the video files, because if I play again the part where the playback pauses occured, they don't occur the second time in the same place... what could be the problem ?
    before switching to Arch, I had this problem after I've upgraded to kernel version 3 while I was using Debian Testing, but the playback pauses were occuring much more frequently...
    Last edited by Chrys349 (2011-10-31 01:47:06)

    no errors and no messages in mplayer's output
    all options are:
    vo=xv
    ao=alsa
    mixer-channel=Master
    nolirc=yes
    nojoystick=yes
    font=Arial
    subcp=latin2
    subpos=95
    so far, I noticed these pauses during playback on every .avi and .mkv files that I've watched, and the pauses are random, they are not occurring twice in the same places in time; ram and cpu are below 100% during playback, even during playback of 720p .mkv's

  • Vista video playback problems after iTunes upgrade

    Itunes worked perfectly with my Vista OS prior to the recent upgrade. Since installing the upgrade, videos will not play (I just get a blank screen) and I am bombarded with messages about "authorizing this computer" every time I try to view one. I authorize the computer using the Itunes "store" link, and then get another request to authorize the computer with every replay request. After "authorizing" again and again, I still get a blank screen. The scroller indicates the video is playing, but there is no picture. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes, including the Vista "repair" option, but still have the same problem. I followed all the instructions--including using the "show artwork" option in the "View" link---nothing helps. Is it possible to uninstall the "upgrade" and reinstall the prior version of Itunes, which worked just fine????

    ADDENDUM: The exact same problems (repeated requests to authorize computer, blank playback screen) occur when I try to preview any video, so the issue is not related to any specific video purchase. The preview "plays", but there is no video picture.

  • Video playback pauses/loses audio

    I bought a 60GB 5G iPod in December. Used it without issue for a month. Then it completely died (blank screen - nothing). I sent it back and got a refurb replacement. I copied over all my audio/video to the new one and now have an issue playing back video.
    I'm using MPEG4/XVID, 320k, AAC audio, 320x240 videos I encoded with ffmpeg. Note that these files worked flawlessly with the first iPod I bought (before it died).
    The same files copied to the replacement iPod play for about 15 seconds, then pause for about 5 seconds, then resume playing without audio. The only way to get the audio back is to scan in either direction then resume playing.
    I called for repair. I sent in my iPod. I got it back several days later with it reformatted and a note saying they didn't find anything wrong so they just sent it back. I thought maybe the reformat fixed something but it's acting exactly the same way.
    Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I can do? Am I doomed to never play video with my video-enabled iPod?

    Brad..mine did the same thing and I received help here with the following message from Dre...
    This problem has been occuring especially with the 60gb iPod's. The best solution to this problem is to downgrade back to version 1.0 considering that you recently purchased this product your iPod probably came with update version 1.1 I have instructions on how to downgrade back to version 1.0
    Here are more detailed instructions on how to go back to 1.0, espescially if you bought your iPod in the last couple of months and it came with 1.1.
    First, please download the older version of the iPod Updater here...
    http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDW nw/iPodSetup.exe
    Now install that updater and restart your computer.
    Now open the iPod updater (Start-->all programs-->iPod and find the iPod updater you just installed
    Open the iPod Updater and connect your iPod. With that older version of the iPod updater you just installed, restore your iPod by clicking restore.
    The iPod will restore and go back to software version 1.0. Now reload everything back into iTunes.
    It does wipe everything off of your IPOD..but if you still have it in ITunes or on your harddrive...you're ok.
    Also keep in mind that whenever you hook up your IPOD from now on, it will prompt you to update to 1.1 again...just click cancel to decline and keep on keeping on!!!
    Good luck!

  • Video Playback Error In iTunes. Any Help?

    Hey. I just got a video from the iTunes store (TV Show), and it won't display on my pc. It plays just fine on the iPhone, but on the monitor it shows up as a green screen with pixelated sections. No audio, no video. Any suggestions? I've already tried everything in support.

    Hey sb521,
    If you can play other videos in QuickTime Player like the Movie trailers available through QuickTime or FREE ON iTunes content. The issue may be with the content you've downloaded. You may have to contact the iTunes Store support group: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
    If you cannot play the FREE ON iTunes content or Movie trailers in iTunes or Quicktime PLayer, the issue may be related to the software on your PC.
    Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX, this article has a link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24382
    You also may want to try uninstalling any codec packs or QuickTime plugins that you've installed.

  • Video Playback Issues in iTunes, MPEG4 vs h.264

    Has anyone had a problem playing MPEG4 videos in iTunes? I'm not sure when it started, but I first noticed it a month or more ago with the commandn mpeg4 podcast feed. I switched to the h.264 feed and it's great. The audio if fine, but the video is choppy. I also have been encoding Video_TS folders (legally, not commercial DVDs) using handbrake to .mp4 files, I get the same choppiness when I encode a regular file, but when I use h.264 encoder it's fine (but takes forever to encode). Any thoughts on why iTunes won't play MPEG4 video well? Thanks
    Dave

    Do you have any plugins? If so, have you try disabling/deleting them?
    Also, try creating a new user in Mac OS X and see if the same issue occurs. If it doesn't happen in a new user (which will have a fresh set of preferences), you know it's a corrupt preference in your main user. With that in mind, try deleting your iTunes plist.
    1.) With iTunes closed, go to Home > Library > Preferences
    2.) Find com.apple.itunes.plist and delete it
    3.) Restart
    4.) Open iTunes and test it

  • Video playback problems in iTunes 7

    Ok, I have been experiencing this issue since I upgraded to iTunes 7. I create a playlist of videos and I can't play them back to back. I am forced to play one video at a time. When a video ends, you have to manually double-click on another one in the playlist to start it.
    In iTunes 6, I could create a playlist of videos and just click play and iTunes would cycle through all the videos back to back.
    Whatever this issue is has even transferred over to my iPod and affects video playlists the same way.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

    I can't be the only one with this issue. It affects both my iTunes on my mac mini and my iBook

  • What's Up with these random playback pauses on iTunes that never get fixed?

    I was using OS X Lion, and it started there, now I've upgraded my MacBook Pro early 2011 (already upgraded to 16GB OWC RAM) to OS X Mountain Lion, the problem persists, and it gets worse, I don't know which music I can play that will not pause every 5 seconds.
    The worse part is, googling for `itunes pausing randomly' you see people complaning since 2008!!!

    What's Up with iTunes developers??
    I'm considering to abandon the native OS X music player.

    CleanMyMac is an unnecessary tool.
    It does not do anything for you more than OSX already does itself, and it slows down the mac a bit, can cause problems (although not having heard often.
    Please download Etrecheck  ( http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck ),  run it and paste the result here. maybe we can find the cause of the issue when it is not SoundFlower.
    That the problems were not there in the beginning of the "7 years" does not say anything: you are useing a totally different OS now (64bit and....).

  • Video Playback pauses in iPad 2

    I have a few music videos on my ipad and noticed that while it's downloading unrelated content, the video comes to a complete stop. I have plenty of space left too. Is this typical?

    You mean while you are download apps or a song at the same time that you are watching a video?
    the video comes to a complete stop. I have plenty of space left too. Is this typical?
    I don't know that it's typical. Having plenty of storage space available is not the same thing as having the available memory needed to seamlessly run all your apps if there are apps still running in the background. Maybe you just have too much going on at once if you are using apps that continue to run in the background when you are doing all of this. The iOS should shut down the other apps if the iPad needs the memory to continue running your current app, but too much background stuff going on might be part of the cause. From what I've read in many of these discussions, there really aren't that many apps that continue to run while you are "multitasking" so the memory should be there to do what you are trying to do.
    It could also be your Internet connection at the time you are doing this. Download speeds and your connection to the servers could have some impact as well.
    If you don't make a habit of doing this, try shutting your iPad off and restarting it. This will reset the device and that may help as well.
