Video Player Doesn't See DivX movies converted from VOBs

Hi Folks,
I've converted MP4, AVI, and m4vs to Div X and they work great.
However, if I convert MPEG2 ( Plain old DVDs ) to DivX, I can see them Synch and show up in the Playbooks file system, however they don't show up on the graphic menu within the Video Player.
Anyone else have this problem ?
I'm going to runeach video through G Spot, however, I was hoping someone might have a quick answer.
DivX should be DivX, irregardless of the source.

I think it IS possible to play DivX but with potential limitations. Now how to do it is a different story...

It sure is. It also plays on my PC using VLC Player. So, I know that it was burned onto the DVD.

My ipad VIDEOS app doesn't show the movie Names with IOS 7

I just upgraded to IOS 7. The Apple VIDEOS app no longer displays the file name for videos that don't have album art. I have to tap on each video screen shot (which is typically meaningless) to bring up the info/play screen to see the movie's "Name". Under IOS 6.1.4 (and prior versions) the VIDEOS app displayed the .mp4 file name underneath all videos without album art.
Is there an option to set to get the "Name" displayed on the VIDEOS main screen, or get a LIST view rather than an icon view, using IOS 7? (I have not found one)
Since most of my movies do not have album art this makes the VIDEOS app virtually useless.

OK, I gave up. You just can't fight city hall.
After messing with changing from 'Movie' to 'Home Video' I just said screw it. I just finished doing the following for my 64 'Home Video' movies:
- I did a Google image search on <movie name> poster
- I clicked on the thumbnail to bring up the image
- I did a right-click SAVE IMAGE AS
- I then did a GET INFO on the movie through iTunes
- I clicked on the ARTWORK tab
- I added the image I just found as the the artwork
- I change the MEDIA KIND back to MOVIE
- I then recopied the movies I keep on my iPad (about 10) from the PC
No more problems now either with viewing the local or Shared movie lists from my iPad. As I add new movies I will make sure to manually add the artwork. What a PITA.
Hopefully Apple will get this fixed. This movie UI painfulness (that wasn't even a problem on IOS 6.x) is something worthy of Microsoft.

Video Player doesn't respect video aspect ratio

I've noticed an error with the way the video player handles .m4v playback. The playback aspect ratio is wrong. The pre's screen ratio is 1:1.5 and the video is vertically stretching non 1:1.5 playback inappropriately. I'm not talking about the auto zoom feature (bottom right button while video is playing).
For example, I have tropic thunder which was created with x264 with a DAR of 1.19:1. I took the original 16:9 video and removed the black border on the top & bottom prior to the encode. On the iPod Touch & Sony Video Walkman (NRZ series), they correctly display the aspect ratio with the same file being used on the Pre.
The Pre should be *reducing* the vertical size of the video to match the DAR of the Pre's screen, but it isn't- and that results in people looking vertically stretched when they shouldn't be.

I do the same but there is a difference between SAR & DAR. When your application is resizing the video, the SAR is used by the encoder and dictates how many pixels needs to be present at a specific x or y quantity when resizing. That ratio is stored within the movie. The DAR of the display device has to be taken account by the player to properly fit the movie on screen and within proper proportions. This allows any movie at any resolution to be properly scaled and fit to the display attached to the playback device.
In the case above a 1:1.19 movie is not being properly scaled for playback on a 1:1.5 screen.
Also, 1.0.4 hasn't resolved this.

Some Audio Not In Sync When Movie converted from .avi to .m4v

I've downloaded videos in avi format and then converted them to m4v by using Export in QT Pro and selecting AppleTV with default settings.
The avi version plays ok right to the end but the m4v loses audio sync by about 1-2 seconds but only in the last 5 (approx) minutes of a 40 minute video.
Any way round this or should I look to convert with a different application?

The issue seems to be related to sample rate. Because there's no 'options' screen for the Apple TV quicktime preset, there is no way to correct it on the front end that I can see yet, but in the cases I have had I was able to correct it this way:
open the out-of-sync mp4 in Quicktime. Select 'show movie properties' from the window menu. Select the audio track and hit extract. Select Export: Audio as AIFF when the new untitled audio clip opens. Click 'Options' and change the sample rate to 32khz. after the audio clip exports, open the new exported audio clip in the quicktime player. Select all, copy, then back in your movie, select the whole movie, then pick 'Add to Selection and Scale'. You can then save the movie as .mov. I haven't tried exporting to Apple TV again, since this would typically take several hours, even though the video format should be unchanged.
I tried to simply change the audio sample rate and save in Mpeg Streamclip, but the resulting file was invalid.

Migration Assistant doesn't see the startup disk from the old G4

Hi,
I just got my new iMac and was about to transfer stuff from my old G4 which have two internal disks. But I stumbled into serius problems right away. Migration Assistant is not able to see the startup disk from the G4. It sees only the other disk.
I have tried to disconnect the extra disk and checked that the startup disk is forced with the jumper to be the master disk. With this configuration it won't start the G4 at all. Having he jumper in the cable select slot results to shut-up with the T-button (firewire) startup and normal startup without the T-way.
What should I do? I can't figure out what the problem is.
I enclose some System Profiler data of the problematic disk if this helps to find the solution.

Ok. This is really simple to do.
The idea of the dual drive iMac is that the System and Apps reside on the fast SSD and that the user directories reside on the HD.
You first need to create the same accounts on your SSD as on your old iMac.
The next step is to change the path of the user accounts from the SSD to the internal HD. Duplicate or copy the Users directories on the SSD to the HD.
Change the path in System Preferences > User & Groups > Unlock to make changes > Select User account in sidebar > Right-click > Choose Advanced Options > Home Directory > Choose the Volumes/your_hd/Users/user_name.
Restart your iMac and restore from Migration Assistant.
Remember to keep the empty directories on the SSD, in case you ever have a HD failure or replacement, you will have to change the path back to the SSD.

Flash player doesn't see built in iSight cam

Using an app that I want to give access to my cam and mic. iMac OSX10.6.3, Firefox 3.6.3., built-in iSight cam. Dialog box asking me to allow/deny comes up, but I can't click on anything.
Right click, click settings, can't make any changes to that dialog box either.
Went to Adobe Flash Player site, settings manager, Global Security Settings tab, typed website into box and set for allow. Note: on this tab there is a lock showing, but still allowed me to put site in.
Site is also "allow"ed on Privacy Settings Panel.
Camera Settings does not show iSight camera, but only Logitech Cam (which is not on computer). Same for microphone tab.
This also happens with Safari, and on my Macbook Pro, which is in a different location and a different network and ISP. At one point, I got it to allow access tby the website, but it still didn't recognize the camera. Reinstalled Flash Player and now back to square 1.
Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks.

I get this when I try to open the bb uploader in Firefox:
It is a static popup, meaning I can neither click allow or deny, nor can I close the window. Only option is to close the page itself. This on a MacBook Pro (late 2009 Unibody, 13" with built in iSight and Flash Player 10.0.45.2 (browser plugin).
I'd have to say the trouble isn't with the MacBook, or with Flash, but Igor's software in the bb upload. My Vista machine with a Logitech, initializes immediately after I click Allow, which I can't even do with the Mac.
As an aside, the VW does have the option to upload from your HD. You can simply take the pic using PhotoBooth, and upload it.

I was able to initialize the bb uploader using Safari, and selecting USB Video Class Video in the advanced settings.
Looks like it may be an issue with Firefox.

Howdy thanks for responding. I press the links to go to the first image page, then I click the video link to play and the screen just goes black. My OS is Windows Pro7 everything is up to date. I notice when I go to the adobe TV ? none of the videos play. YouTube plays. I tried using both Mozilla and Explorer

ITunes doesn't see a movie I purchased. What gives?

I purchased a movie on AppleTV last night. It is still on the AppleTV. I have synched with iTunes. iTunes has an icon for the movie in the movies tab. If I click 'play movie' in iTunes, I get the following message...."The movie 'Sex and the City' could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Of course, I can't "locate it" because it's on my AppleTV hard drive. It is still there, on AppleTV, I just pulled it up to confirm. Sync again....same problem. What am I doing wrong? I am going to lose this $15 movie?

Have you tried locating it in your itunes library.

IMovie doesn't see GoPro movies in iPhoto

Is the GoPro the wrong formatt? Do i need to upgrade iMovie?

Does imovie require anything else? i have the gopro hero3, my mac is OS X 10.5.8. (FYI-- i dont want to spend money to upgrade and the gopro was a gift.) What do i need to do to run it on imovie. Does anybody know an editing program under $100 that is 100% compatible with Hero3?

Dvd Player: When i insert a movie dvd from the store my .......

computer begins to play the movie and after about a min or so the movie screen minimizes to the desktop and then either shuts down the computer or puts it to sleep. Most times the computer shuts off once in a while it will just go to sleep. I have tried 2 diff dvd's and am sure they work on my dvd player in the living room. This issue is new to me so i am a bit lost.

Why doesn't my subscription to convert from PDF to Word work? It worked about a month ago and my account is relatively new.

What website do I go to in order to download a file from PDF to Word? I have an existing account and was able to do this successfully a few weeks ago. I just can't remember where I went to do this. When I clicked on my Adobe icon I got the advertisement to order the conversion package (which I already did, when I was able to do the conversion before). My subscription is for one year, and I just got it last month.

Which is "better" when converting from VOB: MPG, AVI or DV or ???

I am not a techie, but following the advice of posted by Steve Grisette, I was able to download the software from Squared5, which allows me to convert my old VOB's into other formats. For some reason, I chose the MPEG conversion and they do play in my 9.0. I have other choices. I think Steve suggested the AVI format.
Can someone succinctly me tell me what is the bottom line for someone who wants to import VOB files and edit them eventually and restore them because the color on the 1950's film had washed out. Which is best?

How do I know if this is type 1 AVI or Type 2 AVI, which, as you say, is best?
