Video plays on Macs but not on PCs

I have a short movie on our web site. It plays just fine on our iMac, and I checked it out on another Mac at the local Apple store. However, it does not play properly on PCs. The movie window shows up, but the screen stays white. The audio plays just fine, but no video. This sounds like a derivation of the same problem others were having, but ours does fine in Safari but not in Explorer. I've made a new page, and exported the movie to iWeb from iMovie, but it still did not help. This is a new iMac that we just bought 2 months ago. Everything else on the web site works fine. Your iMovie QuickTime file uses the H.264 Video codec (default for exports from it) and it requires the viewing machine, Mac or PC to have QuickTime version 7 installed to view it.

like my subject line states, i transferred a whole bunch of music videos off of dvd into mp4 format using videora.
they play in itunes but not on my ipod.
i transferred about 400 or so at the same time to ipod do you think that's why most of them won't play ?
should i do it one by one ?

it's more than just the mp4 format. They need to be encoded correctly with the right dimensions and other attributes as well. I don't bother with this sort of thing right now. If there is anyone who has these specs, just post them here. Otherwise, you can always google them or search these boards for the proper format/size/encoding.

Video plays in iTunes but not Apple TV.

I'm having trouble with playing movies on Apple TV. I had a video that I converted to mpeg4 format. 640x384, 1138kbps total bitrate, 23 frames/sec. I can play it in iTunes and in quicktime but not through Apple TV. It just perpetually loads...
I can play any of my music from the same home shared computer on my Apple TV with no noticeably loading time. The total file size of the movie is 785MB.
Does anyone know why this can't play on Apple TV and if there's something else I need to be doing?

Google and download Handbrake, and convert the video for AppleTV format. Not everything that plays in itunes or QT plays on AppleTV.
There are many variants of MPEG4 and parameters that can make AppleTV fail to play it. Best to convert to the h264 variant which Handbrake will do by default using the AppleTV preset (don't use preset 2 for a silver AppleTV 1).

Videos play on iPhone, but not MacBook (page generated by 'Save for Web')

I have QT 10, and I wanted to post a video I made on a personal webpage. I used the 'save for web' option from within QT 10, and it generated the usual ugly HTML page, the MOV file, and the source files that I specified. I edited the HTML to make it look a bit prettier and added the extra content I wanted to have, and uploaded it to my webserver (page is located at http://www.mripatientsafety.com/NERHRM/Resources/NERHRM_TGilk_on_MRI_Safety.html).
The video played when I loaded it on my iPhone, but wouldn't load / display on my MacBook in either Firefox or Safari. I thought it might be something wrong with the MOV wrapper file, so I changed the HTML to skip the MOV and point directly to the MV4 file, but the exact same symptoms persist.
I don't do this often, but I have used the 'Save for Web' feature maybe a half-dozen times before, and I've never had this problem. At this point, I'm thinking that the problem might be:
I'm a dummy and goofed up a section of code and didn't realize it.
There's been updates to Firefox and Safari since the last time I tried this (perhaps a year ago) and they now are unfriendly with the way that QT 10 prepares the HTML.
I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer to help make sure that the video displays properly for the greatest number of viewers.

I am trying to import the files to my Macbook Pro (10.10.3) via Photos, and it will not allow me to import them.
I receiving the below error message:
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may to contain valid data).
Reason: The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912.)
The file types are .mp4 and .mov
Any ideas or recommendations?
I have done a Hard reset, soft reset, and tried resetting network settings.
I have done a Manual Backup to computer and did a backup to iCloud- but I have not restored the iPhone yet, as I am not sure if the files are being backed up or not?
I also tried using a third party transfer app (AnyTrans) to transfer the files to my computer hard drive, but it would not allow the transfer and kept skipping the videos which won't play back (even though it recognizes them - but won't play them back).

Video plays in swfiles but not when uploaded to website

Hi, does anyone have any idea why videos embedded in a swf
file play okay in the swf file or when tested as a movie on the CS3
stage, but when uploaded to my website will not play? I am
completely baffled by this.

On the Bolivia and Chile page the videos do not appear once
the video is uploaded to my website. I have no idea why this should
be when the actual videos play perfectly well within the swf file

problem or not once uploaded

couple of times (with the same .mov file) you get the same .flv but
the name of your video is incremented by one each time?
Pretty well much I followed this tutorial

I put a FLVPlayback component on my Flash stage.
I encoded my videos in the CS3 video encoder and followed the
settings given in the above tutorial link. I did not resize or crop
the videos, I set the quality to medium and I gave my videos a name
prior to encoding it.
After encoding the film, I highlighted the FLVPlayback
Component and in the parameters found the content path and then
linked that to my encoded videos one by one. Then I saved my
worked, played it in the movie tester and then I exported my swf
file to my Dreamweaver folder, but I did rename my exported file
(it is not the same name as my Fla file). Could that make a
difference? I also put my Flv videos in the same folder as my swf
file and uploaded them to my server. I put the swf file on my html
page and then uploaded that to my server. My website shows the swf
file but the videos do not appear at all. However, the videos do
appear in the actual swf file when I play that.
I would be grateful to know if you see anything wrong with my
working process here. Could the renaming of the exported file have
caused the problem?

Flash videos play in preview, but not live website...

I have embedded .FLV video files into my website. The videos play in my preview browser with no problems. When I upload them to my live site, and try to view them on the web, there is just a white space where they are supposed to be, and they do not play. The url of the webpage with the video is :

Video plays on PC but not my Macbook Pro-comes up as blank disc

Hello, I have a DVD with a video on it that plays fine on a PC but on my Macbook Pro it says that it's a blank DVD and will not play the video that is on the disc. The video plays on Windows Media Player when I open it on a PC, so I installed the newsest version of Flip4Mac thinking this would work, but the disc still shows up as a blank disc and cannot be played. Do I need a different software or is this something that cannot be fixed? I work in the legal field, so I got the DVD from an attorney, and I frequently tend to have problems opening videos on my macbook pro that come from the legal field.

What format is the video? Is it .wmv? Do the DVD's have any type of protection or encryption? This information will help in finding a solution.

Importing MVI videos play on Ipad but not thru iTunes

I have used the import function to load photos/videos from a Canon G12 to view the results on the iPad. The videos are MVI format. All the files play fine on the iPad by going to the "All Imported" tab under photos. Including the videos! But if I try and load the same videos with no change in format going through iTunes either in the "Photos" tab or the "Movies" tab I get the file format error and they won't load.
So is the only way to load via iTunes is to convert the files to an MP4 format? Like HandBrake?
I guess I could continue to load them using the import photos path. I have been successful using a drive connected to the Apple adapter with the root file name DCIM.

Maybe he means the copy protection has not been removed. But what would explain the video plays on the iPad?
Basically, the difference would how AirPlay (and how your TV) handles copy protected material.

Videos play on iPad, but not on Apple TV

I can watch a video on my iPad, but when I use AirPlay to send it to my Apple TV and then to my TV, I just get the rotating circle on the TV screen.I should say that this does not happen with all videos, just a small number. Also, my AppleTV is hard wired to my home network.
Any suggestions?

I have iDVD 6.
The PC drive recognizes / sees the DVD files I created using iDVD in the drive, but doesn't load or play anything. When I look at the DVD it doesn't show any file that would load anything, just 1 video and audio.
ALSO I like the look of the DVD when it opens at a certain size. It keeps opening at full screen size, is there any why to make it open at a specific size and have the option to expand to full screen?

• Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min) - BEST
• High Performances (movies less than 60 min) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (movies up to 120 min) - slightly lower quality than above
2. From
• FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov
• iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
• iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Use iMovie HD 6
3. I use Toast™ to make an as slow burn as posibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disc. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
5. Verbatim ( also recommende by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD

iDVD quality depends on:
• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
• What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choise.
• What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
• What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
• How You encode and burn it. Two settings
1. go to iDVD pref menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better)
2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding.
That's about it. Now You should get an as good copy as Your original movie can supply.

Video plays on Computer but not on Ipod

I have a video that I converted using DVD Decrypter and Videora Ipod Converter, the video works fine on my computer and off of Itunes and it transfers fine to my Ipod but when I try to play it off my Ipod it just shows a black screen and then returns me to the videos menu. I'm running a Windows XP Pro, 3 GHz with hyper threading, 512 Mb of RAM, DVD drive, CD Drive, NVIDIA FX 5200 and Sound Blaster Live 5.1. Does anyone know what Im doing wrong? Every thing else works fine, anyone know what to do?

Have managed to duplicate this problem. It appears that if you make an alias of your movie and add it to the iTunes library, iTunes is smart enough to create a "self-contained" duplicate in your designated iTunes storage area. If, on the other hand, you create a "reference" movie and add it to iTunes, then the actual reference movie (not "self-caontained") is save to the designated iTunes storage location. Further, in the latter case, there does not appear to be any error trapping for this event during either the file to library transfer or the actually sync of the iPod. In any case, attempted play of a sync'd reference movie results in the described problem.
Hope this helps... Attempted to inform Apple of the problem but their iPod Feedback area is itself in need of a proper update.

Wma files play on Mac but not in iTunes?

I have a few .wma music files which play great in the Finder (the usual set of music controls in the preview window) and also in QuickTime, but I can't get them into iTunes where I want them.
Since the Mac has various ways it recognises and plays these files, it must be a simple matter to get them into iTunes, no? Trouble is, the (no doubt) obvious answer hasn't hit me yet!
(The long-winded way would be to output the music from QuickTime on the headphone socket of the Mac and record it on my hi-fi minidisc, then record it back to iTunes via Griffin iMic, but that seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut, as well as losing something from two further sets of compression, WMA > ATRAC > AAC).
Anyone help?

The "long-winded way" isnt' necessary if you're willing to spend a bit of money. You can convert them with EasyWMA or with QuickTime Pro and the Flip4Mac import codec (not the free version) and so save a few steps and conversions.

Burned dvd plays on Mac but not on player

Welcome to the Forum.
The most likely reason for consumer DVD players to skip or stop on DVDs that play well in computer DVD drives, are excessive burn errors that the consumer players 'choke on'. All burned media (CD and DVD) has burn errors. Burning at lower speeds tends to reduce the error level, hence the recommendation to burn low-speed media for maximum player compatability. Computer DVD drives have a high level of error correction (after all - you wouldn't want to loose any data on a data DVD) and can handle the errors. Consumer DVD players don't - after all they are designed to playback pressed DVDs with low error rates.
Some consumer DVD players are more sensitive to these errors than others.
Sometimes using a different brand of media will help.

I embedded a FLV file on my company's website. It plays fine in Firefox, but doesn't appear on the website in IE. What am I doing wrong?

Video plays in Dreamweaver but not on Website

I inserted flash (.flv) video clips in dreamweaver cs6 and when previewed in dreamweaver, works with all browsers (chrome, safari, and firefox). I uploaded the files to my website and none of the videos work. I've been troubleshooting this issue for several days and lhave not found a solution. I desperately need help.

MM Rollover menus were/are a total train wreck. Adobe removed them from CS5 onwards.
As Murray already said, APDivs are pure poison in primary layouts, etc...
In short, this site could use a good re-build with modern, standards compliant code and an HTML5 video player.
