  • Video podcast won't download?

After installing the latest version of iTunes on my G4 iBook the video podcast will not download, an error message pops up right when the podcast is done downloading. I was able to do this with the older software.

I am having the same issue and then some. Itunes will only load a couple videos to the ipod. It will quict the installation of the the movies saying it's a bad format. Also my ipod will not play podcasts and it'll shut down. I didn't have these issues before installing itunes 7. I have heard of the issues with itunes 7 and wanted to see if anyone else is having issues with communication and play back on the ipod.

  • Video podcast only playing audio on iPod

    Hi,
In the past (iTunes 11.4) I was able to download a video podcast from a website and link it to iTunes by adding it to the library. It would automatically show up in home videos so I would right-click the file, get info, and then change the media kind to podcast. It would then join the rest of the episodes in podcasts. Then when I synced my iPod it would copy the file to the podcasts app and I could watch the video.
Now using iTunes 12.0.1.26 when I repeat those steps the podcast joins the rest of the episodes in the podcasts section in iTunes and plays as a video in iTunes, but when viewing the podcasts in episode list view the video icon is missing (although strangely it appears in the standard podcast view). And when I sync the podcast to my iPod and I play it through the podcasts app it plays as an audio only podcast. When I check the file system at /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/Fxx the video file is there and can be played as a video using the default video app, so there must be something iTunes is doing to tell the iPod to play it as audio only.
I have noticed in iTunes that when I get info of the previously added podcast episodes that it shows video properties whereas the newly added episodes do not and if I select new and old episodes at the same time and try to Get Info a message pops up saying "Your selection contains more than one kind of media." Whereas if I only select the new episodes or only select the old episodes, it doesn't pop up.
Also in Get Info, under options, the new episode show an option for equalizer (although it is greyed out and cannot be change), whereas the older episodes do not. And under Sorting, the new episodes have an option to sort podcast whereas the old episodes do not.
*(Old episodes refers to episodes added in iTunes 11.4, new episodes refers to episodes added in iTunes 12.0.1.26)
    Thank you.

Hello, I just had success getting things to work once with podcasts then tried it with iTunesU after I could not repeat it with podcasts. I had the same problem, What I ended doing with iTunesU I'm sure you can apply to podcasts it appears to be an iTunes 12 issue not an iOS issues but affects iOS devices 6,7,8. I just got lucky with solution. I am quite vague on what I did, so in coming days ( had enough today) I'm going to attempt it again and write an exact procedure. but while its fresh in my mind this is what I think I did with iTunesU to get same functionality as podcasts. Firstly talk about what we use to do, as you would do in the past I i used get info then changed it to podcast, as we know that won't work and files play as audio only. So I got my (the ones that wouldn't work on iPad but did on the mac) podcasts in iTunes and selected all (contents of podcast) then get info, i then changed them on mass to home video again( it protests but you continue). I then went to normal library ( can't recall what its called these days) created an empty playlist folder, then from my standard library i dragged all videos into it. I then selected all get info changed to iTunes U (i tried podcast i did succeed once but could not repeat) also changed institution and and instructor ( i think they must be in to work????)( I would say as it relates to podcasts you follow a similar procedure, my gut tells me its not working due to missing fields, we must work out which need filling in)
From there plugged in iPad clicked devices tab, strangely then left the actual collection in question unchecked, however below that box is another that says include items from playlist, i checked mine that i created earlier , playlist will only appear there if you went through the painful approach at start ( i.e. in get info you made the whole playlist is of type ' iTunes U' , I assume will be a similar case with podcasts). I then synced. didn't think it worked, then closed app on device and opened it and perfect there it was and it played video and then played next after etc
I am sure i have unnecessary steps but it was guess work. once I've refined it ill post technique. I'm certain it all hinges on making other fields right other than podcasts and them all being changed to the same at the same time. was weird that include from playlist worked rather than collections. that is probably key too.
Hope this is helpful, just a disclaimer i included to much info because the answer is in there.

  • Running itunes 10.6.1.7. did reorg of lib to new struct. reorg left all video podcasts in old folder. I cannot view video podcasts itunes or download. help please.

I just installed itunes 10.6.1.7. on a new PC connected an external hard drive containing my itunes library and pointed to my library on an external hard drive.
I also did reorganization of my library structure via "organize library" menu option. The reorg left all video podcasts in the old podcast folder and will not let me copy them to the new podcast folder.
From the itunes store I cannot select a new video podcast and download and view it in itunes. The podcast will show up but the file or episode has a "GET" button next to it and never shows it as available to view in itunes. I have attempted to download many time with no success.
I have podcasts that are all video podcasts and some that are mixed audio podcasts and video podcasts. in both cases the video podcasts remained in the original folder location.
The video podcasts are not in movies or in tv shows. All music is present and accounted for that I know.
How can I restore all video podcasts previously downloaded and view them on itunes or an ipod?
Can I create a video podcast option in itunes?
    Please help.

Issue solved - It turns out that the QuickTime version on my PC was 6.5 and I needed to update to version 7.6 or higher to allow videos to play in iTunes. I updated to QuickTime version 7.7 and then added the old podcast folder to iTunes while in podcasts. This found all video podcast content and then the auto reorg moved all folders to the new podcast directory. For the videos I manually moved earlier, I had to move (not copy) them back to the old directory or folder then add that old folder and they were now in the right directory and viewable in iTunes.

  • Video podcasts no longer sync with iPod Touch

I am using latest version of iTunes 10.1.1 (4) and latest os 10.6.5 on MacBook Pro with iPod Touch (gen 3). I subscribe to a video podcast and in beginning it worked, but for last 2 months though they download into iTunes and I can watch them, they are either not syncing to my iPod or I cannot find them. Before they were in Podcast list along with audio podcasts.

Yeah I noticed some videos we'rent syncing to my iPod 5th Gen now that I switched to Mac, and reformatted my iPod, and was reminded that some items wouldn't transfer. These were certain podcasts, as well as a HD TV Show Episode. (I thought HD TV show purchases came with a SD version for iPod, but maybe it got lost in the transfer or I deleted it sometime)....but WHATEVER:
If you want, you can convert any video file to a format that fits iPod/iPhone, or even iPad/Apple TV, here's how:
Select the video item(s) you wish to make a compressed version for, and click ADVANCED on the menu bar. Then select "Create iPod/iPhone Version" or "Create iPad/Apple TV Version" depending on what you are syncing too. If these options are greyed out, it means it is not necessary to do this as those devices already can support the file as is. iTunes will then convert, and presto, you have a copy which will go onto your device!

  • The "converted by iTunes" Video Podcasts not appearing on the iPod

    Greetings,
I have downloaded some (old) video podcasts from the Music Store. As they were old files; I realised that they were not suitable for the iPod 5G, while trying to sync to the iPod. Then I converted them by using iTunes itself via 'convert selection for iPod' function.
Then, as it's a known case, an error message appeared on iTunes that not all the files were transferred to iPod, blah blah. (Because the unsuitable files will also remain on the iTunes, as well as the converted ones.)
So to get rid of that error message, I have chosen to delete those old and unsuitable files which I would not need anymore.
When I update my iPod, everything seems to be ok, no more warnings on the screen, etc - but the problem is that those converted 'suitable' files do not appear neither on the Video Podcasts folder, nor in another video folder on the iPod. But they are on the iTunes, within the right folder (videos -> podcasts), together with a newly published Video Podcast of the same series - which is the only one appearing on the iPod.
Is the only chance to view them changing their folders from 'podcasts' to e.g. 'movies' folder? Or is it just another bug of iPod G5 which really starts to disappoint me these days?
Does anybody experience a situation like this?
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    »iMac G5|rev.B 2.0ghz 1.5gb-ram   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   »iPod shuffle|512mb »The iPod|5G 60gb software1.1(regret)

Reconverting the files normaly changes the original podcast meta-data. Download and use a meta-data modifier utility (like Lostify) to reinsert the proper tags.

  • Video podcasts won't play, cause ipod to freeze

    Hi there,
My 5.5g ipod won't play video podcasts. I've downloaded several different ones, made sure the "TV Out" is turned off, and played with several other settings, all to no avail. When I open one from the video>video podcasts menu, the screen goes black, sometimes it says "Loading" with the little "play" arrow in the top left corner, and that's all I get. It freezes, and I have to reset.
I've also tried restoring the ipod to factory conditions, which didn't work. The podcasts play in iTunes, so that's not the problem.
    This thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8969818&#8969818
also seems to describe my problem, but I can't find a solution there.
Anybody have any ideas for how to fix this? Thanks!

It's up to the producers of the podcast whether they make their video podcasts iPod compatible or not. It's certainly not a requirement for an iTunes Podcast feed which is, perhaps, unfortunate. You could try sending the producer feedback but even if they take any notice it won't affect podcasts you've already downloaded. The *Make iPod compatible version* rarely works (somthing to do with whether audio & video are separate or multiplexed to start with). I suggest you download SUPER which is capable of converting almost anything to an iPod version. You have to navigate through a bunch of links before you get to the actual download, but it is there - just ignore the links to other commercial software on the way, SUPER is free.

PS. On my current setup SUPER generates the odd error message while running but still produces a working output file...

  • Video podcasts not copying to 5G ipod

I have a 5G 60 video ipod and prior to updating to itunes 7 all was well. I downloaded video podcasts from the itunes store- macbreak video and podsurf
tv. Both podcasts are not on my ipod. I have an imac intel desktop. here's one
message: some of the videos in your itunes library, including the video "macBreak 14: automator photoblog," were not copied to "dave's ipod" because
they cannot be played on this ipod. Why aren't these video podcasts copied to my ipod? My ipod software is up to date and I am not using a pc.
I can still buy music and tv shows and copy them to my ipod.
Reading the discussions has me thinking something be wrong with the itunes
    update.

I had the same problem with a Happy Tree Friends episode, Eyes Cold Lemonade. I just converted it to M4V with PQ DVD to iPod converter, but it does't show as a podcast, just video. One option...
Maybe if there is a way to delete it and re-download it, it might work that way... I'll have to try that.

  • Video podcasts won't transfer to iPod - it's not a format issue

I've been watching the video podcast "Wallstrip" www.wallstrip.com on my iPod. Just the other day I noticed a problem with my iPod software (v 1.2.1) and performed a restore. THAT problem was fixed (clicking play all in a list such as genre just scrolled songs but didn't play them) but now there's a NEW problem: The Wallstrip video podcast, which USED to transfer and play just fine, is now identified by iTunes as one that won't play because it's not the right format. Clearly there's a problem with the iPod. I've looked at forums and I am aware that one can manually convert it to "movies" but that's clearly not the problem. If it worked yesterday and doesn't today something's screwy. Ditto for the "Planet TV" podcast. Anyone know what to do?

i have the same problem. several of my video podcasts have stopped transferring with the same format error which i know is incorrect.

  • Video Podcasts No Longer Transfer to iPod - Work OK in iTunes

I am subscribed to a couple of different video podcasts - recently when I sync, I get the message that they are not copied to the iPod because the iPod can't play them. Same iPod, same podcasts as before.. The podcasts do play correctly in iTunes, they just won't sync....
    Any ideas?
I have done a restore on the iPod, and that made no difference.

The videos play in iTunes without trouble... Shouldn't that indicate that they should play on the iPod?
Also, I know that the podcast format has not changed - I am actually the one that produces the podcast. I subscribe to be sure they are posting correctly.
    A sample is:
    http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/news.xml
    http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/weather.xml
    http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/sports.xml
Yes, it's sad that I produce/post the podcast and don't know any more about it than this, but at this point, I'm trying to determine if something is wrong with the way they are being done (which has not changed at all) or something goofy is going on with iTunes and/or my iPod.

  • Video podcasts not showing up on iPod

Since the recent update of my iPod, my video podcasts are not syncing to my iPod.  When I sync with iTunes, I have all the podcasts (both audio and video) selected to sync but only the audio podcasts are available to me via my iPod.  What's going on here?

OK, so there they are in a new place. Would have been courteous for Apple to give some clue that they were moving things around. Especially because the video podcasts still show up in iTunes in the same place as the audio podcasts, same as before. Thanks for tip, lllaass.

  • Video PodCast Doesn't Work (Even When I Try to Play it Through Video)

I have a 60GB Fifth Generation iPod. If I download a video I can only hear the audio- I cannot see the video. This happens if I try to play it through the "Podcasts" button or if I go through the "Video" button (as suggested in a previous posting). The video works fine on iTunes on my computer. How can I view it on my iPod?

I have the same problem and i just spent 7 pounds on videos for my ipod!!!
    Need help!

  • Viewing videos/podcasts in actual size in iPod app

I want to view podcasts and videos that are available from iTunes downloads (such as iTunes U) in actual size.
However, my iPad iPod app always blows them up to full screen, which looks awful if they are iPhone size or even 640x480.
How can I get iPod to display actual size, as Quickplayer Pro does?

Check page 58 of the iPad user guide.

  • Video podcast will not upload onto iPod. Dimension changed!problem!

I usually subscribe to a specific vid podcast but lately i have noticed that my ipod will not sync the new vid podcasts. it's very frustrating! i have had a closer look and realised that the vids that don't sync into my iPod have a larger dimension 852x480 compared to the old 480x270. This is an MPEG-4 file. What is the problem? What should i do? Can i adjust the dimension? if yes how? I'm not sure if this is the problem but if there are any suggestions i'd appreciate them.

When the Sync finishes, do you see a message saying something like "video xxxx has not been transferred to your iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod"? If so, you could try highlighting the video in question and clicking on *Advanced/Create iPod or iPhone version* (it will be different wording if you are using iTunes 7 or earlier!).
However, unless iTunes 8 has "improved" this feature, it takes along time to convert and it does not always work. I gave up with the conversions.
The "problem" is probably caused by the Podcast producer changing the format of their Podcasts, possibly for a good reason. Check first in iTunes or even on the Podcast producer's web site, do they have a different Podcast (of the same programme) especially for the iPod and you are downloading the wrong one?
(Out of interest, what is the vid Podcast you are referring to, did you subscribe to it in iTunes?)
After that, you could try contacting the Podcast's producers to let them know what has happened. Bear in mind though, that Podcasts are produced independently of Apple/iTunes and are intended for all makes of MP3, not just iPods. So they may not care that only iPod users cannot watch it.
    Good luck.

  • Video podcast won't play on iPod

I know others have had the same problem, but since I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements none of the answers have worked for me.
I'm a relative newbie producing a new video pilates podcast: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=218657379
    Feed: http://pilatescenterofbend.com/corecast.xml
Everything is working with the feed/iTunes/etc except for ipod playback.
Using the tech specs supplied by Apple I export the videos with the following settings and PE 3.0:
    Video:
    Apple MPEG4 compressor
    Spatial quality: 50
    640x480
    30 fps
    field order: none
    square pixels
    bitrate of 1 mbps
    Audio
    Apple lossless codec
    16 bit stereo, 48 khz
Premiere elements 3.0 has an "export to ipod" option that uses the h264 encoder, but i wasn't getting good quality while limiting file sizes with that option. And the ipod tech specs say you can use .mp4 files.
    I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance of any help you can offer.
Dell Inspiron E1705   Windows XP   Adobe Premier Elements 3.0

I'd like to try to get it right w/ Premiere so i can
avoid the extra step of QT PRO. That would also add
another layer of compression, degrading video
    quality, wouldn't it?
I'm woefully unfamiliar with Premiere. But a Google search showed me that there's an export option to iPod settings. With Final Cut Pro you can export your finished sequence using QuickTime settings, and by choosing to Export to iPod you've got a direct encode from the FCP timeline to iPod-compatible MPEG-4/H.264. Premiere seems like it can do something similar - just one step, no extra layer of compression.
