Video Podcast issue with iPod Video

Hi
I just upgraded from 60GB photo to 80GB video and am having problems playing back some video podcasts. It plays back some but not others. The ones that don't work have audio but the video is jerky, i.e. it looks as if it is playing a still slideshow. I have checked the problem videos in iTunes and they play fine in there.
Regards, Simon Smith

If anyone knows of an answer to this problem, I'd be grateful as well... having the same thing happen with a couple of my video podcasts as well.
Cheers,
Darren

  • Major issues with iPod even after restore

I have a 120 GB iPod Classic and it was working well but I transferred some videos and some of the files got really messed up on it. First the languages got corrupted and most Asian characters wouldn't show up. I plugged it in and then ejected it after looking through my songs and that fixed the problem.
Then I found out a bunch of the videos on the iPod were not opening for a while, then when they did, it only showed a really messed up screen, and the iPod was causing the computer to freeze whenever I did anything in iTunes. I deletes those videos, and it froze the computer, and after a long time I took it out and those files did actually end up deleted. I tried to transfer a few files, and it took hours (maybe 3 hours of podcasts) and then when it was done, I ejected safely, and lo and behold, all my files are totally corrupt. I did a Restore, and then it seemed to fix most problems, and I tried transferring music to it. After about 200 songs, the transferring began to freeze for minutes at a time, and finally completely stop moving and freeze iTunes. It keeps alternating between the "Connected - Eject before disconnecting" image and a "Synchronizing" image. I tried to Restore again, and then transferring more stuff, it happened again. Sometimes the computer tells me to scan and fix errors with the external device.
After a few more tries of restoring, it keeps freezing after a certain point. It holds up my entire computer when it does it, and the iPod sometimes makes clicking noises when transferring. Loading up certain videos is extremely slow, and the thumbnail it's showing for my videos is an extremely staticy screen. I think the hard drive is corrupted, but wouldn't restoring the iPod fix that? I don't want to do anything else to it right now, since it'll still play some music alright, but there's massive issues with it that I can't fix, and most of my music is now gone. It seems to be taking tons of time of clicking and not doing anything to transfer even the smallest file, and sometimes it just freezes entirely. It seems like it's a specific part of the HD that's actually experiencing physical damage, but I don't know.
Can anyone help? I've tried everything I can do, but I feel like the more I try to fix the worse it's going to be. My warranty lasts until November 30, and I'm wondering if I can just get a replacement.

    Just an update:
I connected my iPod again today, and this time I tried transferring just 1 file to "check if it would be better." The 1 song still took maybe 15 minutes to transfer and froze iTunes for a while, and then when I tried to eject it it kept telling me the files were in use by another program. Well I tried to Restore it, since obviously something was screwed up. Same error. Everything became frozen when I tried to click for my iPod's information in the side bar. Then I manually unplugged it and plugged it back in, Windows tells me to scan and fix errors on the drive, I didn't because that causes explorer.exe to freeze up, and then I restored the iPod again. Right now there's only 3 playlists on there, and I think that's well below the danger zone, but I don't know what's wrong with it or what to do about it right now.

  • Issues with iPod nano 7th gen UI

    Hi,
I just received an ipod nano 7th generation and am having issues with the UI. I am having to double tap every icon in order to open music, videos, etc. Also I cannot swipe to the second page of icons. Whenever I try to a black box appears around an icon and then switches to a different one anytime I swipe. A box even appears around the time and battery power. Has anyone else had this problem? Im starting to get frustrated with the seeming lack of responsiveness of the touch screen. Thanks

Try turning off VoiceOver. On the iPod go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> VoiceOver -> set to off.
The black boxes you describe appearing around the icons is a sign that voiceover is active. I had the same problem with mine until the Genius Bar helped me.
    Hope that helps.

  • Major Issues with iPod Touch - Please help!

Hi, I am having major issues with my iPod, and nothing seems to be going right. It all started a few days after I got it for Christmas. I would wake up, and my iPod would be completely discharged even though it had a full battery and was turned off. I woke up one night and found that it came on all by myself. I sent it into iPod, and they sent it back saying nothing was wrong. Since I got it back today and within six hours, I have had four software crashes to the point where I have had to uninstall iTunes and restore factory settings four times. I am now on my fifth crash, but this time, the screen won't even come on. It keeps saying that it is in recovery mode. I simply went to turn it on! Does anyone have any suggestions? Personally, I think there is a short, and that I need a new a replacement. However, it doesn't seem like Apple is very supportive of the idea. I go through all of their steps over and over and over, and the same thing happens! What is going on? Please help.
    Marie

sounds like, for the charging problem anyways, that you are just putting ipod into "Stand by" mode... press and hold the power key for about 10 seconds and an option to power off will actually come on.. if u just press it and let go, it just goes to stand by.. i have noticed stand by drains my battery
also, it doesn't sound like a short to me... the charging i am pretty sure is bc you are only putting it into standby however, the rest sounds like software.. did u try and restore using itunes or did you just reset the factory defaults?? Plug it into itunes and click restore under the ipod menu...

  • Battery Issue With iPod Classic?

I have my iPod hooked up to my radio so it usually just charges that way, but I kept having low battery so I decided to charge it all the way and then reboot it and when I rebooted and the iPod turned back on it went straight "to low battery" or "no power remaining" and it never use to do this.

    Hi Jay504,

  • Sudden issue with ipod mini and itunes

    Hi
Up until yesterday I have never had a problem with my iPod then I connected to iTunes (again never had any issue with this) and iTunes said that the iPod was in recovery state. After some messing about which didn't lead to the issue resolving itself I hit restore. The restore seemed to be fine and iTunes then recognised the iPod.
However everytime I now connect my iPod at the top of iTunes it says 'Updating iPod' for a few seconds and then switches to 'OK to disconnect'. I can't copy anything onto it using iTunes so am stuck with an empty iPod now.
Any ideas on how to resolve?
    Thanks,

I'm not certain I understand the problem: have you re-installed iTunes 6 and now are unable to purchase iTunes Store music?
I have an iPod Mini and have used it flawlessly with iTunes 7 on both a G5 iMac and a G4 Cube under 10.4.7, so "incompatibility" is not the issue here.
iTunes 6.0.5 indeed does continue to allow iTunes Store music purchases...if your problem persists, get back to us here with more info!

  • Anyone else having issue with ipod scrubber bar?

Anyone else having issue with the ipod scrubber bar? Can rarely get the thing to appear, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Then, once it's open, good luck making it go away.
Anyone else notice any funky, non-responsive, inconsistent behavior?

So you're having trouble just tapping the album artwork when a song is playing and the scrubber doesn't toggle on and off?
I'm not getting this funky behavior with 2.1.

  • Sound issues with Ipod 5th Gener

When I plug my headphones into my ipod the music continues to play through the speaker. I have to twist the headphones jack around some in order for the music to finally play through the headphones. If I bump the ipod or try to exercise with it the music stops playing through the headphones or plays through the speaker. Is anyone dealing with a similar issue or does anyone have any suggestions? I sent it in to apple, they ran diagnostics on it and found nothing wrong. Is it really that sensitive?
    Thanks!!!!
    Ivey

I'm having the same issue with my Ipod and this is the first big issue I've had with it in over 4 years.
I have been told by a lot of people that it's the audio jack gotten loose. At one point I actually had my headphones taped down on it for my to get music and only through the left earbud.

  • Podcast problem with ipod shuffle

I have several podcast in my ipod shuffle but i can only listen to the first one, the others won't play. What is the problem?

On the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle, podcasts are treated as playlists.  The episodes of a particular podcast are like songs on a playlist.  You access them using the shuffle's playlist menu, using the VoiceOver feature.  This document describes how to enable and use VoiceOver on a shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4322
Each podcast is its own playlist.  So, if you have one episode each from different podcast, each podcast selection from the VoiceOver playlist menu will only play one episode.  That may be what you are describing.
If you want to play episodes from different podcasts consecutively (without going back to the VoiceOver playlist menu to select the next one), you should create a new (regular) playlist in your iTunes library.  Add the podcast episodes that you want on the shuffle to that playlist, and put the episodes in any desired order.  Sync this playlist to the shuffle by selecting it on the shuffle's Podcasts screen in iTunes, where it says Include Episodes from Playlists.  If you don't understand what I mean by this, please post back.
When you play the shuffle, set its power switch to the play-in-oder (middle) position.  Use VoiceOver to select the playlist (not the podcast) from the playlist menu.  The podcast episodes will play in the playlist order that you set up in iTunes.

  • Video Playback issues with Ipod and Itunes

OK I just bought some episodes of a TV show last night, and I put them on my ipod(5th gen. 30GB). About halfway-sometimes 2/3-of the way through, the video stops playing, no audio, no movement, just stops like it is paused. I deleted them off my ipod, made sure my ipod was up to date, and put them back on. Problems still there. Then i went to watch them in Itunes, and in the same places they freeze again. Itunes is up to date too.So now i have these videos that i paid for, that don't work completely on either my Ipod nor on Itunes. Help Please?

the good news is that you have pretty much isolated the issue. if the videos don't play completely on either the ipod or itunes, then the videos or tv shows are possibly corrupted. what you can do is contact the itunes store via a web form ( click here to go to form and scroll to the bottom)
tell the itunes store your tv shows have playback issues and say the same thing you posted. the itunes store should allow you to re-download the tv shows.

  • Sync issues with Ipod video

Hi - I just got my daughter an ipod video, and rented her a movie and I can't get her ipod to sync - it says the required "disc" is missing. I've run it through all the diagnostics and they check out okay. I'm a total novice, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Janet

Same problem here - music syncs - tv shows do not.
Just for the record, I have not purchased an Apple product yet that has not had extreme issues (iphone was the last one and an Apple I purchases for video editing).

  • Mac/pc issues with iPod

I have a PC and my ipod is formatted for windows. The past couple of days I had been listening to music on iTunes through my iPod on a mac. Yesterday I did this and then disconnected it and listened to it in my car just fine. Today when I disconnected it from the Mac and went to listen to it all my music and videos were gone but photos were still there!
I plugged it back into the Mac to see if my files maybe ended up in the trash bin when I dragged it there to eject it, they weren't, however when I opened iTunes on that Mac it recognized my iPod and all my stuff was still there! I once again disconnected it (this time ejected it through iTunes) and my music still wasn't there on the iPod.
When I got home and connected it to my PC to see what it would do and it won't recognize it at all. I get the "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." message. It's almost like it somehow got formatted for a Mac even though I didn't tell it to do so and yesterday things worked fine after using it on the Mac. Also, the Mac seems to think it's still formatted for windows b/c in iTunes where the option to update the iPod is, it says this is only available for iPods formatted for Macs.
I then connected it another mac (not the one I'd been using previously) and now the computer won't recognize it! It doesn't show up in finder, on the desktop, or in iTunes. When I plug the iPod into the computer I get the "do not disconnect" message on the iPod screen, but it doesn't show up anywhere on the computer. Also, if the iPod is connected to the computer then iTunes won't load until it is unplugged (w/o ejecting since it won't show up anywhere)
Help! How can I get all my files back?

Try turning off VoiceOver. On the iPod go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> VoiceOver -> set to off.
The black boxes you describe appearing around the icons is a sign that voiceover is active. I had the same problem with mine until the Genius Bar helped me.
    Hope that helps.

  • Syncing issues with iPod Touch - missing albums & artwork

What do you do when you have synced your whole library but some albums/songs haven't transferred? Then when you try a second time, ALL artwork disappears from the iPod Touch? I daren't try syncing again as I don't know what's going to disappear next.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Issues With Ipod Touch Memory

Whenever I try to download more applications on my ipod I get the error that says the disk memory is low and that I should delete stuff before adding new applications. So I deleted a few apps, all my video and photos so I only have a few applications on my iPod touch and I still get the same error. I know there should be lots of memory left on my ipod, being that my friend and I have the same songs on our ipod touches and he has many more apps than I have, including the ones that I have on my iPod. I am running OS 4.0. Thank you.

If the low-memory problem is with the memory (RAM) vice the flash storage, resetting or powering off and then back on will solve that problem. However, if the problem is with the flash storage then syncing may reclaim that memory but a reset may be required if the iPod behaves like an iPad. Users have reported that deleting items from the iPad does not always reclaim flash storage and that sometimes restoring is required.

  • Battery Issue with iPod Photo - Battery confusion?

is anyone aware of a problem called battery confusion?
my iPod which I am sure had a reasonable bit of battery life on it now appears to be demanding I connect to the mains power. A logo of a "plug and a scocket" indicating the need to connect to the mains is permanantly on my ipod screen.
I have done a soft reset on the device, got the Apple logo but when it repowers it will not get past this "plug and socket" image on the screen.
Normaly I charge my iPod with the usb cable on the PC however this does not seem to do anything and my iPod charger is at my parents house miles away.
Any help with this would be apreciated

The iOS 4 is probably the issue and there isn't much you can do about it.
