Video Podcast Playback Problem

I have an issue where a single video podcast cannot be found by the iPod app on my iPhone.
+ The video Podcast is downloaded to my PowerBook's iTunes Podcast library and will play from there.
+ The video podcast in question is checked.
+ The iTunes and iPhones settings are correct, other video podcasts download and play.
+ When I sync the iPhone I can see the podcast is being downloaded to my iPhone in iTunes.
+ I've tried resubscribing and have looked at the file details on my PowerBook and it doesn't differ from any other video podcast.
The problem is that when I open the iPod app on the iPhone and click Podcasts the podcast is not listed. It is only true for this one podcast. Others, like The Onion video podcast are listed and play.
Searching the iPhone from the top level the iPhone finds the video podcast by name so it is for sure on the phone. Clicking on it starts playback like any other video podcast, but there is only a blank screen.
One workaround I found was to create a playlist on my PowerBook that contains podcasts. If I do this then the podcast can be played on the iPhone from this playlist and from the top level search. This is a workaround though and I would like to understand why the iPod app can't seem to find this one podcast.
Thank you for your help.

This problem was fixed with the iPhone 3.1 software release. For those who are curious the video podcasts that were not showing up were from SnapStream's Beyond TV.

  • Video Podcast pause problem

Actuating pause during playback of video podcasts causes the video window to close. This happen using either the new on-screen pause control or the Tray controller. This requires having to restore the iTunes window and restart the video.
This behavior started with version 7 and the 7.0.1 update has not fixed it.

Newer updates have solved t he problem.

  • Annoying video/DVD playback problems on new Mac mini (2010)

I have a Mac mini at home right now, latest edition (2010).
I am very surprised to find that DVD playback exhibits signs of stutters here and there. Not huge stutters, but I can constantly see small "skips" and what seems like frame drops here and there. Playing back the same DVD on a $120 Blu-ray-player shows no sign of this behaviour.
I have tried this on two different TV sets (one 720p and one 1080p), and the mini is not able to play back a DVD without these stutters/skips. Two different blu-ray players play the disc just fine (I have been using Ghost Dog to test - check chapter to and the scenes containing panning, it's easier to notice that way).
It seems ordinary video files playback (files from HD, 720p, mkv) exhibit some of the same behaviour, though this seems more dependent on which app is used for playback. Quicktime seems worse (noticeable stutters/skips), VLC 1.1 a bit better (though both DVD playback and file playback show signs of stutter), while XBMC is the best of the three, with very little frame drop (if that is in fact what it is).
Any idea what's going on here? Why will such a expensive machine with HDMI output not play back video properly, while a cheap Blu-ray-player does it just fine?
    Are there any known issues?
(sorry for posting this in the wrong from earlier!)

I have not used the dvd player app in my 2010 mini, but I've certainly played every media type under the sun since receiving it.
It plays them all without dropping frames, stuttering, pausing, etc.
Are you using dvd player with dvd disc images, video ts folders, or actual DVD discs in the drive?
If you're playing a disc image or video ts folder, are you accessing them over wireless networking? If so, try them on the internal drive, or over a wired network connection.
Try turning off the option is in energy saver that allows drive sleep (system sleep can stay where it is, just turn off *hard drive* sleep).
For best performance, make sure you aren't running other apps besides the media player app that you're using at the time.
Make sure you don't have software or utilities running background tasks (such as disk warrior, drive genius or tech tool pro).
If you have external devices connected (including printer and/or scanner), try the system without them connected. Does the video playback improve without them connected? If it does, then try reconnecting them one by one to figure out which one of them is related to the problem.

  • Video Podcast Playback Issue

I am having trouble with downloaded podcasts showing "This movie format is not supported" when I try to play the successfully downloaded video podcast on my iPhone 3G. These movies are .mov QuickTime files, but they will not play in the iPhone's iPod. I am running software version 2.2 on my iPhone. Is this a bug or does the iPhone's iPod not recognize Apple's own movie codec?

There have been several issues with the "In Rainbows" video podcasts. Originally (first week of December, 2007), they were released as (thumbs_down versions), which were huge files and had transfer errors (iTunes would eventually stop downloading after hours of hanging time...). I submitted feedback to iTunes which forwarded it to Radiohead. Since then, the files download perfectly, however the only podcast that is ipod ready is the "In Rainbows" Promo episode. The podcasts need to be MP4 or M4V files. Since Radiohead's revision to their podcast files in mid-December, the files are all MOV files, which will play great within iTunes but need to be converted to play on ipods. Kind of ruins the idea of a video podcast when it can't sync with ipods without some kind of funny business...
The transfer should work fine, but I wouldn't doubt if there are issues with the latest podcast files posted online (by the band or whoever handles this sort of thing). One suggestion is to search for SCOTCH MIST: A FILM WITH RADIOHEAD IN IT. This is the final video (52 minutes) by Radiohead that combines all of the released podcast files and includes other video. It is on youtube as of midnight, Jan. 1. Radiohead released this final video project in celebration for the New Year.
    Enjoy.

  • Video Podcast Playback

Hi, downloaded an Extras episode from i-tunes which started to play ok and i was able to view the programme. When I went back to it a couple of days later the video would not play - I only had sound and a picture clip showing on screen. Also, as the podcasts played back the sound was jumping.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi, thanks for your response. The setting was already as you said. The podcast disappears from the ipod once you have viewed even a little of it - even though i have it set to 'keep all episodes'. Couldn't check if the Extras episode was in the video section as it seems to have disappeared - it is showing in itunes under 'recently added' but i can't find it on my ipod. HELP please!

  • Podcast playback problem

    iPhone 4S  OS6
I'm having a problem listening to podcasts.  Everything was working fine but now when I try and play a podcast it cannot be understood as it seems to be playing at least triple the normal speed.  I've tried four different casts and they all do it.  I can't find a way to adjust it but it must be there someplace.  All other audio apps work fine.  Help please.
    Thanks in advance... Bob

    I found the answer.

  • Video Clip Playback Problem

when trying to run a video clip it starts over from the beginning after about 20 seconds. Any ideas?

I am still struggling with the project and hope that you can help me further. I first converted the jpegs to psd files as they always displayed in the project panel and scene/timelines. Previously large batches of the jpegs showed offline status, only cured by clicking on the green button at the left-hand corner of the icon. This was very time consuming and out of curiosity-despair I converted to psd files.
However when exporting to PC-Windows Media the process failed at the end (2hrs 40mins): Windows Media is out of memory. I have 4GB of RAM, the project is just over 3GB in the exporting dialogue box. I viewed the scratch disk dialogue box and approximately 240GB  (C: drive) is allotted to the various parts of the project.
I bought an extra 4GB of RAM but for some reason it won’t work in my processor; when I switch on there is a ‘no signal’ message on my screen. If I remove the native RAM and substitute the new RAM the result is the same. I will ask the store to run a check on the new RAM if that is possible.
I read your (Bill) article relating to downsizing jpegs to 1000 x 750 pixels. I batch processed them in Photoshop and gave them a try. I rendered the project before exporting. Why is it rendered a second time when exporting? The result was the same: windows media is out of memory. I deleted a batch of video clips but the result was the same. I exported to DVD and again it was the same.
The only transition that I use is the two second of cross fade. The project contains approximately 400 jpegs and 40 video clips (.mov format, 29fps 720). In most cases I have split the clips and applied the transition. In the majority of clips I adjusted brightness and saturation, and applied titles to some. I was intending to add audio, music tracks, to the project but it looks like I will need to dream on.

  • Video Podcasts streaming window size problem since upgrade to 9.0.3

Since the upgrade to 9.0.3 on Windows Vista SP2 when I go to the iTunes store and play a video podcast (Tekzilla, ABC news, etc.), a small window opens up without any controls to stop/start, show time played, expand window, etc. It seems the play must be initiated from a small button to the right of the specific podcast, not the play button on the upper left as before.
I have not found a way to expand the small window to full screen as worked before.
I have played with the options on the iTunes and tried Cntl + F, 1, 2, etc. Set the view option to full screen, etc. In short, every option that I can think of.
I have tried large quicktime and HD podcasts with the same result.
If I download the podcast, as opposed to steaming the podcast; and then highlight and hit the upper left play button, the podcast plays full screen and everything works as before (previously streaming and download playing worked the same).
I have a 6 MB DSL connection which works fine for Hulu, etc. and previously worked fine for full screen video podcast playback in iTunes. I am using a core 2 T5500 CPU with Vista SP2. This machine is a couple years old but is still relatively quick for non-gaming use.
Has iTunes changed? Is there a setting that I need to reset?

Likewise. I started having the problem before 9.03. The upgrade helped for a couple of days, then it started happening again. And then I upgraded to 9.1, and not only do I have to log in and agree to the settings page EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOG IN but the "remember password" box is now completely missing.
Any time I have iPhone apps to update, I have to click on "download all", which then pops up the login box. I enter my password, click on OK to agree that my settings are OK, then I have to click on "download all a second time.
    This is getting very annoying.

  • Video podcasts have jerky playback on my iPod nano 4G

I've been enjoying Good Game video podcasts on my 4G iPod nano for several months:
    http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/
About a month ago, the videos started stuttering badly every few seconds.
I asked ABC TV is they changed something about how they encode the videos, and they say they haven't.
Is it possible that one of the iTunes updates has changed video playback so my iPod nano can no longer cope with decoding the video stream?
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this problem?
    Cheers,
    m.

Have you reconnected your iPod since listening to the podcasts in question? If not, then you need to do that so that the iPod can update. The podcasts won't delete from the iPod itself after you listen to them until it is updated. (Someone correct me if I am wrong)

  • Incomplete playback of video podcast

I have a rather vexing problem with my video podcast ...
I have a video that will not completely playback. It is 2:51 long and it will only play for about 1:22 and then it stops completely.
However this only happens when previewing my video prior to subscribing to it. Once you've subscribed to it, it plays perfectly off the local harddrive and it plays back perfectly off my website.
Anyone got any ideas why this is happening?
Here's the link to my website where you can watch or download the video:

It didn't always work in the past, but now does.
I'm pretty sure it only works if your media file is configured to allow streaming. An easy way to test this is to load a podcast episode in your web browser. If you see that it downloads everything completely before playing, streaming is not enabled and there won't be a preview available on the Store. Also, I think this only applies to videos.

  • Problem: iPod nano 4th gen & video podcast

    Hi ladies and gents!
Just bought a brand new ipod 4th gen. mp3 playback works perfectly, but i experience the following problem when trying to watch a video podcast (the file is ok, it works under itunes on my macbook):
my ipod (nano) plays the first seconds of the podcast, but after some seconds the video gets stuck and the ipod doesn't react anymore. i tried several times to play different video podcast. they all get stuck after a few seconds (randomly something between 5 and 30 seconds)
Has anybody had the same problem
    and has found a solution?
Otherwise i'll go back to the shop to change the ipod for another one :S

  • Itunes/Ipod Touch Video Playback Problem

    Hi all!
I am asking all you Ipod guru's for some help and insights, as I am getting slightly frustrated...
    Background:
For a project at work I am trying to set up a video podcast feed with video's we have created for our customer.
The idea is that everyone at upcoming management conference will receive a Ipod Touch, with some easy explanation on how to -through a feed- download all our video's for them.
For that purpose I have set up a testfeed (checked and doublechecked) to get the videos into Itunes.
The feed works, the channels and videos show up under Podcasts and the videos are playable in Itunes (latest update) with no problems.
    Now the problems start:
When I connect an Ipod Touch, check manual syncing (I don't want to touch what is already on there), and drag the videos to the Ipod, the videos only show up under the 'recently added' category. The channel does not even show, and even though they are videos.
I can play the videos from there in Itunes, and they work fine.
When I eject the Ipod, and then want to watch the videos, I have to really search for them: they are under Music (!!), under 'recently added', and only play the sound, not the video (although the first frame of the video is shown).
To try and circumvent the problem I directly imported the video into Itunes, instead of through the feed (although that totally negates the whole idea to begin with), the videos nicely show up under the Video category in Itunes.
When dragged from there to the Ipod, all works. As I then want to see those newly added videos on the Ipod, they NOW promptly show up in the video category, and play perfectly, with image and sound, and fullscreen.
So, the problem is not with the video itself. What am I doing wrong?
(nothing has changed in the videos at all from the beginning of the process, the videos were already Ipod-ready)
Any thoughts, where do the problems originate? Can I do something in the feed already, or...?
Any ideas will be most welcome!
Thank you very much in advance.
    Peter
P.S. it's also impossible to delete the uploaded video's that ended in the 'recently added' category

Since I've read similar threads on this, I have to think it's a bug.
What if you create a playlist in iTunes with the Podcast's name on it?
I can't really think of any other way around this until it gets fixed.
Oh, and send Apple feedback on this issue - it will help bring it to their attention.

  • Video Playback Problems (iPod Classic 120GB)

Hi! I recently purchased my new iPod Classic 120GB but I'm encountering problems regarding video playback.
I downloaded a *music video* from the internet, and the file format is *mpeg video*. I then purchased an iPod Video Converter and thus changed the file to the appropriate one in order to play it in my iPod.
I played the music video first in my iTunes to check whether the video has any problems, but there was none, and it wasn't corrupted. As for my other videos, I have used the same iPod video converter and they were all fine. I then transferred the music video in my iPod.
Problem is, the quality was good and everything, but there are some *slight glitches in the music video*. There wasn't anything wrong with the audio, but with *some of the scenes* in the video itself. I then replayed it, then the *glitch transferred to another scene in the video*.
I then removed the said music video from my iPod, re-converted it, replayed it in my iTunes, then transferred it to my iPod, but the same video still has the same glitch.
So far, I have transferred 10+ music videos in my iPod and they all worked just fine, but I have 6 other music videos that are encountering the same problem with playback.
Does the problem lie with my iPod converter, or in my iTunes, or in my iPod itself? I would like to know.
I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks!
    For additional information:
    iTunes - latest version 8.1
iPod - recently bought, Classic 120 GB
video converter - Allok Video to iPod converter
video itself - mpeg format, 204 MB

unfortunately its hard to tell where the problem lies... it depeneds on what type of glitch you are talking about. i really hope you didnt actually pay for a video converter... try "ipod video 9" which is absolutely free... top quality and VERY VERY easy to use!!! this program has never caused issues for me. if the issue is with your ipod it may be a delay in information transfer from your ipods hardrive. try defragmenting your ipod like you would your computer in the "my computer" window on windows, this does actually help your ipod read the information on its hardrive faster and should slightly--->drastically improve your ipods performance depending on factors such as how fragmented (jumbled) your files are, how many files you have on the ipod, the size of each file etc.
these are the only things i can think of!!! try both... see how you get on.
