Video Podcast problem/question

Hey gang.
Just got my new 5'th gen iPod - very cool
Although I'm having some problems with the video Podcasts - after downloading i.e. the "Photoshop TV Episode 3" to my computer, and run an "Update iPod", I can't find the movie in either 'Video->Movies', 'Video->Video Podcasts' or 'Video->Music Videos'.
I finally found it under 'Video Playlists'->'Recently Added'.
It has 'Podcast' set at Genre in iTunes, and 'Options->Video Kind' is dimmed out (.m4v file)
Question is - how on earth do I get to figure under 'Video->Video Podcasts' or at least 'Video->Movies'?!?!?
Thanks

Thanks for the response!
I am assuming that if one podcast plays (in a series), they should all play (in that series). In some cases there are three or four installments of something that I would like to view, and sometimes two show up, but not all of them. When I go into 'manual' mode, sometimes it gets weird and says that 'the drive is locked'...
Also, I have put files of my own into iTunes, and it has told me that those files are indeed not compatible and recompressed them. So I would hope if the files were not compatible it would tell me, and not just copy them over to the device and not play them.
Thanks for the response!

  • Ipod classic 80gb video podcasts problem

i have a 80gb ipod classic and when i try to watch video podcasts on it, it will play for about 4 minutes and then either quit playing it or will restart the iPod all together. i have restored my ipod in itunes 7 & 8, and both did nothing to help this problem. does anyone have anything to say do tell me to do to help with this problem?

No, the iTunes Store doesn't make any podcasts (except maybe New Music Tuesday... or is that one gone again...?). But it could be an issue with the people who make the podcast.

  • Playing video podcast problem

    Hello-
I am trying to play video podcasts on my itunes. So far no success. The video starts but is nothing but scrambled colors (mostly purple). audio is fine. Anyone can help?

I just started having this problem on Friday afternoon, with no changes to my system information. Most of the video podcasts just show their album cover (if available) while playing the audio without video.
I also have a similar problem that could be unrelated, but might give some insight into the cause of this problem.
Before this I've noticed that as podcasts finalized download in the queue the video and audio in the pocast I was listening to or watching would stop, for as much as 10 seconds, while iTunes processed the podcast and brought it into the Podcast window. Once it was there and nothing was being downloaded everything was fine.

  • Video podcast problem

I downloaded a 10 minute vodeo podcast and when i try to play it on my ipod the screen goes black

Are you playing the video podcast from video section?
Videos only play the video portion from video menu. You can play the file from other areas but will only get the audio.

  • Video podcasting problem - video unable to download through iTunes

We are currently having an issue with downloading video through iTunes.
We have 12 main videos and have been up and running for almost a year now. We changed our video server since we were getting more traffic. But we left the feed.xml on the same server since that does not influence the bandwidth usage.
When we changed the video server, we only revised the enclisure url in the feed.xml. All the moved videos were checked after the move and they do play.
The problem right now is that when we go to the iTunes store and try to download it through iTunes, it gives us this error
There was an error adding the episode to iTunes
The file might be corrupted, or a file type that iTunes cannot play.
If I can view and download through a browser, why would this error appear? I have even added the mimetype as suggested here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1834388&#1834388
The video was originally converted from a 720x480 dv/ntsc mov into a mpeg4 by using the quicktime player pro export, movie to ipod option.
    Any insights are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Bongo
PS: you can find the podcast from iTunes store if you do a search for "animetv"

    Hi,
The problem you're seeing isn't caused by the server where your videos are hosted, but is a problem with the feed itself. See http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgoanimetv.com%2Ffeed.xml - the big problem diagnosed is that there's an XML parsing error which is breaking the podcast in iTunes. At line 350 you've got some javascript code (which won't work in XML) - take out those lines and your feed will validate and start working in iTunes again.

  • Video Podcast Playback Problem

I have an issue where a single video podcast cannot be found by the iPod app on my iPhone.
+ The video Podcast is downloaded to my PowerBook's iTunes Podcast library and will play from there.
+ The video podcast in question is checked.
+ The iTunes and iPhones settings are correct, other video podcasts download and play.
+ When I sync the iPhone I can see the podcast is being downloaded to my iPhone in iTunes.
+ I've tried resubscribing and have looked at the file details on my PowerBook and it doesn't differ from any other video podcast.
The problem is that when I open the iPod app on the iPhone and click Podcasts the podcast is not listed. It is only true for this one podcast. Others, like The Onion video podcast are listed and play.
Searching the iPhone from the top level the iPhone finds the video podcast by name so it is for sure on the phone. Clicking on it starts playback like any other video podcast, but there is only a blank screen.
One workaround I found was to create a playlist on my PowerBook that contains podcasts. If I do this then the podcast can be played on the iPhone from this playlist and from the top level search. This is a workaround though and I would like to understand why the iPod app can't seem to find this one podcast.
    Thank you for your help.

This problem was fixed with the iPhone 3.1 software release. For those who are curious the video podcasts that were not showing up were from SnapStream's Beyond TV.

  • I Ipod class wont play TED and other video podcasts.  The genious bar could not figure out the problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.

My Ipod classic wont play TED, The Grid, Techzilla and other video podcasts (but not all video podcasts).  The genious bar could not figure out the problem. Instead, the Apple store gave me credit towards a new classic, which produced the same problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.  Lastly, I tried restoring the ipod to no avail.  I've heard this is a video codec problem.

See this extensive older thread on the issue.

  • Problems with abc video podcast

I'm not sure what's causing this but none of the Abc news video podcast will play in iTunes on my Mac (10.4.4).
If I load the files in Mplayer they work, with a bit of grey pixels here and there.
The podcasts works just fine in iTunes on a windows machine
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=115624496

    Found the problem.
Had a quicktime plugin that was causing the hiccup.
Be careful if you're using the "3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX".
I just removed it, and now everything is fine.

  • Video Podcasts streaming window size problem since upgrade to 9.0.3

Since the upgrade to 9.0.3 on Windows Vista SP2 when I go to the iTunes store and play a video podcast (Tekzilla, ABC news, etc.), a small window opens up without any controls to stop/start, show time played, expand window, etc. It seems the play must be initiated from a small button to the right of the specific podcast, not the play button on the upper left as before.
I have not found a way to expand the small window to full screen as worked before.
I have played with the options on the iTunes and tried Cntl + F, 1, 2, etc. Set the view option to full screen, etc. In short, every option that I can think of.
I have tried large quicktime and HD podcasts with the same result.
If I download the podcast, as opposed to steaming the podcast; and then highlight and hit the upper left play button, the podcast plays full screen and everything works as before (previously streaming and download playing worked the same).
I have a 6 MB DSL connection which works fine for Hulu, etc. and previously worked fine for full screen video podcast playback in iTunes. I am using a core 2 T5500 CPU with Vista SP2. This machine is a couple years old but is still relatively quick for non-gaming use.
Has iTunes changed? Is there a setting that I need to reset?

Likewise. I started having the problem before 9.03. The upgrade helped for a couple of days, then it started happening again. And then I upgraded to 9.1, and not only do I have to log in and agree to the settings page EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOG IN but the "remember password" box is now completely missing.
Any time I have iPhone apps to update, I have to click on "download all", which then pops up the login box. I enter my password, click on OK to agree that my settings are OK, then I have to click on "download all a second time.
    This is getting very annoying.

  • Video podcast question

I subscribe to several CS3 video podcasts. I want to watch these on my iPhone. I have my iPhone settings (under "podcasts" tab) syncing these video podcasts onto my iPhone. Problem is that I get only audio.
How to get the video to show up as well?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Yeah, but I find that to be a real design flaw and an issue.
If it's a "Video Podcast", then some smart engineer at Apple should have the sense to make it that wherever you launch that podcast from, it plays whatever format the podcast is in. or give us a video podcast category.
I, for one, have a few hundred short form videos in my video list, and to have to finger-scroll through all those videos just to get to the podcasts AT THE END is a real PITA.
Come on, Apple, this one's a serious oversight. It has been a hassle "ever since" and doesn't fit the moniker "easy to use" at all.

  • Problem in video podcast

Assuming you did not re-convert or redesignate the video kind manually, it it most likely the problem is in the originator's tagging of the file.

  • Video Podcast pause problem

Actuating pause during playback of video podcasts causes the video window to close. This happen using either the new on-screen pause control or the Tray controller. This requires having to restore the iTunes window and restart the video.
This behavior started with version 7 and the 7.0.1 update has not fixed it.

Newer updates have solved t he problem.

  • Problem with adding voice track to video podcast

I am working on a video podcast, adn to my horror, if I add extra voice tracks to the imported movie, the frame freezes on whatever was showing when my V/O began. Can this be corrected? another problem, is that the m4v file will not open in Quicktime pro but will open in VLC...
    thank you

It appears that the Amplitude of the two Audio Clips differ. When you play the Timeline with the Audio Mixer open, do those two Audio Clips show the same Levels, on the VU Meters?
To expand the upper Audio Clip, you can go to the Audio Track Header, and hover the Cursor along that line between the Audio & Video. When the Cursor changes to an equal sign with up/down arrows, click+drag up, to zoom vertically, until the Waveform of that Clip expands, to see it more clearly. Finding that exact spot, where the Cursor changes can take some hovering, but when you see the Cursor change, you know that you are there.
    Good luck,

  • TED HD Video Podcast video problem

I just upgraded my Apple TV to Take 2[.0.2], and when I go to watch the TED HD Video podcast, all of the videos play a couple frames and then it loops those same frames over and over again. The audio is fine, and if I fast forward a 1x the video comes through just fine, but as soon as I hit play, it will loop start looping the video again at the point where I hit play. The regular TED Video podcast works fine, and other HD podcasts I've tried seem to work fine. The TED HD podcast also plays fine on my iMac. Has anyone experienced this before?

I wrote to TED about it, and here's what they said:

  • 2 questions about (video) podcasts

Ok, so first question. I'm subscribed to a video podcast. And I know there should be new ones, but they don't show up in my iTunes. So is it possible that I don't get them yet because I have a dutch iTunes and they arent available yet for us? Or should everybody in the whole world be able to get the same podcasts?
2nd question: The videopodcasts don't show up on my iPod. It is taking place one it though, but I can't find them. They dont show up in "Podcasts" or "Video's" or "Videopodcasts". A while back they were in my video playlist "recently added", but now they dissapeared from there aswell. So does anybody know how to fix this?
    MacBook
Edit: 2nd question has been answered. I had to mark them as "unread". And now they show up on my iPod. The first question is still unanswered, though.

answer to the first Question- The podcast isnt available for Dutch iTunes. beveryone can get the same podcasts from different iTunes stores, but some podcasts are oexclusive to some stores
    hope it makes some sense
    hope I answered ur question
