Video Podcast Transfer Error

ipod is giving a message that video podcasts cannot be transferred because they are not in the proper format. If we totally erase and then re-subscribe, the podcasts before 1/7 seem to transfer properly. Ones after that date give wrong format error. Get info on both gives the same type name of MPEG-4.
Any Ideas?
Steve

I assume this is one programme title. It sounds as though the Podcast's producers have changed the format of their Podcasts. Yes, they may still be MPEG-4 but if the bit rate has been increased beyond the capability of your iPod, that's why they don't transfer.
Check this page, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP26 which gives the video support information for the 5th gen (late 2006) iPod. It's a bit techy, (I have trouble following it all) but look at this, it refers to H.264 not MPEG-4, but hopefully you get the idea;
5th gen iPod early/late spec is *H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels,*
while the iPod Classic spec is *H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels.*
So the Podcast's producers could have created a version that plays on the iPod Classic but not on the 5th gen. If so, it's just one of those things that progress throws up.
One last thing (for the benefit of those who don't know), all Podcasts are produced independently of iTunes/Apple and the idea is that Podcasts are universal. So each Podcast programme may have been produced with non-iPod owners in mind. Yes, there really are such beings on the planet.

Hey there all!
For some reason, whenever I try to submit my video podcast to the iTunes store, I keep getting this message.
"Error parsing feed: Invalis XML: Error on line 322: Element type "ahrefs.length" must be followed by either attribute specifications, ">" or "/>"
The feed is located:

and according to all of the tests that I can run in feedburner, everything is working great. I can manually subscribe to the feed in iTunes, and I can get it through other catchers, any ideas what's wrong here? Please help!

• Why don't some video podcasts transfer to iPod classic 6thG?

This phenomenon occurs for example in the Podcast called "Beautiful Places in HD" and some NASA Podcasts. A message says that the podcast can't be played on your iPod. (6G already too old?)
I found an unsatisfactory solution to that problem by using the convert funtion. The only problem with that is that a 5 min podcast takes 20 minutes to convert with iTunes. Then everything works fine except that the file is not a podcast anymore. If I use a non Apple tool which does the job faster my iPod becomes unstable and crashes once I upload the converted file.
Can anybody please offer some advice?

To add to what Meg has already said:

Just curious: So there are no iPods for these kind of Podcasts or are they meant to be just for iTunes?
Podcasts are not produced by Apple or the iTunes Store, the store simply lists Podcasts created by anyone who wishes to make Podcasts, you can make one if you wish. They are not necessarily produced with the iPod in mind, or even any MP3 player, even though they may be listed in the iTunes Store.
As you have found, conversion is not the answer. It's simply "the way things are" and I have the same issue myself with "Beautful Places in HD". Watch them on your PC and enjoy there.

• Video podcasts won't transfer to iPod - it's not a format issue

I've been watching the video podcast "Wallstrip" www.wallstrip.com on my iPod. Just the other day I noticed a problem with my iPod software (v 1.2.1) and performed a restore. THAT problem was fixed (clicking play all in a list such as genre just scrolled songs but didn't play them) but now there's a NEW problem: The Wallstrip video podcast, which USED to transfer and play just fine, is now identified by iTunes as one that won't play because it's not the right format. Clearly there's a problem with the iPod. I've looked at forums and I am aware that one can manually convert it to "movies" but that's clearly not the problem. If it worked yesterday and doesn't today something's screwy. Ditto for the "Planet TV" podcast. Anyone know what to do?

i have the same problem. several of my video podcasts have stopped transferring with the same format error which i know is incorrect.

• Hi. Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update (a week or so ago), I can't access any video podcasts or movies I have stored in itunes. iTunes keeps crashing and telling me I have a quicktime error. Do I uninstall quicktime? or?

Hi . Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista). iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error. Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose? Help, please!

• ERROR = 500 message every time I try to download NBC video podcasts

I'm having a problem downloading any NBC video podcast. When I hit "get new episode" I get an error 500. All my other podcasts are downloading fine expect for the NBC ones. I also tried it on my girlfriends PC and am having the same problem so I'm wondering if this has something to do with itunes or something else. Any help would be great.
Thomas

I've had the same prob with NBC's Countdown and Meet the Press since about the 23rd of Dec. I recently tried to download directly from their site and get the following error
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
This happens on my Mac as well as on a PC on a different network. I've been in Asia for the last two weeks and was thinking that it's related to their crappy 'international' policy, but I guess I'm wrong.
Would be interested to know if others around the world can access their content via iTunes or directly from their site: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8132577/

• Transfer Music + Videos + Podcasts + Photos from iPOd to iTunes

This is the same case of old PC crashing. I noticed there are a lot of ways of transferring music files to a new iTunes. Is there a way to do the same with video, podcasts and photo files as well?
iPOD video Windows XP

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then have a look at the third party utilities listed above they are generally quite straightforward and simple to use. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

• How to transfer my videos podcasts from macbookpro to my new iMac ?

I've just bought a new iMac and would like to transfer my videos podcast from my MacBookPro without having to download all of them again. I was already successfull in transfering the subscriptions but they are asking to download again all the videos, including the free and the bought ones. That is a waste of time ! Isn't there a Apple smart way to avoid it ?
Thanks in advance folks !

You can't do it directly on your iPad. You will need to copy them to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
Then add them to your computer's iTunes via File > Add To Library so that they go into the Movies part of your iTunes library, and then sync them to your iPad's Videos app.

• Touch syncs video podcast by wifi, but NOT by Mac itunes transfer

Trying to sync a video podcast from iTunes. (Brigitte Dale)
Oddly enough it downloads if selected through iTunes on the iTouch (2.2).
But gives the error about not transferring with Mac iTunes (v 8.0.2).
The videos are 28.49 fps, mpeg-4 (perian) 424 x 318 millions. about 2400 kbits/sec
Files are MOV.
Convert to IPOD format not available from right-click.
Selecting it in the advanced menu has no effect.

You are correct about things not adding up.
My ipod touch weirdly doesn't show up on the desktop or on itunes BUT it will always launch iphoto and ask if I want to download the two photos (which I downloaded from iphoto INTO the ipod, go figure).
Photos copy only one way - iTunes to iPod. Not the other way around. Could it be that your iPod is being treated as camera? You can disable your computer from recognizing the touch as a camera. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1501
I have been synching my podcasts by using our house's wireless.
Wireless syncing is not supported. You can connect to iTunes and download, but you can't sync with your computer wirelessly.
As far as iTunes not recognizing your touch, a piece of software - Apple Mobile Device Services - needs to be operating correctly. See this article for help on troubleshooting problems: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

• Video Podcasts No Longer Transfer to iPod - Work OK in iTunes

I am subscribed to a couple of different video podcasts - recently when I sync, I get the message that they are not copied to the iPod because the iPod can't play them. Same iPod, same podcasts as before.. The podcasts do play correctly in iTunes, they just won't sync....
Any ideas?
I have done a restore on the iPod, and that made no difference.

The videos play in iTunes without trouble... Shouldn't that indicate that they should play on the iPod?
Also, I know that the podcast format has not changed - I am actually the one that produces the podcast. I subscribe to be sure they are posting correctly.
A sample is:
http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/news.xml
http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/weather.xml
http://www.abc3340.com/static/podcasts/sports.xml
Yes, it's sad that I produce/post the podcast and don't know any more about it than this, but at this point, I'm trying to determine if something is wrong with the way they are being done (which has not changed at all) or something goofy is going on with iTunes and/or my iPod.

• ITunes lists Podcast as Video Podcast due to CMS Error

Before I begin, here are my podcast feed and my itunes link:
Mine: http://www.gamingtruth.com/feed/podcast/
iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=315180101
So, I noticed after my show was submitted to iTunes that Wordpress had set previous posts uploads' to the same type that PowerPress ( http://www.blubrry.com/powerpress/ ) uses. I corrected my feed using a fix I found in their forums ( http://forum.blubrry.com/index.php?topic=595.0 ).
Now, I have a feed that only contains my podcasts, but the category breadcrumbs read: Podcasts > Video Podcasts > Video Games > GAMINGtruth. Is there any way to correct this?
I've already pinged iTunes, so is there something else I should be doing to ensure it gets placed in the correct category?
Using WP v. 2.7.1 & BluBrry PowerPress v. 0.7.3
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm getting 'Podcasts>Audio Podcasts>Video Games>GAMINGtruth' which seems reasonable. Your category tags read
<itunes:category text="Games & Hobbies">
<itunes:category text="Video Games" />
</itunes:category>
So it looks as if it's sorted itself out.

• Video podcasts won't sync to iPhone

Got a confusing problem here, with a MacBook Pro (up to date on all software) and a new iPhone 3GS.
I can download and play video podcasts within iTunes on my Mac. However, they will not sync from iTunes to my iPhone, even after I use the "Create iPhone version" command and it spends ten minutes converting them. iTunes gives the error that the video cannot be played on my iPhone, so it's not going to transfer it.
Here's the confusing part: if I use iTunes on the iPhone itself (not on the Mac), I can download and play those very same video podcasts successfully. Huh? How come they work fine on my iPhone when downloaded directly to it, but not when downloaded via my Mac?
Any suggestions? FYI, here is one of the videos in question:
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?i=56243345&id=2965 02584

I've been having the same problem: video podcasts contained in playlists are skipped over the the sync process. (These same video podcasts will sync fine if I choose something like "sync only the 5 most recent episodes of the selected podcasts." The trouble is, I've just started watching a long video podcast and would like to watch it from the beginning rather than from the end.
Any advice... short of deleting all but the desired episodes and then slowly re-downloading them as needed?

• Video Podcasts won't sync to iTouch with iTunes 9.0.1.8

There's obviously a bug in iTunes where some video podcasts (ESPN Mike & Mike, ESPN PTI Big Finish for example) do not sync. I get an error saying they are not copied to the iTouch because they cannot be played on this iPod - which is most likely not true. What's going on? Anyone know of a fix or having similar issues?

That's not a bug in iTunes. The message tells you what the problem is - those videos cannot be played on the iPod. That's because they are not in the correct format. My iTunes message actually said the "format was not supported".
There are two options: try converting the video for iPod use. Highlight the video, one at a time, and click on *Advanced/Create iPod or iPhone version.* Each conversion takes quite a while.
The other option (possibly the better one) is to email the Podcast producers to let them know that their video Podcats cannot be played on an iPod. They may not know! I had a look on the PTI website and they seem keen to provide Podacst Feeds for iTunes. This is not quite the same as providing for an iPod.
Podcast producers have been known to issue videos that play in iTunes (via Quicktime), but not on iPods. So if you do email them, let them know where you got the Feed (that is, how you subscribed/downloaded - via iTunes or via their website and iTunes) and detail exactly what doesn't happen.
I've just tried downloading episodes from each of the programmes you mention and they do both fail to transfer to my iPod. But as I said, it's not a bug and it is true. As portable media players (of which iPods are just one type) have evolved, so have the video standards and now some formats simply cannot be played on some devices.
Good luck.
Phil

• IPod classic - won't play video podcasts

Hi Community!
I have a shiny new iPod classic 160GB, and I love it ... except for the fact that I can't play video podcasts with it.
They play fine on iTunes, and my audio podcasts work great, but no video podcasts.
When I click on one, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then goes back to the menu.
Please help me!
Thanks!

Hi, I have the same problem, but videos i converted to mp4 under the iPod specs..
I transferred some and all played OK... decided to transfer more vids and now those freshly videos don't play
They transfer to my iPod classic, i.e no error message.
Then i browse my ipod try to watch a movie and the same thing as you, black screen and then the menu slides back into place as i have not watched it
I tried reset center +MENU, tried restoring ipod, now i tried "Create an iPod or iPhone version" and i got this warning
"One or more videos were not converted because they're on the right format" so the format or encoding is not the problem with my videos
I will reinstall itunes if that doesn't work i will defrga my hard drive if no then a itunes repiar... i hope something works
