Video Podcasts as TV Shows?

I've got a MythTV box that I have set up to be able to podcast recordings. I do this for two reasons: to be able to watch shows, and to archive certain shows. Since iTunes has this (I'll call it a bug) where it syncs EVERY podcast to your iPod whether you've got it checked or not (though it won't show up in your playlist unless you've got it checked) that means that all the shows I archive end up on my iPod, taking up ~20G of space I don't want it to.
Does anyone know (short of exporting and re-importing a show) a way of configuring a video podcast such that it automatically shows up in iTunes as a TV show instead of a Podcast? iTunes seems to handle TV Shows correctly.
TIA

There is a way, but:
• its only for mpeg-4 files (.mp4, .m4v)
• its ultra-geeky
Get AtomicParsley from here:
http://atomicparsley.sourceforge.net/
and what you are trying to accomplish is to un-set the podcast flag and set the video kind to "TV Show". It will write out to a new file - rename that & use. In a nutshell you do this in a Terminal window:
/path/to/AtomicParsley /path/to/your/MPEG4file --podcastFlag false --stik "TV Show"

  • Video podcasts and TV shows don't play after upgrading to iTunes 7.

Any suggestions, I've lost the ability to view podcasts and TV shows in iTunes after upgrading.

Try this, it worked for me.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Go to: Start menu > Control Panels > QuickTime.
    3. Click on the Advanced tab.
    4. Un-check the checkbox next to "Enable Direct3D video acceleration".
    5. Open iTunes.
    6. Play the video.

  • My videos and video podcasts do not show on my ipod but do on itunes

    Hello,
My videos show fine on my itunes (movies and podcasts) but then i go to try them on my ipod and the screen remains blank! please help!

That happened to me too. It was in the wrong format for my IPod to play and I redownloaded everything and it worked again. Annoying, but it worked.

  • Video podcasts not showing in podcast menu

my video podcasts are not showing up on ipod touch when I sync. They are on the ipod, cause when I search, they show up under podcast header (so they are not mis-labelled as music or anything), but they do not show up in the podcast menu. This applies to all my video podcasts. I think its a bug.

Wow, that does work. There they all are but I think this is annoying, that I have to go to a seperate app to see my video podcasts, as apposed to aduio podcasts, in the podcast menu, but at least I can see them. Thanks!

  • Changing video type to tv show stops working

    Hi guys.
When i copy a show to my iPad it plays fine when categorised as Home Video.  However, when i set the show to TV Show and give it a Show Name, it stops working and will not play on my iPad or in iTunes.  I have to delete the show and copy it over again in Home Video for it to play.
Does anyone who why this is?  This used to work fine with iOS 7.
    Thanks,
    Gary

It is bad that you do not have TV Shows as a selection for the Video Kind for imported videos (not bought from iTunes). Something similar is probably causing an audio book that I got from somewhere besides iTunes to show up under Music in the search bar and not under Audiobooks.
The only work around I have been using when using the browser mode in videos is to make sure that I select show Genre when browsing and make my own video Genres (into more like Video Kinds) and leave videos "clicked" on All and then just select TV Show or Movie or whatever from the Genre if I want to narrow down my selection.
It helps but as I add more things to iTunes I would rather use Genre to further narrow down the selection I made in the search bar like click on "TV Shows" in search bar then comedy in genre or click on "All" in search bar and then comedy under genre to show all comedies regardless of being a movie, music video, podcast, or TV show. If all of my library had been purchased through iTunes it would work, but until Apple gives non-iTunes store videos all the selections under Video Kind (get info then under options) that are used in the search bar it is limiting.

  • Changing "Video Kind" to TV Show?

So after manually changing each of my 450+ music video files to "Music Video" under "Video Kind:" (why on earth can't this come up under Edit Multiple Item Info?), my next project is to add my TV shows to iTunes.
However, I cannot find a way to change the video type to "TV Show". The options are only "Movie" and "Music Video", neither of which will make a video file appear when TV Shows is selected in the Video playlist.
Is there a way to do this?

I have a 5th gen ipod and recently all of my video podcasts stopped showing up in my ipod.  They still show up and play in itunes, just not in my video podcast list on my ipod.  All of the podcasts are Quicktime Large.  For some reason my ipod has stopped supporting Quicktime Large.  Now I've had to redownload every video podcast as Quicktime Small.
Anyone have any ideas whether this is from the the software version 1.3 and if they'll fix it in the next update?

I'm having same problem, but QT Small videos are also not getting synced.

  • Video Podcasts show up as Music

    Here is my problem:
I downloaded a couple video podcasts from iTMS and copied them to my ipod. They play fine in iTunes, but on my ipod they dont show up anywhere in the video section, only in the music section. When I 'get info' within iTunes they both show as 'Movie' in the Movie Kind field. I am using iTunes version 6.0.2.23 (Windows), Cd Driver 2.0.43, Cd Driver DLL 2.0.3.2, Ipod Video 30G, Version 1.0.
    Now for some additional info...
When I am transfering the video to the ipod, I am doing this manually because I use both my home and work machines with my ipod.
Here are some things I have tried:
I first attempted to download the video podcasts using iTMS on my work machine with the result being that the videos showing up under my music and not showing up under video anywhere.
I downloaded a video (not using iTMS) on my work machine and then imported it into the library and then manually copied it to my ipod and it worked just fine.
I attempted to 'Convert The Selection For Ipod' within iTunes (again work machine) for the iTMS downloaded video podcasts and it tells me that the files were not converted because they are already in the correct format. I am wondering if the problem is somehow related to the fact that these files have been downloaded through the podcast subscription? I cant see any reason why, but just throwing some things out there.
I attempted to download the video podcasts using iTMS on my home machine with the same results. As a last effort at this time, I tried the transfer again, and left it to transfer overnight.
Using a different computer (not work or home) I rebuilt Windows XP Pro from scratch. The only thing installed was service pack 2, then installed the same version of iTunes (6.0.2.23) and had a slightly different experience. One of the podcasts in questions did the exact same thing, that is showing up under music and no video playing. The other podcast however ended up showing up and played fine. Now my problem is I dont know if the new machine transferred it correctly or if it was transferred correctly from my home machine the night before (I overlooked checking it before attempting the transfer on the new machine.) I have since then attempted to transfer the problem file on the new machine and it failed again.
Now, has anyone managed to experience and resolve this issue? I know that I should update the ipod to 1.1 and try again, but since I have read about all of the problems with video on the new version I am a little hesitant to do that. Anyone have any suggestions on what ot try next, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade the ipod?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob
Ipod Video 30G Version 1.0   Windows XP Pro

OK, tried some new things, here is the latest update:
I went ahead and bit the bullet, upgraded to 1.1. Deleted the video files from the music section of the ipod and then attempted to manually transfer the files. Still, the same symptoms occured.
Next step, performed a restore on the ipod (using the latest updater (thus retaining version 1.1), then set the ipod to sync with itunes on the work machine. Videos uploaded fine, show up in the Videos section and even play as videos on the ipod! Now we are getting somewhere.
Once I arrived home, I plugged the ipod into my home machine, told it yes, that I wanted to delete the content and attach the ipod to itunes on my home machine. Once all my music downloaded to the ipod, I subscribed to the video podcasts, they downloaded, then I synced the ipod, and they show up in the video section and play as videos. Everything seems to work fine!
My next step will be to disable auto sync and manually add some video podcasts to the ipod and see if it will function then. I will update the thread once that is complete.

  • Can't get video podcast to show up on my iPod

I've downloaded tv programs, even compressed some of my own video work and put it on my iPod....but for some reason, the 3 video podcasts I downloaded don't show up after my iPod updates. I searched in the music section as well as the video section under "podcasts," but nothing is there. Any suggestions? Any way to drag and drop the file onto iPod?

    Any suggestions?
Would suggest you check the format of the podcast. I downloaded one last week and found Sorenson video and QDesign audio tracks. If it is in what appears to be the correct format and parameter settings, then try converting it yourself and see it it syncs.
If the converted file syncs, then I would conclude that the author's workflow may not have included adequate "field testing." (Likely relying on past successes with a particular application and/or settings.) This happened to me this week when I downloaded an Apple product/technique tutorial. (Strangely enough, the only one in the series I had tourble with delt with podcasting.) If the files still refuses to sync, then I would suggest you recheck your iTunes preference settings
Any way to drag and drop the file onto iPod?
"Drag 'n Drop" is, i believe, a manual management function. However, I doubt it would bypass the iTunes files scan to check on whether or not the file is iPod compatible. (I assume you aren't talking about simple data storage here.) On the other hand, at least one individual has claimed to have "hacked" his way into the loading of video data rate restricted files. Unfortunately, I am not interested in wasting space in order to put "DVD quality" files on an iPod. (If I want DVD quality, I'll watch the DVD.)

  • Songlist doesn't show after download of video podcast

    Yep, that's my problem.
I downloaded the "Ratatouille" video podcast and whenever I open one of my playlists or the library I get a blank window! I can hit play and it will play whatever is in that playlist, but the pane that usually shows the list is blank, and by blank I mean white. When I open up iTS and then go back to one of my playlists, it will still show the iTS content in the playlist pane.
    Please advise. Thank you.

I fixed my problem by reinstalling iTunes...Not the best solution, but the easiest. During the download of that video podcast, iTunes must have somehow became corrupted, don't ask me how that might have worked.
Anyway, it's good now. Until the next video podcast probably...

  • Watched Video Podcasts Not Showing As Watched

    Hi,
Video Podcasts that I've definitely watched from beginning to end on my iPod Touch are not showing up in iTunes as being watched. I know this for sure because I have a smart playlist in iTunes called "Unwatched Podcasts" which basically lists all the video podcasts that have a play count of 0. Why is my iPod Touch not incrementing the play count by one when I watch these podcasts?

Actually, they are. I don't know if it only works if you play the video podcasts with the iPod Touch docked, but if I let the video podcasts run all the way to the end, automatically returning me to the Videos menu, then yeah the play count goes up and when I sync those podcasts are removed from my Unwatched Podcasts playlist. Good stuff.

  • Video podcasts not showing video?

Okay, I'm a little confused here.
I downloaded some podcasts (okay I downloaded hundreds), including some video ones.
Now when I go under iTunes there's the little tv logo by them, and when I click the video does play just like any other video.
But when I go to watch the podcast on my iPod (brand new 30 GB with video), it plays just the audio. It looks like watching a normal audio pocast, with a little still image where album artwork normally shows up.
It's not like my iPod has trouble with videos -- the television shows and music videos I downloaded from iTunes store all work perfectly fine. It's just my podcasts.
The particular video podcasts I downloaded are the Disney Channel DCOM extras, Star Wars on Cinemax, and Formula D.
Please help, I really want to watch these videos but my computer is too sluggish with iTunes to watch them on there!
    Thanks in advance!

Doi! Yeah, that did it. Thanks!!!

  • Video podcasts not showing up on iPod

Since the recent update of my iPod, my video podcasts are not syncing to my iPod.  When I sync with iTunes, I have all the podcasts (both audio and video) selected to sync but only the audio podcasts are available to me via my iPod.  What's going on here?

OK, so there they are in a new place. Would have been courteous for Apple to give some clue that they were moving things around. Especially because the video podcasts still show up in iTunes in the same place as the audio podcasts, same as before. Thanks for tip, lllaass.

  • Video podcast shows up as music podcast

when i downloaded the video podcast off itunes music store,on the itune it shows up as video but in my ipod it wont show up as a video but shows up as musics as in i cant see anything but i can still hear sounds.Does anyone knwo how i can get the podcast to show up as video? and where i can find it?

Is it showing up under Videos-->video podcasts?
If you access it through the music section of the iPod (music-->podcasts), it will not play the video.
If you are accessing it through videos-->video podcasts and it still only plays audio, try this.
    Go to videos-->video settings-->TV Out-->off

  • Categorizing Movies, TV Shows & Video Podcasts

    Dear Mac Friends,
I was wondering if some one could offer some advise or perhaps offer 3rd Party Software to help organize my iTunes Library more efficiently.
My issues is getting iTunes to recognize the different kinds of Video files that I upload to the Main Library. All Video files by default, are categorized and placed in the "Movies" Library regardless of whether they are TV Shows or Video Podcasts. I download lots of TV shows from my TiVo and would like to place them in the "TV Shows" Library. I know there is not way for iTunes to tell the difference but I should at the very least be able to manually categorize them by what they are. I've tried changing the "Genre" and "Category" to say TV Show it still puts it in the Movies Library.
This becomes problematic and very confusing when trying to Sync them to my iPhone or Video iPod. I don't know if I should chose the Playlist of TV Shows that I created from the "Music" Preference-Pane or if I need to manually select each TV Show Episode from the "Movies" Preference-Pane
Any Advice or Suggestion would be very appreciated.

    FOLLOW-UP ISSUE:
I have made a number of Smart Playlists for my TV Shows and Video Podcasts. However when I select my Video Podcast Playlists to be sync'd in the iphone/ipod syncing preferences (under the MUSIC tab), they do not sync. Sadly I have to select Podcast independently under the PODCAST tab. This become very difficult when I have 100+ podcasts. I'd much rather be able to select a playlist.
It is interesting that under the VIDEO tab they do allow for TV Show Playlist syncing. I'm guessing this is a common gripe and that it is simply not a feature that has be implemented yet. However, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion or work-around.
