Video podcasts in playlists

I have a smart playlist on my iPod with one rule:
Video Kind is Movie
When I play videos from this list I hear the audio, but the video is frozen on a frame.
All videos work fine when played from the main Videos menu.
Is anybody able to play video podcasts from smart playlists ?

Nope sorry. This is similar to how on iPod the album, artist, and track menus will list all files on device whether they are audio or video. But video will only show when played from video menu other wise you will only get audio.

  • Bug in playing back video podcasts from playlists?

I subscribe to about 2 dozen podcasts, a few of which are video podcasts. I have a smart playlist that collects all the podcasts together, based an their Album name. I have a second smart playlist that collects all unplayed & unrated members of the first podcast playlist.
I have my Nano set to autosync the second smart playlist. If I navigate to this playlist (via main menu->Music->Playlists)I can see the video podcast titles listed there, see the little TV symbol next to them signifying they're video, but when I try playing them, I see a single frozen video frame, and the audio plays. Rotating the Nano to landscape mode doesn't make a difference. It happens on all my video podcasts.
But when I play the video podcast via main menu->Podcast (enabled via Settings->General->Main Menu), it'll play normally.
Has anyone else run into this bug? Anyone able to play video podcasts via the Music->Playlist?

This is a serious bug. I was puzzled how to play the video podcasts which were put in a playlist using the same method as yours: 1st Smartlist collects all podcasts, and the second one collects the unplayed ones. Then I synch the second smart play list. No matter what I do, I cant see the video. However thanks to your post, I now know I can see it via the much more "normal" route of selecting podcasts from the main menu.

Yup, I can confirm. The whole Video Kind rule doesn't seem to work. I did report it but more voices couldn't hurt.

  • Playlist excluding video podcasts

Complicated podcasts, including video podcasts abort iTunes in my home Windows machine, and abort Windows (Blue Screen of Death) at my work machine. In order to watch them, I have to go to my wife's iMac. Then I go back to my main computer and mark them as not new. (I'm getting a Mac Pro in a month).
I have a playlist with unplayed podcasts, which I play with each computer (although I haven't figured out how to get my iPod to play more than one at a time from this playlist). How do I modify that playlist to exclude video podcasts?

For mobile playing I have a smartplaylist for podcasts with a rule to exclude videos. Don't have access currently but I think it used the 'kind' option from the dropdown in the rules.

  • Playlist of video podcasts

I make a playlist of video podcasts. The entries play as audio only, not video. How do I fix that or can I.
It does it either manually built or using on the go.
It is a real pain to have to play newest podcast first, why they ever choose that for the default i will never understand.

Video playlist yes, you need to enable Playlists All (not just music playlists) in Settings (can't remember exact submenu).
Repeating files won't generally work in order, though you might be able to have a playlist of video to shuffle continuously (not tried).

  • Video Podcasts Only Listed Under Video Playlist Recently Added

I downloaded Flight of the Conchords video podcasts (awesome show), but they only appear under the recently added menu not under the Video Podcast Menu. Any ideas?
The playback is great, but its a bit of a hassle to go to the recently added list.
    Gracias!

So when you go under Videos, Video Podcasts, it's not there?
Since you downloaded it from iTunes, I wouldn't expect it to act this way. (Podcasts from other sources are often tagged improperly and won't land in the correct folder.)
You could check the tags on it and see if anything looks odd. You might try downloading another video podcast to see how it behaves. It could just be something's not quite right with this one.
Other options are to tell iTunes not to sync it, then sync it back onto the iPod. If all else fails, you may need to Restore the iPod and then resync everthing back onto it.

  • How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person?

How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person? How can lots of content be loaded, so that no navigation is required, for hundreds of hours of enjoyment?
I wanted to create a single playlist with hundreds of hours of books and podcasts for my grandmother who is blind. Then I planned to use something like the app CarTunes which basically makes the touch screen simply a gigantic pause/play button for an already created playlist.  This is perfect for a blind person. The problem: Apple no longer allows you to have a playlist with Audible Books and Podcasts. I have tried; but the podcasts and books are stripped from the playlist. It seems like all podcast and book players require navigation. (How aggravating!?)
Any help in creating hundreds of hours long spoken (selected between books and podcasts) audio content playlist for a blind person would be much appreciated!!!!

Well, good news and bad news. I found out how to tell iTunes that all my music videos are, in fact, actual "music videos" and categorize them as such. In the "Get Info" screen for a track, there is a dropdown selector where you can pick the "meta" type, such as "Music Video", "Home Video", "Movie", "TV Show", etc. This allows iTunes and iOS to think they are all music videos and play them in the same list.
Unfortunately, this is not compatable with my third party device, which is now refusing to play my music videos in a playlist and will only play them one at a time (in a single-track infinite loop no less). Very frustrating!

  • Need an option to filter video podcasts out in the regular podcasts menu

The problem is that when you have a lot of podcasts, both video and audio, it is easy to focus in on only the video podcasts but when you are viewing the regular podcasts menu it shows both video and audio only podcasts. I find that I am spending a lot of time trying to remember which ones are audio only when scrolling through my list because I don' t want to listen to only the audio of a video podcast and have it marked as listened to already. Some video and audio version have similar names but different content, such as the NYTimes David Pogue tech reviewer has both an audio and a video podcast and they ARE different content. I'm sure that I am not the only one who has wished there was a way to separate the audio only podcasts from the video ones in the podcast menu.
My proposal...that as many people as possible submit a feature request to Apple to add an option in the iPod settings menu to show only audio podcasts in the podcasts menu. Yes, smart playlists could be set up (and I tried it for a while) but then you loose the blue dot that reminds me of which episode I am on so I wasn't happy with that approach. Both CM and P6 needs to be configured using there respective admin utility to interact. Most important part is generation of Encryption key. It should be same for both. Once that is done, restart CM server and P6 server and you should see the link enabled :)

  • Ipod Classic will no longer play video podcasts after upgrade to iTunes 10.

I have a 120GB Classic. I used to be able to play video podcasts just fine. Since upgrading to iTunes 10.0 in September I can see Podcasts with a little video symbol next to them on the iPod, but when I click on them the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, then flips back to the menu. If I copy the Podcast to a playlist, I get audio but no video, as always. The video podcast plays fine on the PC. I've tried "converting to iPod or iPhone version" with no success. I've Googled this problem and found many others with this issue, none with their question answered. Does anyone know if this is an issue acknowledged by Apple, and if so, do they plan to fix it? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
    Thanks.

am having the same problem with hannah montana episodes, anyone have a solution? apple?

  • Play more than 1 video/podcast/movie at a time

How can I use Front Row to play a whole folder of movies at a time?
I have a whole bunch of short films and video podcasts & wanna play one-after-another in Front Row. I cannot seem to get Front Row to do this for me. I wanna just sit back and watch them all, without selecting the next one every 2 to 5 minutes.
Can you do this is Front Row?
    John from Alaska

This can't be done with Front Row right now. Because the 3rd & 4th generation iPod nanos support "video playlists", there's been hope that some day Front Row will also support a video playlist. But, so far we haven't seen that option yet. You can create a video playlist in iTunes and it will play through directly from iTunes, however. You'll have to add your movies to iTunes to use this option...

  • Video podcasts won't sync to iPhone

Got a confusing problem here, with a MacBook Pro (up to date on all software) and a new iPhone 3GS.
I can download and play video podcasts within iTunes on my Mac. However, they will not sync from iTunes to my iPhone, even after I use the "Create iPhone version" command and it spends ten minutes converting them. iTunes gives the error that the video cannot be played on my iPhone, so it's not going to transfer it.
Here's the confusing part: if I use iTunes on the iPhone itself (not on the Mac), I can download and play those very same video podcasts successfully. Huh? How come they work fine on my iPhone when downloaded directly to it, but not when downloaded via my Mac?
Any suggestions? FYI, here is one of the videos in question:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?i=56243345&id=2965 02584

I've been having the same problem: video podcasts contained in playlists are skipped over the the sync process. (These same video podcasts will sync fine if I choose something like "sync only the 5 most recent episodes of the selected podcasts." The trouble is, I've just started watching a long video podcast and would like to watch it from the beginning rather than from the end.
Any advice... short of deleting all but the desired episodes and then slowly re-downloading them as needed?

  • How to rate videos in a playlist from phone?

If I have a playlist of videos (or video podcasts), and I watch them on the iPhone, is it possible to rate them (with stars, like I can do in iTunes on my Mac) so that the info gets back to iTunes when I sync it?

    Thank You very much "Demo"
    I have send my feedback
    Hope Apple do something

  • Video podcasts suddenly regarded as music in iTunes: how can I fix this?

    Hi everyone,
OK I've looked around for some time now, but the answer does not seem to be out there.
After a recent iTunes upgrade, all my video podcasts were treated by iTunes as music podcasts.
    What I mean by that:
    - TV icon is missing next to the file in iTunes
    - Right click says "mark as played" instead of "mark as watched"
    - Available Media Kinds are "Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audiobook & Voice Memo" instead of "Music Video, TV Programe, Film, Podcast & iTunes U"
    - "Part of gapless album" ticking box is not greyed
    - Those files are absent from the "Video Playlists" on my iPod classic
However, video podcasts downloaded after the upgrade behave normally! See image below: first video podcast is fine, the others are not.
This is puzzling me because the old files all have "MPEG-4 video file" as "Kind" and "Podcast" as "Media Kind", just like the new ones.
Anyone knows what's wrong here? and how to fix it?
Thanks a lot for your help
    Romain

Are you talking about using iTunes music for a slide show?  If so you need to go to iTunes, file, library, reorganize files and then it will work.

  • Songlist doesn't show after download of video podcast

    Yep, that's my problem.
I downloaded the "Ratatouille" video podcast and whenever I open one of my playlists or the library I get a blank window! I can hit play and it will play whatever is in that playlist, but the pane that usually shows the list is blank, and by blank I mean white. When I open up iTS and then go back to one of my playlists, it will still show the iTS content in the playlist pane.
    Please advise. Thank you.

I fixed my problem by reinstalling iTunes...Not the best solution, but the easiest. During the download of that video podcast, iTunes must have somehow became corrupted, don't ask me how that might have worked.
Anyway, it's good now. Until the next video podcast probably...

  • Watched Video Podcasts Not Showing As Watched

    Hi,
Video Podcasts that I've definitely watched from beginning to end on my iPod Touch are not showing up in iTunes as being watched. I know this for sure because I have a smart playlist in iTunes called "Unwatched Podcasts" which basically lists all the video podcasts that have a play count of 0. Why is my iPod Touch not incrementing the play count by one when I watch these podcasts?

Actually, they are. I don't know if it only works if you play the video podcasts with the iPod Touch docked, but if I let the video podcasts run all the way to the end, automatically returning me to the Videos menu, then yeah the play count goes up and when I sync those podcasts are removed from my Unwatched Podcasts playlist. Good stuff.
