Video Podcasts No Longer Transfer to iPod - Work OK in iTunes

I am subscribed to a couple of different video podcasts - recently when I sync, I get the message that they are not copied to the iPod because the iPod can't play them. Same iPod, same podcasts as before.. The podcasts do play correctly in iTunes, they just won't sync....
Any ideas?
I have done a restore on the iPod, and that made no difference.

The videos play in iTunes without trouble... Shouldn't that indicate that they should play on the iPod?
Also, I know that the podcast format has not changed - I am actually the one that produces the podcast. I subscribe to be sure they are posting correctly.

Yes, it's sad that I produce/post the podcast and don't know any more about it than this, but at this point, I'm trying to determine if something is wrong with the way they are being done (which has not changed at all) or something goofy is going on with iTunes and/or my iPod.

  • Video podcasts no longer sync with iPod Touch

I am using latest version of iTunes 10.1.1 (4) and latest os 10.6.5 on MacBook Pro with iPod Touch (gen 3). I subscribe to a video podcast and in beginning it worked, but for last 2 months though they download into iTunes and I can watch them, they are either not syncing to my iPod or I cannot find them. Before they were in Podcast list along with audio podcasts.

Yeah I noticed some videos we'rent syncing to my iPod 5th Gen now that I switched to Mac, and reformatted my iPod, and was reminded that some items wouldn't transfer. These were certain podcasts, as well as a HD TV Show Episode. (I thought HD TV show purchases came with a SD version for iPod, but maybe it got lost in the transfer or I deleted it sometime)....but WHATEVER:
If you want, you can convert any video file to a format that fits iPod/iPhone, or even iPad/Apple TV, here's how:
Select the video item(s) you wish to make a compressed version for, and click ADVANCED on the menu bar. Then select "Create iPod/iPhone Version" or "Create iPad/Apple TV Version" depending on what you are syncing too. If these options are greyed out, it means it is not necessary to do this as those devices already can support the file as is. iTunes will then convert, and presto, you have a copy which will go onto your device!

  • Video podcasts won't transfer to iPod - it's not a format issue

I've been watching the video podcast "Wallstrip" www.wallstrip.com on my iPod. Just the other day I noticed a problem with my iPod software (v 1.2.1) and performed a restore. THAT problem was fixed (clicking play all in a list such as genre just scrolled songs but didn't play them) but now there's a NEW problem: The Wallstrip video podcast, which USED to transfer and play just fine, is now identified by iTunes as one that won't play because it's not the right format. Clearly there's a problem with the iPod. I've looked at forums and I am aware that one can manually convert it to "movies" but that's clearly not the problem. If it worked yesterday and doesn't today something's screwy. Ditto for the "Planet TV" podcast. Anyone know what to do?

i have the same problem. several of my video podcasts have stopped transferring with the same format error which i know is incorrect.

  • Video podcasts no longer play on iPod Touch

I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch.  I have never had a problem playing anything on it.  Now when I try to sync podcasts like Terra, Photoshop User or DTown - I get a message saying iTunes can't sync them to the iPod because they can't be played on it.  Since when?  This touch has always been able to play these.  I can still show Ted Talks and MSNBC as well as various movies.

  • IWeb video Podcast won't play music on PC and crash iTunes.

I used iMovie to make a picture slideshow and added a mp3 file I got from a CD I own. I shared the slideshow to iWeb as a podcast with iLife06 and it built a page for it on my .Mac account web page. I published it and it went to the server flawlessly. I subscribed to the podcast on my Mac computer and it came into my playlist and played great. The problem came when I went to the website on my IBM PC. I at one time used it to hold the music for my iPod. I subscribed to the podcast, downloaded the slideshow to iTunes, and when I tried to play it on the PC I got a weird noise that would not stop. I had to control Alt Del to get it to stop. I am running the latest version of iTunes on both computers.

ensure that you are navigating to the video
correctly. The correct path to a video podcast on a
    5th gen ipod is /videos/video podcasts/*insert
podcast here*. I assume that you are attempting to
    access the podcasts via /music/podcasts/*insert
podcast here*. If you are accessing the podcasts
through the music menu, the podcast will show up, but
only the audio will play. If you access it through
the video menu, both the audio and the video should
    work.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER MY IPOD SONGS TO MY ITUNES??

My computer was cleaned out by a computer dr because of a caught virus. All my programs including itunes were erased so i had to redownload itunes. Now all the songs from my original itunes are still on my ipod but not in my new itunes.
My new itunes only has a few of my previous purchases(not even all of them)and my new purchases.
When i plug in my ipod i get a pop up to either erase my ipod and transfer my itunes into the ipod, but all my songs are on my ipod.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER MY IPOD SONGS TO MY ITUNES??
ps.when i plug my ipod into my computer it does not show up as plugged into itunes and the ipod then freezes with the DO NOT DISCONNECT and i am forced to let the battery die bc this is the only way for it to turn off.
ps again. i received a new ipod nano a few days ago and will be using that instead of my 5th generation one, but the 5th gen. one still holds all my songs!!HELP PLEASE!!i know my problem is big

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Extras notes --- iPod works fine in iTunes, but doesn't show up in Windows

    Hi all!
    Gotta wierd situation.
My iPod works fine in iTunes.
I have had 'Enable for Disk Use' enabled for a long time. However, my iPod doesn't show up under My Computer on WinXP.
I'd like to add some new Notes and remove some old ones, but you have to do that thru Windows, not thru iTunes.
Any ideas how to fix this problem?

    hi marky!
i noticed one thing. the iPod is formated as FAT32, but i have my HD in NTFS. could this be related?
no, that one's normal. we need to leave her as FAT32. see:
iPod no longer plays music after formatting or partitioning the hard disk
hmmmmm. it's like the "enable disk use" setting is just refusing to stick for you.
but maybe we've got a window of oppportunity while it's doing that initial sync. the rules seem to be different for you then.
maybe try switching enable disk use off. then eject her, and plug her back in again (while you've got itunes already running).
the second she shows up in the itunes sourcelist, try diving into the preferences tab, and re-enabling disk use.
(i checked, and it's possible for me to do this with attractive beast ... hoping here that doing the "enable disk use" under these circumstances might get it to stick for you.)

Why are listened to podcasts no longer deletable in the lastest version of iTunes?

  • Video Podcasts No Longer Work on my 2nd (3rd?) Gen. iPod Touch!

Okay, I'm not really sure if I actually have a 2nd or 3rd generation iPod touch.  It's a 8 GB, and I bought it in November of 2009 or so.  I'm guessing it's a 2nd generation since it stopped updating after iOS 4.2.1.  Now with that out of the way, onto the real question....
There was a new iTunes version a few days ago, so I went ahead and updated that.  Ever since, I have had difficulties with any new VIDEO podcasts that I download.  I cannot sync them onto my iPod at all.  Audio podcasts work just fine, but video podcasts do not.  I have literally tried everything - restoring my iPod, deleting and re-downloading the podcasts, and even re-installed iTunes completely.  I figure that it might have something to do with the file type of the videos, but I would've gotten an error message if that had been the case.  I am extremely puzzled.  Please advise.

    No one?

  • Why will video podcasts no longer sync to my ipod?

I used to be able to watch video podcasts on my iPod nano (5th generation).  Then, one day it stopped syncing them to the iPod.  I think an error message came up saying that my iPod didn't support the videos anymore (something about HD).  I assumed that the video podcast had switched to a higher definition podcast, but the video quality appears to be the same when I play them on my computer.  What's more confusing is that when I check which podcasts are being synced, the video podcasts still say they are being added to the device, but they never show up.  Furthermore, I try draging the file manually to the iPod, but nothing happens (not even an error message saying I can't copy that file to the device).

I think so.  I'm pretty sure I've updated 2 versions of iTunes since it stopped working.  I don't remember if one of those updates was right when it stopped working or not.

  • Clicking links in video podcasts no longer works

Until recently I have been able to click links in video podcasts and they opened the link in my default browser, Safari, 3.x. Starting about 2 - 4 days ago this same mouse action would only start and stop the podcast.

The videos play in iTunes without trouble... Shouldn't that indicate that they should play on the iPod?

  • Old and new video podcasts no longer sync and play

Since updating Itunes and software on my Ipod classic, the ipod no longer plays video podcasts. I know there was a problem with newer podcasts in HD and so on, but even the old format doesn't play.
    can anyone help?

In your subject heading you say the Podcasts do not sync. Are you saying they don't play +because they have not synced?+
If so, when you plug your iPod into your computer, check the settings on the Podcasts pane/tab. Are they still set the way you want them? Software upgrades have been know to cause these settings to be changed.

  • Video Podcast no longer plays audio

Within the last week, (Possibly the last update), I can no longer get audio to work on Video Podcasts.  No audio in iTunes or on iPhone for Video Podcasts.  However, Audio Podcasts play just fine and no other issues with Movies, etc.

  • Podcasts No Longer Sync to iPod

    Greetings!
I've several video podcasts I'm subscribed to that no longer sync to the iPod no matter what I do. It seems to have started at the last OS update, but I'm not sure. I can drag and drop the things onto the iPod in iTunes and the sync settings are to sync the latest 5 of all podcasts, but they still won't go to the iPod.
    Anyone else run into this?

Sorry, I have no answer for you either as I am just experiencing this myself. I've been having major issues with my (6 month old, btw) iPod lately and wonder if it's time to restore?
I keep having to reset it and every time I try to start it back up, it crashes. I'm guessing a restore will help this but was also wondering if it will help the podcast issue too?

  • Video podcasts won't play, cause ipod to freeze

    Hi there,
My 5.5g ipod won't play video podcasts. I've downloaded several different ones, made sure the "TV Out" is turned off, and played with several other settings, all to no avail. When I open one from the video>video podcasts menu, the screen goes black, sometimes it says "Loading" with the little "play" arrow in the top left corner, and that's all I get. It freezes, and I have to reset.
I've also tried restoring the ipod to factory conditions, which didn't work. The podcasts play in iTunes, so that's not the problem.
    This thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8969818&#8969818
also seems to describe my problem, but I can't find a solution there.
Anybody have any ideas for how to fix this? Thanks!

It's up to the producers of the podcast whether they make their video podcasts iPod compatible or not. It's certainly not a requirement for an iTunes Podcast feed which is, perhaps, unfortunate. You could try sending the producer feedback but even if they take any notice it won't affect podcasts you've already downloaded. The *Make iPod compatible version* rarely works (somthing to do with whether audio & video are separate or multiplexed to start with). I suggest you download SUPER which is capable of converting almost anything to an iPod version. You have to navigate through a bunch of links before you get to the actual download, but it is there - just ignore the links to other commercial software on the way, SUPER is free.
    tt2
PS. On my current setup SUPER generates the odd error message while running but still produces a working output file...
