Video podcasts vs. Audio

I've noticed that when a video podcast finishes, I'm dumped to the podcast listing that I played it from.
When an audio podcast finishes, I'm dumped to the top menu.
Why?

Ipod video classic 5th gen won't play video/podcasts or audio only a black screen with the play symbol and volume/progress bar. games work fine! any ideas?

    Here's some more info.
I tried installing the latest iTunes to my housemate's PC, logging into iTMS with my account, authorizing his machine to play my content, restoring my iPod to the factory settings, downloading the videos and copying them to my iPod.
It worked fine, and I can play my videos.
I have done the exact SAME thing on my own home PC twice, after completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Software Updater. But I still can't get any videos downloaded on my home PC to play on my iPods.
    Any thoughts?

  • Video Podcasts - just audio no video

I subscribe to a couple video Podcasts, but don't view them often. But one popped up that looked interesting so I tried and only got the audio. The video window did not open.
I checked an older video that came with a purchased album and again, the sound played but the video did not open.
No Video just Audio. Any thoughts?
    I'm running iTunes 10.6.1
    Lion 10.7.3
PowerBook 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

PS - I should mention that both the podcast and the music video played in the distant past, but I can't remember when I last tried to view them. Could be several versions of iTunes ago, certainly not since upgrading to Lion.

  • Video Podcasts Playing Audio Only

I'm trying to play some video Podcast's that I DL'd from Itunes, I made sure they were Ipod Compatible and not Apple TV, they show up under Podcasts but play audio only. This is a Brand New 30gb 5.5g

You say you get the audio only. What do you see when you play the podcast: Does it look like when a song is playing from your music library? If so, you may just be accessing the Podcast from the wrong menu. Make sure you go through the Videos menu.

  • Convert video podcast to audio podcast

    Hello!
My ipod can't show videos. There's a weekly discussion on a video podcast, that I would like to listen to on my ipod (without image because there is no visual action...). Is there possibility to extract just the sound and produce a "new" podcast out of this?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, this is really weird but sometimes the option is there and sometimes it's not.
Here's proof - look between "Reset Plays" and "Consolidate Files":
So the real question is how to get that to show, and I can't say for sure how I did it. The trick seems to be related to whether the episode is selected or not before you right-click on it, but that's not entirely it. I think what I did was click on an audio file, then right-click on the video file while the audio file was still highlighted.
It may be easier to just open the video in Quicktime Player, and use that to export the AAC audio.

  • Convert video podcast to audio podcasts?

    Hi,
Is it possible, within iTunes, to extract the audio from movies, video podcasts, and iTunes U videos? I know that I can export them into Quicktime and do it there, but it's time consuming. The reason I ask is that I download the files to my iPod, and I only need the audio. (I'm resubmitting this question because I received no response the first time.) Thanks.

  • Video podcasts - no audio only playback

    Hi,
I have the original iPhone and am a very active podcast user. Several of the podcasts I frequent are video format and it appears with the new 2.0 firmware the ability for audio only playback of video podcasts has been lost. It used to be that if you accessed a video podcast in iPod mode from More/Podcasts they would playback audio only. This was tremendously helpful as I often want to check email, surf Safari etc while listening to these podcasts. Now they will only playback in Video mode so if you navigate out of iPod mode to any other apps the podcast turns off. This was also helpful for saving battery life when walking around or unable to view the video.
Is everyone else using 2.0 firmware experiencing this? Does this sound like bug or lost feature?
Apple please fix/re-enable what was a great feature!
    I appreciate hearing from others.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It seems to be doing the same on mine. I also used this feature and loved it. What's worse is that you can't turn off the screen with the sleep button, as that turns off the podcast playback too. So it seems you must be playing the video in order to hear it (wasting battery if your phone is in your pocket).
I can only guess they removed it as people got confused over why their video podcast was playing back in audio only. Make it an option that we can choose at least, rather than reduce the functionality this way.
PS. While I'm complaining, why is there still no "Shuffle by Album" option...

  • Converting video podcasts into audio podcasts?

I have an iPod Nano, so I obviously can't watch video podcasts on it. But that's fine with me because most all of my video podcasts are of stand up comedy. Is there anyway that I can just take the audio track off of a video podcast and save it as audio to put onto my Nano so that I can listen to the stand up comedy?
Thanks for your time if you're answering me.

Open the file in QuickTime and select Export from the File menu. In the dialog box that opens, select Sound to AIFF from the drop-down menu next to Export (near the bottom of the box). Add the exported file to iTunes and either leave it in AIFF format or use the Advanced menu (Convert Selection to _) to convert the file to MP3 or AAC. If you convert it, you can delete the original AIFF file afterwards.
You should be able to put the file on your iPod like you would any other music file even if you leave it in AIFF format.

  • Video podcasts in iPhone 4 / iOS 4

I download lots of podcasts, audio and video, and I have them all put in an intelligent playlist named “new episodes” which I synchronise with my iPhone. This way I could listen to all new podcasts from different sources in a row, without having to keep fiddling with the device to move from one list to another.
Up to now this worked perfectly. I keep the iPod app in the background, which was possible even before iOS 4, and listen to the wit and wisdom of the world. That meant I listened to video podcasts as audio only, of course, but that was ok, because most were talk shows anyway; I could perfectly follow without having to watch.
The iPhone 4 or the iOS 4 broke this system. Now my podcasts playlist just skips video podcasts and automatically goes to the next audio podcast. There is no way you could get the **** thing to play that video podcast except by going to the iPod app and manually selecting it from the list.
I don’t know if this is a bug or a new “feature”, but it is annoying. I hope it is a bug, I find that easier to accept than the idea that Apple just decided you shouldn’t listen to video podcasts they way you want to listen them.
Has anybody had or noticed this problem?

I have certainly noticed this problem, I'm finding it with Purchased Music Videos. Some of my music videos will play but it seems that some won't. They all seem to play fine if I select them manually from the videos list but if they are in a playlist or just general shuffle they'll never be played.
Moreover, if I put one of these videos in a playlist with one normal song (or working video) and then select the video to play by tapping it, it gets skipped and the song will play and Next and Previous will not select that video.
However, I figured a small workaround for now. If I make a playlist of only the videos that have this problem, they'll all play fine and I can press next and previous to go between them.
So far the only common feature for me is that these were purchased after 3th of March, all videos loaded before then work fine. The date of the first video that exhibits this is 9th May.

  • Video Podcast no longer plays audio

Within the last week, (Possibly the last update), I can no longer get audio to work on Video Podcasts.  No audio in iTunes or on iPhone for Video Podcasts.  However, Audio Podcasts play just fine and no other issues with Movies, etc.

  • Is there any way to keep streaming the audio portion of a video podcast when I leave the Podcast app?

If I leave the Podcast app while playing an audio podcast, I can still hear the audio. However, if I leave a video podcast to do something else like answer emails, the audio portion doesn't keep playing. This means that if I have a video podcast going, I can't do anything else with my iPad while it's playing. I multitask all the time while playing my podcasts and then come back to the video if it sounds like there is something interesting to see. This one glitch unfortunately makes the Podcast app unusable for me. I'll keep using the Downcast app for a while longer because of this but if Apple fixes this problem, I'll be back since the rest of the app looks great.

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • Video podcasts play as audio only.

Since the release of Podcasts, I have been using it to watch my regular assortment of video podcasts. On at least two occassions (so far) the app has decided to play only the audio from the podcast using the audio interface and ignore the video. Switching podcasts does not help. To top it off, even in audio mode, the audio controls do not seem to function properly. The only fix I have found is to exit back to the Home screen, terminate the background Podcasts process and relaunch.
If I look at the information for the podcast episodes they are properly identified as video podcasts and play properly once the app is relaunched.

    You're welcome!

  • Is there anyway to seperate audio podcasts from video podcasts?

is there any way to view a listing on video podcasts tthen a listing of audio podcasts in itunes?

Does anyone know of a solution ?
The only solution to remove this data from your phone is to go nuclear: Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes, followed by syncing your content back to your phone. ALL data on your phone will be erased, including these "phantom" email addresses. There is no other way to remove this data from your phone.

  • Has anyone downloaded any video podcast to iphone and get only the audio?

    Hey,
I downloaded few video podcasts. I had turned on Music Video, Podcast and Video syncs. But I see only the first frame of the video podcast and I can only hear the audio... no video... Has anyone faced the same problem and has anyone been able to solve this?

This works the same way on the video iPod; a video podcast will show up both under 'Podcasts' and under 'Video'. If you play it under Podcasts, you only get the audio; if you play it under Video you see the video. Music videos work the same way.
Presumably this is useful if you just want to listen to the audio track of a video podcast and want to avoid the battery hit of displaying video you're not going to be watching. Frankly, though, it's confusing. Particularly on the iPhone, it'd be better to have a show video/don't show video option that you can select while the track is playing.

  • Audio off Sync with Video Podcast....

Somehow I always have trouble downloading Video Podcast. I Usually find myself having to download each episode 3 or times because iTunes hardly gets it done the first time, and when It's done successfully, the audio is off sync with the Video. I have the latest version of iTunes
    Custom   Windows XP

I've seen that problem in several threads, both here and in the Mountain Lion forum. I tried to replicate the problem but was unable to do so... so it's not a problem effecting all Macs. Try posting here - in the Mountain Lion forum - and see what you get as a search. There's one specific "More Like This" to the right on this thread but there doesn't seem to have been a solution posted.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
