Video preview box not working

The video preview box is blank and does not work with downloaded videos.  Tried deleting com.apple.iMovie8.plist and running disk Utility to repair disk permissions, but did not work.
Thanks for any suggested fixes.

richardj15,
Try restarting your Mac and seeing if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't work, go to the menu bar and choose Apple > Software Update... . There may be an important iMovie update you've missed.
Hope this helps,
O.C.

  • Video preview/playback not working

I am a new premier elements 8 user.
I've captured some video from my camera using a firewire connection.
When I try to play back the video, I get a frozen image in the preview.  Every once in a while I might get a different image, but it's mostly frozen.
I've updated quicktime to the latest.  I've updated my nvidia drivers to the latest.  I've run windows update.  Premier elements has been updated.  Everything (that I can tell) is up to date.
My PC is running Windows 7 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, AMD Athlon II X4 630.
The video file noted above can be played back in windows media player, windows movie maker, cyberlink power director (free version, came with the new PC), all without issues.
In fact, any video I try to load (all captured using a slightly older PC, using Pinnacle) has the same problem, so I'm thinking it's not related to one codec or the other, because it seems different types of capture encoding show the same problem when played back.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling the GPU usage setting under preferences; no diff.
I've tried contacting Adobe support, read through several KB articles, I'm running out of patience.
    Any ideas?

My audio drivers have been updated.
I've tried capturing using all 4 dv project presets.  When I select DV PAL Std 48khz (which is not the default nor is it the type of camera I have since I live in the US), I get an error message stating something about a potental quality issue because the method doesnt match the source, however after capturing via that method, the video plays back.
g-spot states that I have the proper codecs.  The video clips I was capturing previously show that I have the proper codecs installed and play without issue (including the audio) in g-spot.  When I capture using the NTSC project settings, the video codec in use shows as codec "dvsd" and name "DVC/DV/Video" and format NTSC.  The audio codec is "PCM Audio".  If I capture using the PAL project settings, the video codec does not change however the format still shows NTSC.
I've noticed that when I capture using the NTSC method, I have an error message at the bottom of the premeir elements screen.  There's a little red X and next to it reads "Display performance will be poort due to incorrectly oeprating graphics card or driver!".  Note that I previously updated the drivers for the nvidia chipset on my system, I've run an HP diagnostic for the video chipset which passes with no trouble reports, and multiple video codecs/containers play back without issue using windows media player, quicktime, pinnacle studio, and windows movie maker.
So... I'm still having the same problem.  When I set up a project using the proper method and the proper formats, the captured video does not play back in premier elements 8.
At this point I have two problems....
    1) I cannot view captured video, or any other video, unless there's a hack in place by capturing via the PAL project pre-settings; using premier elements on my pc.
    2) Why does this workflow and asset work in 3 other editors on my system, and why does the asset play back in at least 3 other viewers on my system, but with premeir elements I cannot simply preview captured video?
Any help or additional guidance is appreciated.  I feel like I'm spending way to much time trying to get a simple process to work properly.
    Heres the dxdiag info...

  • Video preview/importing not working

I recently opened my Premiere Elements 10 program and tried to edit some footage, when I found that the preview window on my workspace was a solid white image when trying to play video however the audio linked to the same file was working perfectly. When trying to open a previous project it says "This file is not supported, or you do not have the required codec". I'm unable to view or preview any footage at all. I have tried with various types of files, .mp4, .mov etc but nothing is working as of yet.
    Thank you for your help.

    Ben_Smith
That may very well be your problem, that is, Premiere Elements 10 with the latest NVIDIA GTX 560 driver version installed?
You may want to explore rolling back the driver.
There is an epidemic specific to Premiere Elements 10 users with NVIDIA video cards. Please check out the following thread which I created to try to keep track of the happenings.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5836037#5836037
Please let us know if any of that applies to your situation.
    More later.
    Thanks.

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

  • My previews are not working when I make adjustments

My previews are not working when I make adjustments?
I am wondering why this may be?
I just bought the program like 1 week ago too :-(
    Any ideas?

What kind of adjustments are you making? Where are you looking for the previews? If you're using select list of filters or color adjustments, have you enabled 'Preview' in the dialog box?

  • My Video chat is not working with messages.

When someone tries to send me an invite for a video chat the green light shows up but I do not receive and invitation window to accept it.
I am using an aim account on messages and my server settings are api.oscar.aol.com, port 443, and use SSL is checked.
In connection doctor is says my router type is port restricted and that "This computer's network setup includes one or more devices that are not fully compatible with audio and video chatting. I am not sure if this is the reason my video chat is not working.
If anyone can help me please let me know.

    Hi,
Most routers can be accessed via  Web Browser.
The IP shown in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP tab in the "Router IP" box is generally the one to use.
You also tend to need a User ID and Password.
Apple Base Stations are different in that they have an App in the Utilities folder that accesses the set up screens.
Your router can have different methods of opening the ports.
    Port Forwarding
This tends to be the oldest of the methods.
Essentially you point a port to an IP (computer) to allow it.
A collection of ports may need to be entered one by one.
Once set up, only that computer can use those ports.
    Port Triggering
This cuts down the number of ports set to be Open as it involves "listening" ports that then open further ports
iChat/Messages needs some ports to be open all the time and you set these a bit like Port Forwarding but with listing the IP to send the data to.
The A/V side can have a listening port (port 5678 for the Visible part of the Invite)
The advantage is that multiple computers can use the same ports.
    DMZ (Demilitarised Zone)
This is an ON or Off setting (Enable/Disable)
It opens all the port (65535 of them) to one IP (i.e only one computer can use this.)
It is sort of like Port Forwarding Extreme
    UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play)
A setting that allows the App to tell the router which ports to open.
This means the router can carry on doing DHCP and multiple computer can use the ports involved.
Where these setting are varies at least as much as there are manufacturers.
This is  Linksys Port Forwarding (the arrows above the pic show the Others  (it does not show DMZ)

  • Satellite 1800-100: video-out does not work

    He,
I just installed windows XP on my old Satellite 1800-100, but now my video-out does not work anymore. So I just downloaded the latest driver, but there's no way I can get it installed. According to Windows the new driver isn't newer, so it won't let me update it. And when i try to unistall the display driver, I have to reboot before it takes effect, and wile rebooting it automaticly installs the standard driver again.
    Can anybody help me?
    Greets,
    Daan

    Hi
Do you mean TV- out port or monitor port? As far as I know this unit is preinstalled with WXP Home and all drivers can be also used for WXP Pro.
Did you preinstall your own OS (non recovery image)?

  • 2nd video card does not work

I have a spare Mac Pro here so I decided to remove the video card and put it in the one I'm using. Both machines were purchased in '09 and use the same video card (ATI Radeon HD 2600). The two monitors I have hooked into the original video card work fine but the monitors I hooked into the newly placed video card are not working. Under the About This Mac specs >> PCI cards it shows up and says driver is installed. Is there anything special you need to do to get a second video card to work?
    Thanks.

I tried the SMC reset. I removed the card and reseated it. I'm seating it in slot 2 because that's the only other one that is x16. The other slots 3-4 are x4. Still nothing is showing up. When I go to System Preferences >> Displays >> Detect Dispalys nothing happens. The two displays plugged into the original video card work fine but the newly installed on does not show up. Here is what the Mac Info is detecting. Maybe this makes sense to someone. Not sure what MSI is referring to and the second video card is reading as "display" instead of "ATI Radeon HD 2600". Link speed on the second card is half that of the original.

    Hello.
I have been using Final Cut Pro 4 for a while and it worked fine before. But recently, any function of Video Filter does not work. I apply them to the clip, but the image does not show any changes on Canvas.
    Is the software's problem?
    Thanks in advance.

For a reason unknown to me, FCP's preference files (there's 3 of them) will sometimes become corrupted and need to be trashed. Usually the symptoms are things just not working as they did earlier, or weird issues like the 3 Way Color Corrector looks different than before ... stuff like that.
FCP Rescue is a freeware app (yes, you'll need to download it) that will create a backup set of preferences, thereby retaining all of your settings. Then when (not IF, but when) FCP's preferences become corrupted, you can run FCP Rescue to replace the bad set with a fresh new set.
Otherwise you can delete the files yourself (make sure FCP isn't open at the time) and the next time you launch FCP, it will revert back to the factory settings.

  • Captivate 4 AS2 Text Entry Box not working with Flash Player 11

I am having issues with text entry boxes not working at all in flash 11. I am using Captivate 4 and exporting an AS2 swf. When you get to the slide you can type but you cannot see anything nor does the button or keystroke to move on. Also there is no cursor. Any ideas?

You said it is not working with Flash 11, so does that mean you tested with previous version and that worked?
While publishing choose Flash player as 9 and publish that, verify if that plays in a compatible web browser.
AS 2 is a legacy scripting, it has been said not too be supported with even Flash Player 10 --
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS2LCR/Flash_10.0/help.html?content=Part2_AS2_LangRef_1.html
I believe if you switch back to version 9 while publish your project, it should work.
    Thanks,

  • DVI video out suddenly not working.

That's basically it. I have a 23-inch Cinema HD Display at home and at the the office. Suddenly the video out is not working with either of them. The displays control panel lists the external display, so the system is detecting the connected display.
There is nothing wrong with the displays. I connected an old PowerBook and they light up fine. With my MBP, the power light lights, but nothing is displayed on the Screen.

there's a somewhat similar thread "external monitor stopped working" with no answers
my 17" Studio display works as 2nd mon on other computers
my dvi out does work with a vga monitor and adapter, of course :))
i'm using the dvi to adc adapter -- could this be involved somehow?
my laptop display goes blue when i plug in the external monitor as it should, but the 2nd monitor never wakes up, turns on, etc.

  • My video recording sounds not working but other sounds are working fine, I've tried clearing the little mic thing near my earphone hole and had no success can someone please help me out?

    hhi guys
my video recording sounds not working at all but it's working for other things such as music. I've tried to clear my sound thing near the earphone hole but had no success can someone please help me out?

Had an Iphone 4 for about 3 months now. This happened to the first one I had and they ended up having to replace it at the apple store just a couple weeks ago 6/2. It happened again last night to my new one. This time i was able to correct it by going to itunes, backing up the phone to icloud, and then restoring the software. Mine did not work with voice memo, but did work with headphones plugged in, and would also work on speaker. I could hear callers but they couldn't hear me. I had purchased a new case (lifeproof case at $79.99) because it comes with plugs that cover the headphone jack, and the charging port, and is also waterproof. I heard that the root cause is due to lint, dirt, etc getting inside the headphone jack. Well, must be something else. It's a 10 days old phone, and has been in this overpriced case the whole time, and I have not used the headphones. I hope this doesn't keep happening.
