Video preview skipping/freezing after a few seconds

Hi All,
I am a new user of Premiere Pro and am having an anoying issue with video stuttering/skipping in the preview windows when editing.
I am trying to edit GoPro footage shot from a Hero 3 Black in 1080p 60fps. The video preview is at 1/2 res and it will play smoothly for about 3 seconds, then start skipping. If I pause the preview for a few seconds and restart, it catches up and plays smooth for 3 more seconds or so, then skips again.
I have tried to convert the raw gopro footage to a premier preset (MPEG-2) using brosoft video converter and have the same problem.
I thought it may be due to hardware limitations with my older PC, but I have upgraded the slowest parts of the system with no luck (the rest of the PC is running like lightening now though).
Here is the current setup:
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
CPU - AMD Phenom X4 9750 - 2.4Ghz Quad core - 64bit - specs: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20X4%209750%20-%20HD9750XAJ4BGH%20(HD9750XAGH BOX).html
Ram - 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz
Motherboard - ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2N68-VM (AM2) (sata II, not sata III compatable)
Graphics - 1535MB GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
HDs -
New 256GB Samsung MZ-7PD256 840 Pro Series Solid State Drive (SATA) - System drive
932GB Western Digital WDC WD10EADS-00M2B0 ATA Device (SATA) - Video storage
1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0 ATA Device (SATA) - General storage
Is there anything else I should be trying here or is this just a limitation of HD video??? Surely I should be able to preview what I am trying to edit without pausing the footage every 3 seconds? =(.

I have a few other things running at the same time, but I disable network, Antivirus, Media Server apps etc etc (anything thats hungry).
When play skipps I see RAM at about 50-60% useage, CPU below 50 % on all 4 cores. I have notised that the HDD spikes up to 100% at times but then drops off. I have tried running everything off my SSD and seems to make no difference.
When I render a clip, it play perfectly....so seems to just be the preview of the GoPro clips thats causing issues. I will have a play with converting the footage to something smaller/lower quallity, but that defeats the purpose of shooting HD footage.
Another thing I have been notising is that the rendered final clip is rather blury/has some issues with fast moving footage. Any ideas?

  • My video previews turns black after a few seconds

I have Skype version 7.4. and use it to Skype with my sister. When I first start the video conversation, my image appears in the little box. Within a few seconds, the image disappears and I have a black/blank box. I am using a Logitech camera that's only a few weeks old. Why does my image disappear and how do I permanently fix this problem?

  • Video chat breaks down after a few seconds

    Hi. I need help.
iChat video chat breaks down after a few seconds. Audio is ok if I begin with it, but doesn't work after a failed video chat. The message that pops up afterwards tells me (in Swedish) that "No data was received during the last 10 seconds. Info about audio channel: local machine uses [IP]:16402 and expects remote machine to send to 83.xxx.xxx.xx:43787." Repeats the same for video channel. What am I to do with the network settings to make this work. I have now realized that this is not a software problem (since upgrading to 10.6/iChat 5.0 didn't solve anything) so it must be the router or my new Time Capsule's settings. But where do I start?
    Thank you in advance,
    Rikard

Hi and thanks for your help,
I have now had a chance to try the chat again, works fine at first but after say 3-5 minutes the connection breaks in the same fashion as before, unfortunately.
One thing I noticed when flicking on Back to my Mac (just to try it for fun in Snow Leopard - it's never worked for me!) it first turned green, after which it said the familiar: that my router must be capable of UPnP or NAT-PNP. Funny, that was what I thought I had... Could this be connected to the iChat problem do you think?
About the NAT tab: it is really gone when Bridge mode is on, but it reappears when I change from Bridge mode, and when I did it really was on (by default?). I turned it off and changed back to Bridge mode. I have switched off ping as you said. No port scan or DOS/SPI switch anywhere.
I found a iChatConnectionError Log in my Library folder, here it is. Can you read anything from it? Sorry if I quote too much of it.
Thank you ever so much for your help and patience!!!
    Cheers,
    Rikard

  • Why is my Garageband freezing after a few seconds of recording after recent iTunes and other updates?

I use garagband regulalry for voice recording. It now freezes after a few seconds(if that) of recording. I use an Audio Technica usb mic with no problems. I remember this happening with GB afer another OS upgrade in the past.. Is there a problem or should I be looking for something on my setup? I run 14gb of ram, have a timemachine connected and use an apogee duet.

No problem ; if you look at the question you posted initially - your forst post-, it is signed with a profile signature as the last line:
    MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
and that made us think, that you still are using Mac OS Leopard, where the user library in your Home Folder is visible and easily accessible.
You can change  your profile from the "your Stuff" drop-down menu in the upper right corner of this webpage:

  • HT1923 preview song stops after a few seconds

the preview song stops after a few seconds, any ideas on how to correct?

Perhaps try resetting your iTunes Store Cache.
Go "Edit > Preferences". In the Advanced tab, click the "Reset cache" button shown in the following screenshot:
    ... and then click OK.
Restart your iTunes, and head back to the Store. Are you getting full previews now?
(Doesn't work for everyone, but does no harm to check.)

  • My screen freezes after a few seconds on my iphone 5c and the display fades slightly so you can see faint lines in the background. I'm not sure whether this is easily fixable or a major problem. Have reset the device, but this has worked. Any ideas?

To make sure that this is not software related, set it up as new device, explained in this article:

  • A1211 - MBP freezes after a few seconds with Airport WIFI enabled

My MBP freezes after a few seconds [requires a hard reboot] when I enable my Airport card. I have tried three airport cards with the same results. Any ideas?
    Occurs with 10.6.8 and 10.7.5.
    Works fine with WIFI dongle.

  • Video freezes after a few seconds

This is actually a continuation of a post I made almost a year and a half ago, trying to get video chat going so my mom can visit with her grandkids. The thread has been archived, so I can't post there but in case it helps here's the address:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1658017&tstart=0
We are both running Tiger 10.4.11 and iChat AV 3.1.9 (v446), although she's on a 1.25 GHz G4 with 1.5 GB of RAM, and I'm on a 1.8 GHz iMac G5 with 1 GB of RAM. We both have the exact same videocamera, Canon Elura 70, attached via Firewire. Both computers recognize the cameras fine, no problems there.
Anyway, my sister and I have tried 1,000 different things but nothing works. I can always see her but not hear her, and the connection is dropped after a few seconds, saying there's insufficient bandwidth to maintain the conference. She can't see me at all, but she can hear me. The chat usually ends with error -20 and sometimes -22. For instance, here's the log from our try today:
*2010-01-29 11:49:30 -0600: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds.*
*Audio channel info: local machine using 10.0.1.3:16386, expecting remote machine to send to 97.83.147.78:56754*
*Video channel info: local machine using 10.0.1.3:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 97.83.147.78:56752*

The thing is, we can video conference successfully (video and audio) with each other from separate rooms if we're both at her house, as well as from separate rooms when we're both at mine. However, when we're each at our own home, it won't work. She's got a download speed of 8.5, and mine is 8.3. Her upload speed is 1.01 and mine is 1.74.
I am connected through a router - SMC Barricade (SMC7004VBR), and a WebStar modem. We've both taken the tape out of our camera, set our bandwidth limit in iChat to none. System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming is at 1.5Mbps. I've learned how to access my router settings but I don't see a DoS or SPI setting. It shows firewall features are disabled.
We've also tried to connect with Skype instead, and I was able to see my sister without it freezing. But she couldn't see me, so it still didn't fully work.
I'm totally at a loss. Any ideas?
Edit: Forgot to say her modem is an Ambit U10C018.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed response. I'm actually feeling a little bit of hope that we might get this figured out eventually!
    iChat 3.x at both ends.
Can Login and show Buddy Lists
    Can Send Visible Invites.
Can Start Video Chat but something says the Bandwidth is then not good enough.
    Error Message.
All true, except she has never been able to see me unless we're both in the same my house.
The Intranet /LAN setting in Tiger for iChat 3 also returns Odd figures to
iChat so we have long said set it to 1.5Mbps which your last post says it is.
I take it you must have restarted iChat f not the Mac(s) since you changed
this setting ? (Just covering all bases)
    Right.
Have you changed the range the SMC uses to miss the range the modem is using ?
The only change I've made to anything recently is in iChat prefs: Under Accounts - Server settings, I changed the top port to 443 because regular iChat kept disconnecting at odd times and I read somewhere that it might help. But we had this AV problem long before that, and after.
I see the SMC cannot Forward enough ports for iChat but Can do UPnP
    (Universal Plug and Play)
Is it set to do UPnP ?
I don't see anything that says UPnP. It says:
    GATEWAY
    IP Address: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server: Enabled
    Firewall: Disabled
On the Port Forward site there are two WebSTARs listed under
    Scientic Atlanta
DO you have either of these ?
    No, it is a DPC2100.
I could also do with seeing an old log of an Error 20 log.
They are stored in You Home Folder/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors
Can you post the bits down and only down to the line that starts "Binary Images for iChat"
Pasted at bottom of this post.
Can you tell me if there is a Wifi and Ethernet connection to the Router ? (at > the same time )
My husband's PC is connected to the router via Ethernet. The only other things connected to it are the modem and my Airport Express so I can get online with my Macs. (I used to have the iMac connected by Ethernet before I realized I had an Airport card. Duh.)
Thanks so much for your patience and help!

  • VTY shell freezes after a few seconds?

    Hi,
I'm experiencing an odd issue; I don't start the X server at boot however, after a few seconds the VTY will just freeze totally?
The system hasn't hung as I can still access over the network via SSH, and the X server when started (via SSH) works fine.
Basically after a few seconds there is no keyboard input, though at first it does work. So after logging into user account I can use it properly before it will just freeze and I will forced to login through the network using SSH.
Last night after a kernel update it seems the issue got remedied but after a reboot seems to have come back.
Kernel version is: 3.17.3-1 64 bit
The actual system is a Zotac D2550 ATOM mini-itx board
keyboard is standard USB PC keyboard
On boot there was a kernel message about something needing to be run with update, but it went too fast for me to catch and couldn't find it in my logs again. I wonder if that's the issue?
Could anyone suggest something I could try in order to be able to debug this? I can provide more information if needed, though at present I'm not sure what. I also attempted to search for the issue but most results came back with kernel freeze which isn't what I'm experiencing as it seems to be either related to usb devices or the VTY shell specifically.
    Thanks.
    [EDIT]
Actually I have just tested and keyboard is not functioning even when running the X server - though it does function at first like stated above.
Quick extra edit, did some more digging:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=185273
    seems related.
GPU is Nvidia! forgot to mention that; lspci mentions it as GT610 - currently using "nvidia" package perhaps I should be using one of the other ones?

The shell is Bash, however I am not sure if it's the shell or VTY directly?? Basically it seems that the input doesn't work any more after a few seconds.... perhaps something to do with USB layer in kernel?
Shell otherwise from SSH is fine (Bash again). Also cursor is flashing but just no input after a while.
    Unfortunately I don't see anything
    Output of dmesg just shows:

    Nothing related in journalctl.

  • IChat video freezes after a few seconds of "chatting"

I am able to start a video discussion using iChat with someone on AOL, but the video image freezes after about 10 to 15 seconds. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? Is this a common problem?

Ok If they have the AOL package it includes the AIM IM application.
    1) it has to be activated for use and it sounds like you are pats this.
    2) depending how old the package is will determine which AIM application it is based on.
Most likely it is AIM 5.9 if it is a bit older.
IF it is it should have several things done.
    a) the IM part of AOL needs to be allowed as an Exception in the XP Firewall See here and allow for the AOL package if required)
    b) The most likely. It will need to have the Video Quality reduced.
In AIM 5.9 the outgoing Video appears as a tab behind the incoming one.
This tab should be brought to the front.
Next to the Video now should be a small icon.
Click on it and a slider should appear.
Slide the slider to the left to reduce the quality.
This will in fact allow their processor to produce more frames per sec and the pic should not freeze.
    c) they should look at message 570 and see if this applies to them

  • Why do iTunes Store preview samples quit after a few seconds?

When I click on the preview for songs in iTunes now, the song quits after only a few seconds. This problem started just today. I have restarted the computer and have reinstalled iTunes.

    1. Use these DNS: Google and Verizon DNS
    Primary DNS = 8.8.8.8 Secondary DNS = 4.2.2.1
    2. Then apply these instructions:
    Windows XP
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open field type cmd and click OK.
In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return(Enter) on the keyboard.
You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7
On the Start menu, point to All Programs > Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator from the shortcut menu. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return(Enter) on the keyboard.
You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
Your problem should be 100% solved

I tried to reboot...I just bought a new MacBook Pro with the built in camera.
I tried a IChat, IMovie and Skype...they all turn on the video camera and then after a second or two, camera freezes and then drops from sight.
I am brand new to MAC...HELP PLEASE!!!

  • My multiclip preview pane hangs after a few seconds

    Uh oh.
This is my first time editing a multiclip with 6 HD streams, and playback hangs after just a few seconds.  If i pause and give it a moment to catch up, it will play for a few seconds more.
On the RT button on the Timeline, I have selected: Safe RT, play base layer only (doesn't seem to matter) Video Quality Poor (Dynamic isn't any better), Frame Rate Quarter, and of course Multiclip playback is checked.
I'm working with ingested AVCHD footage in ProRes LT.  I already shut down, waited a minute, and restarted the machine, no other programs running besides browser and mail.
I'm wondering if there are any other adjustments I can make so that I can see the multiclip view to do live switching thru this footage.
I'm working with an eSata external drive with an eSata card in the expansion slot.  It's the fastest drive I've got.
Thanks for any suggestions (besides buying the Thunderbolt drive) I'd be grateful!

It is highly unlikely your disk system can handle playing back 6 steams of ProResLT.
A serious multi drive RAID run through esata should handle this. A single drive will probably choke.
First set your RT playback to Dynamic - not safe.
Beyond that there are at least three ways to deal with this ...
    1. Use ProRes Proxy (or DV) in an offline-online process.
    2. Figure out if you REALLY need all six angles. Choose which 4 to use for the main cut (or three if that's all your drive can handle), then output that sequence as a new file using "current settings, self contained". Bring that new file in and make a second multiclip adding in the other two (or three) streams.
    3. Acquire a RAID that can push out 400-500 MB/s.

    Hi Alex,
Try disconnecting everything from the Mac including power supply, give it a few seconds, while waiting unplug keyboard and plug into different USB PORT, now re-connect power supply and turn on machine... see if you can get your Mac to boot up properly... here's a link explaining the procedure: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733

  • Flash Player freezes after a few seconds of playing

Adobe Flash Player freezes after playing for a few seconds.
It does this in both Mozilla Firefox and in Google Chrome.
It does this regardless of how much of the file has been buffered
(it's not just pausing and waiting for buffer)
I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed.
I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox installed.
I have the latest version of Google Chrome installed.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player.
    I've tried disabling hardware accelleration.
I've tried increasing the buffer size.
I've tried setting the buffer to 0
I've tried clearing the appdata cache

    fourstrings411,
Could you give our 11.4 beta release a try to see if that resolves the playback problem?  If it does not, please see this FAQ for other possible solutions.  In particular, look towards the bottom for instructions on rolling back versions or disabling protected mode.
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
    Thanks,
    Chris
