Video problems with 5th Gen iPod

I've got a bit of a problem here. I've got a 60 gb 5th gen, and I've had no problems, thus far. I've got it loaded with tv shows, movies, music, podcasts, etc, and they have always worked fine. However, within the last few days, suddenly my video folders are empty. My movies and everything are still shown to be on the iPod under iTunes, but when disconnected from the computer and browsed, all the Video folders are shown as empty.
Has anyone experienced similar? Is there a way to fix this without losing all of those converted video files? Seven seasons of Star Trek Voyager took me like two weeks to convert!
PC   Windows XP Pro

Same thing with me, i cleared my iPod and they went back on. But now it will only play my video podcasts. If it is any other type of movie file it will go to a black screen for about 10 sec then go back to the previous menu.

  • Strange problem with 5th Gen iPod

I have one of the late 2006 5th Gen iPods which I got for Christmas, it originally had a defect with it's dock connector port and data transfer didn't work, I had to get it replaced. Now this one seems to be having loads of problems like just freezing while playing songs and skipping. But the reason I'm typing this message is becuase now after charging my iPod using an adaptor, I go onto iTunes on windows XP, then when I plug it in, It doesn't appear anywhere, says no power remains and then switches off and doesn't turn on no matter what I try, reset, center button, play.... I'm starting to think that iPods are very poorly built pieces of electronics sold at a very high price. Someone please correct me.
Edit: when I plugged it in, it didn't do anything at first, just normal screen showing full battery. Then I plugged it out and back in and then I got the no power warning.

No they are not. All of mine have worked fine and so have all the Windows users I know. Is that enough correction?
As far as your problem with the iPod, let it run down for at least 24 hours before proceeding.
    Before starting, read this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
Even if no new drivers are available for your computer, delete and reload your USB driver.
Next charge your iPod (use the wall charger) for at least 30 minutes then connect it to your computer. Use a rear port on your computer and disconnect all other USB devices except for your keyboard and mouse.
Now reformat your iPod (FAT32, don't use a quick format) and then Restore it in iTunes.
I am assuming your are using iTunes 7.1.1.5 and Quicktime 7.1.6

  • IHome weirdness with 5th gen iPod

I have both a 4th gen iPod and a 5th gen iPod and I find that my iHome that works beautifully with the 4th gen iPod works very strangely with the 5th gen... and it's not because I don't have the foot replacements for the inserts. I find that there is a noticably longer delay in waking up the 5th gen iPod from sleep than the 4th gen and I believe that the internal clock uses through the dock connector by the iHome doesn't take this into account. As a result, I often wake up to the internal beeper even though I have the iPod connected. Further, I find that the playlist that I go to sleep with is not the playlist that is used when the alarm goes off... it seems the iPod starts playing my entire song library. I don't know what the problem is... but I suspect that it's more the iPod difference than a problem with the iHome (particularly since it works so well with my 4th gen).
    Anybody have any ideas?

Yes and no... the iHome worked fine with my 4th gen iPod in that whatever playlist I had paused when I went to sleep would play when I woke up. For some reason, my 5G will just start playing the complete song library when I wake up. My point is, some iPods work, and some don't (the recent models having a problem).

  • Finding exact point in a podcast harder with 5th gen iPod?

    hi,
I just upgraded from a 4th gen iPod Touch to a 5th gen iPod Touch. On the 4th gen I was able to move through a song and pick a specific time such as 20 minutes out of a 60 minute podcast. Is it now harder with the 5th gen to get choose an exact place in a podcast/song?
    thanks,
    Michael

My research reaveals that the auth chip for TV out may be the reason there is no compatibility. Check out the website below.
    http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/17/itunes-rentals-on-5g-ipod-nope/
Why are previous generation iPods incompatible with iTunes Rentals? Pure speculation leads me to believe that the whole authentication-chip for TV-out "update" to the Classic is at the root of the incompatibility.

  • Transfering Music/Photos/Videos from A 5th gen Ipod....

Well I have my old 5th gen 30 gig ipod that was last used on a pc with Vista but that pc is nolonger working so i went and got a laptop with Vista I tried the old method i used to transfer from the ipod to the computer but it's not working the way it did before...
Now I want to load the Libray from the 30 gig ipod to the itunes libray on the laptop so i can then load it to my new 80gig ipod how can i do it with out losing my stuff on the 30gig?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Keith's iPod Photo Reader Mac only
If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • 7.1 won't copy video to my 5th gen iPod

I clicked on the "Yes" button to allow iTunes to update itself to version 7.1. My next sync it gives me a new error message I've never seen.
"Some of the songs and videos in your iTunes Library, including xxx, were not copied to the iPod (my iPod) because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Then it gives me a list of 13 files including 7 videos that played just fine before installing 7.1, and every episode of "The Show with Ze Frank" since the 7.1 upgrade. Last time I checked I still had a 5th generation iPod, and other videos play just fine.
I repaired 7.1 and got the same message. I could work around it but I hate to lose 7 videos. Maybe when 7.1.1 comes out it will start working again?
    Has anybody else seen this?
    Thanks!

I've seen it with the update because it won't copy purchased content without you re-authorizing your machine. I just posted a question on this actually.
    Try going to:
    Store > Authorize Computer
Log in with your apple store id and password and it should sync up the content.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 5 won't work with 5th gen ipod charger

I have an iphone 5 and my original charger that came with the phone is broken beyond repair, so I've borrowed a iPod 5th gen charger off a friend to use but my iPhone doesn't recognise it at all, why won't it work with my phone?

Because the charger or the phone or the cable is not working correctly.

  • I need some help on transferring videos to my 5th-gen. iPod

My "Tetris" game will not dowload to my iPod. There are also several South Park and Jackas episodes, and music videos that I purchased from the iTunes store that will not sync to my fifth generation iPod with video. How can I get these videos and game to download, and why aren't they? One of the common error messages that comes up is:
iTunes could not sync [file] to [my] iPod because the file is corrupt and could not be read.
Reposting the files on my account did not work, at least for the game. Please help me. My problem is not an issue of authorization, due to separate accounts. Please shed some light on my problem, and thanks.

Firmware is basically the internal OS (operating system) software in which your iPod runs on.
A "Firmware update" can be found in iTunes (if you aren't updated to the latest version of internal software for your iPod), which updates your iPod's OS (operating system).
New firmware update versions usually do not make a noticable change on your iPod, unless the last firmware update contained a bug, where is slowed your iPod down, for example, and the new firmware is tweaked from the last version, and doesn't slow down your iPod anymore.
Also, iTunes and your computer will call a firmware update/software the "firmware files", because a computer will read what an update contains, by how its files are... just another bit of info.
    I hope that explains it.

  • Multiple problems with 5th generation iPod

I am sure there is not likely to be a solution, ans my only option would be to pay for reapir (or, given the cost of that, wait till the iPod touch has a 60+ Gb model and buy that), but I thought I'd ask anyway.
I have tried a total reset, via iTunes
    1) Games sync, but don't play - there is a message that there is an unknown error. It suggests re-installing, which does not work. When I first bought them, most played, Zuma, Pac-man and vortex, but i-quiz never worked. Now, none of them do.
    2) The playpause button cannot be used to turn off if in the middle of a playlist or album, or if I have tried to start a game. If I finish the album, it will usually work. This is a relatively new problem.
    3) The batteries are almost dead, 2-3 hours at most

% battery on an iPod is not accurate. Fluctuation you see are normal. The test is how long can you play a video after charging for at least six hours. 4-6 hours for a used iPod seems to be the norm.

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!

  • Problem with 3rd Gen Ipod Nano being recognized by Itunes

I have a third generation Ipod Nano that was only used once. It takes a full charge and appears to be working fine. Problem is when I plug it into a computer it is not recognized by Itunes. The computer recognizes it but not Itunes. I have tried it on several computers and same situation. I have tried other Ipods and they are recognized by Itunes. I have reset it and reloaded Itunes with no change. Any suggestions?

If none of the solutions found in the PDF user manual and from DIY websites like iFixit and YouTube's How To tutorials work then it's time to take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or an AASP.

No, that would be Nano only, I'm almost positive.

  • All Kinds of Problems with 5th Gen 60GB

Okay so my problems started out by the ipod freezing after playing a few songs. It would show the screen for the next song but then never start playing and it would stay that way until the battery died. I couldn't reset it or turn it off or anything during that time. Then after the battery died and I recharged it, it would start up fine but then freeze again after maybe 10 songs. After a few cycles of doing this I charged it again and then all of my songs were gone from the ipod, and I plugged it into my computer and Windows and iTunes would not recognize it.

I also have this problem, I have had my ipod for just over 1 year (12 days out of warrenty). I have never had any problems, until I updated to itunes7 and the newest ipod software 1.2?? Ever since my ipod will start up for about 30 seconds then freezes, if its playing a song, the screen will freeze then it will let the song finnish then stop. I have reset it, and restored it, deleted the updates in itunes, used different usb cables and ports, etc and the thing just keeps on freezing really unimpressed as it was fine before updating.
