Video projector (Toshiba TDP MT500)- no signal

Hello-
I have a problem with my external display (it's a toshiba MT500 video projector). It works fine with my iBook G4, using a DVI-VGA adapter, so I assumed it would be the same with my new MacBook, but alas no...
I called Toshiba, who were incredibly rude and patronising, and basically told me that they can afford not to care about the Mac users among their customers, as they are such a minority (which, by the way, makes no economic sense, as they also have a much higher buying power, proportionally, but nevermind...), and that there had to be a problem with my laptop.
The thing is, there is nothing wrong with it! it recognises the projector just fine, and does everything it should do. I tried it with my brand new iMac and it's exactly the same. I have tried every possible combination of turning on and off the MacBook and the projector, selecting all the different input on the projector, but nothing worked, the projected image remains blue, with no signal.
Please help!
PS: I connected it with a mini DVI-VGA adaptor, which I bought at my local Mac centre.

Thanks for the tip, but I've tried that too (every possible combination) and it just doesn't work I don't have the iBook anymore, but it was basically plug and play, no settings needed.
I've also tried the adapter to plug in my MacBook into an external monitor (on a PC at work), and it worked perfectly fine straight away, so there can't be anything wrong with it...
Any other idea?
I'd be really grateful!

  • No signal via DVI to VGA adapter on my video projector Sharp PGM 15X

    Hi there!
I have a big problem with my video projector. It´s connected via mini DVI to VGA adapter to
the projector. The problem is, Mac OSX decect the projector but there is no picture.
To resize the solution on both, or one of them doesn´t help.
When I use my Bootcamp and reboot with Windows XP there is a picture on the video projector.
    I cant believe this.
What should I do to fix this problem?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?

  • Splitting Mini VGA signal between monitor and video projector??

    Hello there,
I'm trying to develop an inexpensive tech setup for a classroom/lecture environment involving a mac mini. However, since the mini has only 1 DVI/VGA port, I am wondering how possible it is to split the VGA output and send it to both a VGA monitor (so the teacher can see what they're doing) and a video projector (so the students can see it) simultaneously.
In other words, the same screen content is sent to both display sources.
Can anyone recommend a reliable solution? I've researched 3rd-party VGA splitters to some extent, but am looking for some actual 'on the ground' experience doing this successfully.
    Many thanks,
    Richard

Thank you for your suggestion. I will look in to this.
I should haven mentioned that the video projector is ceiling-mounted at the back of the room while the Mini and monitor are positioned at the front of the classroom, so I am also concerned about lengthy cable-runs.
    Thanks

  • Problem connecting MacBook to a Sharp video projector

One of the great things I like about Macs is the easy way they (usually) connect to a video projector. Unlike a lot of my friends who run PCs with Windows I never had any problems whatsoever connecting my MacBook to a projector at the university and start my presentations.
    Until today that is.
I tried to connect my MacBook with Apple's mini-DVI to VGA adapter to a Sharp ("Notevision") video projector and although the MacBook had the projector (even with its correct name "PG-M20X" and available resolution settings) listed under "Displays" immediately, I couldn't get the projector to show any more than "no signal" whatever input source I chose...
What did I do wrong? Or is it the projector that is somehow "incompatible"?! Please help!

Maybe this could help as well:
After we tried several things with the MacBook (reboot, "detect displays" etc.), we successfully connected a Powerbook (15", FireWire 800, late 2003) to the projector, using Apple's DVI-VGA Adapter.
So that did work out fine, but the MacBook didn't work on the projector. The cable that came with the projector was a VGA--DVI-A cable: there were only a few pins on the DVI-end of it going into the DVI-Connector on the projector. Could it have something to do with that? But why didn't the Powerbook have any problems connecting to the projector then?

  • Problems connecting my  MacBook Pro to a video projector

I have a MacBook Pro. I have used it many times to connect to a video projector and give presentations in my classroom. Lately, it is hit or miss concerning whether the laptop will give a signal to the computer. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have followed the instructions in the MacBook guide.(Start with projector and laptop off, connect, turn on, etc. )
I am using the DVI to VGA adapter. I have also tried to use the function keys and manually tried to get it to detect displays. Can't think of what to do next. I gave up and hooked up a Windows computer and it worked.
Could it be the adapter? Does anyone have any ideas I can try? Thanks!

I have problems too with some projectors and the DVI--VGA adapter that came with my MBP. The projector is recognized by the computer, but does not show any signal.
With the help of Stéphane Madrau, who has written the excellent tool SwitchResX, I found out that the projector reports that it takes digital input when I connect the MacBook Pro, but analog when I connect it to my 12" PBG4. From the DDC information (collected with SwitchResX):
    MacBook Pro, DVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Digital
    PBG4, miniDVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Analog input with: 0.700V / 0.300V
    Separate Sync
    Composite Sync
Given that the VGA cable is analog only, I would think that the MBP tries (or rather, does) output digital signals only, which don't make it into the VGA cable. If I find a solution I will post it here.
The clue was that the computer did not report any vertical scan frequencies for the external display, while it did so for a projector that worked.

  • Mini-Div to Video projector

    Hello Guys,
I have a problem! I hope u can help me.
So I have a McBookPro middle 2008 (mini-div) output for video signals.
now i want to connect it to a video projector and don't know wich adapter to use (mini-div to hdmi, mini-div to div, mini-div to vga)
    (to share powerpoint files)
I hope u can help me
    thanks

    First, That's Mini-DVI (not DIV).
Second, you need a Mini-DVI-to-XXX adapter, where "XXX" is whatever input your projector requires. We can't tell you what that is, because we don't know what kind of projector you will be using.
If it just one projector that you need to use, look at the connectors or ask the owner.
If you will be traveling to a number of sites and using whatever projectors you happen to find there, you may need any or all of those adapters. Call ahead and ask what they have.

  • Trying to feed a video projector

I have a MacBookAir , Proc 1,7 Ghz Intel Core i5, Mac OSX (10.7.3). I bought a proper cabel to connect, through tunderbolt, my Mac to a video projector, using a VGA cable.
It worked perfectly the first time. I tried with a diferent Video Projector and it didn't catch MacBook signal. I returned to the first projector and it didn't work at all.
    What's happening?

    Dear SPForsythe,
believe it or not, if you turn MacBook Air off and if you turn it on the video projector recognizes the signal. I tried this with different video projectors.
Don't you know if there is a way of forcing the computer to "open" the way through the video projector as PCs do pressing F4?
    Thanks

  • Mini DVi to VGA :  impossible to display to a video projector

    hello !!!
I bought a MINI DVI to VGA adaptor and i as soon as i connect my videoprojector (Sanyo) to my Imac with the mini DVI-VGA adaptor, my Imac screen freezes and nothing appears on the video projector screen.
    What can I do ?
    Thanks

Not exactly, though you can reset the PMU of an iMac flat panel machine with a PowerPC G4 processor, reset the SMU of a G5 PowerPC-equipped platform, or reset the SMC of one driven by an intel processor.
Any corrupted settings stored which might affect your external video will be dealt with by those processes. Have you attached the adapter alone and seen this same outcome, or does it occur only when a VGA projector is attached to the adapter?

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.

you do not need nearly as many packages on hold. Haven't logged into my 32-bit arch install for a month now, but I've maintained a xorg 1.4 install with this line just fine:
    IgnorePkg = xf86-video-intel xf86-input-evdev xorg-server xorg-apps xorg-xkb-utils xorg-server-utils xorg-utils intel-dri synaptics libgl libdrm xorg-res-utils xf86driproto xf86-input-keyboard xkeyboard-config
That said, I expext to upgrade next time I use it (probably to play around with some fast boot). I would look into troubleshooting with the latest xorg and intel driver as it really should work, if I were you. I presume you have already tried starting x without a xorg.conf as a baseline test with those versions?

  • I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

    Hi Scott,
You should be able to. If the projector has a speaker with acceptable sound, that's one option, otherwise powered speakers or a surround system.
What connections does the projector have?
Exactly which MBP do you have?

  • HELP-What cords/connectors to connect iPod up to VIDEO PROJECTOR?

I need to show a film I'm making next week on their video projector. They said they can handle anything - on CD or iPod - as long as I supply the CONNECTOR and cable/s for doing so. Help! I have the cable that came with my PowerBook G4 for video stuff and a variety of other cables but I am really not clear on what precisely I should have or be ready to supply in the way of cables and connectors. Your advice VERY VERY much appreciated ASAP!

I've not yet been able to get an answer and likely won't - until the very last moment - from the committee I'm presenting to. There has to be a finite range of possiblities with this stuff, though. Firewire and or USB for example and getting from firewire or USB to a video or phono in, et al. Really, there has to be some limit on this such that I can bring a range of connectors in order to be prepared. After all, there definitely is a limit on the ways of getting OUT of an iPod. Perhaps someone else has some suggestions on common connection pathways for doing this?

  • 2 monitors+1 video projector: do i need 2 graphic cards?

I m about to buy a new graphic card for my G5: i d like to use 2 monitors (extended desk) + 1 video projector:
    - has anybody successfully done that with their PowerPC G5 and did it actually work?
    - do i really need 2 graphic cards?
Which card(s) should i get for ultimate result?
(AquaDB kindly sent me this list but i m clueless http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/4B4B7BA2-7ABB-47F1-87AC-B03D379 42BEE.html)
    Thank you for your experiences.

Most G5 cards will support 2 monitors on one card, depending on resolution of th Monitors, but it depends what connections the Monitors/Projectors have... running 2 Monitors plus a projector would require 2 Graphic cards.

If you can import DV from your Sony camcorder via Firewire, you Mac is recognizing your "camera/Firewire connection".
When the Sony is connected and turned on, if your Mac's Finder > Go > Utilities> System Profiler app will not show your Sony camera as a connected Firewire device, try the suggestions in What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device.

  • Apple TV to VGA input video projector-what do I need

    Please help.
My understanding is that the Apple TV has HDMI output.  I want to hook it up to a video projector that only has VGA in.  Someone told me that all I need is a simple inexpensive HDMI to VGA cable.  Then I read something that seems to comflict with this.
Please clarify.  Is the simple inexpensive cable all I need, or is there something else I need?
Thank you very much for your help.

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.
