Video recorded in landscape only plays in portrait mode on HD tv

I recently obtained iphone 5s. I've recorded several videos with the phone, in landscape mode. When I try to play the videos connected to my tv via HDMI A/V cable the videos will only play back in portrait mode (quality is distorted and horrible).
Same goes for the videos recorded in landscape mode on my old 4s (which prior to IOS 7 would play back in proper mode).
Phone is not locked in portrait mode.
Video will play on phone in landscape mode...just won't play in landscape on the TV.

I had the same exact problem. Some of my landscape videos would get squashed into a portrait size view on the TV.
What I did as a workaround was to hold the phone in portrait mode, play the landscape video, and if it didn't fill the screen correctly, I would swipe the video as if I was going to another video/photo, but without lifting my thumb/finger, swipe it back so that it returns to the original position.
What happens is that the video on the TV screen should resize into a smaller landscape image (with the circle play button in the middle of the image). Then usually when I hit the play button again, it will play properly in landscape mode and, more or less, fill the screen properly.
I find it odd that so few others have faced this issue.

Movie attachments only play in portrait mode?

When I play an M4V movie from iTunes or even clicking on a M4V link in a URL, my iPhone will automatically default to landscape mode and play the movie. If I rotate the phone, it will switch to portrait mode.
When someone sends me an M4V as an email attachment, it will only play in portrait mode.
Is this a bug or are email attachments treated differently than other movies?

Did you check System Preferences > Displays (with the external display attached and mirroring off, look at the preference pane _on the external display_.

Emailed Video from 3GS only playing in portrait

I have been taking video in landscape mode on 3GS and then emailing video. The attached video only plays in portrait even though I filmed in landscape. How do I fix this?

Seeing the same problem here as well. Will shoot video in landscape (camera shutter button on the right in landscape view); and then either watching the video on the iPhone or after sending off the video, it plays in portrait and NOT landscape.
This is annoying when trying to watch a landscape video taken on the 3GS. If you turn the phone 90º to view it as you shot it, the video rotates on the iPhone. Turn it back to portrait, then it goes to landscape. Try to quickly compensate by rotating the iPhone now that it's in the view you want it, and it rotates to portrait again.
VERY annoying. Landscape videos can be watchable in "Edit" view (sometimes), but it just doesn't seem to be working right.

You need to do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, Appendix B.
Restart phone
Reset phone
Restore in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure in the phone that needs evaluation by Apple.

Will MBP 17 play in portrait mode on my ext monitor?

Hi All,
Am wondering if my MacBookPro 17" (about 2 yrs old) will "play" in portrait mode on my ext monitor? Is it built in, or do I have to DL a utility, or what? I am a writer and it wld be nice to see a wholel page at a time, vs. wide, wide, wide.

My music videos now only play in verticle mode not landscape since ios7

I have an iphone 5 and since I downloaded ios7 I now can't watch any of my downloaded music videos in landscape mode. If I turn it then I get the album list of my entire Itunes library when in landscape. Any ideas?

N8 HDMI only works in portrait mode, gets disconne...

Hi. Like the title states, my Nokia N8 HDMI works as expected in portrait mode but when I turn the phone sideways (like when I want to play Angry Birds) it immediately gets disconnected. Even the small "HDMI" logo in the top right corner disappears.
I initially thought it was because the connector was loose so I tried holding it firmly while turning the phone. Same results. Then I tried detach/reattach the cable in landscape mode - no response from the phone at all.
If I switch back to portrait mode the HDMI connection consistently and automatically gets restored without having to detach/reattach the cable.
Is this just a simple setting I need to change in the phone system, or is it a hardware defect? Any help you guys can provide will be very appreciated.

I don't have HDMI cable for my N8 but judging from a bot of googling i did, the thing should work for landscape HDMI. You may have a software problem of an issue with the accelerometer. Are you having issues with any other landscape apps?
You may have to get the phone re-flashed at a nokia care point.

Itunes video goes green and only plays audio, any reason or help to explain or fix?

Well, First of all, some of my .PDF files started to disappear without any reason, a year or so ago, a couple of months ago the "message" started to come up everytime I tried to shut it down or re start it. Then, the YouTube videos went "green" on Internet Explorer, and then on Google Chrome too! A couple of weeks ago any video saved on my Laptop, started to go "black", the same pattern, only audio could be heard, no images. It took a little while, I mean, after turning on my Laptop, 30 minutes or 2 hours later, tops, the YT videos would turn green,after watching 2 to 6 six videos on YT. and black, on Windows Media, at the same time, whenever I tried to play any video.
Then I tried the link that I posted before. And my Laptop is getting slower after that, the display has "blinked", 1 or 2 times this past week. Internet Explorer "crashes", and I have to re-open my "session" to see my previous visited sites. I think this last part, is normal, since everytime IE fails and you have to "close the program", and then open it again, it doesn't scare me.
What does scare me is to have a virus, or mallware. I have an antivirus, McAfee Security Center. And, I don't know what else to say.
I use my laptop to record music, I have 2 programs for that, and 1 or 2 more that came with a guitar pedal and a keyboard, and I don't know if I should have just one, instead of 2 programs (DAWs) installed on my laptop, does that affect my Laptop?

HT201302 iPhone 4 Video Taken as Landscape, iPhoto imported as Portrait

Any idea why this happens ?
If I reveal the original in Finder using iPhoto, this shows me the MOV file and it's portrait in both Quick Look and Quicktime.
If I plugged my iPhone into a Windows 7 machine and navigated to the folder, it shows them as portrait but if I copy theIfm to the desktop, they play as landscape in both VLC and Windows Media Player.
I don't want to have to manually copy my videos off the iPhone using a Windows machine and then transfer them to the Mac.

Same here. I have tried deleting all photos from iphone 4 and syncing again, but that didn't work. I also tried deleting the ipod photo cache inside the Iphoto Library file in /user/photos on my mac and then deleting photos from my iphone 4 and syncing again. This did go through the optimizing photos for all the thousands I have but it still didn't fix it. I bet if you try dragging in a new video you'll see that this problem does not occur, at least that's what happened to me. I have tons of video like you with the white bar around them, but some new ones I just put in (not shot on the iphone btw) had the correct video icon in the thumbnail.
This leads me to believe that something messed up along the way somewhere but i don't know what. I am trying to rebuild all the thumbnails and all that (hit option + command and then click iphoto) but I doubt that will help. I'm also going to try restoring as well. Perhaps that will help if it's an iphone issue instead of an iTunes/iPhoto issue. Please let me know what else you find out.

I only get sound on my "video" why is it only playing sound?

What are you using as your player? Windows 8 and 8.1 are known to have Windows Media Player MPEG2 issues. Microsoft issue. In this regard, can you download and install the VLC player and get video as well as audio playback with it?

Since you present your issue as no video, it is important to assure that you video card/graphics card (in spite of its superior attributes) has a driver version that is up to date. So, please confirm that at the web site of the manufacturer of the card.
Your GoPro video was probably AVCHD or H.264.mp4 and apparently has undergone conversion since you refer to your present source media .mp4 and .avi as "originally" GoPro recording. Please download and install the free codec utility named GSpot to confirm the video properties, specifically Video Name, Codec, and Status as well as Audio Name and Status.

Please confirm if you have video in previewing the Timeline content before export.
You say that your MPEG export (Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG has no video. However, you say that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer. Please go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime and let me know if you find QuickTime presets in the Presets list.
Please review and consider the above and then we can decide what next.

Somehow music showed up in video area, viedo now only plays choppy audio

So I turned on my Ipod this morning, and noticed that when I accessed the Ipod Video section that the responsivness went way down.
It took about 10 seconds to get to the menu inside of Videos, then inside my movies, there are a whole bunch of songs that don't belong there. Furthermore, the movies also contain files that used to be in with TV Shows, and all my titles in TV Shows are now alphabetized, the season breakdown has disappeared.
When I click on a video, it takes a good 20 seconds to load, and then, only the audio plays, and not the video.
Seriously, this Ipod is not even 2 months old. It should not be doing this...
Any ideas?

I want to update this.
I got home tonight and plugged in my ipod to see what was happening in my itunes interface.
All files show up as music, even the video. Which is weird, because on my ipod iteself video shows up in the video directory, it is just mixed in with audio files.
If I play the video files, then the video screen in the browser will popup and play the video fine.
As far as I can tell, I cannot drag stuff from music into video, so I am totally lost.
Someone has probably experienced this before, so please, anybody, HELP.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.

Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.

Why is my full length video in after effects only playing normal speed for 20 seconds

Hi everyone,
As I am developing a video "cube" four videos to rotate slowly from left to right allowing each video to show. As I have been able to tackle why the videos were playing so slow I have set them to play at 100% which now gives me normal play or speed for each video. The downside is the videos times shrunk down to a mere 20 seconds (approx) in length of play for each four sides of the cube.
The cube has been set to turn for approx 5 minutes.
So my goal with your help if you can please help me with a solution.

H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
The Canon Technical Specification for the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS states video formats as:
MOV [H.264 + Linear PCM (stereo)]

So, it should work shouldn't it? Still, I'd like to hear from anyone with an iPad 1 and a Canon PowerShot camera to make sure that 720p will play back on the iPad 1 without any conversion being required!

OS: RHEL 6
DB: 11.2.0.3
App: 12.1.3
Upon testing it was noticed that Oracle Applications successfully prints output files if they are in landscape mode but no output is received at the printer if the output is of portrait type.
The request ids show status 'Completed Normal' in both the cases.
Also printing directly from linux results in successful prints for both landscape and portrait.
The same issue exists when defining type as '--PASTA Universal Printer Type' or 'HPLJ4'
Any idea what files or settings could be causing this behaviour?
