Video replay Issues CS6

Greetings all,
I am currently evaluating Premiere Pro CS6 and would love to go ahead and purchase.... here comes the but...
I am editting HD video 1920 x 1080p originally shot on a JVC GYHM750 so .MOV are beasties it creates. The video plays without any issues in a range of other PC based players
After starting PPCS6 and dropping a clip into a sequence (using the technique of dragging the clip onto the "new item" icon), the clip loads up with a solid yellow bar so I do not exptect problems. However, the video is hesitant (audio OK) and unusable. Eventually (after a few minutes) begins to behave and play normally. If I add other video to the timeline, the same problem occurs but eventually, the replay is smooth.
Adding transitions or effects (colour balance, etc) the yellow bar turns RED - even though the Mercury Playback Engine option is enabled....
I thought, maybe, the Firewire 800 was not quick enough but I do not think this is the issue since a) other players work without issue and b) Premiere Pro usually begins to work as it should after a time.
This is driving me nuts...
System is as follows
P6T motherboard with i7 and 24GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 580 adaptor
Imagery stored on external Firewire 800 G-Tech device (RAID 0)
Internal SATA 7200 drives used as scratch
Quicktime Pro installed
Matrox MX02LE Plus installed (with latest CS6 drivers)
Some insight would be gratefully received.
I had similar issues (though worse) with CS5.5 so I think it is a PC set up issue..

Hi Steve (OP).
This seems like an all-too-frequent experience when it comes to Quicktime (.mov) files, no matter how much advice about burst speed, access times and the rest of the hardware what-nots telling you your system just needs a "tweak" or something better.

You can see the hardware specs in that scenario; but it makes no difference what you have, as Premiere Pro is slugged by the Adobe QT 32bit server it employs to "support" QuickTime files.
Have a look at the Performance in your Windows Task Manager - CPU, Disk and Memory. This should let you see what is happening when you hit the play button - let it run for about 30 seconds and see the Task Manager information.
In CPU you will see the Adobe Q32bit server active. Also, see the Disk access times. I put in 4 X disks in RAID 0, with recorded disk access times of less than 5ms and average read times of almost 500MB/s and it still stuttered in QuickTime playback. My RAM and CPU where simply taking a stroll in the park - no effeort at all - but stutter it does with QuickTIme (ProRes in my case).

A: This is separate from the player hesitant issue you report - likely you have used an unaccelerated effect in the timeline - yes, it will turn the timeline bar red where the clip is with that particular effect. Check out the symbols to the right of the effect name in the Effects panel - just render that particular section and all should be okay.
In the Color Correction section for example: RGB Curves will drop on to the timeline and NOT turn the timeline red with Mercury Playback Engine enabled - RGB Curves is an "accelerated" effect. Some other effects in Color Correction WILL turn the clip timeline red because they are "unaccelerated" (designed to work with the Mercury Engine I guess).

How can I create a custom sized video in PP cs6? I have read references to the "desktop" setting but cannot find it. I am trying to find the right settings for a 1080 px x 486 px video (which I need to qualify for hi res on Vimeo). I need to output a 450 x 1000 px video for
my website. Ideally, I'd like the sequence settings as well as the output settings. I am using still shots- no actual video.

What are the exact properties of the still images, particularly the pixel dimensions and pixel aspect ratio (PAR).* The letterboxing (black bars top & bottom) is most likely a result of a mismatch in these settings. If this is the case, then the easiest fix is to make sure not only the dimensions but the PAR match.
Say for instance your source images are 1000x1000 with a PAR of 1.0 (square pixels) and your sequence is set also set to 1000x1000 but with the PAR set to D1/DV NTSC (0.9091), the result would be letterboxing as seen here:
*if you're not sure about the PAR of your source images, right click on one of them in the Project panel and select Properties.

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)

1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

I'm trying to load video file into CS6 I keep getting error message: 'Could not complete you request because the DynamicLink Media Server is not available.' No Idea what to do next. Help please.

I'm using CS6 Extended. My OS is "Windows 7 home premium.
Can no longer load video files into CS6 for edited I keep getting error message:
'Could not complete your request because the DynamicLink Media Server is not available.'
Don't know what this means. Until just now I was able to load videos without any problems. Now I'm getting this message. Any thoughts?

Did Apple fix the video quality issue in iMovie '09?

I am a casual video editor and iMovie 08 had the perfect user experience / functionality for what I want to do.
However, the known video quality issue (throwing away interlaced scan lines) made the result unacceptable since I archive our family video on DVDs. I have been forced to use iMovie HD for that reason. I have tried tricks such as converting the original DV files to AIF and deinterlace prior to import into iMovie08 but that did not seem to work either.
So does anyone know if Apple fixed the video quality issue in iMovie '09.
MESSAGE TO APPLE IF YOU ARE LISTENING:
Please fix the video quality in iMovie09 if not already. Yes, the quality is ok for YouTube or Internet video but for those of us who want simple editing to archive our family video we cannot accept poor video quality. Dropping an interlace field effectively halves the vertical resolution. Thank you.

Please explain this in more detail when you say Adaptive Deinterlacer. Are you talking about another program? If so, what program and what are the specific steps.
Also, sounds like you are recommending imovie09. By saying to do the above, are you saying imovie09 still causes you too loose significant quality like imovie08? Are you saying you can use imovie08 or imovie09 with these steps to get high quality video or just imovie09? I guess I just need more specifics on how you do what you are describing and how imovie09 fits into this versus imovie08. I joined this whole discussion trying to figure out if upgrading imovie09 made a difference regarding the whole quality issue. I know it has more features, but I am more concerned about he quality of the video right now. Thanks.

Video Pixelation Issue - New HP Pavilion 15-P008TX Notebook - Windows 8.1

Ahoy,
I've seen topics regarding this issue - i.e. first day running a new HP Pavilion 15-P008TX, using Windows 8.1...
However the video quality on videos being played from the DVD Drive, HDD, and streamed videos (e.g YouTube) are extremely low quality.
Unfortunately I can't screenshot the issue - the best way to describe it would be to say that the videos look like YouTube videos being viewed on 144p
DVDs, and even 1080p videos are low quality and pixelated...
So far I've tried the following to no avail:
- Uninstalling and Reinstalling intergrated video drivers (Intel HD 4400) and Nvidia 3D drivers (Geforce 830M)
- Switching scaled views in the display section
- Installing VLC (with the latest codecs) to test if it was a codec issue
- Running a windows update
- Changing Graphic settings that may intefere with issues in quality (both Intel HD settings app and Nvidia 3D settings)
Windows Apps and programs aren't affected, only video playback.
First day of using my new HP Notebook, and i'm hoping to resolve this issue promptly.

Video playback issues in Air for Android

Hello everybody
I am developing an advertisement application which plays multiple videos. I have faced a very strange problem: nor the simple Video nor the StageVideo are not visible when I run the app on target android device. I can hear the audio but the only way to get the video is to press back button and then get back to app but in this case the video goes over the UI. This happens only on a target device which is a chinese sibo android tablet. It has android 4.1 on board. I have seen a lot of people had the similar issues:

but the solution mentioned there - adding <containsVideo>true</containsVideo> to the manifest xml doesnt help
I am using adobe air 4.0 sdk and the air 4.0 runtime on the device. I have tried to change renderMode to CPU/Direct/Auto but it doesn change anything.
The other three android devices I have - toshiba thrive tablet(4.0.4)/ eken tablet(4.2.2)/ htc desire c(4.0.3) play all the video content without any problem.
Any advice will be highly appreciated,

Video Message Issue

Hello, guys! I have a bit of an issue with the new video message feature of Skype. That is, the option to send a video message is grayed out on every contact I have on Skype, but my friends can send me video messages and I can view them without any problems.
Skype version: 6.21.59.104 (searching for updates yields me that I have the latest version of Skype)
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (100% legal)
Camera: Turbo-X 1080P Full HD with built-in microphone (functions perfectly during video calls)
Internet Speed: Average of 100Mbps if I remember correctly. Fairly fast and functional 100% of the time (I don't know if it is relevant)
Note: I have no Facebook or Live contacts on my contact list. I do not log in as Invisible. Some of my friends do, but the option is grayed out for everyone, not just those that are Invisible. The only personal modification I have done for Skype is to block the advertisments by blocking access to apps.skype.com through my Control Panel.

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

Video playback issue in Presenter 9

I have Office 2013 and Presenter 9. Everything works as outlined in the various tutorials etc but there is no video when I run the presentation.
I get audio only.
Is it a video format issue? What is best?

Are you inserting the video through the Presenter Insert Video function or through the PPT Insert Media function?
Presenter will convert all supported video formats into FLV, except MP4, which it leaves as MP4. If you can have your video in either FLV or MP4 before inserting into Presenter, then it leaves Presenter's video conversion tool out of the list of possible problems, and you retain more control over video quality settings.

Since loading Firefox I can no longer access video replays on Windows Media Player. I get a message saying the material has downloaded but that it can't be played for reasons that are not correct

I have been playing the video replays from Lone Star Park for years with no problem. I loaded Mozilla Firefox and now I can no longer access the replays. I get a message that data downloaded,Windows Media Player opens,but when I try to download, I get a message saying the video cannot be played. This is very important and I am thinking of removing Mozilla!

I had the same problem and I found this answer to a similar question to ours, so I copied and pasted it for you
Reset the device by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds. After it resets the message will be gone and you can go to settings > icloud and put in your password.
That seems to be a bug with the password alert where it won't respond correctly sometimes.

Video Adapter Issues?

I just went through a download of recommended Lenovo updates and now have problems starting up the computer. I get consistent blue screen telling me that I may have memory or video adapter issues. Is this a video adapter or is there another cause? I wasn't getting this prior to the update at the end of July...

Two video cards issue

Any fix for the "Hardware cannot render at the requested size and depth" when having two video cards issue?

Now, the strange thing is: after a few initial issues one of the macs is doing fine. The second one, on the contrary, is a nightmare. Finalcut gives a green screen of death and hangs up suddenly while performing simple operations (like dropping a clip on the timeline).
I'm thinking of trying to replace the two video cards with an older single dual display card, and giving up the fancy lcd monitors (that i bought at vast cost), at least until apple issues an upgrade that adresses the two video card problem. <
If the machines are mechanically equal, it's obviously not the cards. Although you can only be absolutely certain if you swap the cards between machines and see if the green screen issue follows one or both cards.
However, that new LCD display and card combination doesn't have much time in the pipeline so there could be other issues and you're doing the beta testing for all of us. Blaming the reseller is pointless; no one can keep track of all of these issues. We only find out about them only because of reported failures.
You should research the "green screen" here on the forum. I do not recall if there are display or graphics cards issues associated with it. That seems unlikely. IIRC, it appears to be a QT issue.

OS X 10.8 video playback issues

since upgrading to OS X 10.8 I have several video playback issues.
I have a lot of videos ripped to my Drobo NAS, connected bij FW 800 to my MacMini (4 GB, 2009). Until recently, playback was smooth, either with VLC or DVD Player.
Since upgrading to OS X 10.8, DVD Player is not playing VIDEO_TS folders anymore, all I get is a chequered screen. This is also happening on my MacBookPro and my iMac i7, so this is not a specific hardware issue.
After upgrading to OS X 10.8.2, videos are playing back jerky and audio is out of sync in VLC and QuickTime.
Since I have 10,000+ videos in my library, this is absolutely unacceptable
I tried reinstalling OS 10.8, and trashing the prefs, but to no avail.
please help.

The heading says "import." But the actual technique to bring an audio file into a video project in PS CS6 is to use the "Add Audio" command accessed via the drop-down triangle in an Audio track. That opens the Add Audio Clips dialog box. But WAV is not a file type available to be added to an audio track. If you choose the Open menu command, you'll find that WAV files also are not available to be added via that route as well.
If you do as JJ Mack suggests and drag a WAV file to the document window, it will show up in the Layers panel and it will be added to the Timeline as if it were a video clip. And, even though WAV files are not supported, the audio will play. So, JJMack's method is a work-around for the failure of PS to support WAV files via the Add Audio technique.
