Video resolution for imac

What is the best visual settings for the 27"iMac?

I am a complete dummy, I set up my 60" tv to the mac and clicked the GATHER WINDOWS button which messed up my iMac's display settings. I unchecked it and everything went back to normal.
The iMac just looked ZOOMED in like when you press CONTROL + but would not zoom out, That is why I was completely lost.
Thank you for offering the help folks!

    What is a good video converter for iMac?  Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

    Rather than convert, you'd be better off capturing with a more current version of the program -- one that supports AVCHD video. Otherwise, you're in for a lot of headache. A converter isn't going to solve your problems.
    BTW, when you say Premiere 6, do you mean Premiere 6 -- which is over 10 years old? (There was no Premiere Elements 6.)
    Trust me on this: Capture with a Mac version of Premiere Elements 11 or 12 and your video will be perfectly compatible with any Mac program.

  • Here's a way to quickly compute - max h264 video resolution for iPod

    Here's a VB Script I wrote to quickly compute the maximum dimensions you can encode an h264 video in for playback on your iPod video. It works on the principal that iPods can handle a maximum of 230400 pixels, and also accounts for Videora's stipulation that width/height must be in multiples of 16. Very easy to use, you simply supply the original width and height of your source video, and it tells you what dimensions you should encode to in order to maximize resolution. This is mainly of use for those who wish to playback videos on a TV, as anything above 320x240 won't look any better on the iPod itself. Copy and past this into a text file with the extension ".vbs" and then double click it. Windows only, sorry Mac people.
    origx = InputBox("Original Width", "Original Width")
    origy = InputBox("Original Height", "Original Height")
    xequals = origx / origy
    newy = sqr((230000)/xequals)
    newx = newy * xequals
    newy = 16 * (round((newy/16), 0))
    newx = 16 * (round((newx/16), 0))
    msgbox ("Make your video: " & newx & " x " & newy & vbcrlf & vbcrlf & "Total pixels: " & (newy*newx))

    To do the same thing on a Mac, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript folder and paste in the following:
    display dialog "What is the original width?" buttons {"Cancel", "Enter"} default button "Enter" default answer ""
    set origx to text returned of the result as number
    display dialog "What is the original height?" buttons {"Cancel", "Enter"} default button "Enter" default answer ""
    set origy to text returned of the result as number
    set xequals to origx / origy
    set newy to (230000 / xequals) ^ 0.5
    set newx to newy * xequals
    set newy to 16 * (round (newy / 16))
    set newx to 16 * (round (newx / 16))
    display dialog ("Make your video: " & newx & " x " & newy & return & return & "Total pixels: " & (newy * newx))
    Press the Run button and enter the original size when prompted.

  • Missing video effects for iMac g5 w/ external iSight cam

    I have a G5 iMac with an external iSight camera and I'm wondering why I do not have the option for video effects while using photo booth and iChat. My wife's macbook does include video effects, so my first bet is that Apple decided not to give me the option with my OS upgrade. Anyone have a way to remedy this without spending over 2K again?

    DP, he has Photo Booth and Front Row, its the effects in iChat that he can't use, and I do think that's an intel function.

  • Best video resolution for new ipad (3)?

    If I want to put my own movies on the ipad (from dvds that I own, I have all the conversion tools I need), what is the recommended resolution?  The retina display is too good If I convert a movie to that resolution it would be 20G.  A 1920x1080 movie already takes up 7G, which is too much.
    I'm thinking that I probably cant even tell the difference between 1920x1080 and a lower resolution, like maybe 1440x900... the question is how low can I go and still have a film look really sharp with this new display?  I only have the 16G version so space is an issue.
    I think maybe an upper limit of 2G per movie is reasonable...?

    DVDs are SD, which is 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL.
    Converting to a higher resolution is pointless, it will just blob out the pixels.
    You may want to remove the anamorphic conversion (wide screen movies stretch the horizonal size by 1.4 or close to it).
    If you do this it will make sure that the iPad shows the video correctly.
    To do so would be 1024X480 for NTSC, or 1024 x 576 for PAL.
    The iPad will stretch it out to look full screen, and it will look sharper played out at the origonal reslution and resized on the fly, then it would doing an up-res in a domestic video converter.
    Out of interest, the final video size is more determined my the compression ratio / datarate then the pixel size.
    You could make a 4000x4000 pixel video in less the 1gb, just lower the compression; it would look rubbsih though.
    Go for about 1500 to 3000 mb/s for SD, and higher for HD content in MP4 or Quicktime H.264.
    I find most domestic or plain video converters do a bad conversion, and often tend to make files way to big for the quality of the source material. You can lower the data rate quite well in H.264 or MP4 without much noticable quality loss. Saving space for more videos in less space.

  • Video Resolution for the Ipad2

              When tyring to rencode your video for the ipad what is the best resolution to use? I used 720p and though it worked its cutting off the video slightly on the left & right side when i try to view the video full screen and the ipad is on its side. I want to use the highest resolution i can but i don't want to video cutting off any when its full screen. I don't know if it matters but i always turn the device on its side when watching video.

    1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
    from
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
    all pixels more then that will be removed before reaching the ipad screen

  • Making a video input for iMac

    Anyone tried to modify the iMac to add a Videoinput? I'm electroni engineer and after disasembly my ibook, i think with a little patiente and some knowladge we can make a Video input. Any help?

    Any idea on bandwidth considerations?
    Apple's firewire 800 .vs.an HDTV stream out of a component (Xbox 360)?
    My only thought (gut) would be the HD stream would saturate the firewire 800:?
    FireWire (IEEE 1394b) 800 800 Mbit/s
    Per : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabitpersecond
    55 Mbit/s — HDTV quality 1080p
    So at first blush I seem well under the threshold.
    BUT, a DVI conector specs blows this away:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi
    # Maximum clock frequency in single link mode: Capped at 165 MHz (3.7 Gbit/s)
    # Maximum clock frequency in dual link mode: Limited only by cable quality (more than 7.4 Gbit/s)
    So, my conclusion is DVI specs are not what I should look at but rather the average HDTV 1080p stream.
    Still, now all I need is a thirdparty vendor to create the box!

  • Best Video Drivers For iMac G5 PPC

    Ok now that the debacle caused by the ATI Drivers is over, Is there a recommended driver which provides the best results (ie. Fast, High Quality, Low Resourse) I seem to remember downloading one which enahnced Quartz (long time ago) I also recently came across drivers from ATI (Circa 2005) ATI Displays 4.5.7 and ATIccelerator II 1.0.6b which appeared to be improvements. Any suggestions?

    I do not have the iMac G5.
    My assumption is that your G5 has a hardware problem with video circuitry. I'd assume in safemode the software is doing the video rendering where as in a normal boot the hardware does the video rendering. In normal mode bad hardware means no workie.
    You did a clean install, I assume.  The software is good!  Your machine worked before with this software.  All points to a hardware problem.
    It is quit clever of Apple to get your machine working using safemode drivers.
    Software problems can be strange.  Never hurts to try, but the chances of success are infinitely near zero.

  • Camera resolution for NetStream. Please help.

    I'm developing a videochat app that should work on different network speeds. The idea was to switch to lower resolution if by some criteria delay becomes too noticable (say, delay is 2 seconds, or dropped videoMessage packet ratio is more than 20%). Or if on the other hand user has fast network connection then app should increase the resolution and thus providing better video image quality.
    The problem: I can  not find anyone done this before, thus I am comming to the conclusions that I'm doing something wrong here.
    Is it possible that RTMFP is lowering the video image quality automatically when ever it thinks that delay is too huge? If this is the case, than should I set the video resolution for camera to 1600x1200 and feed it to the netstream and allow NetStream to take care of everything else, or there is some other magic numbers for resolution that I should set?
    If this is not the case and RTMFP is not taking care of lowering/increasing video quality automatically then how can I measure the quality. I know there are NetStream.info and NetStream.liveDelay, nether of which for RTMFP connections provides valuable information to detect delay. For me liveDelay is going up to 20 and then fluctuacting there, but for info videoLossRate property is always zero, even if I set everything to max and lag is very noticable.
    So how is RTMFP intended to use?

    I agree.  In fact, make it your workflow when sending this type of file to an online vendor.  The importance of the 350ppi requirement is for any of your transparency or raster effects to match their RIP's output line screen.  It's becoming an industry wide mistake to refer to file resolution in terms of dpi.  Do yourself a favor and get familiarized with the terms dpi and ppi, what they really are and what importance they play in output.  The advantage to PDF is the fact that you can establish the output resolution, color settings, and font embedding that will trim the variables that could go wrong on the vendor's end.  Your job is to make sure you apply the correct resolution, color, and font settings in the original file and again when you generate the final PDF.  If you are unsure, find a local print provider that knows what they are doing and can teach you how to setup a file properly.  You may have to intern somewhere, take a good course somewhere, and/or buy a really good and accurate book on prepress file standards.  Try your local book store or library.  Use better keywords when searching on the web, take a look at some of adobe.com's resources ( i.e., A Designer's Guide to PDF or similar ).  Now, you will need to learn more about Illustrator Color Settings and the Raster Effects Resolution Settings.  These are two areas you should spend a little time getting to know how different settings will affect output. In the case of your business card, set the raster resolution to "High".  That will cover you on their 350ppi requirement.  Do not get discouraged by seeing their proof on screen.  It's just a preview.  Do not get too comfortable with what you see on your screen unless your entire workstation is calibrated and even then you have to be cautious.

I've trashed everything I could. what next ???
    My video files are massive, converting them to a different format doesn't reduce the size of them it just turns them into mp4 or apple pro res ect
    This iMac is for work only so there's no pictures, no music, no conacts, no messenger, no games, nonothing but videos!!

    Have a look at this: http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/

    You also may want to consider some kind of external storage just for your video projects.
